A word of advice, never try to flash anything for the 4G on the 5G one. You haven't gotten root nor TWRP, and you've voided your warranty and tripped Knox in the process!

btw, is my recovery now screwed? since i did some things wrong with twrp and is it safe to re get root

How do you know his country or region doesn't allow rooting and which root he used ???

Oh my bad, I didn't know rooting depended on country and region, and not on what phone they've got. As for the root method, they weren't trying to root the phone, they were trying to install a recovery mode that wasn't meant for the phone. Were they trying to root their phone, idk. Do I care, no!

Arobase40 said:
I guess you misunderstood the whole thread and you didn't read it carefully ! ^^
OP said he rooted his phone and he was trying to install TWRP even though TWRP fails !
Then you said "A word of advice, never try to flash anything for the 4G on the 5G one. You haven't gotten root nor TWRP, and you've voided your warranty and tripped Knox in the process!"
So that's not the truth depending of your living country or region as in E.U you won't lose your warranty because of rooting or with tripped Knox !!!
That could be the same in others countries or other regions on the planet...
Click to collapse
Then I think you should have asked how do I know if he won't have warranty anymore as not all countries know about Knox, rather than telling me how do I know if his country or region allows for rooting and what root he's used. Let's say he still gets warranty, isn't it true that he has tripped Knox basically for nothing? That's why I cautioned him about not trying things for the 4g onto his 5g phone.
And please, if you can't help or advise the OP, then don't try and "correct" other users trying to do so. All you're doing is going out of subject and misleading the thread. You are knowledgable and we all appreciate it with your rooting guides for the 5g, but let's not make threads go for days without any real solutions.

Arobase40 said:
I don't understand why are you messing with me as OP understood he made a mistake when trying to install things for 4G into his 5G phone ???
I guess it would be a risk but still wanted to test anyway...
He then got solutions from other contributors such as with @bobfrantic on how to solve his problem and got back with his stock recovery and stock firmware !
So why should I have to repeat what have been already done and said ??? ^^ SIC
Then you came later to advice him what he already knew and understood and you told him his warranty is void as if it was a global rule for all around the world and finally he simply asked if "it is safe to re get root". So I answer to him If he rooted his phone once then there is no problem to re root his phone when you didn't supply any answer about this specific request ! That's it !!!
So telling him his warranty is void is totally wrong and misleading when you don't know the context of his country or his region and that's the reason I said it's depend !!! ^^
So there is no reason to quarrel one another about that.
Click to collapse
Look, first of all, I'm not trying to mess with you or anything. All I'm trying to say is to stop asking questions that will help no one in the future! I saw that the OP got the solution from someone else, hence why I didn't repeat it. I just cautioned him again about the fact he shouldn't flash nothing for the 4g onto the 5g because he had already done it once and that he's lost his warranty and knocked knox in the process.
Then you come along, asking questions that no one will benefit from. Any competent technician will know that knox has been knocked and that warranty is voided. Nowhere on Samsung's own website is it officially stated that warranty isn't voided in place XYZ when you alter software and knock knox. This is the de facto statement, you cannot assume that he'll get warranty by assuming that he is somehow somewhere where no one knows about knox and the warranty void counter. I wasn't totally wrong nor misleading, just stating facts. Local laws don't matter, if the repair center says it's your fault and not a manufacturing defect, then you are on your own and you pay for your repairs.
All that said, tell me how knowing this will help the OP or anyone who stumbles upon this thread later on? This is exactly what I'm trying to tell you, you're asking questions when non should have been asked! Say someone from the US sees this thread and believes that they'll still be getting warranty because you typed that I was wrong? Who's going to be misleading then? You could have simply said: "Maybe the OP could still get warranty depending on where he lives, he could get lucky with the repair center". Done, simple. No need to have a go at it with a question!
I am not here to make the place toxic, but you've done this on multiple threads, questioning the reply of others when there was no need to do so. I don't have any problem with asking questions, as long as it is constructive to the issue at hand, but not when it will only turn threads into out of subject mess or results in the belittling of others. I have no problem with you nor is it anything personal. Just do not go around questioning every answer YOU think might be wrong just for the sake of it. Try and correct what you think is wrong in a reply without making it seem like the other person knows nothing, in a polite way. That's all I'm asking, nothing more, nothing less. If you can't do that or gonna argue some more about what I've said, then you're on your own.

Rooting and flashing your device does not void the warranty in EU

matija.suklje.name
Whatever you've said applies for the EU. Even then the experiences of people in the EU differ when it comes to Samsung, as you can read on this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...have-good-news-if-you-are-not-in-usa.3156753/
You say: "I'm just trying to give constructive and simply concise answers."
Here's a concise answer for you since you "will not stop asking the same questions and repeating the same facts especially to stop this stupid urban legend about losing the warranty!!!": "It might be that you will still be covered by your warranty in the EU even after rooting and tripping knox EU Laws give a "statutory warranty" of 2 years."
Done, that's a "simple concise answer".
On that note, godspeed to you.
Sorry to OP @BL4Z3W0LF for blowing up this thread.

[Q] Rooting Galaxy S2

Hey Guys,
I switched from the Iphone to Android, I just got the Galaxy s2 and I want to root it. I have been reading of the different ways to root the phone, based on what I have seen so far the GingerBreak seems to be the easiest way to do it. So I am here in the forum, my first post is requesting a confirmation from you guys, which is the easiest way for an idiot like me to root my galaxy s2 without bricking it ?
Thanks
RedCell X
There is guide here in other post.
Basically you have to flash custom kernel, reboot and flash stock kernel back.
All using Odin.
Be careful - each custom kernel flashing will be visible. There is counter that shows how many custom kernels you flashed.
I stick with stock rom this time and avoid rooting.
This counter can be reset according to this forum. It's your decision.

Do you need root now .

Gingerbreak only worked on the pre-production SGS2 models, it no longer works on the retail versions that are shipping now.
If you need root then use the link provided above, it works like a charm and you can always reflash an official kernel once you have root (and this is probably recommended if you also update your firmware to the lasted version).
The SGS1 usb jigs do work with the SGS2 and have the added bonus of resetting the custom firmware counter which may be handy if you ever need to return your phone under warranty, I got mine off of ebay yesterday and it works a treat.

Dont worry about bricking your phone, even if something goes wrong with the flashing process you should always be able to get back into download mode so you can reflash either by using the keypress method or if that fails the usb jig should wake your phone up.
Then you can either use ODIN or even the Kies Recovery method to get a working ROM installed.

Yeah, while no has (yet) reported that they have had a warranty request rejected because of custom rom usage, its nice to know how to reset the counter to ensure any warranty requests go smoothly.

Ahh, that sucks then, I've never owned an SGS1 before so never looked in the SGS forum, if they have actively rejected modded phones in the past then it makes the usb jigs a very worthwhile investment then!

Some questions about SGS2 GT I9100T

Hello everyone, I am a Android N00B and don't know what I am doing so please help me out answering some questions..
1) My SGS2 is a GT-19100T (New Zealand) being provided by Telecom NZ, will I still be able to ROOT using the same methods for GT-19100?
2) When people say I can not get the warranty from Samsung can I still claim my insurance with my provider that I am paying extra for?
3) How difficult is it to unbrick a SGS2? Is it ALWAYS possible to unbrick it?
4) How easy is it to brick the S2?
Please help a noob out. Thanks in advance.

That depends upon the terms and conditions of the policy . But as you have modified firmware i would guess not .
3) How difficult is it to unbrick a SGS2? Is it ALWAYS possible to unbrick it?
Brick a SGS2 about a 1% chance rising to 100% if not following instructions or wrong firmware .
Recover a bricked SGS2 about 95% chance as most are soft bricked .

The answer to 1) is yes. I have a I9100T also. JJE has given you some very good advice. If you're unsure/scared/not confident about doing anything (rooting, flashing non-stock firmware, etc) to your phone, don't do it until you are confident about the process.
At best you could end up with a soft brick that might take you a few days to workout how to fix (which means no playing with your new toy), and as JJE also mentioned, there's also a chance of hard bricking your phone which increases depending on how well you didn't read/follow the instructions for whatever you were doing with your phone.
This is a good place to start reading, so is this thread. Expect to get fairly short 'use the search function' answers if you ask a question that has been answered on here 2,000,000,000 times already.

Just flash another rom over it via recovery or Odin depending on the rom. Also, make sure you re-flash a T modem once done for better reception.

I already searched this and there were only 3 results. All pretty much said "Upgrade from official GB".
Plugging my phone into Kies produces the error message "Your device does not support software upgrading via kies."
Not sure how to fix this.

Trying to get the device onto ICS to return for warranty as that's what the warranty center suggested to fix my problem.
Help really appreciated, pretty confused
I was able to fix the problem. Here's a small guide.
Flashes bootloader. Dangerous. This is a roll of the dice. You could very well end up with a useless phone. Seriously. Take this into consideration.
Download:
AT&T official UCLE5: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/160521955/8de1076/I777UCLE5_I777ATTLE5_ATT.zip.html
Don't trust me? http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ search i777 and download the newest firmware; you'll have to register.
Odin: http://dl.xda-developers.com/attach...72c055d2/503d172d/5/8/1/9/1/3/Odin3-v1.85.zip
Samsung Kies(If you don't have i777 drivers): http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/
0) Put device into download mode
(Phone off, NOT plugged in, hold vol up + vol down and while holding those two keys plug the USB cable from your computer to your phone.)
1) Unzip the Official UCLE5 file
2_ Open up ODIN, in the white box all the way to the left it should say something like
0:[COM5]

. Your numbers maybe different depending on what port your i777 is situated on.
3) In the bottom right section of the program you'll see buttons that say "Bootloader, PDA, Phone, CSC"
Click PDA, and navigate to your unzipped UCLE5.tar.md5 file.
Click start, let it run.

To shut them up I told them my phone was running ICS because he was asking if i'd upgraded, because that could fix my problem.
I told him the phone was on ICS, so wouldn't it be a little odd if I returned the phone I claimed was on ICS with a GB ROM? I mean I doubt they check this and wouldn't care, but that message I'm getting in Kies is telling me that it must be detectable that my phone was previously modified.
I tried to upgrade to ICS prior to sending it back but Kies is junk. No matter what I did the phone wouldn't connect to it. The one time it did, it wouldn't go for the upgrade. So I sent it back with 2.3.4. I don't have patience to sit hours to get a stupid update to work just for them to wipe it when the get it.
If you flashed to stock without root and have no flash counter, I don't see how they can see you were modified. Unless you indeed flashed the rooted package or have a flash counter.
Removed.

Rooting The Samsung Galaxy S III (NOOB Q&A)

Hi there guys, I know you guys will make fun of me and everything but I felt that XDA is the best place to ask this question.
If I root my Galaxy S III will i void my warranty? Also, if I root my device will i be able to restore my original factory (carrier) firmware and everything as if it wasn't ever touched.
Finally, how easy is it?
Yes it will void your warranty, and again yes you can restore it back to all stock.
Do post your questions in q & a thread next time
《tapatalked from galaxy s3》
Yes, but you can always delete flash counter with triangleaway app and then flash original firmware from www.samfirmware.com . So you will have phone like out of a box and with warranty.

I do not want to start a new thread for this though it goes bit offtopic. I was reading on day 1 of my purchase and decided to actually use the device and be sure does it have immediate issues as is so I decided to not do anything to it. Now I am bit more interested as I mostly have not had any problems that I could list as immediate hardware problems. I read first that there is way to reset one counter but not other, and how I understood it was that there is counter for ROM flashes and one for Kernel flashes, and one for ROM flashes. How I read it was that the Kernel counter can't be reset as of yet but ROM flash counter can be reset.
There is a method to root that does not include flashing a insecure kernel what to me feels like something that should not rise that permanent counter, right?
Also is it more recommended to try something like Android Revolution HD 6.0 or Cynogenmod rather than just plain root?

There is a reason why rooting invalidates your warranty: it's very easy to mess with stuff you shouldn't. You may delete files that the OS needs to boot (fixable through recovery, or a reflash), or overclock and overvolt your CPU and GPU so much that your processor burns. So, if you do root, make sure you read guides for anything you do, and that you understand what you're doing.
It's just like driving, actually. If you know what you're doing and pay attention, you will be allright most of the time, unless when someone else screws up and you get unlucky. If you know what you're doing but get complacent, you may miss a sign or something like that, and the chances you get in an accident increase (a good example is the famous brickbug from the Note, SGS2, Tab 7.7, etc: Samsung screwed up, and root users who didn't pay attention could brick their devices. Those events are rare, though). If you have no idea what you're doing and are just following to online guides the letter, your car has just became a weapon of mass destruction. Accidents will happen, sooner or later.
So, be careful, and make sure you understand what's going on whenever you see the SuperUser/SuperSU notices. If you do that, you will be fine, and (as others already said) you will be able to get the software 100% "unrooted" if something ever needs warranty.

Spoon feeding is not allowed here.
If you're a Android n00b and want to know how to root or flash custom or stock roms I suggest you do some reading/research. We have plenty of Q&A and guides that cover this.
Asking "how do I root" is a silly question to ask because its already been asked and answered so just look/read.
If you lost somehow your IMEI number(0 under *#06#), rooting the device won't help.
First, before any movement, backup your data and then restore defaults. Maybe it's some king of bug?
Settings->backup &restore -> restore defaults, erase memory.

yea i did type *#06# but imei is not showing up . its empty!! its not a bug. its a corruption in the imei ... i have no idea what to do now
First, relax. Its just a phone.
If the phone is still under warrenty - get it replaced/fixed for free where you bought it from.
If not, try to recover the iemi like it's explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021

thing is its hard to relax because i dont have an altrenative phone and it costed me a lot . my warranty just got over a few days ago another problem ........
well i checked out the link . but i dont get the cmd, adb shell part .. the whole 8th point i dont get it ???.
If you don't get it, there isn't anything further anyone here can do to help you. Send it to a Samsung service centre/authorised repairer, or ask local mobile repair shops. This is not something you're going to fix yourself.

hmmm.. well i went to them . they asked me to change the motherboard whith a total cost of 800 dhs.. which my parents wont give
CMD is command line - like MSDOS or Linux terminal. ADB is not something that you'll get by asking questions and getting answers, you need to read about it and understand it. It will take you a couple of days to figure it out.
I'd try going to several different phone shops/labs. Hopefully they will diagnose the problem without replacing the entire PCB. It's worth a shot.
If every shop says that you must replace the board, ask around. Maybe one of your friends knows someone who is able to fix this.
From what you described it seems like water damage or other hardware fault.

If you want anyone to -try to- help you get your phone back you should at least consider searching for easy questions.
Check what ROM you are on and perform a search at xda or google (or both).
Now, are you sure warranty is voided? if it was 2 years you still got time....If you root your devices, warranty will be off the table for you.
Seat back and get you sh*t together, take a long breath and then report back to see what's up.

Hi all,
I have exactly the same issue on my Galaxy S2 on Vodaphone in the UK. It's out of warranty and not rooted. I did an IOS upgrade to ICS v4.0.3 and at that point it shows no signal and the IMEI no. is blank after dialing *#06#. Somehow it has lost/corrupted the IMEI no. during the upgrade.
Is the only way to recover the IMEI no. to root the phone? Or is there another method?
Thanks all!
An iOS upgrade ? No wonder you borked your IMEI
Go to Samfirmware, find the latest stock rom for your carrier/country. Flash it with Odin. How ? Search/read/learn. If you're lucky, yours is a case where the IMEI disappearing is a transient thing & doing a 'good' flash of stock (as opposed to the update that obviously barfed in some way - I presume you're talking about an OTA update as opposed to something you did manually ?) might well fix the problem. We've seen a number of similar problems on here lately.
If you're unlucky, you're SOOL & it ain't coming back. Rooting it isn't going to magically fix it unless you have an EFS backup, which you won't have if you're someone who's never rooted their phone. Take it to a local mobile repair shop, they may be able to help. A Samsung service centre/authorised repairer will also fix it for you regardless of the warranty status, they'll just charge you more than a local mobile shop who isn't an authorised Samsung repairer will, likely.
Thank you for your response! I took the S2 to a phone repair shop, the guy tried flashing it back to stock IOS but this failed. He ended up replacing the motherboard, all fine now. Would like to find out the safest way to upgrade the IOS to Jelly Bean now, it's currently running Gingerbread v2.3.3. Any advice appreciated, in the meantime will do some reading up.
Thanks all, great forum!

Okay i might be able to help you .but tell me your model number ......
if its GT-I9100 then you can update easily ,but if its gt-i9100G or smoething else,im nt sure i cn help .. u might have to do some readings ..
The model is GT-I9100, I managed to successfully upgrade the IOS to 4.1.2 using Kies. Perhaps I should've done that first time around instead of selecting Settings-About Device-Software Update over Wifi - which resulted in the phone losing it's IMEI no.
Many thanks for the replies!
okay dude .. enjoy your JB ...
