Question Smart Lock Trusted Places - Google Pixel 6

Using Trusted Places has been a thorn in my side. It worked about 4 phones ago, but never since. I've tried several work arounds, but still the dang phone requires me to put my stupid finger on the display so often. It's frustrating.
Does this work for anyone else?

yeah, same here. also with my Pixel 5a. my TicWatch works great though as trusted device. So well that I had to turn it off due to accidental touches in my pocket.

Working on P6, but the radius around my house is half a mile.

Hey! It's working. I noticed the phone was stating, 'Manually locked'. I must have been forcing a lock. Now I double tap to wake the phone an it's open!

As with all my previous devices, it worked for a solid 1.5 days and now it stopped working again. Guess they will never fix it. Whenever I set it up from scratch, it will work for 1-2 days and then stop working for no reason. It's so unreliable. Wish there was an option to tie smart lock to a Wi-Fi network. Guess without root, I'm out of luck...

You're able to get Smart Lock (with trusted places) working for 1-2 days? That's amazing.. I though it's only for "4 hours"?
Here's what I don't get..
So in the Trusted Places screen, it has a note at the bottom saying:
"Your device will stay unlocked for up to four hours..."

However, when I click on the "Learn More" link at the bottom to get clarification, it says this:
When you don't use your phone for 4 hours, and after it restarts, you'll need to unlock it

So which is it? Seems like both of those statements are different.
Either way, I tested this by enabling Smart Lock and setting a timer for 3hr59m. When the timer alerted, I confirmed that Smart Lock was still working. After 1 minute, Smart Lock stopped working.
Is this the expected behaviour that after 4 hours, Smart Lock expires?

It should probably say, "When you don't use your phone for 4 hours, or after it restarts, you'll need to unlock it."
Your phone will lock itself after 4 hours of non-use as well as anytime it is restarted. Both of these are true.

Yeah that makes sense. However I noticed that after waking up this morning, my Smart lock was still functional! It seems very buggy.

I'm also having issues re-instating the Smart Lock (using Trusted Places) once it "expires".. I keep trying to toggle it on, and then off again, but with many failed attempts.. I then just remove all my "places", started fresh, and it worked.. no idea and not intuitive.

My solution to sticky slider.

Whenever I try to unlock my streak, half the time I get the sticky slider then can't unlock it (even if I try shutting screen off then turning it back on) for a minute or two. It drove me crazy.
I noticed when I get it though, if I turn the screen off then turn the streak into portait position and turn the screen back on, no sticky slider
Hope this helps you guys.

It might be a screen calubration issue, i just calibrated my screen and will report bsck in a few days
You know, after moving from the iphone to Android I spent so much time playing with the lock screen, mainly because I could I guess. I installed Wigetlocker and had gotten my lock screen to the point where it was a regular work of art.
Then one day it dawned on me that if I wasn't using the lock screen for security (as in, with a code to unlock the phone), that there wasn't really a point in having one.
So, I installed "No Lock" from the Market, and I have never looked back. Now, when I hit the power button, the phone is just on. Works great, and I have experienced ZERO negative effects. The phone has never turned on in my pocket, and the screen lights up just fine when a call comes in. I don't miss my lock screen at all.
Sure, I still have to deal with a slider to answer a call, but that's a heck of a lot less often than every time I want to turn my device on to look at it.
Anyway, just a thought for those who might be tired of dealing with a sticky slider on the lock screen.

[Q] ICS

with the new ICS coming just around the corner, I have tried to do so research on it, but still do not know a couple of things, is it smoother, and there seem to be a wifi issue, sometimes I have to keep manually connecting to the wifi after unlocking the screen, will that still be an issue. I think for me that was one of the big issues sothey must have fixed it with the ICS update.
Wifi has not been resolved. I am fine when not hibernating but even with it set to stay on it always disconnects when the screen goes off or in the cradle. Sucks but nothing I lose sleep over.

The wifi issue is easily solved by downloading "Advanced Wifi Lock" from the market. Just install that and it's instantly fixed!

Issue hasn't been resolved YET. ICS has not been released and as far as I am aware 3.2.1r2 was the last update issued anywhere and the WiFi issue was only just starting to become apparent when that was pushed out. Give Sony a chance to work it out.
I was watching qvc this morning and they are selling a coby tablet that has ICS on it. Lol
I wish we can get it already.
The tablet s I bought here has no issue with the wifi problem mentioned.
Most of the times, I don't have that problem, but I think it's just the reconnection that is fast enough to not bother me.

Hmm I thought this was normal and always the case. Mine connects quick in half a second or a second.
But the issue if its even called an issue, the feutre I would like is when Im downloading something the needs the internet I would like for it to keep the internet connection active/on while it goes into standby mode where the screen goes black on its own depending how many minutes if you have the timer for, or if you manualyy put it in lock mode by hitting the power button one time.

Which firmware version are you on then?? Mine is THMAS0032400.
Here I am again, and mine also have the "never disconnect wifi" option selected and works ok. I put a big file copying from my lan, then the tab entered in the standby mode, and after a while I checked again and the file was copied, so no connection dropped in my case. And I also remembered that even in standby I hear the new emails notification and the green light starts blinking also, so no drops here.
Mine has THMAS0112400, 3.2.1 r2, kernel 2.6.36.3, Portuguese edition.

No HTC workaround?

About two days ago I noticed a dead pixel on my EVO. I was still under my 30 days with bestbuy so I took it up there after work and the guy agreed and got me another one. After I left the store I went to a friends house who's birthday it was & charged my phone up etc etc. After it charged I started to play with it and noticed that the multi -tasking was working flawlessly ..no reloads just like my rooted HTC EVO 3d when i had sense 4.0 on it. Also that HTC work around Apple patent thing was not on this unit. I went on the internet and clicked the address box and everything was highlighted like normal instead of it just clicking in the box and to the first letter. It also appeared to run better ,faster ,epic battery life etc etc. But it was one f****** problem. The damn sensor did not work & at one point the sensor light was visible. it was like a lil red dim light. So I had to go back to bestbuy & get another one & its business as usual. The HTC workaround is on this phone ,the multitasking sucks again and it just doesn't feel the same operation wise as the one yesterday...but the sensor works. I think I should have kept the one from yesterday and just dealt with the sensor error. But has anyone else had a phone without the work around or heard about other people in the same situation??
another weird thing
Another weird thing ....The phone I had with the bad sensor had all my wifi codes automatically...like when i went over my firends I didn't have to put the wifi code back in , it just connected and when I finally went home it just connected. this new phone I have now requires my to reput the codes in.

WatchOn app?

I'm having trouble getting the WatchOn app to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Seems like it works randomly. My OTS would turn on out of no where but never from the actions I defined.
I think this may have something to do with the sensors not working properly right now.

I liked the style of the app and the config page made me feel it would turn on when I wanted it, but the screen never ever ever never turned on once using it.
I tried a Screen Shake On app from play store, but it would only work for about two minutes after the screen went dark. Now I just push the power button, but am keeping my eye out for a good app to get this function.

Interestingly I've noticed that the app works great...as long as i'm connected to an external power supply. If i disconnect it...you know, to wear it or something...then it doesn't work.

Is this related to why the calibration screen appears to be perfectly consistent and it looks like the sensors are fine, but then once the screen has gone to sleep, it will wake up again for movements and orientations that seem to bear no resemblance to how it was set?
At one point I was halfway convinced that it was consistently waking up when I had the watch rotated to about 30 degrees closer to vertical and 45 degrees counterclockwise (using the face as the clock) from the settings I'd given it, but then I concluded I must have been inexplicably inebriated when I determined that.

I don't have any app of this type loaded at the moment. Sometimes I still catch the screen on. So, don't assume every time you see it lit up it's because of the WatchOn app. This thing is just 7 kinds of silly and does what it wants.

They still have not fixed the security and root issues I told them about in November. Mainly because they lack the skills. The only reason the sensors and app work on the EU 512/4 is because I fixed it by pulling the kernel from another x201.

I gather that means yes, theoretically, but it's far less likely.
I've installed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adl.appshakerShake and it seems to work pretty consistently (although the balance I have found for being able to activate it when I want without it activating because I scratched my nose or something is at a sensitivity of 9, which roughly translates to "vigorously rotate my wrist back and forth for about a second."
I just remembered I haven't reinstalled E-Robot since my last flash and I never got around to trying to use it to create a "turn the screen on when the watch shakes a lot" action; I may try that soon.
Shake is one of the very few that do work. I haven't tested them all but may include it in the next release as well as remote camera control for those that are doing the BT companion workaround.

Action when shaken: Simple - Turn Screen On
Sensitivity: 8 is working well for me, I recommend trying a little higher while you're attempting to get it to work...8 is a pretty vigorous back-and-forth rotation of the wrist for me.
Service State: On
Start at Phone Startup: checked
Active when screen is off: checked
Battery saving mode: unchecked
Vibrate when shaken: checked
Notify when shaken: checked (I think Turn Screen On is one of the actions for which this doesn't do anything)
Most shake or position based wake apps do not work on the 1/8 1900. Even Shake is inconsistent and it's the best so far.

GPS lock issue, finally solved !

Hi guys,
Many of us, including me, got a GPS lock problem. We have problem to get GPS lock in a decent time and when it got a lock, sometimes, it will loosed again.
I have read many post regarding this topic, some argue that it was hardware, and some tells, it was software.
Well, in my opinion, both were true, GPS signal in this phone is low or even below average.
But recently, I found the cause. For weak signal, probably, it was hardware, nothing can do with it, but for locking issue, I am pretty sure it was software problem and can be fixed by changing ROM.
I tried a few ROM based on 10B, but none gave a good GPS Lock. Then I tried another ROM based on 10F and 10G, and both were good.
First boot, when ROM just installed, I got GPS Lock around 10mins, but after that, it could lock under a mins, sometime even sec.Booting again, still gets a decent time in GPS Lock.
So I think it was software issue and can solved it by change it to a different ROM. Btw, not every ROM based on 10F or 10G has a good GPS lock.
EDIT : GPS lock is tested without using Internet connection via data mobile or via.
EDIT : PM me if you want to know ROM that have a good lock on GPS, can't write in this post due regulations, sorry.

Just a quick note: GPS lock can be very quick if your compass calibration is right. Just recalibrate your compass.

I think the Compass is the problem with my phone. When I am in MAPS and driving North and stop, the pointer moves east to west. When I start driving again, it'll continue it's course, but occasionally it'll think I'm turning and try to reroute me back on course. I'll try calibrating my compass and test.
Update:
My Compass seems correct, but it's turned backwards in Maps. Maybe there is a problem with Maps detecting the compass settings.
The Tool listed quoted shows North to my left when sitting at my desk. Open up Maps and my heading is pointing to my right (south) when it should be facing my monitors (I'm facing East). So Maps has my compass off my 90 degrees which throws off my Navigation.
It almost seems like it's trying to point in landscape mode, but when I do that, the screen spins and is off again.

This is nonsense. A COLD start on a GPS will take NO LESS than 10 minutes and quite a bit longer if you don't have a clear view to the sky and satellites in view. Period. So if it's "quick", which I presume is nowhere near 10 minutes, it's not a cold start. Therefore it has ephemeris data, which is what the internet connection (A-GPS) provides.
I got GPS to work on my phone by flashing a stock rom, obtaining a solid lock, wiping, and then flashing cm11. Lock held. i remember having to do exactly this for the droid 3 (or maybe it was the bionic) for gps to work. it's a pain, but it worked for me.

Cold or Factory: The receiver is missing, or has inaccurate estimates of, its position, velocity, the time, or the visibility of any of the GPS satellites. As such, the receiver must systematically search for all possible satellites. After acquiring a satellite signal, the receiver can begin to obtain approximate information on all the other satellites, called the almanac. This almanac is transmitted repeatedly over 12.5 minutes. Almanac data can be received from any of the GPS satellites and is considered valid for up to 180 days. Manufacturers typically claim the factory TTFF to be 15 minutes.

So your device has empheris data. Maybe stale. But it's there.
And yes, it uses A-GPS by default. Zero chance it doesn't.
So I just turned on airplane mode, cleared AGPS data and rebooted. Less than 2 1/2 minutes to get a lock indoors. D801.

Have you look at gps.conf file? A-GPS is not enabled yet in that file.
I see you have nexus 7, this device is not A-GPS supported, but it also got a lock even faster than G2, even not in a very clear sky view.

Of course the Nexus 7 can use A-GPS data. And I have a LG G2 as well.
I'm out of this thread, way too much nonsense

Ha ha, never heard nexus 7 2012 WiFi supported A GPS, take a look its technical specs.
G2 is supported, but like I said, it is not enabled yet. You have to enabled it if you want to use it.

And it's just as true as your blanket statement was false.
Without doing the above, it's a matter of a few seconds even with google location off.

I got GPS to work on my phone by flashing a stock rom, obtaining a solid lock, wiping, and then flashing cm11. Lock held. i remember having to do exactly this for the droid 3 (or maybe it was the bionic) for gps to work. it's a pain, but it worked for me.
