Question Root&Custom ROM's for Google Pixel 6! - Google Pixel 6

Please post your successsfull root, (Magisk) & Any successfull custom recoveries and or custom ROM's fully running on Google pixel 6 devices. Leggo developers!

The question is, why would you want a bloated rom with this great un-bloated device?
Pixels now days come with the best software available.
If you want to customize and root, use Magisk and custom themes.

Hopefully some developers will get these phones in their hands and start working on new ROMs, that's mainly what I'm waiting for to really start enjoying my P6 as well. A big one for me is to de-google the phone and go Lineage/Calyx/Graphene OS.

If by un-bloated you mean lacking any useful options then sure. But personally I want more options, like the ability to assign custom actions to navbar buttons, to hide the statusbar clock without leaving a huge empty space behind, to have PROPER accent colors I can define via HEX code and many many more.
On the other hand an UNbloated device shouldn't come with Gmail, Youtube Music, Google TV, Tags or any other crap preinstalled either, most of which I can't uninstall but only disable.

I can't wait to see what devs unlock with new kernels

Might take a while since Tensor is an unknown, but this would be a great device for Lineage.

"great un-bloated device"? Maybe as compared to adding even more bloat from the vendor and carrier, but these are VERY VERY far from bloated. They're disgustingly bloated. More g-spyware than anything I've ever seen.
So why would you want an **UN**-bloated build of AOSP? To get rid of the steaming truckload of dogsh**.

You can uninstall or freeze any app you want to. Easy peazy.
I just like having a clean OS with a few minor mods. Oh!, custom kernels are also helpful.
I guess you can call it OCD, after cleaning up people's PCs from all the crap that they installed with no clue on what it really does.
Some people just like installing crap on there phone for what...
Than they go from thread to thread to cry and ask for help because their device has problems.

No, you actually can't. Go ahead and try to disable play services and see where that gets you.

Google play is whole, different topic in its own.
Some people need it for different reasons than others.
Just like some people need Facebook Twitter, etc. For there life to continue on.
I do not need that kind of bloat ware in my life.

I've been using Android devices without Google Play Services by following this excellent guide on all my devices. I'm waiting for my Pixel 6 and will have a go. Not sure if it will work on Android 12, but will have go. In any case I'll be using Xprivacy Lua & AFwall+ for additional privacy.

Yes please keep us updated

With the latest update to the 37 firmware i currently have not been able to get a booting build working without gapps or gapps .
I get a build that boots but it reboots at random for both builds i am currently working to fix the issue and once i do i will be releasing both.

Shannonims restart loop? Set selinux permissive for now if you haven't already.

Proton AOSP early release

Just got my Pixel 6 today, can't wait for GrapheneOS been using it on my Pixel 4a forever. Looks like Pixel 6 support is underway.

gapps version is finally booting and i know why this error is there i need to swap from the current gapps im using to another one but i am closer to non bootlooping builds now since i fixed my issue in my source . i will have a non gapps version coming out sooner for those that dont want to use gapps it will not have spoofing at first i will add that later on.

I'm source building for the entire Moto device tree, each source build takes about 3-4 hours, so I have roughly 40ish hours of source building for 12 devices to do before this is completed.
Honestly though since this thread got a reply first I'll play favorites and finish this before everything else
Thank you very much !

@Tquetski Thank you very much for your efforts. You mentioned in the header of your post "All languages", does this mean the Chinese & English like default or did you manage to include further translations? If so, which?
the thread says "Droid Razr", does this mean there will be only XT912 version? Do you plan releasing a version for umts_spyder (XT910)?
Thanks!

My MIUI releases are international and include every avail language, in 2-3 hours I should be done with MIUI for this device.
I just finished my 'code test' for XT926, and have begun building for this device.**edit: As soon as building for already supported phones are done this is next
To be clear I don't care who is releasing MIUI for this phone, I'm doing this for 'completion' purposes and not to be in competition, It's my goal to fork MIUI to every device I can in bulk atm; I'm fine with people using the CM base I'm building for their own MIUI projects on this device as well, It's not about money or territory just fun
Um, this may be a little off topic but since the other MIUI thread is closed, I dunno where else to ask. I am trying to install the official santajin port of 4.2.7. So I am on clean 4.1.2 en.eu OTA. I factory reset erasing my internal storage. On the 2nd boot, after the android guy, I go into SS. I made a 1G/4G/1G slot 1 in SS, the maximum size. I installed MIUI 4.2.7. I clean cache/davlik. I reboot into system without installing gapps yet. That seems to be as clean as an install as I can think of. After going through the setup phase, I have about 70M/1G free and it goes down fast without doing anything. It's so slow it's basically unusable. I reboot again, same thing. Is this normal? This seems like I shouldn't even think of opening the default MIUI apps, forget installing my own stuff... I tried miuiandroid's version of 4.2.7 and it was the same. Oh BTW my device was asiaretail. What am I doing wrong here? This can't be what everyone is using...
Is this ROM cm based smali ported? Or offical 4.1 based?

I've already build CM10.1 for this device with source edits to accommodate MIUI's gfx and using that source base patched MIUI to it.
I can update this as MiCode updates their builds internally; as of right now the only thing standing in my way is your phones kernel, which is a little different than what I have experience with.
Even if I don't finish MIUI for this phone which may happen depending on how things play out with the kernel, I'll have still finished a suitable CM10.1 base for it that anyone can consider using for MIUI, Lewa, Color OS which would normally have severe GFX issues otherwise.
The XT925, XT926, XT907, XT897, XT897c, MB886, AtrixHD didn't have functional MIUI for a while even though the thread existed on XDA, It's a development site and since I've started this project I'm starting a thread for it, now I can push weekly updates to those devices on a solid CM base.
Truth be told I didn't like some of the posters who frequented one of my device forums and so I ignored the phone completely for uh.. a really long time.
I'm really not above being a dickhead too. Especially when you consider I'm just some guy not someone making a living off of this.
There you go dummy, I included a 'best of' because I know your attention span is real short
Edit: Project update for everyone else, everything beside the kernel is done. If I have to use your stock kernel I'll have to employ other options.
My friend kernel has always been a problem for us. For example we have only kexec kernel option and that didn't allow us to use our full hd camera till 4.4.2. With that I mean it would be maybe easier for u to build the miui with 4.4.2 which has a good functioning kernel with full hd video. But I dunno if it's possible. Just saying

MultiROM ≥v28 ability is now in the image (starting alpha2). New to MultiROM? Read here.
This is a community port of Jolla's Sailfish OS for the Nexus 5.
It features a gesture-based user interface with a unique design and ease-of-use in mind.
For more information about Sailfish OS please head over to sailfishos.org.
This is not an Android ROM, this is a different base of an operating system called Linux, running glibc library.
It only uses parts of Android for hardware enabling (drivers).
Special Thanks to the Nexus 5 porters situ & vgrade, and their helpers: alin, dmt, tbr, iKozzz, MultiROM author Tassadar, Jolla sailors especially jusa, spiiroin, phdeswer, Hannu Mallat, the HADK team, the Mer Project, the Nemo Project and all the fine people over at #sailfishos-porters
Release Notes:
This release is based on Sailfish OS 1.1.9.28
The Nexus 5 port is considered to be of beta quality.
Though depending on your usage it might be stable enough for daily use.

All remaining: In Bugzilla
ROM Kernel: Linux 3.4.0
Tips:
MultiROM users: if your primary ROM is Lollipop based, just install any Sailfish OS version accompanied with CM11 .zip, and you'll have best of both worlds working! Thanks to @julle131 for finding this!

This is really nice, thank you. I do have one question however, since the base is CM 11 M9, would this be compatible with MultiROM?
Edit : Nevermind, downloaded the image and extracted it, it comes with it's own boot image thus answering my question that it does not. Thank you.

You're very welcome, our team is non-the-less excited
Considering your question: Please volunteer to make this work under MultiRom et al. However for now you can always boot to underlying CM by doing "fastboot boot boot.img" or permanently flash it to recovery

not working for me, am I doing something wrong?
what I did:
1. flashed CM11 M9 then Jolla Image(not working stays on Google Logo, almost waited for 10 min and so then I rebooted phone by pressing power button, still dont work)
then i tried this:
extracted boot.img from cm11 m9 and flashed it via fastboot then flashed flashed jolla image from recovery, still no luck for me...:crying:
Any Help would be appreciated...
EDIT: never mind fixed the issue by flashing via twrp seems like phiz touch was having some issue...

[ROM][3/26/15] Pure AOSP ROM -★| 5.1.0_R3 | LMY47I | Build #6 | Proof of concept! |★-
Pure AOSP for the Nexus 6
Preface:
This is meant to be a Pure AOSP build with just minor edits to stop the stock recovery from replacing custom recovery, add some Google edits to the ROM for GPS, and modify the ramdisk so as not to preclude it from being rooted! Its not meant to be a fancy ROM, its just meant to be a baseline AOSP ROM. This ROM was produced by following the steps in the build guide I wrote. See post #2 for build guide links!
Install Instructions
Must have custom Recovery on unlocked device
Copy ROM to device (Gapps and root too!)
Reboot to recovery
Choose Factory reset (TWRP, not sure what CWM is)
Choose Install ROM
Now you can install the Gapps, and Root if you desire!

Hmm... I'll take this for a spin later. Thanks!
Is it safe to say with this being pure aosp shamu that it is still set to force encryption?
Also, the drawback of not doing the block style flashable is it takes several times longer to actually install via recovery.

Yes. Its pure AOSP.
Can you give me a calculation of time to install block based and file based ROM? Several times longer is a strong statement. If you could produce factual data I would appreciate.
However I am still not going block based installs because the user can take this ROM, add or remove things before it is even installed.
But I look forward to the numbers you show me! If you dont have the data that is fine. I can change the false to try in the script ota_from_tools and test it myself. Should only take a few minutes to recompile as block based.
But thanks for the input!
Took like 3-5 minutes to install your ROM and maybe 20 seconds to at most a minute to install either rastapop or cm12alpha. Honestly I thought it stalled or failed so I rebooted recovery and installed just your ROM (instead of gapps together via twrps) and it simply takes a LONG time to flash.
Great to finally see you here scrosler!!! Always great to welcome another knowledgeable developer to the forums

The exact numbers your reported time can vary buy almost 66%! Thats a huge variance.
Also, you are testing differnt ROMS. For a control I need to build this exactly as it is but block based.
I will test it on my device with a high end chronograph and report my results.
Also, what recovery are you using?
Ok, I timed the file based intall, it was 2:16.08 (which was closer to your 3 minute estimate but a far cry from the 5 minute estimate)
I will build a block based ROM tonight and test to see the difference. However its still very unlikely I would change the current set up. Although I could just post both! :highfive: Win Win for everyone :good:
But once again! Thanks for your input!
scrosler said:
The exact numbers your reported time can vary buy almost 66%! Thats a huge variance.
Also, you are testing differnt ROMS. For a control I need to build this exactly as it is but block based.
I will test it on my device with a high end chronograph and report my results.
Also, what recovery are you using?

I can time it if that helps, or you can test yourself if you would rather. As for recovery, the only one I know of is twrp, downloaded directly via their website (only one version there) and manually fastbooted in place.

We are cross posting. I timed it myself and it was just a hare over 2.25 Minutes. Which is not that far off from your assert of 3.0 minutes.
Im going to build the block based tonight and post it so people can have both options.
You brought a valid point. Once again, thanks for your input!
Edit: Also, wasnt trying to beat you up, I just like solid number comparisons.
Haha no worries, us old optimus s veterans need to stick together ?
Edit: if you wanted to remove the force encryption, it is a very simple fstab.shamu edit. Under the /userdata line, change "forceencrypt" to "encryptable". Looking at a few rom sources, that is how they all do it. That way if you are encrypted you will stay encrypted. If not, then it wont force encrypt you. Would save people from having to flash an alternate kernel . .

OMG!!! Optimus S? Are you serious? That was my first Android Phone / ROM!
Yeah, I know how to shut it off. But i wanted to leave this as close to pure AOSP as I could. I think I will shut it off on the next build though. I heard the encryption can slow things down a hair too.
Ok, I just got lost reading comments. Is this encrypted? If it is, does anyone mind letting me know what to do BEFORE I flash to decrypt.

You just flash a no force encrypted kernel which I basically any of them. And as @scrosler just said he may just build it into the next build.

And yes, same user name over at android central, I had DanteRom that I released. ?
EDIT:
DAMN! There is no comparison from Block Build and File based build
Block build was roughly 2 minutes and 30'ish seconds
Block based build was 10'ish seconds!
Hey Scott glad you are building for the nexus 6 are you planing on a Clean Rom also? Or just keeping it aosp

I'd say leave it encrypted for now until faux finally makes it to the threads...from his g+ posts it seems his found a way to keep the device encrypted yet have around the speed as though it was unencrypted. And he's a very open source guy so I'm sure he'll share the magic

OMG. COOL. I was thinking of making one myself, but you already made one. Saves me the trouble ?
Wanting to try this out, but not sure about two things. In the Drive folder, there is a Pie/Oreo kernel as well as a different version of twrp from what I'm using. Is it necessary to install both of these along with this rom? Thanks
I know this could seem unnecessary but please put each type of rom into different folders. It is starting to become a mess to find the right rom.
Hmmm, this rom is reporting as a Xiaomi MI6 phone. Technically not a big deal, but figured I point it out. Also, switching to the front facing camera causing the camera app to crash. Going to the app section in setting and clearing data for the camera app fixes the crashing, but will popup again if you switch to the front facing camera again.
This one could be me, but flashing Magisk causing two apps to show up. One more thing, the app icons don't "look" right, they seem to look round but are cut off at the edges.

Fingerprint only .. As xiaomi sagit ..to bypass safety net checks with magisk.
Stock Samsung fingerprint does not work on 64-bit.
Which camera app ?
Normally snap camera should have been installed .. Need to check.

You are welcome ..
Unlike to the upcoming RR Pie there are no regular builds planned for Pixel Experience.
If you plan building regular Pixel Experience ROMs .. Pls go ahead.

Just tried this rom. Camera works fine, using Open Camera app. I enabled the setting to use camera2 api in the app's settings first page. I started enabling it on all roms after noticing that it helps the flash to be in sync with the shutter on lineage 16 or crdroid rom. So maybe this setting helps the performance of camera in other ways also.
The gps was choppy at first, as usual for me (using T585) on pie roms. but after some idle time it stopped freezing the device and started getting a fix. So I hope the choppiness of the gps on pie roms is a one time thing after installing a new rom.

The one that comes with the rom. Back camera works fine, switching to the front camera causing the camera app to crash.
Great rom !! Thanks followmsi as usual for your hard work
Great job!
It's possible to wake up the device with the Home button and not only with the Power button?

Thanks for adding Home button to wake up the devices in the next build.
Cast screen doesn't work in this build.
There will be a future update of this ROM? At least add the Home button to wake up the devices
Thanks

Pixel Experience .. the final ROM
PixelExperience_gtaxlwifi-9.0-20190206-1143-UNOFFICIAL.zip
PixelExperience_gtaxllte-9.0-20190206-1435-UNOFFICIAL.zip
Changes:
- Google security updates -> February 2019
- Changed overlays to (hopefully) fix wake up with HomeButton -> needs testing
Pls go ahead and start building regular PE builds for SM-T580/585.
I just don't have the time to make regular PE builds too.
It's still a nice option for our devices.
Enjoy

Question ProtonAOSP 12.1 from @kdrag0n early access is worth it...

There's early access to ProtonAOSP 12.1 if anyone is curious. Installed this morning and it is very nice. Huge fan of the theming capabilities. Of course, you need to be a patron of his, but IMHO it's worth it.
Hope this does not offend @kdrag0n, but thought all should know about this great work.
Anyone else try ProtonAOSP 12.1 out yet?
This is good news, how's the install process with no custom recovery? God all I want is custom recovery
You install one of two ways. Install through a browser which is recommended by developer or download and flash like the normal factory image. Also, there is a vanilla version and a Gapps version. No custom recovery needed. Once installed, gaining root was same process as we use on factory OS.
Disclaimer, device data will be wiped when installing OS and of course wiped a second time when rooting (disabling verity and verification).

5G networks for all operators work on this Rom?
Hey OP, I wrote a small review of this ROM on reddit. I've been using ProtonAOSP on the Pixel 6 for about 5 days now and I can say that I quite like it.
I'm not too sure how the forums takes kindly to linking off site, but if a moderator feels this message should be removed I understand.

Yes, you need to unlock bootloader to install ProtonAOSP. Root is not needed. Concerning features, @VozerCozer's review gives a good overview.

Google's instructions are the best. Here: https://developers.google.com/android/images
Two things. One, unlocking your bootloader wipes your data. Two, when you install ProtonAOSP, your device will be wiped again.
Even though these are for the Pixel 6 Pro, the steps are the same, it's a good source.

No problem. I'm not using Proton now. Flashed back to stock so I could install @eng.stk blu_spark kernel last night. IMHO, one of the best kernels.
Given that, the ROM is very stable.

Too early to say.
To open up the ability to tweak some things to squeeze better battery life.
ProtonAOSP is different.
Cannot recall if you can remove the bottom navigation bar, but you do have the ability to select 2 button, 3 button or gesture navigation.
Been using blu_spark on 3 or 4 devices over the last 5+ years.
