Question Nova launcher home screen delay - Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G

Anyone noticing a delay going back to the home screen in Nova launcher 7.0.57 on this device?
Currently on 12. 5. 6 but this is happening even before on previous ROMs. Now it seems a little bit worse anywhere from 3 to 5 seconds until the home screen loads.

That's an eternity for an Android. Sort it out.
If you're using any kind of power management, try disabling it.
A buggy launcher can boot loop an Android really well
System instability is often the only warning, if any, you will get.
Nova Launcher uses more resources but never saw that kind of lockup with it.

Using Nova paid for version on MMX MIUI and not having any lag. Just have this for cold boot. After that it is fine. On 12.5.6.0 EEA

Would having certain widgets effect the loading time of the homescreen? Even the 2 rows of apps I've created delay from loading.

Anything is possible, wysiwyg.
Something is not optimized or fully compatible it seems.
Nova was slightly slower then my Samsung's native One UI launcher but not terribly so.
I went with the native launcher because of better features, fast response time and better battery life.

So annoying and tried to just remove widgets and reset nova, always a small delay.
Ended up installing Nova 6, previous version and it loads fast barely any delay going to the home screen. Only thing I miss about the new Nova 7 is the extra customizations such as swipe down to launch another app on each application

Yeah the 3rd party launchers gave me a headache too...

[Q] endless scroll home screens

ok, i have tried searching enldess scroll, bounce back home screen, continuous,etc.. and i cant find an app that will let the home screen loop around back to screen 1 as in 1-2-3-4-5-1-2-3-4-5, instead of having to swipe back 4 home pages to get to page 1.
i believe its called endless scroll, and adw has it, but i dont want a whole new launcher, i wanna keep the gingerblur launcher.
any help is greatly appreciated.

I believe you may have to install a whole new launcher. LauncherPro should have it as well. Luckily you could get a theme for one of these launchers to look like GingerBread PLUS you'll have a ton of new features (e.g. endless scroll)
doesnt it use up more memory or is the main launcher disabled?

That's strange...do you get this lag when you use ADW?

I'm actually not sure ADW has those settings, but it might in the paid version (I never used that one). My LauncherPro has never seemed to run slow or laggy or anything..Maybe you should install it and then reboot your phone just to try it out after everything is fresh and restarted or something? If you can get it to not be slow, then LP is definitely the way to go. It has the option you're looking for and you can definitely get a sweet theme to make it look just like the Gingerblur launcher.
i have ADW EX and i know for a fact it has it gets kinda annoying actually lol

You do need to use an alternate launcher to get the affect you're looking for. I've tried most and I can say without doubt that 'Go Launcher Ex' does this smoother than any others I've tried (and it's free). I personally use this feature and love it, I can't believe it's not built in to the Android OS (or should I say MotoBlur). Below is a link to 'Go Launcher Ex' in the Android Market.

i like go launcher the best, it's free and allows widget resizing for free (unlike LP). it also has the infinite scroll.
Hey guys, ADW Ex (paid version) has the looping screens too as stated before and it works very well in my opinion. To get the scrolling smoother though, it be best if you set the background to unscrollable and that way the background doesn't have to readjust everytime you go from you're last screen to the first screen.
Go Launcher EX has the loop option, plus you can choose the ginger theme and it's free. Made by the people here at XDA

Go Launcher actually seems to lag a bit more than ADW for me, especially with a live wallpaper.
after using go launcher, with main launcher frozen, i noticed battery life decrease. i mean id leave work fully charged, and by the time i got home (1hr later) i was at 84 percent. with regular gblur, i am usually at 95-96, sometimes 94 when i get home. sad to say im back to regular gblur with no endless screens
I'm using LauncherPro Plus and it's very smooth for me (it has the endless looping of homescreens). There is some slowdown if you use live wallpapers, but with static ones and with animation speeds set to the fastest (and in spare parts too) it's great. An other thing that slows LP down a lot is if you turn 'high quality scrolling' on. It doesn't make a very visible difference visually, but it lags like hell for me.

Tip about launcher performance

In playing with the G4 over the past few weeks, I've discovered some interesting things about launcher performance, so I thought I would share.
After using Google Now Launcher for several days, I began to notice that it was sometimes dropping frames and stuttering a bit much for my liking when swiping between screens. I switched back to the stock LG Home launcher and amazingly, scrolling was almost perfectly smooth with hardly any dropped frames.
Curious as to why this was, I began testing various launchers... Nova, Action Launcher, Apex Launcher, L Launcher, an AOSP launcher3 build from KitKat, etc. Finally, I noticed a pattern. Launchers based on the KitKat AOSP launcher source all ran very smoothly, while launchers based on the Lollipop AOSP launcher source all dropped frames too often when scrolling around the home screens and app drawers.
So from this, we can deduce two things:
1) The stock LG Home launcher is based on KitKat or earlier AOSP launcher source code. No surprise there.... just look at the page indicator dots, the app drawer background, and the three dot menu style in the app drawer. They all have KitKat styling.
2) LG optimized the G4 to run KitKat based launchers more smoothly since that's what their own launcher is.
So what can we do about it? Well, use an old version of your favorite launcher, of course. Action Launcher 2 is still available in the Play Store and has its own listing. I went with an old version of Nova (Classic v3.3 from http://novalauncher.com) and find it performs more smoothly than the newly released Nova v4. And not to fear, Nova v3.3 can still be configured to look and act like a Lollipop based launcher by changing a few settings. See my screenshots of Nova v3.3 below to see for yourself.
Hope all of you who are driven crazy by the slightest stutters find this information helpful. Let me know about your experiences.

I was surviving with the stock launcher but went crazy after installing the tempered glass protector. After removing the glass all of my swipes or scrolls were being registered as taps.

I too have been trying out the top 10 most know launchers in the playstore and have seen that issue as well compared to the stock launcher. What makes me go back to the stock launcher is two things. Health widget for step counter, and the smart notice widget.

I know me too. How nice will be to add those into nova.
I'll be honest, I am running the latest Nova launcher and I haven't noticed any dropped frames or hiccups whatsoever. Everything seems buttery smooth.

apex is the smoothest launcher at the moment. nova ( i have the paid version ) is not that smooth like action launcher 3,
i'm only running apex for now
The app drawer and everything runs better , try and see yourself , you'll be impressed.
Great discovery. Nova and Google Now was always my go-to launcher but I have noticed frame drops. Very minimal, but I guess some of us are cursed to notice these things.
I always end up reverting to the stock launcher after awhile. I'll try the suggestion above and give Apex a run for a few days.
Also, anyone find it weird that some widgets like the default clock widget can't be used with other launchers?

Not weird at all, LG based widgets are baked into the LG launcher. Same thing happens with Samsung based widgets, can only use them on the TW launcher.
I'm using stock LG's launcher and it works very nice for me. I disabled Smart Bulletin option from settings and the launcher flies. With this feature enabled the launcher was getting laggy after a few hours of use ,now it's just perfect.
The only thing that drives me crazy about the Stock launcher is the lack of backgrounds for the icons. I like all my icons to feel somewhat uniform. I know the LG Launcher supports themes (basically icon packs)... but the Verizon model has this ripped out. I know it is accessible through some song and dance but the icon packs were pretty bare, only like 20 icons to cover the basics. Some custom packs have more but still barely cover the grand scheme of play store apps.
Overall good find though. I actually really like Action launcher 2 and run it on my tablets but I am unsure about on a smaller device I intend to use with 1 hand. I know you can setup swipes to pull open the drawer. At least we have options. I wonder if this happens on other devices, or just LG?
Very interesting to see that Lollipop based launchers stagger. Although KitKat was the best Android experience I ever had. Lollipop is fun but on the LG (or other skinned devices) the change is miniscule. KitKat ran like a beast on the G2 but started having problems when it upgraded to Lollipop.
I use KISS Launcher. No framerate loss there.

New Update: 9.0.0.183 (Nova Launcher Compatibility fixed?)

I have disabled the stock launcher since I installed Nova Launcher for my Huawei Mate 20 Pro. After updating to 9.0.0.183, the animations seem to be working fine already.
Anybody else have the same experience?

have you fisabked the launcher or just deleted it with adb? if you would you please instal the latest pixel modded launcher or lawnchair and see if the amdroid pie navbar and recents kick in

The only thing that's annoying me now is the front facing camera's stubborn beauty mode that cannot be disabled.
I have loaded the update 182 (yes 182 not 183) from funky Huawei about two weeks ago and that has fixed the one minor issue I've had with Nova Launcher.
It has been working perfectly fine since then.
My only issue now is that the Nova Launcher support has sent me an angry reply to my request because I own a Mate 20 Pro.
Those guys are pretty angry because of the accusations of Huawei intentionally sabotaging them.

you dont understand... can you install newest pixel or lawnchair launcher and set it as default, and give all permissions (and since you disabled the launcher you have to use the navkeys right? ) then reboot.... and look if the new pie gesture ui kicks in.... the recent overview and pill navbar.

because the launcher is responsible for the navigation gestures in android P.
realy hate the emui gestures and wish to use stock android P gestures
this will take max 15min. of your time but help me forever.

I hope this is the case for me. I stopped using Nova because the gesture is just so stuttery and buggy when using it.
You have an unread badge count for email, whatsapp etc using nova and tesla? Mine doesn't tho I have enabled all in the settings

Really? So when swiping up to go to home screen it doesn't show the recent apps for a split second and then go home? It's definitely a bug others have experienced when using gesture nav on emui.

No it works like stock launcher
The gesture navigation works ALMOST perfectly with nova launcher. This is the best I could ask for. But just let me point out some scenarios that it stutters a little bit.
1. The animation when close an app is gone. You can't see the app fading into its position on the home page.
2. The gestures are a bit more sensitive on nova than stock EMUI. For example, swipe up and hold for recent apps. On EMUI launcher, it is about 0.5 seconds. However on nova, it is more like 0.3. Thus I often hold for too long and end up on recent apps instead of home page.
3. Under some special circumstances, the background picture for recent apps screen is the previous app you used. It looks extremely weird. I didn't manage to get a SS of it. Will upload once it happens again.
Having said all of that. I feel this 183 update improved the gestures navigation by a huge leap! Just need time to get use to it.

This was what I was talking about. The recent apps screen bug. But it is not a deal breaker to stop using nova.

I had to go home again to get it to start working. I had to manually perform the gesture to go to home (I have gesture UI rather than the traditional 3 button interface).

First Android with stock launcher

That I am perfectly fine using. Every Android I have ever had got Nova FIRST. This S10 has all the options and features I need to not have to do that. Anyone else skipping 3rd party?
No. I don't mind Samsung's software now days, but that is after replacing the home screen. I'm using Action Launcher on my S9+ with OneUI and probably will with the S10 as well.
My primary motivations are: Swipe left for Google, I don't like side scrolling app drawers, and replacable icons... That's really mostly it. Their launcher isn't awful, it just isn't very customizable.
I feel pretty much the same as AJerman. I never ran TouchWiz any longer than I had to and One UI is almost usable but I'll probably still stick with Nova. The #1 reason for that is no vertical scrolling in the app drawer. That was a major gripe in the One UI beta program and many of us suggested that to Samsung. It's a shame Samsung left out that one minor tweak.
I always switch to Nova to hide apps, for the 5 x 6 home and to lock down the home screen. This has all 3, so I'm gonna stick it out to see how it goes. But miss the swipe to Google Now though.

Trying to give the Bixby screen a fair shake, but I think I am very likely to load up Nova for the Google feed on the left. I don't hate Flipboard but it's clunky compared to Google or old-style Blinkfeed. I do wish Nova supported motion backgrounds.

This is really bothering me. I dont want a 3rd party launcher, the launcher is fine except for that stupid search bar. Also I had many problems with 3rd party launchers in the past, and I'd rather keep the stock one which is tailored to the Pixel 6 series.

I've been using it for the last 6 years. It is feature-rich and less buggy and annoying than the four previous pixel launchers.

The beauty of Nova is, you can run both launchers, customize each as you like and switch between the two on-the-fly.
Infinite scrolling, custom bottom bar, multiple grid layouts...
When I get my P6P (today in theory) I will load all my apps from the Play store and restore my Nova backup. BOOM! my new phone will look and function exactly like my old phone... only bigger and cooler.

Thanks - I went with the Microsoft one - as it was the last one I had tried on my OnePlus over a year ago.

Switched to Nova overnight (insomnia!) - did not like the news choices of the Microsoft Launcher left swipe page - stuff from Hello Magazine, Daily Express and Daily Mail -???
Added the Nova Companion and now got the Google Left swipe and no wasted screen space on the main page.

I had never heard of the MS launcher, or maybe never really given it any mind. I looked at it yesterday after you mentioned it and it looked awful. I really hate the tiles and the forced news that I could care less about... too much work to make it what I wanted.

Then you're missing out IMHO.
There is nothing "wrong" with the Pixel launcher per se, as long as you don't care that Google, like Apple, dictates how you interact with your phone; but, if you want to customize your phone to your liking, a custom launcher is the only way to go.
Nova has been rock-stable for a long time and has a myriad of great features, most of which are free.

Nova is my launcher of choice.
It has been for a decade or so now.
I've tried many others but always come back to it.
Sometimes I use Action Launcher or will try something new but again always come back to Nova, which I am actively using on my new Pixel 6 (received it yesterday) as I find the stock launcher extremely lacking in features - haven't suffered a single launcher related performance or stability issue for a very long time, including on my P6.
I don't like having an app drawer or icons / widgets cluttering up my home screen so I assign gestures to launch specific frequently used apps such as Chrome and YouTube and for Nova's integrated "app search", which also displays other recently used, newly installed or frequent apps in tabs separate from the search bar.
I have a single Google "At A Glance" widget

Wait, what's Nova Companion? I just put the Google icon on my home screen so I could tap it to get to the Google interface, but a left-swipe would be way cleaner...
If you root your phone, you can get rid of the search bar in the Pixel Launcher, add rows/columns, and more.

Use adb to disable it.
I use a package disabler to do that.
For me it's called "com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox"
I'm not missing it...

Which package disabler are you using if you don't mind?
A little late to the party. Always used Lawnchair launcher on my Pixel3. Just got my P6 a few days ago and upgraded to Lawnchair again. Seems pretty stable on Android 12. I add Lawnfeed to enable Google feed left-swipe. Lawnchair is pretty similar to Pixel launcher except you can customize much more than stock (ie, disabling the bottom search bar).
