Maybe ure using an olther recovery version. i remember i had a restore always go wrong cause something was a bit off in md5 checksum or something was keeping it from restoring anyway, as soon as i updated thru rom manager (or you can get philz recovery) i discovered recovery was theN capable of ignoring error and complete restore.

Yes, i do think that is the whole point.
I recommend doing a alternative backup aswell, such as titanium or helium. And when restoring to your backed up rom, do a factory reset + wipe system.
Good luck!
You really need to read the guides/tutorials stickied in the General section based on that question.

There are many ways to have nandroid backup. One can by done by cwm recovery. It takes the entire backup including apps, settings, data, etc. on SD card. In short, you can later restore each and everything from that backup.

Nandroid - TWRP/CWM How to install?

Hi everyone,
Think I have confused myself from reading to much.
I have done the rooting now looking at doing Nandroid backup before going any further, which requires TWRP or CWM from what I have gathered I need to flash install with ODIN due to being a Samsung.
Will flashing TWRP or CWM erase my data? Looking at change the partition which requires flashing and states to do a backup as everything will be erased, so no sure if it will
Thanks for any help.

Installing a custom TWRP/CWM recovery doesn't wipe any data. However, to be on a safer side, you should take a backup.
