Trying to get one-handed mode working for a disabled co-worker. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all. My coworker lost a portion of her dominant thumb recently. She's on a Pixel 2 on Android 11. Is there any way she can permanently make the phone's screen only take up a smaller portion of the whole display? So in essence, to have a decent chunk of padding on the left and top parts of the screen so she can always reach every part of the screen?
Her phone is rooted. We tried a few DPI and resolution changer apps, but none of them did what we want which is to have a bunch of padding to the left and from the top, permanently.
Preferably the setting would be permanent and not needed to be turned on, and will work across all apps. We tried the "One-Handed Mode" module for Gravitybox but it did nothing when applied.
Is there any way to accomplish this with an ADB command or some sort of app that we haven't found yet?

Anyone?

If downgrading to Android 10 is an option, overscan would work like a charm.
wm overscan [reset|LEFT,TOP,RIGHT,BOTTOM]
wm density [reset|DENSITY]

Google it...

Thanks for the snarky and useless reply; this video only makes the keyboard work with one hand, not the entire phone screen.

Sadly downgrading isn't an option but is there any way to do this in Android 11 if she's rooted?

Sorry to hear about "her" power tool incident.
The most important small appendage on the human body.
Texting will never be the same.
Short of a prosthetic or transplant, adaptation is the only alternative and all the former have their limits.
There's this on the Note's... it's in the firmware, not an app. whatever...

Yes which is why I specifically asked if it can be done on a Pixel phone that is rooted.

[Q] How to fix roms cutting off part of applications on screen?

I have issues with some applications getting cut off at the bottom of the screen when using roms such as the AT(HoneyComb)RIX 3.4 EXT4 or the Alien one. I can still scroll to the bottom of the application using the rest of the screen but there will still be part of the screen gone the whole time. Off the top of my head it does this with my SSF4AE guide app, on every single page. Also using handcent I have a similar problem; the background is not appearing fully when I go to my list of text messages
Ive been using Alien for weeks and dont have this problem on any on my 700+ apps, including Handcent which is prob the one I use more than any other.
I had the SSF4AE app problem on both but the handcent problem was only on AT(HoneyComb)RIX 3.4 EXT4

I just thought about this, my photobucket app has appeared to be shrunk ever since Gingerbread, you can see it doesn't quite take up my screen.. But it sounds like you are having the opposite problem, the app is too big to be displayed on the screen right?
Edit: i think its not showing correctly because of my photobucket privacy settings.. But it is just slightly smaller than the screen, it has a black border all the way around. Also I dont know what SSF4AE is.
Its just a guide for a fighting game that I use frequently.
It's supposed to look like this http://i.imgur.com/NaI1e.jpg
but it looks like this http://i.imgur.com/oDByS.jpg
I didn't notice until now that you mentioned your photobucket app being smaller that the sides are cut off a little too as well in this. I just took a picture from the web and edited it btw.
This thread says to download "spare parts" and toggle compatibility mode, Im gonna try that now and let you know.
Edit: Yup that worked for me! that should fix the problem for you too. Thank you for asking the question because it motivated me to find this simple fix. Im gonna hit your thanks button for that, if it works for you feel free to do the same lol. Also, strangly enough Spare Parts was also one of those apps that had a scaling prob haha, but its fixed now in that app as well. I cant say for sure yet if unchecking the "compatibility mode" causes any negative effects on other apps but it for sure fixed the scaling issue in photobucket and spare parts. Additionally, the "fancy input animation" is pretty cool it makes the keyboard slide up instead of just appear. Enjoy.
Yup that fixed my problem with the SSF4AE guide app. Thanks a lot . The handcent issue is still there but it might just be a problem with the theme..

how to get PIE (floating) controls to recover screen space?

Hi
How to get these PIE buttons or floating controls = (home, back, menu) and recover screen real estate? Thanks. It's so much faster to access instead of moving entire to bottom left corner.

Try searching for full!screen in Google Play. I've been playing around with it and it seems excellent -- after customizing a few default settings. There is a full!screen+ that allows you to apply app specific settings.
If you want to use it exclusively then you'll have to get something to display your notifications. I'm still shopping around for that.
WoW thankS !!!!!

Hi
How do you make use of Android 4
If you give me the link
Hi omidmomid,
Sorry I don't understand your question, can you elaborate further? thanks.
In case I think that you're asking how did I make use of Android 4 inside Jetstream???
Then the answer is NO, I don't have Android 4 inside Jetstream, I just want to add PIE on top of existing Android 3.1 honeycomb. The screenshot is not from Jetstream, I just borrow it from outer places to ensure everyone does not mistaken PIE. Sorry to have confused you.

[Q] Resizing Android applications (NOT resolution)?

Hi everyone.
I was wondering if there's a way to resize an Android application. I don't mean resizing the resolution, but I mean literally resizing the application so it only fits part of the screen.
Given the flexibility of Android I'd imagine this is possible, even though it would probably require root (isn't a problem for me).
You might be wondering why on earth I'd want this - well, simply put, it would be fantastic for multitasking. Nowadays there's a whole load of popup applications on the Play Store. But if say I run a popup video and browse the web, whenever I scroll to the top of the webpage, then half of that webpage will be covered up by the popup application. It quickly becomes more of a hassle than it's worth, because I'll have to keep moving around the popup video.
But if I could just force the browser to only take up half the screen, then I can very easily multitask with them.
So is this possible? Thanks in advance to anyone who has any info.
There are a few multi-tasking apps on the market but trust me, they all suck. I also have been looking into this and apparently this is harder done then said to have something like Samsung's Multi-Window.

That's a shame. I agree in regards to the popup apps though, it seems like anyone who makes them has no clue what even 'UI' means, haha. But irregardless it'd be really handy for this, since there are one or two actually handy popup apps.
So anyone else know of a way?
Why don't you use pie controls?
Edit: What kind of "multitasking" are you looking to do exactly?

Here's a good example of what I mean:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As you can see half the screen takes up for a notes app, and half the screen takes up the browser. What I'm looking for would be something similar, or in the case I described, a potentially easy fix - shrinking down one app to only take up half the screen and using another popup app to take up the other half of the screen to mimic multitasking. It doesn't have anything to do with Pie.
Understand what I mean now?

White shade on notification area

I mostly use black wallpapers, and i noticed a kind of while gradient shade on the notification area, is there any way to disable it ? I attached a image, not quite visible in the image.

Yes... This is a tipical burn-it sintom... I suggest you an hard reset asap or better a clean flash...
It's not screen burn in.
If you pull down the quick settings panel just enough to cover part that has the it goes away. I don't know if there is some sort of offscreen padding that would fix it.
I've also read (don't recall where) that it could be light leak because of the way the display is designed for a device (ours in this case).
p.s: I'm no developer. Just a regular user like others here.

Yeah it's not screen burn, cause it would have been every where if it was a burn, but it only appears on the homescreen

LG V60 ThinQ dual screen stuck in windowed mode

Anybody else having issue with all apps on the second screen showing in windowed mode instead of full screen.
Since the last update it seems to have made the default setting to be windowed modem and no longer getting fullscreen.
I can't seem to get it to go back the way it was before.

I didn't want to start a new thread. Can someone tell me if the second screen has its own speakers and cameras?

It does not, all sound comes from the phone itself.
The back camera is a little clunky to use with the dual screen since you have to have it folded out basically into Tablet mode to take pictures but its not too bad.

Ok thank you for replying. I don't take many pictures and only asked because it looks like there is a camera notch. Shame, I really wish they'd included speakers with the dual screen.
Thanks again.
Yeah it was an odd design choice. There is a camera cutout but no camera to match the main screen i suppose.
There is also a less noticable speaker cutout.
So when you have the case closed you can answer calls using the google assistant button without opening the case and the phones speaker passes through.
firefly6240 Airtioteclint
They kept the camera cutout for the symmetrical appearance , which is good.
But unfortunately lg notch hideout option won't work on 2nd screen.
I hate notch that's the thing keep me not update to lg device since lg g6.
But because of their mobile shutdown i had to update to v60 from g6.
