Question Temperature/battery life for long video recording? - Google Pixel 6

I will be buying the Pixel 6 (base model, not the Pro) this month, but I have an important question.
I record videos for youtube on my phone. My previous phone was a Sony Xperia XA2, and while it was great for the price, the phone would overheat after 5 minutes of 4K recording, or 15 minutes of 1080p recording, and its battery would fall down to 5%-10% after 30 minutes.
My question is: can I use the Pixel 6 for long recordings (45min-1h) while plugged in, without worrying about the battery dying on me while recording? I don't mind if the phone gets a bit hot, it just needs to withstand longer video recording without dying so I can save the video file & transfer it to Premiere over on my PC.

My battery test is underway-Complete! 9+ hours video!

I decided to run my own battery test this morning. I created a 720p video copy from my Cars blu-ray. Copied to my Evo LTE, and started playing it on MX video player. It will play the movie over and over until I stop it. I'm trying to simulate watching video on a long flight, so I put it into airplane mode. Brightness is set to auto.
So far, the video has been playing 3 hours and 25 minutes. My battery is showing 66% remaining. So far so good. If the battery percentage is accurate, I should get 9+ hours out of this, possibly 10. I'll keep it running and see how long it goes.

Awesome! Can't wait for your results.

It's been playing for 6 hours now and the battery has 40% left. The phones seems to use about 10% per hour. Let's see if it will get up to 10 hours.
So far, I'm very impressed. My old Evo didn't last long at all playing videos during my plane flights.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, the 720p video looks amazing!!!!
Mark
Ok, so I stopped the video when my phone hit 10% battery life. The phone continued to use approximately 10% of the battery life per hour. So the final play time was 9 hours and 8 minutes. It would be very close to 10 hours if I kept going. Excellent battery life if you ask me!
(the screen shot was taken after plugging the phone in to start charging her back up. that's why you see 11% and the charging icon)

Not to shabby. It can only get better with some custom ROMs & Kernels, to maximize battery life.

Really? He gets ten hours out of a mobile phone playing 720p video and all you got is "Not too shabby"? When my Galaxy Tab was new I did a test with a video at native resolution in airplane mode and got like 5 hours of video. Considering the size of both batteries, I'd say ten hours is fricken bloody phenomenal.
As a different comparison of usage, I played about 3.5 hours of video over wi-fi on my LTE on Friday. The first half hour was through the flash player, and the latter 3 hours via the twitch.tv app. I did also have it off the charger for like 9 hours entirely and made a short phone call too. Not only is the battery on the LTE amazing, the frugalness of the hardware in using it is also.

lol. +1. This is so true and funny
Here are the video details if anyone is curious. I'm not sure if things like bit rate affect battery life.
just for comparison.
i did a similar test with my OG Evo, 4 hours it would play movies then it shut off at 0%
OP, your results are impressive. Can you post more information? I'd like to know about the audio stream. And also at what speaker volume were you playing the movie?

[Q] What do you think of SXP Z2 ?

Hi
So I recently got rid of my SXP neo L which was good at its own time and era but now I want to buy Xperia Z2
so please help me out with my problem here my priorities are :
1. best performance for gaming
2. best sound + screen quality for watching movies
3. best camera for scanning documents + taking pictures
4. ideal development state
5. best battery lifetime
but before all of these I want the longest and best lifetime a device can offer cause im gonna have this phone for about 2 years till i change it again.
so based on my priorities and the fact that i will most definitely root and use custom kernel/roms and tweaks can this device offer me the best lifetime and least issues !?
Does it heat up really bad when playing games and recording with camera with the new updates and etc ?
How is the camera quality ?
How is the sound and audio quality ?
Are there issues that I must be concerned with before buying ?
@Zspitter
1. Yes
2. screen is perfect but sound is a little bit on the quiet side(but there is a mod for that)
3. It has a great camera
4. there aren't many stock-based custom roms but there will be more in the future
5. battery beats every crapsung device
The heating problem does persist. I bought my device second-hand from someone who used it from its release and i see no battery degradation(at least I can't feel one). I think Sony are more competent to say what is the normal temp for the device. Now, in the summer, my cpu is at 65 c at full load or 4k video. I use undervolting to prevent 4k from stopping. In my case it records about 15 minutes of 4k video in 26c ambient temperature.

My experience with Sony Xperia M4 AQUA so far...

-overheating issues(you can literally cook eggs on the back of this phone)
-low gaming performance, games stutter a lot, some even run with less than 20FPS(just look at this - twice cheaper phone outperforming m4)
-low available usable storage(under 2GB)
-takes forever to charge(5 hours+ via USB)
-takes forever for the camera to focus
-no way to root it
-no way to unlock the bootloader(apparently now you can)
-overall feels very laggy, unresponsive and slow
+waterproof
+decent camera
If i have to make a conclusion i'd say its the most disappointing phone i ever bought and just suggest to people to avoid it.

Overheating issues? I get a max of 60 degree Celsius, not enough to cook
Gaming and performance issues - Yea.. Sony screwed up with
.99 update
Storage space - I got 3GB free lol. But yea, I feel you.
I can charge faster than 5hrs!
Camera focus is okayish, it outperformed my friend's Mi3 so I'm proud.
Root - Almost there I think
Bootloader - It's unlockable already.
The phone isn't that too bad, just the firmware that screwed the performance. Downgrade the phone and you should get a better experience.
I mostly agree with AndyPhoenix9879
Mine doens't seem to overheat that much even after hours of 3g web browsing ( i dont play games)
Performance is a issue with 2.99 thats why i flashed back 1.100
storage is a problem but after unistalling all bloatware and disabling anything else (that i dont need) i got 2.97GB free
Charging with a 1200mAh wall charger takes no more than 2 hours, if you charge only with computer usb 5 hours is ok, pc usb gives up to 500mah so a 2400mah battery needs 2400/500 almost 5 hours
camera is just ok
root, hope it comes soon and bootloader as AndyPhoenix9879 mentioned is unlocked already.
Overheating is the biggest problem. Using camera make the phone hotter, capture picture is so slow. I'm on plan to buy a second phone while sony M4 let me down day by day.
The problem is not root. Camera with 54-100Mb/s is fast,I push button and no lag. Very good performance with firm.112 35400 in antutu. I play emulators ppsspp,reicast,mupen64 and my phone no is hot. Only when charge by USB and I do hotspot wifi and ftp server and play at same time because no power in USB to charge.
Is there anyway to get otg?
Like by using a powered Otg cable.
Xperia L got otg in a similar method.
.112 is the spanish generic firmware of m4 aqua.are you absolutely sure it doesn't overheat?
Yes, I'm sure. If you want I can do any test. Only hot when charge by usb for many hours. My phone is UK without company, with 112.
Im using newest firmware 2.99 and im not seen lags and times where phone got slow..
Overheating.. Max temp. 80*C, okay..
But bad game performance? No no no, WoTB max settings 30-50 fps, MC5 normally playable, GTA3 Normally playable.. Etc.

The E4g have much lower resolution so it is absolutely not comparable performance.

25% less to be exact(1500 pixels versus 2000) and costs 50% less(130 euros versus 270) , why can't it be compared?
BTW: My phone seems to get around 29k on antutu on 64bit(just after factory reset), no idea how you are getting 35k.
Downgrade to spanish firm 112 from xperiafirm with flashtool. 35400 in antutu, you will have mass storage option again amera faster and no lag. Y play ppsspp at full speed with tekken soul calibour, shenmue in reicast...
I got this phone to replace my broken s4 for a period of time. I think most of my issues with it can be resolved once root is achieved and an optimized stock OS rom is made.

Well 540x960= 500 000 pixels (approximately) for E4G. For m4 aqua we have 1280x720 which is 921 000 pixels. Almost twice more pixels for M4 Aqua to process. About the antutu result - results around 35000 were achievable with first firmware (.112). With current one more than 30000 is really difficult.
They have two totally different prices. The Snapdragon 615 is an oven, and the only thing they should REALLY improve is the focus speed and video quality.
Hubby brought a couple of these home last night to replace our seriously outdated phones (his was a blackberry that he ruined dropping it into a river, mine is a trusty old Optimus LG One that is still ticking but showing it's age). What I have seen so far
1 - came with 16gb and had 9 free so not too bad there, can upgrade with a card to an extra 128...should do me for a bit
2 - yes it gets quite warm during constant use but not unbearable, cools quickly
3- my wireless router is dieing (sigh..I loved my old DLink DR615!!!)
4 - holy freaking updates! holy bunch of crap bloatware!
5 - no pre-installed games? With all that bloatware you think they would at least have solitaire or something to kill time while updating everything
6 - camera...meh it's a phone, not a high end picture taking device but does fine to capture those spur of the moment happenings, haven't tested video yet
7 - like the display - netflix, crackle, etc all play clearly, very watchable
8. love lollipop plus the Sony overlay - they have incorporated some of the key features I used to have to download seperate apps for like silencing the whole phone with one click, move to sd, flashlight, etc... little things but it makes the overall experience nice.
9 - sound quality is decent for a midrange phone, call quality is great
10 - it's soo much bigger than any other phone I have had! First phone I had that didn't fit in my jean jacket pocket! that could cause some issues as I am very forgetful LOL
In all, no major complaints... once I get my internet connection woes sorted with the router I'll be able to download my larger games and see how it does there. For now I got Frozen Bubble installed so that will tide me over
I quite like the phone, but I'm getting a pretty strange bug - sometimes when I record a video, it comes out as black plus sound. Even in the pc I can't see anything but I can hear the sound. When I reboot, it's back to normal. It happens when I really want to record a video and then I realize that I haven't got anything. Is there anybody with the same problem?

Yeah as it might be the only solution, I can't just always do a test video and then reboot if it is black. The last time I wanted to record my squash match and then after 40min of recording it came out black. Hope they'll fix it with 6.0

ZTE Axon 7 choppy video recording and playback below 30% Battery

So my Axon 7 records and plays videos without any problems above 30% but when it drops below that, it starts getting noticeably choppy and I just want to know why. I've set it to performance mode so the phone should not worry about battery life right? Then why isn't the camera being given enough priority so that it can run smoothly? Hope you guys can help me.

Overheating?

My phone is overheating when taking 4K for any reasonable length of time
4K video was the primary reason I bought the phone, and it appears it can't shoot 4K for any reasonable length of time. 21 mins is the longest recording time in 4K that I have got, but that was from a cold start.
On a warm day, in regular stop/start use, heat quickly built up, even with no case, and my typical 4k recording time limit was 5 mins.
The camera app just shuts down saying it is too hot. The case of the phone gets extremely hot in one of the corners
This youtuber has mentions the same problem (1 min 5 secs)

I had rhis issue and I wasn't really recording other than had the app open for about 20 mins, did a few short 2 to 3 mins recordings within that time span and received the message.
clksed the app waited a minute and reopened. Did have the message come back but then ahain it was only ooened for a out another 10 mins with another 2 min recording.
