Pixel experience - Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite Questions & Answers

Any chance that s10 lite users can get a pixel experience rom? It's been a long time since this model has released and I get it that maybe its not that accessible because of its price but as compared to flagship s10 and s10 plus heck even s10e got a pixel experience port, now that s10 lite is cheaper and older, many people have it, believe me I've been snooping around the internet for some hope and I astonishingly found alot of people with this handset looking for roms other than lineage os preferably pixel experience.

What do I buy next? OP6 or P20 Pro

Hey guys, new to all this so go easy on me. Over the past few years I have become a bit of a tech fanatic. I like to get a phone, use for a few months then sell on while it retains value. I'm March I got the S9 Plus coming from a Note 8 and from that coming from an S8 Plus. I love Samsung through heaven and earth but have become slightly bored with their design and UI. I have been strongly considering the Huawei P20 Pro and the OnePlus 6. Can I have your thoughts please? I have read/watch so many reviews on the P20 Pro and it's seems amazing the lag is the main issue as I do now want it. I don't game, I use a phone for emails, text, whatsapp, web browsing, Twitter, Instagram etc. ?
Why not ask in those forums? This is the Galaxy S9+ forums.

Sorry its only because I have a S9+. I'm new to this go easy haha!
Since this is the S9+ forums.... Keep the S9+?

Agreed, definitely this over the OP6 or P20

If you are bored of s9 plus UI then undoubtedly you would definitely get bored of Huwawei's EMUI(yup, has bit of lags as well) and Note 9 UI will be the same as S9 plus(with slightly added refinement of samsung experience) . So as per your question and requirement, you are left with OP6. OxyGenOS is a well thought - out one with some nifty features. The OTAs bring bug sometimes but overall its a, fast fluid experience without bells and whistles.

Except coming from an S9 plus the OP6 is missing some key features.
Sd card slot.
Ip68 rating
Wireless charging
Stereo speakers (although there is a mod for this).
Sure the device is cheaper and some may not care about those features but once you have grown accustomed to them very difficult to give up!
For example, me i dont really care about the IP68 rating but will not purchase any device without the other 3 listed.

True. Had the OP asked for a comparison I could go on and on including your points. But it seems he is bored of Samsung UI, design and trying to choose in bet^n P20 Pro and OnePlus 6. Also based on his additional requirements, I can assure that he would get a pleasant experience with the OP6.

Why won't you just install another launcher on the S9+? That should give you plenty of options to configure how the phone looks. Not all will change of course, but how many time do you spend in the phone's menu's
I had the Mate 10 Pro and P20, had issues with screen dimming on both phones on most all apps, great phones aside from the screen dimming. The screen would dim a couple of seconds after launching any app.
This bothered me to the point of switching to the S9 Plus, if you want a phone that works like its supposed to the S9 is it. Nothing beats the Samsung screens and design. It just works...
I had Mate10 non pro (now stolen, it was a fine Phone, but cam was not naturally for people.).
After them, my old Oneplus 3 (happy with Miui ROM),
then a Xiaomi MiA1 (boring stock Android), then MiMix2s (really good phone, but missing Netflix HD. For me Netflix HD is Import cuz i have 1:10h Train every day).
Now i got the S9+, this is the best package and also the best compromisse!
I've been also a true Samsung user for a long time and getting kinda tired of limitless samsung features and services that prevent the phone from being super snappy and eat up batterytime. Flashed Resurrection Remix ROM on the G-965F and it gave a complete different feeling i.e. near and dear to my liking but still not found a cam mod that works in portrait mode. Rooting, flashing ROMs and the like don't come without sacrifices.:cyclops:
Owning both G-965F and G-9650 models for months now and Pixel 3 XL/OnePlus 6T are in my wish-bucket list.
I had the P20 Pro and sold it mostly because I could get the S9+ for 400$ new. It has its fair share of quirks....It is noticeable laggier than the S9+ and the camera was not great when just trying to point and shoot. You could take great photos with it, but you had to fiddle with it every time to get the shot right.
The battery life is absolutely phenomenal though. The battery could easily last me 2 days. Huawei also has the same problem as Samsung though, and it is a big one for me, updating in a timely fashion.
I am waiting for the Oneplus 6t and Pixel 3 XL and will most likely be switching to one of those and giving the S9+ to my son when I do.

Switching Galaxy S8 to Xiaomi Mi 8. Worth it?

Hi buddies!
My 3 last smartphones were Samsung ones (A5/2016, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8) and now I'm thinking of trying something different.
I have nothing to complain about my Galaxy S8, but let's say that I'm tired of it.
I use the smartphone mainly for for social media and taking pictures, so, the camera is the more important feature for me.
Thinking of a new smartphone, I have Xiaomi Mi 8 and OnePlus 6T in mind.
I had in my hands the Mi A1 and Mi A2, but never used one with MIUI.
How about the screen quality? Will I notice too much difference switching back from 1440p to 1080p?
Is Mi 8 camera better than Galaxy S8's?
What you guys have to say about this deal?
No, you won't notice the difference between 1440 and 1080. Screen is excellent but s8 screen is a little brighter. Nevertheless xiaomi developer team is really really slooooow don't expect to be up to date with Android releases. I mean I am running 8.1 on mi8 (flagship) while the S7 is already on Pie.

Most of Xiaomi users even don't know what is MIUI Beta/Weekly and the Global Stable ROM is very slow to update.
I had the S8 and made the change to Mi 8.
At first, running the Global stable rom, i was kinda let down. Hdr didn't work, camera was not good and headphone audio volume was low.
Then i installed the Global beta rom (based on pie). All the above problems were fixed, the camera if you want to install the bsg Gcam is Amazing. Stock is good too but Gcam is miles ahead. The norch support is improved, you can now get notifications on status bar.
The mi 8 is snappier ( touchwiz is laggy).Battery on this thing is really good (geting 7h SOT on miui). The Mi 8's screen is a downgrade but not as big as i first thought. I played many videos side by side and could notice "blacker" blacks on the S8.
My opinion is to go with mi 8 if you want to install a custom rom, to make it pixel-like or AOSP in general.
Imho even a Redmi note 6 pro would be a massive upgrade from any Samsung device.
Can't stand their roms and bloatware. Great hardware but awful software.

S7 has Pie only on custom Roms! Mostly on crappy AOSP Rom's where the battery life and camera quality is really bad.
Mi 8 and also Poco has Pie on official Beta from vendor. Even the S9 didn't have a official beta from Vendor with Pie (as far i know, but don't keep an eye on S9 dev).
Please keep the facts! Has nothing to do with glorifying someone.

No. You are confusing them. S7 has no official OTA pie update. S9 does not have stabel OTA pie. Infact, both Xiaomi and Samsung are really slow.

In principle, I advise you against it,
I have Mi8 it is very good phone at an excellent price, I moved from Galaxy Note 4
Mi8 battery life is great, usually I get +7 hours of SOT, and sometimes I reach 48 hours of use on one charge.
display is great, colors and brightness
I don't play games on it but the performance is smooth in general
the design and dimensions are very good also
the finger print sensor is fast , convenient and well placed.
charging is faster than Samsung's
I have used Samsung's software for years and I like, but you can easily get used to MIUI.
the stock camera software is not that good, but you can use a Gcam port like I do.
I have one complain about the Mi8 which is the speaker loudness, it is nearly inaudible if compared to my previous Note 4.
if you "need" a new phone immediately it will be a very good choice at a budget.
If you are looking for an upgrade from the S8, I think you Mi 8 is not a suitable one, neither the OP6T, especially with that in-display slow andn insecure finger print sensor.
I explained my reasons here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/how-to/love-mi-8-t3876024.

You will notice the difference in sound quality if you have an In-ear monitor (IEM) like KZ ZSN.
but price wise, and performance yeah I will definitely choose Mi8. will just need to unlock and tweak the audio. cheers
I've done it myself and I can say that I love the MI8 for its overall performance and MIUI10 which is to me so far the best Android experience. I do miss some stuff tough like the wireless charging and IP68 certification which was really nice to have. But I don't regret my purchase.

I have the The mi 8 pro (in UK) and can confirm that the camera is nowhere near as good as the Samsung.

Hi folks I just shattered the screen of my Redmi Note 3 SD version (RN3). I had this phone since early 2016 and though it's still working and I could prolly do a service job on it for $50 and extend its life to a year or so I feel sticking to this phone any further wouldn't be to my advantage.
So I'm in the market for a new phone and I would really love to hear your precious advise so I may get the best available option for my hard earned bucks.
My budget is around $350. I'm not a brand fan boi, I don't mind going for unknown brands if the build quality is there. B/C with a good build quality you can get the best out of your phone under XDA. So when I go for a smartphone the features I pay attention to are:
1-If the phone can handle recent games. If a phone can handle recent games odds are high that it will perform well in everyday life.
2-It must have a great community under XDA so that if the manufacturers aren't arsed to push updates, you can still get the best out of your phone by for e.g flashing a custom rom or the Google cam or flash the latest security patch and so on.
3-The camera specs should be good (not expecting pixel3 stuffs or p30 results), but should be able to take good shots when I go on road trips.
Having said that, phones that have caught my eye so far are the Huawei Y9(2019 version) and the Xiaomi Poco Phone F1. So what do you lads think!
The Huawei Y9 is out as per your stated requirements as they don't even allow bootloader unlocking. There might be unofficial methods. Poco F1 looks to be the best choice but I don't know if the initial issues like backlight bleeding, touch latency etc have been fixed. Redmi Note 7 Pro is another decent option but the price difference between its 6GB model and Poco F1 base variant is too little. Realme has opened up BL unlocking but the pace of development doesn't seem very encouraging. Otherwise the Realme 3 Pro appears to pack solid hardware. Dunno when the Poco F2 will be launched.

Wait for Mi A3 . not sure its launching date. it is android one device. Bootloader unlocking is very easy for android one phone.
Updates will given by google and not xiaomi. Also u will get 3 android updates. Spec will be same like rn7 pro.
Or buy rn7 pro. It has QC 4.0 charging and 4000mah battery.
From Kenzo, I used Tissot which is Mi A1 and now lavender which is Redmi Note 7.
Redmi Note 7 aka lavender as of now has very minimal development going on based on xda threads available. But the good thing is that it supports treble so gsi will provide you with a lot of custom rom and me myself is using a GSI now. Violet aka Note 7 Pro on the other hand has a better development than lavender. It has great camera too considering you are using gcam to full utilize the camera and also lavender's camera is Greta as well but not as good as violet. Lavender has Snapdragon 660 and violet has Snapdragon 675.

Question Should I go for the Nord 2?

I'm looking to buy a new phone. I'm looking at OnePlus, as I want something close to Android stock.
I'm not a power user, I just want a good daily driver that will last me a few years and has a good camera.
I initially thought about the Nord 8/128 for €300. Then, I noticed the 12/256 version is at 350, and thought it might be a better option due to extra RAM and space. appvalley tutuapp tweakbox
Then, I noticed that the Oneplus 8T is at 400 for the 8/128 version, and thought about going for that even thought it's slightly out of my initial budget... but all reviews point out that it has a crappy camera.
On the other hand, all reviews I've seen say that the Nord 2 has a good camera (or, at least, it's the better out of these 3). The 8/128 version is at 400, while the 12/256 is at 440.
So, in a pure Black Friday fashion, I went from planning to buy the Nord for 300 to aiming for the Nord 2 for 440. Am I aiming correctly, or is this a mistake I'm going to regret?
Nord 2 is much better than Nord. Period. You can do own research.

I cannot find better balanced phone than Nord 2. Reviewed OPPO, Motorola, Pixel, others OnePlus, Xiaomi, even Realme...
Few problems with being a OnePlus product and Mediatek SoC - so no easy to customize and custom ROM development. The update to Android 12 seems to bring Color OS to the phone. And seems a bit buggy, as per reports.
After almost 1 year of use rooted , very happy and stuck with latest OOS 11.3.
Edit: DN2103 12/256 bought for ~430€ on Amazon offer.
Why not the Nord 2T? The base model is only 20€ more expensive than the Nord 2 base model. I gifted it to a family member (not a power user) recently and they're very happy with it.
Also if software updates are important to you, you will get 1 more Android update on the Nord 2T vs the Nord 2.

I need a second phone so I looked few models. 2T was one of them. I didn't like the Android 12 + Color OS, which came out of the box. Reviewed the sub-forum for the model here.
I am concerned about Android security updates. Unfortunately with every update OP brings new, unpolished features, imho.
I like Oxygen OS. Not sure if Color OS introduced in Android 12 update and remove fastboot mode are better decisions, regarding end users ...
About the updates when feel outdated will switch to custom ROM. We will have mature ones in few months. There is some right now, too.
Cheers.
Why not a Samsung , realme , OPPO , Vivo phone ? Oneplus isn't now what it was once time ago ... Support is ZERO since they passed resposability to indians more then that MTK is a pain for rooting or else . Look to Android 13 , it is developped and beta relesead , we don't have a stable Android 12 , yet and there aren't any signs to receive it soon . Every new update release is a real mess and one after other they missed important characteristic being all so minimal .
In my opinion , don't buy !!!

OPPO and Realme are the same like OnePlus. Considering OPPO X3 Pro which is about 800€ now or less. Or X3 Neo ( a bit dated soc and screen ) but I am afraid that what happens with OnePlus will happens with two other brands. Realme GT2 an GT2 Pro are interesting, but as part of BBK we can expect the same. Buggy software and zero support as you stated.
About Samsung there are some not user friendly problems as I read, with the latest models, so discarded. Vivo 80 plus look great but it's price is 3x of my Nord 2.
What you really suggest to buy for 400-800€? Pixel 6? There are few review about it. Motorola Edge 30+ is now 600€. Maybe will go for it. And again, what are your suggestions? Thanks.
@ roldev : You're right , it's hard to pick one on global market phones today . We have a imense mid-range market , High-end are very expensive . What I noticed is all manufacturers have serious problems with software platforms like all specialist developpers are gone on other planets . Oppo , OnePlus , Xiaomi even Samsung released huge buggy updates beyond any understanding reasons . A few years ago there were updates tested and tested and tested and afterthat they released them by OTA or else . Today all seems to be a bunch of amateurs . It can't be right this way . Maybe all brands rushed to reveal a lot of new (but old) phones only for earn quick money to cover some market needs .

You are right. They focused on quantity and not on quality, to be more " competitive ". Investing in production and not in support.
My goal is to get a mid range phone with stable lineage os support. Hope this one will get such, despite of the Mediatek SoC.
Cheers.

Balanced device in a good price. Unfortunately, the OxygenOS updates are always very delayed. On the other hand, I have not experienced any important bug yet. For me, the ColorOS transition was successful. You can choose Nord 2T, it's slightly better.

ColorOS better than Oxygen OS? I hope you are right. 2T vs 2. Can you provide data? Not the marketing ones. Any benchmark or unbiased review? Newer not always means better, trust me.
1300 is rebranded 1200 with less performance.
The new firmware become more 'closed' to avoid need of support...
Two examples.
Sold my Nord 2 after two months. Far to many errors with it....
Assistant wont work from the lockscreen
Whatsapp voice message recording stops after 2 secs
Often charging only to 80% with optimized charging disabled
Bluetooth volume in car all over the place and not staying where I set it.
And also this "still on Android 11" update farce.....
Got a Xiaomi 11 T pro now which is much better value for money....
@terry_mccann maybe you got refurbished and 'tweaked' unit.
11 months with the Nord 2, here and did not face such problems, neither others.
Rock solid, stable, good performance and usability staying on oos 11 a_20.
Always update few months later to be sure that the bugs are fixed.
Despite de Mediatek SoC, there are few custom roms on active development for future. Lineage, Leos, Pixel experience, phh among others.
Even more, today bought the second Nord 2 on offer 350€ for 12/256 so I will clone 1:1 my 2 phones.
I choosed this model over OnePlus 9 pro for 660€ (12/256), Motorola Edge 30 pro (12/256) for 540€ or Motorola Edge 30 (8/128) for 360€....
The Nord 2 works well in my office with demanding workflow, in the fitness and the swimming pool, supporting some humidity even no oficial IP rating.
No bugs here. Rooted with magisk for 11 months. Hope this helps.
Cheers.

In my opinion I couldn't see any stupid thing like that in history of manufacturers , it's so retarded ideea ... Despite their capabilities such of error with Corning Gorilla Glass is a real mess .

Yeah, their reason is that GC3 has better scratch resistance than GC5. So it's ok if you never drop your phone
Few bad decisions about this phone avoid it to be really good.
Really hope to have good 100% working custom ROM with easy update for the Nord 2. It's very popular and there's a lot projects...

Question Worth upgrading to the Pixel 7 or should I wait for the Pixel 8?

Hello Pixel Fam! I have been using Pixel 6 for quite sometime now and I have fallen in love with the Google Ecosystem and Stock Android Experience of the Pixel 6. Haven't really found a fault with my Pixel 6 soo far except for the battery performance which seems to have reduced. I have heard lots of rumors about the Pixel 8 and Google Fold being the next flagship devices to come out from Google and was wondering if I should switch to the Pixel 8? Im not really confident about the Pixel Fold and since they cost a fortune, I'd rather upgrade to Pixel 8 or Pixel 7.
I would like to know all of your suggestions, Should I get the Pixel 7 or wait for the Pixel 8 to get launched? Or rather just hold on to my Pixel 6?
All replies would be highly appreciated!

Honestly, wait for the Pixel 8 since you dont seem to be bothered by the Pixel 6. So I guess you can give some more time since Pixel 8 is on the way to the market!
if you have no real reason to switch, stick with the P6.
P7 has zero advantages.
