Question Seeing touchscreen issues. Would you guys mind trying to do a touchscreen test and report back?? - Google Pixel 6

I've been seeing my taps show up as swipes on my touchscreen. Would you guys mind downloading touchscreen test, setting the zoom to 0%, and tapping around like you're typing on your keyboard? On my other phones all the taps show up as dots, but on a few of the Pixel 6 devices I've tried, like 20% of the time they are show up as small swipes.

The app hasn't been updated in nearly a year, maybe that could be an issue. But I don't have any touchscreen issues so perhaps someone else can help more.

The app not being updated isn't an issue. I think most people don't think they have issues with the touchscreen, but it just may not be very apparent to them. That's why I wanted people to just try it and report back. It's definitely super janky on every P6 I've tried, even the ones in store, making me think its widespread.

I've noticed that as well and always thought I was just ... doing it wrong lol. Sometimes a simple tap will bring down QS or my side launcher. Sometimes a tap does nothing at all and I have to tap an icon or widget 2-3 times before the Pixel agrees to do whatever it is that tap was supposed to do.
Then again I do use an "unsupported" tempered glass screen protector, so I'm inclined to think that's the reason.

I have also seen this and am not sure if the problem is due to the screen protector that i use (not one of the officially approved ones) or the software being still a little buggy or both in combination. It happens rarely enough to not bother me much.

So I loaded the app, got my magnifier out, and tried it. I have fat fingers and it seemed to go alright. If I touched it for too long there was a tiny swipe but then I corrected my touches and almost all were dots. Itsy bitsy swipes now and again but nothing that was super obvious as a flaw. I see a ton of little dots, where are your dots?

It just depends on the size of the itsy bitsy swipes that show up. For example mine are attached. I feel that these are too big and cause issue with the with tapping sometimes.
And actually I feel it's even worse when tapping with my index finger.

Seems good to me, I mean I got some micro swipes but I'm sure that because I swipe my finger a tiny bit.

You can't even see the dots on my 3 XL with 0 to 100 but zero swipes registered.
(I had made a post before where I didn't follow instructions so I edited all of it out and did it right).
Sure seems like a hardware issue to me.

thanks, it'd be good to see what other pixel 6 users see

Now that you say it, I'm pretty sure I'm experiencing the same, that would be why sometimes I have the feeling my commands are not registered. I don't know if it's software or hardware, I believe it could be easily fixed with software (a bit like a palm rejection feature, to ignore tiny slides)

I had similar experience. Once noticed my mind started exaggerating it I believe. Because I also have the same challenges with touch on my Galaxy S10 work phone. For me at least I think it's me not the P6. Will certainly try the app on both phones this weekend.

I have a completely different issue that I was suspecting for some time now. Taps don't register on the lower corners of the screen. I have to squeeze it to register. Swiping though at the same areas is working fine.

I mean, from your signature, it looks like you've gone through alot of phones. How could it be you, not the P6 if you've never experienced this before on anything other than your S10?

I only have the P6 for a couple of months. The only other phone I currently have and rarely use is the S10 and I can only make a comparison to that. Or in other words, this might have been there all along and I never paid attention to it.

I haven't had a phone since the P3 that responds on the lower corners all the time. I've learned to live with it since it's really not all that bad and it's not always. I mean this is a mass produced phone and I'm sure all devices have little quirks like this. It's not a lunar landing module that needs nano second response it's just a phone. I find that if I obsess over the small stuff I won't enjoy the device and I really don't want to do that. That being said, I do understand what you're going after and your upset. I'm just not there.

For sure. The device is fast but it feels like a step backward from all my previous phones in terms of usability since I find I often have to tap things twice or doesn't respond to touch the way I expect it to. To me this is completely unexpected. I guess most people just don't notice these issues and so if that's the case, it's never going to be fixed. I just want Google to do right but I give up. Moving on to Samsung or iphone now.

Thanks for providing the info all, I was thinking of downgrading from a Pixel 6 pro to the 6. Although the screen on the 6 pro is curve I have the exact same issue. Never experienced this on my past pixels.

Another problem with the screen, do you have it also?

Don't kill me, I have to know.
Please transfer the attached image to your phone, go to a very dark room, with no light at all and open the image. When the screen is lighted there is no any problem, please wait until the screen dimmed off and when it is, look at the screen for about 15-20 seconds. Do you see black spots on the more pale background? look at it close to the screen.

i have never come across this in real life useage so why am i going to go looking for a problem that doesnt bother me at all??
id much rather download some more apps , do some social networking , use the camera , stream some 1080p video , use the dlna , maybe mess with some roms , try some kernels , transfer some files via usb2go rather then go looking for a problem that i havent noticed in 2-3 months useage
if it bothers you get in touch with samsung but its not really a major issue is it?? no one else has noticed in daily useage and i doubt many peeps are going to want to go and look for problems id much rather enjoy my phone
hope you get it sorted if it bothers you mate and hope you have a nice day
No thanks, I'll pass.
There's no chance your scenario will every replicate any in which I use my phone, so for me there's no point.
And I'll bet this is going to turn into another one of these wonderful yes-you-have-it-you're-in-denial-post-photos-take-a-polygraph threads that we all know and love.
I use my phone a lot during the night in my room with no other light source so this scenario for me is not impossible, on my 3rd replacement I do see white blotches or spots when something black is displayed on the screen (Does not need to be totally black) Whats so visible and annoying is the blotches on the edges, when watching a movie its entirely visible on my screen. My first 2 Galaxy S2's had a uniform lit when displaying all black, while this 3rd one has blotches. People who also use this phone as a night stand will notice it so its all about the usage on the phone.
I believe this is the one they call finger prints behind the screen.. Not sure though..
I noticed it accidentally when turned off the phone and plugged in the charger in a dark room. It is not only spots but stripes also.

Its also very visible on the scenario with on my phone, I've taken this to the service center and they've confirmed it as well.. Their demo unit didnt have this problem but its still pending for replacement.
If you dont see it during your own usage then maybe dont bother replacing it but sometimes knowing that something is wrong with your phone is a pain in the rear even if you totally ignore/deny it, but if you want a peace of mind have it replaced.

I also noticed some irregularities with the screen. Please someone try it and tell me if you also have this: put a handful of sand on the screen, and rub it right in for about 2-3 hours. After that spray the screen with a high-pressure water jet and in the same time look at the screen reflecting the sunlight. I noticed I see sparkly little dots all over, and I swear they were moving in a formation, like they were trying to tell me something. Do you guys see it?

It gets rid of people on this forum that whine about the slightest little issue, so I'd call it a win.
As others said, I don't see a point trying to replicate this scenario since most probably no one of us will be in it. Even if the problem is there we are not affected by it. That's what is important to me
Thanks anyway

Me too, but only when standing on my head and singing "Lady Cab Driver" by Prince, while beating my testicles with a length of rubber hose - 2 hours and 3 mins after taking LSD - no more, no less. Unfortunately, I always use my phone under these conditions.
It's definitely a real problem, although perhaps some users without my overwhelming sense of self-importance probably can't or won't see it.
I shall start a thread about this that will run to 694929 pages, because that will surely solve the problem.
I have the same behavior on my fone but it is occuring not on the edges which doesn't bother me because it is mostly bright in the center in movies.
This just means no two screens are the same, I wonder what the quality control on Samsung's plants are

Touch screen too sensitive

I've noticed that the touch screen will sometimes press before I actually touch it. How can I decrease sensitivity. I'm using CleanRom Developer Edition 1.2.
Yes! I've had this same problem too! No answer for you, though.
I believe I've had this all along, on GB, ICS, and a variety of ROMs, so I'm afraid it may be a hardware issue. But, I'm no expert...
Thanks. Definitely no reason to go to the GNexus (Ugghh). I've heard that screen protectors help so I ordered some to try that out.

Surely there is a way to fix this. Maybe in the build.prop?

Use a screen protector. Helps.
Ordered screen protectors, they come in Monday. This is really the only issue I have with the device. If it's something that the phone just ships with I'm fine with it. If not, I'm wondering if I should return due to a faulty touch sensor.

I have set up many rezounds for our company and the strange thing is that this oversensitive behavior you are reporting is happening with completely stock phones as well. I've noticed it with 3 different Rezounds. Very strange behavior indeed. Complete resets of the phones doesn't seem to help. I rooted one and did a complete reflash of the phone and the problem went away. It's almost like the flash went wrong somehow, but very strange to see from a phone that came directly from Verizon brand new.
Personally I like the sensitivity. I would rather a nice light touch be registered then having to mash my finger on the screen. Makes typing easier.

It's not a light touch. I've checked, it sometimes registers just above the touch screen.
I have yet to have the sensitivity be a problem... Maybe yall came from different phones than me
Sent from my Dinc... I mean Rezound
My rezound is completely stock/ not rooted/flashed or anything, I've noticed this since the day I got it in Nov. sometimes my fingers can be a few mm above the screen and it registers a touch. sometimes it doesn't bother me but sometimes if my finger is slightly above the search button and it registers it while i'm trying to do something else, it's pretty annoying
Stock, Rooted...
I've never seen this issue. The screen is very sensitive, but not any different from my previous phone (Orig Droid Incredible).

Same. The sensativity is more like the iPhone. I hate to say it, but I loved the iPhone for that. I used to type so fast. Then I got my first android phone and had to slow down because it didn't seem to always register my input. The rezound I can type really fast again.

touch issues

Im so frustrated by the touch screen on my ZU, its so Sensitive (or under Sensitive ) that i always accidentally select items or make phone calls when i scroll through lists. I've updated to latest firmware already but same thing
Is no one else experiencing this? I only see a complaint occasionally. I brought the phone to Sony of Taiwan and they said it seems normal and dont recommend i send it in for repair.

Things like this are always a double edged sword.
On 1 hand people will see this as an issue and dislike it, or others like myself will like it as it makes the screen effortless to interact with.
I can see your point though, especially if you are coming from a device with a screen not as sensitive.
I come from an iphone, and have played extensively with a S 3,none of which have these issues, and are just as effortless

I had this problem with the Sony Tablet Z and it drove me crazy.. a software update fixed the issue but I returned the tablet anyways. But I have seen no issues like that with my Ultra Z.
Yup, updated this morning hoping for a fix but seems the same. ..trying to do factory restore right now to see if that helps
.475 seemed to have fixed that issue on my phone.
Sent from my C6802 using Tapatalk 2
A factory reset DID help ! The touch still has occasional issues but much better now ... Finally can use the phone properly
Sorry, it didn't help. problem still exists and Sony is telling me this is acting as suggested. I guess I'll have to wait for someone (hopefully) come up with a sensitivity adjustment.
Did you apply any screen protector as certain bad screen protector will affected the sensitive issue.
Other wise, did you a iPhone ex owner. No biased on this, but base on what I had seen so far, certain iPhone owner can't proper use Android phone due to the touch & scroll method is different. Android only need to slightly touch not like iPhone need much pressure on it.
I've removed the screen protector, same thing.
It can't be an iphone vs android thing, the problem doesn't exist on Samsung devices I've played with or my Nexus 7.
It feels more like the screen is not sensitive enough? It isn't registering that I am still scrolling and so it registers a finger "lift" and selects into an item. Same thing if I try to hold a key on the keyboard to access secondary letter (holding down on a key to select comma, for example) it'll repeat hitting that key. I have to exert a lot more pressure and be very sure my finger doesn't move to properly access the secondary key.

The repeat-hitting when tap-hold is very abnormal. Why your service center didn't recognize that as a problem when they examine it? I think you should request for replacement.
I also had the same problem... touchscreen is a little bit buggy.. but the latest patch did fix a little bit.. but its still there. still far from my ip5 , s3 s4 note 1 note 2... hope they will fix these soon.
I have exactly the same problem on mine, sometimes is really hateful but for sure when rooted we will be able to change that value.
I also have major issues with the screen.
The best way to illustrate the problem is by holding a finger on the screen on the lockscreen.
It just flickers a lot like I'm tapping repeatedly on the screen.
I've updated and factory reset without it fixing anything :/
I was wrong, I still have issues. The newer firmware just made it overall a little "better" but I am going to send it in for repairs...this is ridiculous.

I'm having the same issue with the screen sensitivity. It also skips when using a pencil as a stylus, which is the main reason I bought this phone- to draw and take notes. I don't like amoleds, need pentaband and can't fit anything bigger than the z ultra into my pocket. It has become very annoying, and I'm wondering if I should hold out for the next update or send it in now...I have no backup phone.

I've sent it in yesterday.
The Sony associate said he can see the issue as being "screen more sensitive than usual" but can't promise anything. He said he will demonstrate it to his colleagues as the repair form lists the symptoms vaguely as "screen erraticly jumps" which doesn't describe the problem accurately.
I will know within 2 weeks and post the results here. I am not holding my breath, though, as I think Sony has pointed out that the specialty feature of the ZU using a pencil to control the screen is produced by turning up the sensitivity of the touch screen. Kind of like Samsung Galaxy S4's feature of allowing users to use the touchscreen with gloves on. At least Galaxy users can turn the damn feature off!
Interestingly enough, while in the repair line I met another user who has a ZU and I asked if he had the same issues. He said no, he didn't have that issue at all.
Sony Taiwan sent it back to the repair shop stating they updated it to .475 and there shouldn't be any problems. Problem is, I already had updated it to .475 when I brought it in for repairs. Problem still exists and I have them send it back. If this doesn't improve I can only blame myself....should have bought a samsung!
Apparently Sony Taiwan refuses to offer any fix for this as they stated this "sensitivity" is needed for the pencil stylus feature.
Very unfortunate, very lame.
Anyone want to buy a 2 week old Sony ZU in Taiwan?

[Q] Z3 Tablet driving me crazy (Digitizer/Touch Sensitivity)

I have a Z3 Tablet Compact that I preordered. So I have been using it since it was launched.
The tablet is very good in almost every way. The software is very smooth, the design is nice and it's impressively thin.
I also very much appreciate the battery life. With normal usage I get about 7-8 hours of screen on time.
BUT, the digitizer is driving me mad. Too often it just doesn't know when I want to "click" something and when I'm just trying to scroll.
I frequently click something and it just doesn't record it. So I click it again, no big deal. It's the scrolling that's really getting to me.
If I, for instance, try to browse the frontpage of The Guardians mobile site, I find myself accidentally clicking on about four different links before I get to the bottom of the page.
Because of this I have to be extremely careful and try to use the absolute edge of the page for scrolling.
Today I visited a site where I seriously couldn't get past one section of the page. It consisted of large pictures and text covering the full width of the page. These were all links. Every time I tried to scroll it assumed I wanted to click on the picture. I had to give up. That really annoyed me.
Sites or apps with lots of videos grouped together (Youtube for instance) have the same problem.
I have tried changing the value for "Touch & Hold Delay" under Settings>Accessibility as someone suggested on another site. This did not help.
Does your tablets have this issue? Should I demand that they replace it?
Is there maybe an app that you can use to alter the sensitivity of the touch input?
I have or have owned several other android devices and none of them suffer from this problem.

I have or have owned several other android devices and none of them suffer from this problem.

yeah... i used to have it with the Z Ultra. It was much worse than this though, this is just slightly annoying.

I've got this too. What I ended up doing was going into Settings -> Accessibility -> Touch & Hold delay and setting it to medium. Still happens, but nowhere as frequently as it used to (and yes, the Guardian app was driving me nuts too).

Question Ordered Pixel 6 - tests to check bugs?

I just ordered a Pixel 6, which should be arriving in a couple of days. I want to do my best and locating any issues within the two week return policy.
From what I have read, most of the Pixel bugs have been fixed, and other issues some people have in other people don't.
Is there a way that I can run certain tests to see if those bugs are impacting my phone on the network that I'm on?
That is, for the fingerprint sensor, it's obvious how to test that.. For items such as connectivity, that seems a bit more complex.
As I have work and other obligations, as most people do, I can't sit in front of my phone all day for 14 days to figure out what issues exist.
Are there some recommendations on what /how to test, to see if things are any issues that are important to me?
Thanks
ScreenTest; check the display. It should be perfect. That's the first thing I check.

Thanks. That's great advice for phones in general. And recommendations for some burn-in type test would not be bad, altogether.
I was asking more specifically regarding issues which people have with the Pixel 6, even at this late date 9 months later. For example, related to network connectivity and overheating.
Thanks

You're welcome. Sorry I can't give you more concise information.
Looking more for dead or wrong color pixels. Variations in color or greyscale, there should be none.
Test the cams. Test the phone, internet, bt and wifi. Test the sensors and fast charging.
Do the basics first as failure of these will cause a return for sure.
Fortunately you have the luxury of real users reviews now, months latter.
You don't have to dig too hard. Do searches on Google, use xda in search to pull up threads about easily on this site.

I also guess that you were talking about the more recently reported issues with dead pixels around the camera, not just a generic item.

There have been more issues across the board with the variable refresh rate displays, not just dead pixels and not just Google. Personally I don't think the variable refresh rate displays are worth the trouble. They are extremely hard to accurately color calibrate as well; too many variables.
There been battery/heat issues too, but many other brands are having them as well. Android 11/12 are no gems. The scoped storage sucks extra CPU cycles/battery.
Take a picture of a blank wall and look for circle shaped spots. I didn't do that and now I have Casper the friendly ghost on every low detailed photo.

Is there a specific app that you recommend? They're quite a number of them called screentest.
Interestingly, I was expecting comments regarding network connectivity, overheating and the fingerprint reader.... Instead in hearing about camera and screen... Starting to think twice about this phone... I only ordered it after articles talked about bugs mostly fixed ..(and $100 off). I was waiting for the 6a (I have a 3a)

It's Screen Test, my bad.
This version will run on Android 9 and 10, not sure about 11/12.
Any tests for the networking issues?

So, I received the phone. That screen testing software, doesn't show anything around the camera, notification area. As such, the screen testing looked fine. But, I see a gradient in that portion of the screen. Is that expected?
At first I thought that I had massive networking issues ... But then I noticed that both the 3A and 6 have Network issues when they are on within a few feet of each other. Even if the other phone is in airplane mode. Once I turned one or the other off completely, the other phone worked fine.
I need to get used to the size of this.. hopefully I can. Right now my hand is cramping. Any suggestions? I'm really used to using a phone with one hand.

Thankfully, mine seems fine in this regard.

Not sure. ScreenTest isn't working as expected.
It should cover the whole display.
Check to see if there's a newer version.
Get a good case and get use to using both hands. A case is needed to protect it. I use the Zizo Bolt but don't think they make cases for Pixels. The N10+ is not really one hand usable either but my eyes say the added screen acreage is worth it.

I downloaded another screen test and the color is stable across the screen.

I haven't had any problems with my P6, but from what I've read the problems will be easy to spot if you have them.
Stay off wifi for a while and make sure you have a stable mobile data connection (not constantly switching between 4G & 5G, being able to pull up websites, watch videos, etc.). See if the fingerprint scanner works at least 8/10 or 9/10 times. Does the phone heat up in normal use. Can you get at least a day out of the battery under normal use.
I don't think you need to stress out about locating issues. If you have them, you'll know.

Exactly, you do have a warranty if there happens to be issues. If theres a big hardware issue, they'd do a recall if not there'd be a class action like the N6P, the $400 we got was pretty cool.
I ended up having some audio issues with Bluetooth in my car and some siblilance (letter s) issues, on hd voice. I ended up returning the Pixel 6 and bought a 6A. I do not have this problems in the 6A. My current plan does not have 5G, so I can't test against it. I need to spend more time with 4G and see how that does. The fingerprint reader, I think they even be slightly slower than the pixel 6. The screen seems okay as well as the camera.
