Question Styles and grid option missing on latest Android 12 release? - Google Pixel 6

Hey folks, I came across a Google thread where users have reported missing the option to change grid size, as well as icon styles. The option is present on a separate phone I have with Android 12, but not my new P6P. My phone has been updated with the most recent system update.
Anyone else experience this?
Just got the Android 12 update on my pixel 5 and themed icons and app grid are missing - Google Pixel Community

I just got my 6 on Thursday and yeah it's missing from mine as well. But oddly enough my pixel 5 running 12 stable has it working. And this isn't he second post I have seen about this issue so I think it's a p6 problem.
Personally I am not too impressed with the p6 in have the base model not 5he pro. I absolutely do not regret getting it because it's still better than the p5 but I was hoping for much more. It might be a little.too early to tell though. This tensor chip in think needs time to adjust to you and your habits. So after a month ifnits still slow and laggy then I know informant issue

Android 8.1

I know Samsung is slow with updates but does anyone know if we're ever going to see 8.1 or are they waiting another 12 months for Android 9
.1 updates rarely have anything in them that aren't nexus and pixel related. all the stuff for none pixel devices tends to be in the security patches, hence why for the most part samsung rarely if ever updates to them anymore.
the only release devices on the .1 variant as a selling feature as lots of thick people think it's better to have 8.1 than 8.0 so they upgrade a s9 to a note 9.
it's all PR and in no way an actual upgrade
As mikeyaj said, 8.1 has next to nothing in it. Here's an article: http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/...-release-date-download-changes-phones-3317301
Sure, BT battery levels would be nice, but, the device has to support it, and I'm pretty sure Samsung baked it in anyways. LG I know did on my old v20.
The only other notable thing is the fingerprint deactivation after X failed attempts. Nice and all, but for someone frequently forgetting to dry a finger first, I'm not even sure I'd use it.
Now if it was some huge memory leak or something, sure, let's get 8.1 to the masses, but Samsung is struggling with security patches. There's really no reason to invest in testing 8.1 for the few things it adds.
Honestly the biggest thing I am looking forward to is the limited notification sounds per second. Nothing is worse than coming out of Android Auto to 45 seconds of notification sounds. I can mute the phone for a moment to bypass this, but it would be nice if I didn't have to use a workaround.
The only thing I want is dark theme in settings menu which is baked into 8.1

No it isn't....... Even the Pixel hasn't had the option to switch dark mode for the notification shade until the latest Android P Developer preview

The update to 8.1 on Nexus improved battery and performance. Others may argue differently, but I would like to see it come to the S9. Major releases are always buggy and is the code that was developed to meet the deadline. The intended functionality usually comes out in the x.1 release.

SONY Bad Android 9 Pie

We should let SONY know that the current Android 9 Pie is the worst lazy treatment since the SONY upgrade system.
Xperia XZ3,Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Premium, XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, XZ1 and XZ1 Compact, XA2, XA2 Ultra and XA2 Plus, which can be upgraded to Android 9 Pie, should be displayed to tell SONY about the Android 9 Pie experience.
For details, please go to the Xperia Support Forum.
XPERIA XZ3 Discussion - Article title: SONY Bad Android 9 Pie
Let the user wait for a long time, Pie is finally updated.
The update found that it is very different from the Android 9 Pie we know.
SONY's Android 9 Pie seems to be android oreo 8.1 experience
We lack many important features
No New-System-Navigation & Digital Wellbeing & Slice & actions
There is no change in the Setting UI.
Perhaps SONY developers should refer to what is Android 9 Pie
This is just a waste of time for the XPERIA XZ2 participating in the Android 9 Pie test.
Other complaints
1.Always on display Why not do a unified drop to all Android 9 models only XZ2 series
2.No. There is still no port Systemui with new clock (XZ Premium, XZ1, XZ1 Compact)
3.GOOGLE active marketing developers should have a dark theme
The dark theme that our sony music APP and Sony Album APP already have.
But should the apps used by Sony Phone, Sony Contacts, and Sony Mobile SupportXperia keyboards also include the dark theme option?
I don't want the "new" navigation that is in Google's launcher. It looks awful and less usable than the "old" one.
Auto super slow-mo
All I wanted from this dumb update was AUTO SUPER SLOW-MO...nope.
It's xmas so a little gift like an S9 would do me good right now
This update has has been terrible, for the sake of simplicity sony is just doing nothing and calling it stock experience. This is the laziest iteration of an update and it hasnt even come to canda yet. 2 months of update and nothing yet here in canada.
The phone seems slower than that of oreo, the phone heats up more than ususal even when doing simple things like browsing and listeniung to music. The camera application is slower, touch is sometimes unresponsive. This update is very buggy in my opinion and sony f******up big time. All samsung fans will be treated to something new and all sony fans have been using the same **** ui from xperia z1 with minor changes
OP, you're an idiot. Android 9 (or any other major update) isn't about a new UI. It's the technology in the background that makes it worthwhile.

what do you mean by auto super slow-mo ?
Does anyone have wifi issues with android 9? I use to have to reboot my phone at some point because it won't take any wifi communication any more (on oreo)

No, change in UI for an update is stupid in a consumer sense.
I am sure 90% of the users will find it confusing, one day when you wake up, the whole UI has changed and you have to learn again. If I were a developer, I would hold the UI until I release a new phone. However, I think they should have include an option to enable the new navigation though, as well as the dark theme.
Overall, I like the new pie update. Its smooth and responsive.

How many have this update installed?
My gf got the update on her phone and wifi is really acting up.
It seems like when connecting it works for a few seconds, speedy like it should be and suddenly the wifi connection speed is down to 2mb no matter how close to the ap the phone is, and I'm running Cisco AP's so the network is not the issue.
I REALLY hope someone has some clue how to perhaps fix this without rooting the phone.
I have my own rooted and still on oreo and it seems that I will stick with oreo for now on my phone.
For me its very important, battery drain its really great, on oreo battery drain fast, new system ui looks very good, settings has been changed in many sections, and super slowmo in full hd..

I think what the OP is saying is the lack of Elegance in the UI. Looks blocky and almost like Android 6.1. They could at least implemented the rounded edges in the notification shade. Little things like that go a long way.
Does it drain battery lesser than it used to in 8.1? Is it worth upgrading?

Notifications disappear after a few seconds

I have notifications enabled but they disappear after a few seconds, is that normal behaviour?
MIUI version stable 10.0.5.0(ODTMIFH) Global version.
Yes. They disappear and then the clock appear.

This is really weird, more coming from Android One... Why have a small notch if you don't take advatage of the remaining space?
I'm even regretting a bit of the purchase, seeing that Honor 10 doesn't have that behavior in addition to having already Android 9 Pie. I just hope that the roms like Pixel Experience or Lineage 16 stabilize fast, and in a month or two make the change of Rom.
It is very good mobile at a great price, but details such as these greatly impede the experience.
I did some reading about the lack of notifications. There are a lot of complaints about this, but I think they will come. If your phone is unlocked you can install a custom notification file, that will bring back your notifications. For notifications in the Official Stable version we will have to wait.

My wife has the 8 Lite but I have a Poco and the notch os huge. Even being like that it's possible to adjust thing to put the clock and the three notifications icons there. The 8 Lite has so much space.

Note 10 One UI 3.0 Update (UK)

Hi guys,
Which regions have received the update. The UK hasn't. And if you've personally received it, tell ua about your experience and whether its worth upgrading to.
You can track the rollout on sammobile. It seems that it's quite fast actually.
Got it a few days ago. Can't say I see a major difference.
There are some UI tweaks. For example, I like the layout changes in the "Settings" and totally hate the change in the Notification/Quick Panel (less buttons per page).
The current version of Good Lock doesn't work on One UI 3.0 which is a bummer, but they to plan to fix it soon (talking about February at the moment).
Don't see much change in performance or battery life.
Android 11 with OneUI 3.0 is a joke

I just got Android 11 on my sim free Note 10+ 5G in the UK this morning.
Too soon to see what's different yet.
Have to say, this is the first time in a long time when i actually feel the need to do a complete wipe. So many oddities on upgrade, Lock screen is a mess, no clock will show up, click clock in settings under lock screen no capable app available warning is shown. Click on Always On display, nothing happens (in settings it states tap to show when toggled on but does not show anything.)
Phones long overdue a full wipe so will Odin a fresh install and see how that goes
Okay well i sorted those issues forgot i had package disabler pro installed which does not work on this version, so rectified that the only issue i have left is the video camera has become unusable with micro stutters all over the place regardless of the the settings i.e image stabilisation on off hdr on off 1080p 30 or 60 hevc on off, its basically become unusable now
New Zealand - received OTA 5/2/21. No post update issues.

Question Problems with the Xperia UI vs. MiUI

[Please read the edit at the end. Thank you!]
Hi. I recently bought an Xperia 1 III, coming from a Xiaomi Mi 9T. I didn't realize how many things from MiUI I would miss straight from day one, namely the following.
Things I miss from the MiUI "recent apps" screen:
- The 2x2 layout. The stock Android horizontal layout is almost useless on a 21:9 display, I can't see to the side of the current app.
- The ability to pin apps to prevent them being closed when pressing "close all".
(- The ability to blur apps, but this isn't really an important one.)
More general concerns:
- Native support for scrolling screenshots.
Somewhat stupidly on my part, I did not factor in the UI before buying a Sony phone and now my experience with it is somewhat frustrating. I also just now realize that the scarce popularity of Sony devices means that few custom ROMs will likely be made. I invested in this phone and I intended to keep it for several years (it has everything I might need, hardware-wise) but the software experience is currently a let down.
Since I am still in time for a refund, what do you recommend? Are the custom ROMs (for other devices) that solve my issues, besides of course MiUI, that I might hope to see on the Xperia?
EDIT: I only now find out that you can, in fact, change the recent apps screen since Android Pie. I had read you could not, but the article was from 2017. My bad.
I guess my question now becomes: is there a way to install the MiUI recent apps screen?
I wouldn't think that you can install the MiUI recent apps screen without having to have full MiUI on it through some sort of custom ROM (though I may be completely wrong about that). Hoping to see some sort of ROMs start to exist in the near future.
I've been in a similar boat too though. Coming from a Oneplus 8 Pro, the software experience is very much lacking by comparison.
For me personally, one of the seemingly minute, but still noticeable things that really bothers me, is the old-school looking Android font. Sony doesn't allow you to change it, either. Also, even with an 888, the phone also struggles a lot when it splits two apps onto the screen, where the Oneplus (on an 855) didn't.
