Question Quick tap - one hand mode - Google Pixel 6

I enable quick tap and it works for a few minutes then does not. Change what it does or on and off works for a sec. What's up?
One hand mode works for a little bit then full screen on it's own.

As much as I don't like to bump a thread I'll make the exception here once.
1. Under system - gestures - quick tap, you can set a few different options for double tap on the back of the phone. I tried a couple of the options but decided to go with open notifications. I exit out and double tap and voila it works. Then I turn off the display or flip to shh or even put it in my pocket. When I take it out it no longer works. If I open settings and close it without doing anything it begins to work again. Wait a few minutes with screen off and it stops working. Am I missing something?
2. One handed mode. Either enable it for swipe down from bottom or a shortcut on the homescreen and it works. But as I'm reading it all of a sudden goes full screen again without even touching the phone.
So if anyone can replicate this behavior I'd be curious. I understand it's not a most used feature but it seems like a bug to me.

I have turned Quick Tap off because it doesn't work consistently for me. As you noted, it seems like it only works once you turn it on and/or you go back to the setting. Maybe this will be addressed in a future update?

I haven't used one handed mode much, so I can't weigh in on this one.

Starting phone from standy in landscape mode

So I have a habit of sliding the phone open and then pressing the hardware messaging key, and no matter what, it never seems to work. I press the button, and Ill see the today screen, but no messaging window. I have to slide it back closed and open again and everything sorts itself out.
I've tried looking, but haven't seen anyone complain about this particular problem. Anyone else fret about this? any solutions?
no one has this problem?

Kind of annoying thing, using black Satin... But i'll try schaps now to see if that goes away...

Im on WM5.
Vijay, I don't want to disable orientation permanently. Just sometimes, I want to start messaging, so in stanby mode itself, ill open and start it up. thats what confuses the 8525, thats all. I have to close the phone, and then slide it open again for it to regain consciousness!
Its no biggie, but i was just wondering if any1 else had a similar issue.
FINALLY... WHAT YOU HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR

I've come to notice that no one REALLY knew how to fully disable screen rotation on WM devices.
Some offered 3rd party apps to get the job done, some only knew how to disable automatic rotation, but when the device went into standby and woke up again - the screen rotated back. So that didnt really work.
So if you're as desperate as i was about screen rotation,
this is what you need to do:
1. Get dotfred's free taskmanager HERE, and run it.
2. Go to "Devices" tab, and look for "MIS1:" device (oem_misc.dll)
3. Long-Tap on it, and tap on "Stop"
4. Long-Tap on it again, and now choose "Set Manual"
5. Go to "Notifications" tab, and look for "Notifications\NamedEvents\VCPowerWakeupEvent"
6. Tap on it to make it selected
7. Disable it
(In dotfred's taskmanager, there should be a button for disabling it, but for some reason some devices couldn't see the button icons, although the buttons are still clickable. Under the notifications list there is an empty light-blue line - the buttons are there, eventough you can't see them.
The disable buttons is somewhere i the middle of that light-blue line, just tap the center until a message box popps up and asks if you'd like to disable this notification - Tap on yes.)All those steps are a one time deal - they stick even after an SR.
This has been tested on htc universal and works great.
The screen will keep its orientation even if you flip your screen, take out your built in keyboard, or turn the device off and back on.
The only time your screen will revert back to the original orientation is when you soft reset your device.
Hope this helps

Sounds like something Tasker can do. tasker.dinglisch.net
Thank you very much. That looks great! I dont have much time right now, but I will look into this on tuesday!
Only problem is: The app is about 5 €... :
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm&feature=search_result
Dont get me wrong, I will totally pay the 5 € for this app if it works, but since the policy change, I only got 15 minutes to try the app (which isnt nearly enough!).
Has anyone got the app and might try it, before i buy it???
Thank you!
I created a profile "Not Keyboard Out" -> System lock.
When Im closing the keyboard it's locking the screen
I guess it's probably possible to tweak it to lock after a few seconds.
There should be a 7 day trial of tasker on the homepage. I tested that one just a few weeks ago.
Tasker is great for other things too. I use it to set silent mode after 10pm and when I'm at the office (since it can detect your location) and a few other tricks to control Latify to switch mode depending on if I'm home or not..
i tried it out. It works great, thanks!
You have to make a profile:
Not Keyboard Out (and enable INVERT here!)
-> System Lock
However, I have NOT found a way to give me 2 seconds to prevent the lockscreen. What I've found out:
option a:
Changed "execute" to menu and created another action "vibrate for 1 ms" which i called "use screen". So now i can choose between use the screen and locking it. BUT the timeout is 10 seconds which is pretty much not what i wanted :/
option b:
set display timeout to 7 seconds (is minimum!)
make another option which uses the event "system lock" to set it back to 30 seconds.
but this isnt as good either, because when I dont want to lock it i have a 7 seconds timeout till the next locking... which is pretty short
option c:
can someone how got more skills with tasker help me?

[SOLVED] Turn off suggestions from settings in Nougat?

I really don't need to dismiss "on body location" yet one more time. Is there a way to turn off these things that appear unbidden at the top of Settings?
I'd like to stop these annoying messages too. Anyone know how to turn them off?

It took me awhile, but I think I've come across the solution.
First, you need to set up some kind of screen lock (not just swipe). I just used a "z" pattern. Next, tap on that annoying nag at the top of settings. This will lead you to some blah-blah. You need to enable this useless feature (which probably does not work on the NT anyway....) and then reboot.
Return to Settings>Security and look for "Smart Lock". Disable on-body-location. Now go back to your screen lock setting and return it to what it was (swipe, in my case). Reboot.
So essentially you need to enable the feature, reboot, disable the feature, reboot, and you're good to go.
Go to Settings and if the nag is still there use the three dots to banish it. It's gone for good
That worked. Thanks a ton for the tip!

Screen off memo - I Can't...

I like the Screen off memo feature where I can pull out the S-pen and start writing notes without turning my phone on! But none of the icons at the top of the Screen off memo work. They are all grayed out, kinda. When I press them, nothing happens so I can't change the width of the pen or anything. I checked my settings and don't see anything different from my wife's Note8 and hers works perfectly fine.
Anyone know how to fix this? Below is a screenshot of my phone and here is a tutorial video from Samsung...

My note 5 had this feature. Love it to death
Try toggle the Screen Off memo option on/off...also maybe try it in Safe Mode to see if it works there.
I don't see that 3rd pin icon one mine.?
By the way...read what I wrote in red below, weird but interesting....

True, a lot of people say they don't see the PIN icon. I don't see it if I'm on a call and my screen off memo works fine. But if I'm off a call the PIN icon is there but the screen off memo icons at the top don't work. BUT in SAFE mode all works fine and the PIN icon shows up. So I think we all have 3rd party apps that is screwing with the Screen off memo feature one way or another.

Thanks for the reply! I called Samsung tech support and they asked me to do the same same thing but still no luck. Here are the steps they gave me...
Open Settings>Advanced features>S Pen
Toggle the buttons on/of for (Air view, Direct pen input, Pointer, Screen off memo).
This didn't work. Then they had me power off my phone. Wait 10 seconds, power it back on and while it's powering on, press and hold the volume down key until you see the home screen. This puts the phone in SAFE mode. It says SAFE MODE in the bottom left of the screen.
Sure enough, while in SAFE mode the icons at the top worked. So they said an app seems to be interfering with this feature...
BUT I found something out while doing this...
IF I'M ON A PHONE CALL, THE ICONS AT THE TOP OF SCREEN OFF MEMO WORK FINE BUT THERE IS NO PIN ICON. If I'm off the phone, the icons at the top don't work and there IS A PIN ICON. ????? So what's that about? If an app is causing screen off memo not to work correctly, why does it work when I'm on the phone?
Then I pointed out that whenever I restart my phone I get a window that pops up saying Touchwiz crashed do I want to restart it. Definitely have some bugs....
Last, the tech said I can go into my local Best Buy where they can reflash my phone to see if this gets it working again.

Hmm. Do you use AOD? Cause the PiN icon only appears if you use AOD right? Maybe toggle AOD off and see if it's the same issue.
Will, taking the phone to get flashed @ BB reset your phone? If so, I would just try a Factory Reset beforehand...and see if that resolves anything.

Good point, I turned off AOD and sure enough no PIN icon. But the other icons still don't work on my phone. I then turned on AOD and the PIN icon is there. Other icons still don't work.
So you just figured out why some people don't see the PIN icon. They must have AOD turned off. BUT why would the PIN icon disappear while I'm on a phone call and I have AOD turned on? Maybe that's just my phone?
Last, Samsung tech said reflashing won't delete any info on my phone so I'll confirm this with them before I do.

Cerberus App Interferes With Screen Off Memo!
The problem that was causing my screen off memo not to work correctly is the Cerberus app. Samsung in BestBuy fixed it!
After uninstalling a couple other apps that I thought it was I still had the issue but once I uninstalled this app which is an app that I like but I'll email the developer to let them know to see if they can fix why it's interfering with the screen off memo.
So I took my phone in to BestBuy and went to the Samsung kiosk and the guy fixed it in about 2 minutes. First he said he's concerned it's an app that is causing my issue with the screen off memo and then he told me which three of the apps he was concerned about and sure enough he was right. So he also optimized my battery and RAM by clearing the cache in the ram. At first we thought that is what did it but then the problem came back and I ended up uninstalling the three apps he thought it was and sure enough it was the Cerberus app.
Here's the reply email I just received from the Cerberus app dev...
"Hi Nick,
Sorry but the only way to implement the block status bar feature is to block touches on the top part of the screen when the device is locked. Unfortunately there is no way for Cerberus to realize that other apps are opened over the lock screen, such as the camera or Screen Off Memo."
One more thing, you can not pin memos if you use the edge clock
Hey guys, i found that there is a way to use the of screen memo with Cerberus status bar block. Basically the overlay that blocks that area does block most of the icons so they are unresponsive, BUT if you tap the very bottom of the icons you will find a small area that isn't blocked by the overlay. Just tap repeatedly in the lower area of the icons, it will definitely work. Once you know where to tap you won't have to tap repeatedly and you can keep that vital part of Cerberus security.?
Screen off memo pin option will on my written when to out have your Always in display turned on. If always on display is off, the option will not be available

Swipe to answer/clear/dismiss

So, I guess it's not necessary. All I do is tap and it works even tho I'm prompted to swipe. Is there a setting I'm missing?
Work either way. The wonderful part of most OSes (outside of Apple OSes) is that there are several ways of doing things. Just depends on which way works best for you.

Yeah that's cool...but in the older phones, a swipe was needed...which I prefer...so I don't accidentally dismiss an alarm or pickup a call. So, I'm pretty sure I messed with a setting, but just can't find it again.

Yup, but pretty sure I messed with a setting...don't want to tap to dismiss or pickup calls. Too many accidental touches could happen.
Wow, XDA lagging today. Anyway, found the setting. Accessibility - Single Tap Mode.

Are you using the "Always On Display"? That can help accidental calling and such.
Make discussion of your choice is before touching. Then you can swipe one way or another depending if you want to answer or not. If you touch not knowing what you going to do it will answer call (since this is the default action).
Pressing the power button while phone is ringing silences the ring sounds. While still allowing the phone still silently ring.
Settings > Lock and Security > App Shortcuts > turn off both left and right shortcuts. This will take them off from your Lock Screen. This should also help from accidental actions while not using the Note 8.
Settings > Lock and Security > Notifications > turn on "Notification icon only". This will help too. Since gets rid of lots of clutter on the Lock Screen while you get notifications on Lock Screen. The only thing is that when you get a call it will still be the same notification. But the rest of the notifications will be an icon that you can touch to get details of the notifications or prompt you to login to your device for further information.
