Just send a text to Google and ask for your free stuff.
Use code: "free stuff now"

Pixel phones have free Google Photos storage. There's no need for a custom ROM or any mod.

No they don't not any more. This is not the case for Pixel 6 and 6 pro.
Google Pixel owners will still get these Google Photos storage perks going forward
Google has long offered perks to Pixel phone owners on Google Photos, some of which still apply under the company's new storage terms.

On my oneplus 7 with Pixel experiance have free space i thinking sometimes copy photos to op and from oneplus send to google photos

Just subscribe to Google Drive. At £1.50 for 100GB a month it's hardly expensive.
In fact you can earn that much a month using Google Rewards then use the credit to pay for it

So... pay gooble so that you can feed them your private data? Wouldn't it be better to store your data on your own equipment?

I have 2 google accounts on my devices, when the 1st account got full, I just swapped my 2nd accound and voilá. =D

Any phones up to Pixel 5 still get unlimited Storage Saver in Google Photo, you can simply grab an old Pixel, setup a 2-way sync with FolderSync/SyncThings between the 6's DCIM folder and voila, free photo storage.
I am not sure about you, if there is such hack, I think Google can simply terminate your account and you lose everything, does this worth it to you?

I have an OG pixel and this is what I do. I use Resilio Sync. Pretty easy to set up. I used to leave the OG Pixel plugged in with a max charge set at 50%. Not taking many photos lately so just turn it on to sync occasionally.

Google just sweetened the deal today.
They have included links to free cloud services. Dropbox, Box, Amazon cloud are just a few.

Pixel Experience, Evo X can offer unlimited back up (no original quality though).
But depends on the ROM & the device & if the dev is going to bake that into the ROM or not.
Root method barely works anymore if you update apps to often :<

With 128 gb of storage, I don't necessarily need to back up to Google photos anymore. After they changed terms last, I stopped, but, the previous backups don't count against my 15 gb storage on Drive. Actually I have 17 gb, due to a promotion way back when, I took the security settings tour. So, now a days, I'm a Amazon prime member, which gives me unlimited photos storage, which is nice, that my wife's Amazon tablet gets the copies automatically when ever I fire up the hotspot to download movies to it. Plus, I can clear storage on my old devices if I really wanted to, and transfer copies there too. For now, I'm using a few of Simple Mobile apps, one calander, and now their gallery app. Amazon photos does the automatic uploads when I'm plugged in. My biggest storage issue, is clearing out most of the 8 gb of Gmail I have neglected. Google Photos, Gmail, and Drive are all on that 17 gb free storage limit.

I was using google photos not to backup pictures from my phone (i do that on my pc) but to upload pictures taken with my camera from different trips and create albums which i share with my friends and colleagues. Now i found the perfect free alternative to google photos - yandex disk. Currently they offer unlimited free storage for photos with original quality. I don't know for how long this will continue but it works great for now.

Is there any custom rom for the P6 that has the unlimited gphotos hack?

I think there is no custom ROM with hack for the " unlimited gphotos hack".. hacking is illegal and there is no custom ROM with that sort of hacks.
For 1.99 euro you have 100 gb of storage.

Umm, I think you're wrong. Not about the lack of custom ROMs with an "unlimited Google Photos" hack, but hacking itself.
It's legal to modify Android. It's a little less cut and dry whether it's legal to modify Google apps, such as the BSG Camera app mods found on XDA, but the issue of legality is moot anyway.
Both Google Camera and Photos can detect which device they are installed on and will adjust their feature sets accordingly. The only way I know of to enable unlimited storage is to change the device fingerprint to a Pixel 1 / XL, and I'm not even sure THAT will work. If you were to succeed the apps would think you had a Pixel 1 / XL and would configure themselves appropriately. That would mean no Magic Eraser, no astrophotography mode, and none of the other features that Google has put into its phones over the last several years.
Trading all the added features available for the Pixel 6 camera and the Photos app simply to gain the ability to store unlimited numbers of photos is simply not worth the hassle. As you point out, Google 1's offer of 1.99/month for 100GB of storage is totally reasonable if people are that concerned. Or they can take the time and manually do it themselves using their chosen cloud storage solution.

Box giving free upgrade to 50 GB

Login to the box app from an android device any you'll automatically get upgraded to 50 GB of free storage!
This has been available for the iDevices as well.
One caveat to keep in mind, the app to do automatic syncing between desktop and Box, Box Sync, is only available to Box Business and Enterprise customers. Is not available for free accounts, even the 50G ones
Means you either have to use the web interface to access files on Box, or find a third party app that will do the desktop integration. I have used an app called Transmit on the mac to sync to do that.
I prefer dropbox I have to admit and have a paid account there. Having an extra 50GB is a nice place for dumping stuff I don't need cluttering up other places tho
Andym
don't forget you can't upload files bigger than 200mb I believe it's pretty much 50 useless gb. can only stream music so I guess if you use it for that. or to waste their bandwidth to host your <200mb files. I think you get 10gb a month
Sent from my sensation 4G
I got the account just because, hey, 50gb storage. Gonna backup my music collection there, just so I don't lose it again (lost/corrupted huge amounts of music in recent months). Easier than carrying around an extra hdd.
The upload limit is 100mbs not 200mbs which just isnt high enough plus the no desktop synching app makes this useless for me so yeah I will be sticking with dropbox even tho I only have 2gbs but the 2gb is all I really need since I just use it for apps for my nook tablet for sideloading apps that do not appear in the market.
do you mean dropbox? i still have 2G after login on nt?
Different program.

Are you using Google Photos backup service?

So the new google photos is up and it offers an amazing unlimited storage space for "High quality" photos, but not "Original size" photos. With Google photos claims to be able to store high quality photos which is of maximum 16 megapixels, this should means that the photos captured using S6 will be stored at its original resolution and size. However, this is not the case as I noticed that the photos backed up on Google photos are somehow compressed to half of its original size. The same goes to photos captured using the front camera. So, this probably means that the photos stored in Google photos somehow lose its original clearness right (as least not as crispy as it should looks)? If that's so there's no point using Google photos instead of Onedrive which offers 100GB free for two years IMO. I've checked the photos stored in Onedrive and its 100% original size. What do you guys think?
I just pay $2 usd a month for 100GB from Google Drive and store everything there.

I am using it but facing problems. If photos make me a new video I cannot export it. The app just crashes 100% of the time. Don't have this problem with my other devices.
Anybody else have this issue?
E. Export or share
I am using one drive and I love it. With office 365 subscription I now have 1tb of storage. All that for $30 /year thanks to many eBay sellers.
From the last update, yes, I use it, previous to this update I hate it since the app did things that I did ask!!, now it is not embedded with Google+ and the interface is much better.
I'm wanting to use it for the free storage but no matter how many times I set the backup quality to "high" it will revert back to "original" and consume space.
Anyone have any ideas?
I am also using One Drive but was hoping to use Google Photos because of the Google+ integration.

Is there any way to change upload quality as high quality storage instead of unlimited storage until 21 in most of the custom roms ...

High quality uploads are free and unlimited. They don't count against your GDrive space.
Some customs ROMs used to have a feature which faked your device ID as a Pixel phone and gave you free uploads in original size but that ended quite a while ago.

It doesn't depend on the ROM you are using.
Open Google Photos - Settings - Back up & sync - Upload size
and set it to High quality (free unlimited storage)

I had the same issue on Liquid Remix. I removed the system app "Pixel Setup" using SD Maid, and then reinstalled Google Photos. I still got the initial screen about free original quality till 2021, but after that I got the option to change to high quality resolution. Hope this helps.

Help accessing external storage

Hello all i have the tab s6 that i got primarily for photo editing using lightroom. Unfortunately it seems i cant access any form of external storage through lightroom in order to view pictures and then import them into lightroom to edit them. It seems that I first have to transfer the pictures into the internal storage of the tab, in my case 256gb, and only then i can see the pictures in lightroom prior to importing them. By doing this i would essentially end up with duplicate photos and then reducing the storage even further.
The only way i can access the external storage is via the files manager app installed. Is there any work around this? In ios i can see the pictures from the external storage through lightroom prior to import.
What Android version? Scoped storage is fully active in Android 11/12 and it's a mess.
Unless the app has special permissions like that file app, scoped storage will puke on them and limit their access. You may be able to do a adb edit work around, not sure as I refuse to deal with these OS versions.
Maybe try using a OTG flashstick as a work around.
Running Android 11 and no new update available. And lightroom app permission under files and media it says “allow access to media only” dont see other options
Any app that allows full access to external drives where i can see the full size picture thats stored?

Lightroom developers need to modify it for it to work most likely. Not a trivial task.
Do some searches to see if you can modify this behavior with adb edits. Yeah, now even bloody iPhones are easier to use than Androids, thanks for nothing Gookill...
I would just download the whole file copy onto the PC. You need to back it up anyway...
Last thing i want is too root the tab and gave things go wrong. Havent rooted an Android device in years and always more of a hassle than what improvements where promised

I prefer using stock. Adb editing is just modifying the user partition, a factory reset will undo the changes if you goof up.
If it came loaded with 11 you can't flash it back to 10 because of the boot loader version.
Try some Google searches ie something like "scoped storage workaround adb". Add xda to it to find threads about it here. Maybe Package Disabler could help but I doubt it as scoped store is a core feature.
There's a lot of pissed off Android users right about now... you're not alone.
Share your wuv and give Google some feedback.
I have to N10+'s, one is running on Pie, the newest on Q. Both behave almost identically, however Samsung added dozens of small system apks to do that... Samsung went to a lot of trouble to do that.
You confirmed my fear Samsung couldn't or wouldn't be able to do the same with the models running on R and above.
The culprit is Google not Samsung.
It's the game that moves as you play it.
Something so simple that they are alienating photographers and are forcing them into ios, maybe I should have gotten an ipad pro

There are work arounds but you shouldn't need to do this. At this point Android is more iPhone than Android... a tard wannabe iPhone that is.
Return if you still can.
If you get a Samsung running on P or Q it will function normally and still have sufficient security.
Be wary of buying devices as they may list P or Q as the loaded OS when in fact they've been updated or factory loaded (depending on manufacturered date) with R.
Tried to look into the scoped storage but seems to be too much of a hassle and not really working possibly depending on what you need. There doesnt seem to be a definitive answer to my particular issue in regards to having lightroom (adobe) have access to external storage. I might just have to bite the bullet and get a 1tb microsd card although thats a huge expense.
On another note, Adobe should make it a requirement to have access to external storage, its possible in IOS and windows and tell google to allow it.
Test a small sd card first to make sure it works as you want with scoped storage.
Get a V30 rated card, Sandisk Extreme works well.
Take a look at this thread.

Thanks but not really what i am looking for. Will test out and old microsd card i have from an old android phone and see how that goes
So some positive news to report. Tried an old microsd card. As expected it automatically displays the photos in the photo app just like the built in storage. So tried to copy a picture that i had backed up in the external ssd, did this via the file manager app. Then the moment of truth, opened up Lightroom and i have access to the additional microsd card, the picture that i copied from the ssd along with all the other old photos showed up in lightroom. So, as much of an inconvenience this is, it seems that for my needs and workflow, i would need the extra microsd card.
So here would be my work flow after taking pictures
1-Backup all the pictures taken on a certain date into the Samsung T5 SSD.
2-Also copy all of the pictures into the extra microsd card (1tb)
3-Go through all the pictures on the microsd card using lightroom to decide which ones to edit and then import them into lightroom.
4-Do all my edits then save those edits into the built in storage, upload to Facebook, instagram, etc. then save those final edits into the Samsung T5 SSD.
5-Format the 1tb microsd and repeat the whole process when needed.
Extra steps but it seems this is the only way. Thanks Google
EDIT: after thinking about it I think a 512gb would be more than enough for my expected workdlow and would be a significant savings vs the 1tb
Yay This will be a better setup than you had.
I always build dual drive PCs; the OS, apps, DCIM folder and the temporary download folder go on internal memory.
All critical data goes on the data drive. This is then backed up redundantly to at least 2 hdds that are physically and electronically isolated from each other and the PC.
Do Not use DCIM in the name of photo folder on the SD card; there can only be one folder with that name.
I'm having the same problem with this scoop storage issue that Google has handed us My 1tb card is full of music that I can't access it worked fine on my Note 8 but it doesn't work hardly at all on my new Note 10 I can't even get a playlist to function right people have talked about editing Android manifest in Android studio Man that's so far above my ability but I wouldn't just format my card I know I bought the best one I could buy and I still have the problem and I've had my card for some time I hope someone comes up with a solution

Scoped storage is a mess. Back up the 1tb card's data at least twice on 2 different hdds, more backup is always better.
Or use a different SD card in the device.
With the test SD card format the card with the device (all data will be lost, etc, etc), then doing the data transfer through the phone load the data. See if that works.
Regardless it's best practice to leave the SD card in one device and not "share" it with other devices. Having other devices write to it can lead to card corruption.
Don't know if this will help or not. I'm still running on Android 9 and 10. Gookill sucks elephant balls bad now... no way I'll upgrade my N10+'s to 11 or 12, they're running too good as is.
Thank you for getting back with me I have a real hard time keep you track of stuff nowadays but I don't need the aggravation of this scoop storage stuff as it is I have to pay someone to root my phones anymore because I just can't do it.
I used to be fairly good at it but not anymore so dr.ketan is promising updates in April and unless the issue is addressed by him I'm going to go ahead and downgrade my Note 10 Plus to Android 9 or 10 wherever that point is I can avoid all this crap
I think I read on one of the posts that they didn't really see any speed difference between 9 and 12
I think 9 was what was on my phone when I bought it in December.
And it was my phone guy that brought it up to 12 and put on dr.ketan's ROM. But I am so used to backing up stuff to SD card that it's driving me nuts. And isn't that the idea of TWRP anyway to be able to back up to your SD card and restore if you screw things up? Anyway thank you again for getting back with me and if you hear of any news about a fix or patch that someone like me could put on to fix it other than having to have the skills of a developer let me know I appreciate it I'd even be willing to be a beta tester.
Take care Rick

Question Realme gt and gt me media storage app talking too much space

One big issue nobody talks about or is completely unaware about is that everytime you download or store any media like movies, not only does the original space of the movie gets occupied, the media storage app in the phone magically increases the exact same amount of storage usage. You could verify it yourself by going into storage and select the view system apps option. So for example if you download a 2 gb movie, instead of going from 62-60gb storage space, it goes from 62-58gb storage space. This is very big issue which is also faced by many OnePlus devices. You cannot force stop the media storage app or delete any data or cache in it. The only temporary solutions which worked for some is deleting the recycle bin data, clearing unwanted data using files app and maybe resetting your device but the fact that this issue exists is a huge problem and is still unresolved for many users. I hope someone might be able to solve this issue or could at least help make realme aware about this issue.
Google has already solved it with Pixel 5. But Chinese manufacturers seem, kind of, lost in translation
Jokes apart, I have this same problem with OP 9RT and am really tired of deleting my videos, photos again and again..... Android 12 didn't solve it and after Oxygen OS 12 I have little hope that Android 13 will be any better.

I think I might have been wrong, after further inspection the Google files app showed the proper storage. I think it may be a problem of the storage app showing wrong storage for some reason instead of actually losing storage. I don't remember correctly if the issue was on the storage options in setting or Google files itself.

Are you sure?
Asking as I also used many Storage apps, like SD Maid etc. and some of them actually did not show the space taken by Media Storage app! As per them the storage was fine and free there.....
But then I found out that when the Media Storage size went over 50-52Gb, I couldn't install a huge game, like Genshin in my phone any more as Play Store showed the message that I have to uninstall some apps to make space!!!
So apparently, at least in my 9RT, the Play Store/System is considering the space shown in Media Storage as real!
This is the present situation in my phone, after many resets ....
Out of this 40Gb apps, the Media Storage is taking 30Gb....
Which, by now, I'm sure is consisting of that 25Gb videos and other app data
All I can hope for now is by some miracle, OP fix it or that Google brings the Pixel 7 to India...... as at least they listen to the Bug reports and do solve them even if it takes some time. OP 9 Pro has this problem since launch, and by now, in almost 1 year One Plus couldn't solve it....so I really have very little hope from them now.

How much storage do you have left? Cause I just looked into and remembered that you don't have to worry too much about the media storage app taking your space cause I don't think it actually affects your space even though it shows in your settings.
My phone has a total internal space of 256gb(my phone doesn't have a sd slot also) and as you can see, I've only used 204gb of my space but adding all the storage shown below(especially the video and app storage) I've almost used 300gb space which is almost impossible.
Another example is my Google files app which literally shows I've used 297gb even though my phone literally has a 256gb internal storage. So I think it's safe to assume that the media storage app doesn't actually cause much issue and you don't have to worry about it too much.
Interesting!
My Google Files is showing I have 66GB free (out of 128GB). But Downloads(4.1)+Videos (25) + Docs (4.7) + Apps (40) is totaling to 73.8GB. That comes to a total of 74+66 = 140GB!!!!
Now, taking that (as per Files) I have 66GB free, I have used up 62GB already. That may be as - Videos(25)+Downloads(4.1)+Docs (4.7)+ about 28GB of System, may be? I don't have any idea how much space Android 11/12 takes now a days....
Tomorrow I will fill my phone with some more videos to take the Media Storage app size to around 60GB at least (need some 35GB of movie files, which fortunately I have This should make the device think that I have used up all of my 128GB (incl. system) space. And then I will again try to install Genshin/WOT Blitz/Grid , any one game of about 3-4-5GB and see what the system says......
As it's past 12:30 at night in my end, I'm switching off for today now....Will report tomorrow about the storage experiment! Take care, bye!

Hi!!!
Became so busy I couldn't come to this thread.....
As per my last post, I filled up my phone towards up to 60GB and yup, my total storage went well over 128GB as per Files app And yeah, Play Store didn't let me install a small game of about 10MB as it showed the message of no space available.
Lost the screenshots, as I hard reset the phone again on the advice of some OnePlus customer care service provider. No result, it's still the same......

Well, lol, looks like that....
The short time I had with my Phone being over 128GB in size, it performed normal tasks well, no lag. But, can we record Videos/photos in that situation? As I just hard reset my phone, it will take some time to get filled up again. So I suppose, this time you'll have to test if we can record videos when our phones get well over their storage limits , provided you have the time off course
Did you by chance try using a third party app store or apk files for installing apps when the storage was "overfull"?
