I'd be curious to know too, but I'm also curious as to why you'd like to do so.

At the risk of sounding old... I like to listen to audio books while falling asleep. With one speaker just below my ear, that's plenty of volume. But I feel the other speaker blaring away is potentially bugging the wife.

No, that makes sense.
If you put the phone on the pillow then maybe you can put the pone screen-side down so the ear piece goes into the pillow and then put the bottom speaker by your ear.
But it still would be a neat trick if you could turn off a speaker.

I wonder if a 3rd party equalizer app with a Left-Right balance control would work?

if you search audio balance in the launcher's search and click that then you can drag the balance without any 3rd party apps

Thanks. I just tried this (using Tunein Radio app), but it didn't seem to change anything. Is it only compatible with specific apps?

Is there any way to make the incall voice louder through headphone as I notice a significant reduction in the volume in call compared to music go example.

Just for clarification, do you mean "louder" and "compared" ?
Either way I'm not sure, but replacing those makes the question make more sense to me
And if the above assumption is correct, I take it you have altered the volumes individually in settings and are still not happy (voice. media etc) ?
You got me right, I was using swype and I didn't review it.
I have checked the sound settings and it is on maximum, still incall quality is very bad.
I used swype to write this post though.

quality or volume?
I have experienced quality issues, but I put it down to network signal.
Hi
I have got exactly the same issue ; no issue to call using the handset (i do not know how to describe it in english) but as soon as I swith to headset, the volume is very low and I can not hear the caller while hearing music, app sounds,... no problem

OK, when in a call, and you push up-volume, does this alter the in-call-headset-volume?
Not tried it, just guessing
No, it says the volume is at maximum

Maybe try with NON-Microphone headset then and see if it's any different. I take it your using stock headphones?
Just a theory but maybe there is a problem with the power flow when it enables the 3rd jack socked band for using the microphone.

[Q] DSP Manager why?

Why does almost every rom include this app? I dont see what is so great about it. To me it is just taking up RAM.
Am I missing something?
You can just remove it if you don't want it. To my knowledge, it is an equalizer for your phones speaker and earpiece. You can change it to how you want..but if you don't want it, just remove it. No need to get all feisty ;p

If used correctly you can dramatically improve sound quality with speaker headsets and bluetooth

Increases functionality and customization of your sound output on your phone's 4 different output methods (earpiece, speaker, BT, and headphone jack I believe as well)
Every time I opened it it would force close, so I removed it.

because there's a serious low volume issue on the 3D
we need everything possible to try to make the sound louder
I like the EQ, it comes in handy with apps like tune in and other apps where a little sound boost is needed.

If you already have an equalizer or other volume increasing app, it will conflict with dsp manager and vice versa. You can only have one. If you don't have anything conflicting with it like that and want to try it, maybe someone can help you get the apk to install manually. It really does make things sound great. Though I liked Equalizer from the market better.

Thanks. I'll have to look around and see what else is on my phone. I already have an apk of it, I just didn't want to install it again and have the same issues.

bad recording sound on CM

Is this normal ? When I record it sounds horrible, specially when its loud. Or is there a way to fix it ? Thx
It only happens with cyanogenmod
Recording sound using what? Camcorder? Another app? If it only happens with that rom, then use another rom.
Thx. Just the answer I wanted.

You really didn't even answer his questions. What apps are you using to record sound? Is it only certain apps or just one app?
When I use the camcorder if there is something kinda loud, it sounds really bad

That's normal because of two things, the codec used by android to record audio, and the very high sensitivity mic the phone has. No phone can make good audio recordings in loud environments.
No buddy
With sense it actually sounds pretty good. But with cm you get a lot distortion.
I have tried different releases of cm and I get the same problem. I guess I'm the only one who has it.

That's what I need for BT music using play music.
You can make headphones louder by using adapt sound. It customizes sound based on your hearing ability.

I listen more on my trucks radio and would like to improve sound level and good base. I notice when I increase base with built in app it causes the sound to decrease a little.

I recommend "neutron". It costs a few bucks but it is the best "music player" I've used. Mainly for the reasons you mention. It comes with built in EQ AND preamp to not only increase volume but also to increase "signal strength" or "gain". It basically has a preamp. It also has settings that adjust the preamp automatically(if 1 song is stronger than the other and the app senses "clipping" it will reduce the gain automatically.)
I have no affiliation with the app it's just the only 1 I've come across that has the EQ and gain features needed to boost the signal.
Note: I've never connected to my car via bluetooth but the features I mention work no matter if I'm using the earphone jack or the phone speaker so they should work when connected via BT as well.
on edit: The "signal" could be decreasing when you increase the bass because the app senses "clipping" or "distortion". So it's not the volume that decreases is the signal strength or "gain" like on an amp. Check the sound settings and see if there is anything that controls "clipping" "signal strength" "dither" "gain" or anything like that.

Sorry about the confusion. These setting are separate settings outside of an EQ. These would be settings in a particular "music player". As I stated finding these settings in a basic music player is rare which is why I recommended "Neutron". Your music player may just "reduce signal strength" when distortion is detected to keep the average listener from blowing speakers by turning the EQ settings up to high(or the tone settings bass/treble).

I have tried the game too. Didn't come across any such issue.
Do you have a ton of apps running in the background, or apps that draw floating windows?
