Question Motorola Moto G power 2021 verizon need help to sim unlock - Moto G Power (2021)

Hello everyone,
First i want to thank everyone at XDA Forum community for being a great resource of information and providing great community support.
I purchased Moto G Power 2021 (Android 11), locked to verizon. I am trying to unlock it to be used on other carrier such as tmobile and for traveling. I came across websites that sell the unlock code.
However the problem is when NON-Verzion sim card is inserted in the phone, its does not ask for sim unlock code. Therefore not sure how to carrier unlock the phone.
If someone has insight how to go about network sim unlocking the phone, that will be very helpful and greatly appreciated. thank you

i'm in the same boat

Verizon is a cdma network and boost is a gsm network. The radio files included in your Verizon firmware probably aren't capable of connecting to a gsm network as the two networks operate on different frequencies and I assume employ different connection/communication protocols. You MIGHT could flash the firmware from boost for the same model, but even doing that could be frought with problems like if the boost firmware is older then anti rollback protection wouldn't allow it to boot when flashed, and I'm not sure if the Verizon and boost versions have exactly identical hardware, which could cause massive problems even if it did flash and boot. For example, this model phone has like 3 different touchscreens and using a firmware with the wrong touchscreen drivers would render the touchscreen useless. If you're determined to carrier unlock, be ready to do some serious digging and read everything you possibly can before doing anything that could have irreparable consequences. Best of luck

mine is a cricket, I'm trying to go to T-mobile, same protocol, just don't want to pay the extra $$$

What's the model number of it?

I'd imagine you maybe could flash the firmware for the carrier you want to switch to using the fastboot flash method, the rescue tool will only flash your phone's official firmware. But you can download different builds for different carriers off of lolinet and if they don't work you could flash the correct firmware to get back to where you are now. You might flash your official fw with the vendor stuff from the other carrier's rom if flashing the whole firmware doesn't take or isn't compatible in some way.

Hello thank you for your advice, unfortunately i don't have much experience in flashing different firmware. Also i think it causes too many problems, which are difficult to fix. Therefore i was hoping if there is a way or hidden menu i gotta go into will activate the phone to ask for unlock code when different sim in inserted.

Tmobile is much cheaper in comparison to other carriers. I think once the phone is unlocked it will work pefectly.
When you insert a non-cricket sim card does your phone ask for network unlock code?

yes, it does. it is network locked and "not eligible" for unlocking.
I called Cricket, but they won't unlock it because it hasn't been on their network for the six months they want.
I bought the phone really cheap on ebay for its long battery life., it's damaged (bent as if someone sat on it) but works fine, no cracked screen or anything else. I want to use it on my T-mobile account.

If you have a G Power 2021 from Cricket, then no, your device does NOT ask for an unlock code when you insert a non Cricket SIM

it does not ask for a PIN to use it like a tablet.
I need it network unlocked so I can use it with different carrier.

i downloaded the RETUS rom, i'll try to flash it and see what happens

I believe the issue of why it's not asking for unlock code may be two fold. For one, since you mentioned you bought the phone locked to Verizon, was it purchased from them or was this a second hand purchase like ebay/FBMarketplace etc? Because either way you'll have to meet the carrier minimum requirements for unlocking a device, the former scenario of you having bought the device yourself being much easier to deal with than the latter case.
Second, as was mentioned here earlier, you may be dealing with different hardware. I'm not sure if the G Power 2021 all contain the capabilities to run all network frequencies or not. But if it's hardware restricted or dissimilar to other models in kind based on network carriers & OEM agreements, you might not be getting the chance to input an unlock code because the third party SIM inserted may simply have no way of being recognized by the device, either from a software vendor blob limitation, a hardware radio restriction or lack of capable hardware, or both!

I know this is an old one, but was a solution ever found? Currently stuck with Moto G Power 2021 as well, locked to cricket. It doesn't prompt to enter a code either.

Only free solution is to meet all of Cricket's requirements, and have them do it for you. Otherwise a 3rd party company can do it, for a fee

That sounds better honestly. I'm open to using a 3rd party company, but point me in the right direction if possible. I've been looking, but no idea what service to use if the moto g power isn't asking for a code.
EDIT: Actually, I finally found someone at a reasonable price to do it, and it worked, phone unlocked. They used USB Redirector and did their thing. Took all of 10 minutes. Now I just need to flash a different rom to rid myself of the cricket bloatware.

Have you tried another sim card in your phone, I'm pretty sure these all come unlocked by default. Mine was bought at US Cellular & I'm using a prepaid Verizon service by simply throwing the new sim card in the phone. It works perfectly as it did with US Cellular with no setup or changes required. I believe all moto g power phones do this I had a regular moto g power not 2021 that was on Verizon I switched to straight talk the exact same way.

Unlock For Use In Spain

Hello, I am currently in Spain for 6 weeks for work. I contacted T-Mobile for an unlock code for my phone prior to leaving. I got a sim card today, popped it in and booted up, but my unlock code doesn't work. Does flashing roms have any effect on the unlock code working or not? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Its not easy being here without a phone.

What's happening exactly after you boot?
Because I'm also trying to use a Vibrant in Europe and I don't even get to an unlock code... it just boots as if no SIM is in, and doesn't do anything with it (it shows it's in there, but I can't choose operators, join networks etc.).

The SIM you have probably has different bands than what the phone can support. Check GSM Arena for what bands the Vibrant supports. If you are sure its supported, it's probably that the phone can't read the SIM. If it can read it, it will ask for an unlock code.
@ OP: ROM flashing does NOT affect whether a phone is locked or unlocked. The code you were given is wrong then. It could be possible that you wrote it wrong since they spell it over the phone usually. I would contact T-Mobile AGAIN and be a bit upset over getting the wrong code.
Alternatively you can use an app called Galaxy S Unlocker to unlock the phone. But try calling T-Mobile first. It's faster and easier.

What does then (exc. from finding an unlock code)?
Cause I'm stuck, GSM Arena says it's a Quad-Band phone and supports the European frequencies.
Once unlocked, nothing should affect the phone's unlocked status.
I beleive carriers and manufacturers can lock it again but I'm not sure of the procedure. For your issue, GET the correct unlock code and you are good to go.
I was going in circles with T-Mobile. Ended up buying sgs unlock off the market and was unlocked in less than a minute. The T-Mobile support staff are useless.

[Q] Is it possible to remove network lock without an unlock code?

I have reviewed similar threads for a few days but have not found any answers. The simple question I have is in the title:
Can you unlock the ATT Atrix without an unlock code.
However the situation is a bit more complicated and ill explain.
I have been traveling the past few months and was in Costa Rica for a month. I decided to purchase a local SIM so I could use my phone without paying ridiculous ATT roaming charges. I inserted the SIM and it was locked, unaware of the network lock I inserted my personal code thinking that may be it. No luck and returned to my old ATT SIM. At this point it still worked but a few days passed and I tried again, still no avail so I contacted ATT. It just so happened the 6 month mark was coming up from the original purchase date of my phone so they would provide the unlock code in 4 days time. I waited and finally received, after inserting the code it did not work and I contacted ATT back to assure they provided the proper code as they had to send me a replacement phone a few months prior due to my original Atrix crapping out. They checked it out and determined it was correct but it never worked. I finally inserted my original ATT SIM back into the phone and it also requested network unlock code. Now I am back in the states and even with the original ATT SIM it still requests for the network unlock code. I tried unlocking and flashing with CM7 beta and STILL requests unlock code. So basically the phone is useless for network data but will work fine as a mini tablet i suppose connected to WIFI.
So with that explanation does anyone have any idea on bypassing this or removing this entirely, not even to use overseas but just on the ATT network!
Additionally
ATT provided me with another Atrix to alleviate my troubles so im not entirely phoneless. However I would like to sell one of these and possibly purchase the GS2 0_o
I have contacted 3 cell phone unlocking sites explaining the situation and only one has responded but not with any answers.
HELP!
if you got a new phone, is it still asking for a network unlock code?
No. Its working fine, but I still have this perfectly good working phone I would rather use and sell the brand new one. Unless I cant get rid of this unlock problem I suppose Ill sell it as is. Any takers?
Hi, I talk to att once when i want to unlock my atrix and they told me if the phone is more than six months old the give you the unlock code for free.
so for the atrix if that is your phone you can ask att for your code since august 21.
just call att customer support.
hope this help.
try a diff sim card with data plan and see if it still asks for code
or try flashing a custom rom
I suppose I was not clear in the OP. ATT DID provide this code for me. I did flash a custom rom already.
As far as using a different SIM card I tried to use a second SIM that ATT provided and still nothing.
I am assuming this is a very unique situation and probably wont find any answers unless someone has successfully unlocked the phone by flashing some special ROM.
Flashing a ROM of any kind will never sim-unlock your phone.... ever. period.
The only way to resolve this is through AT&T. The only way to sim-unlock is with the code it requests.... must have proper code. That is the only way. So, I would talk to AT&T about it, in person, at a local store.
I unlocked the inspire 4G simple by rooting and flashing a custom rom didnt ask for network password after that it worked on tmobile
With edge service no. 3g or 4g different bands between tmobile and att

Just the info I was looking for. Basically the phone is boned in that case. Spent a good with with ATT advanced tech support and motorola to no avail.
What I do want to know is WHERE this information is stored out of curiosity. It seems the modding community would have tinkered with some hacks to remove the sim lock at some point.

Ok so I am reposting and not editing as I feel this deserves a bump.
I got my new Atrix unlock code from ATT today and tried it on the new Atrix I received and that one ALSO will not unlock.
Is there ANY ATT Atrix sim unlocked and if so how did you go about doing it? I have only found one thread and no response via PM.
How to SIM unlock Atrix!
I have read both your post and I believe you used a ATT sim card that was not in use or a GO phone Sim card. Am I correct so far? To sim unlock you have to insert a non ATT sim card!! No go phone sim card or a non active att sim!
Call one of your friends and borrow a Verizon sim or Tmobile sim. You only have 5 tries to do this. So as for your first Atrix I believe it is already locked permanently to ATT. Dont ruin your second Atrix.

Well I found that if you push #073887* in the dialer it will actually prompt you for the unlock code. I tried this with NO sim in at first and that is when it said it was unsuccessful. However late last night I inserted my ATT SIM back in and tried again just for ****s. Entered in #073887* and typed the unlock code and viola, it worked. Interesting information for anyone who wants to unlock there Atrix WITHOUT another carriers SIM!
But back to my original issue. I wouldn't mind if the original atrix was locked to ATT, at least I would still be able to use it. The problem is that it wont work with ANY SIM. My thoughts is that it is a glitch and locked the phone to... nothing?
To make matters worse I emailed cellunlocker.net explained the issue and they said they thought if they requested a carrier unlock code it would work. Paid the 20 and 10 minutes later they sent me the same unlock code ATT had provided. Now the hassle of obtaining a refund.

Yea. Both.
you have to use a *different* sim card than your regular carrier uses (ex - I'm on AT&T, so i used a Boost Mobile Sim to unlock my Atrix) You cannot use YOUR sim to sim-unlock.

Yes you can, by the method I explained in my previous post. It works!
There may be some confusion. The one im referring to (the original ATRIX) will not unlock with an ATT sim, a TMOB sim, a verizon SIM, or even a Costa Rican SIM. NO matter WHAT the SIM is in the "original" phone it always prompts me for a SIM unlock password. Like I said I believe it to be a glitch, intending to lock it to the ATT SIM but in reality it locked it to NO SIM.
So to restate.
YES you can unlock an ATT Atrix with only an ATT SIM in the phone using the method I explained. ( I did it with the phone in my hand right now)
and
NO my original Atrix will not unlock regardless of SIM installed or method.
i will send you a p.m with my offer
Just out of curiousity did you ever set up the sim card lock feature in the location and security settings. It will ask you for the unlock code every time you turn your phone on...shot in the dark here....

Atrix 4G unlocking SIM

I'm getting a bit frustrated... I have unlocked and rooted the phone and now I"m trying to unlock the SIM so that I can give it to my wife to use with a European Sim Card. I've googled, read and read and so far I've done the following:
1. Placed the European SIM into the phone (that I used in my old TMobile phone to date)
2. Was presented with "Enter sim network unlock pin"
3. Called AT&T and obtained the "unlock code".
I tried that code 3 times so far. After spending a fair amount of time with ATT support on the phone they believe that the "pin" is different from the "code". Btw, the unlock number was confirmed to me by ATT support folks twice... I rechecked the IMEI number twice... and I"m stuck... what do I do? Is there a difference?
Btw, I tried it under CM7 and AOKP
Thanks
SIM vs Carrier Unlock
There is definitely a difference between Carrier unlocking and SIM unlocking. I was steered wrong by AT&T the first time I asked. Essentially, they gave me a code that would allow me to override being locked out of my SIM card (to access phone numbers, etc) as a result of entering the SIM password wrong. This was NOT what I wanted.
I called back, and specifically requested a Carrier Unlock (for using other companies' SIMs), and they then made good on this request. You will need an active SIM from another carrier to get the job done, but if you specify your request to them, hopefully they will get it together. Another option is to buy a code at the numerous online re-sellers, but like I said, AT&T gave me mine for no cost. Good luck to you!

Thanks, unfortunately they keep sticking by their guns and claiming that the code they're providing me with is the proper one.....
Don't try too many times, after maybe 5, not sure, you can permanently lock your phone. It is a security measure.
You nay already know, but hate for you to mess up your phone.
I'm still convinced that there's no way AT&T or anyone else would be able to tell you remotely what the code is.
When you buy new SIMs, they come inside a credit card-shaped piece of plastic. On that card itself (not the sim), there's two spots: one for a PIN and one for a PUK. The PIN is needed because the new SIM defaults to being locked as a security feature. Every time you turn off the phone, the SIM locks itself. Once unlocked, however, you can go into a phone's SIM settings and leave it unlocked permanently for any phone.
You need to find the card that originally came with the SIM.
Chrism suggested not to attempt the wrong pin too many times. It won't lock your phone, it will lock the sim and then require you to enter the PUK code.
I still wonder if it is the phone. When you enter the code, then you can use any sim card. He wants to unlock the phone to work with a different carriers sim I believe.
His problem is with the phone, not with the sim, is it?
Could be wrong.

I believe this is correct. Also, if you are entering the carrier code, and enter it wrong a specified number of times,i'm pretty sure it can lock your phone. I have unlocked well over a dozen, and have always been warned about it....

Reread the OP. The phone is already unlocked and rooted. That means that technically yes, he can use any sim card on his phone.
However, not all sims are sold unlocked. As I mentioned before, it's not uncommon to buy a prepaid sim outside of the US (like the OP's Euro sim) and be asked to enter the sim pin upon start up.
If you reread the OP, you'll see that he's describing exactly what I'm talking about. I've had to do this a handful of times on a handful of unlocked phones.
Regarding locking the device, again, the OP phone is already unlocked so locking the actual phone due to entering the incorrect pin is impossible. It would be the sim that would be locked (since the phone is asking for the sim pin) and could only be restored by entering the PUK. I've had to do this a couple of times myself for people who had forgotten their sim pin but still had their original card info at home. Once you enter the PUK, it works again.
i would Spend the 20 or 30 buck online and get a diifferent code

Regarding post #8
I agree with post #9 as well.
Maybe so, not my experience though. He has unlocked the bootloader and rooted. He has not carrier unlocked. I don't think that they are the same, but you could very well be right. Thanks. At least we are all trying to help him out.
That sim seems to already be unlocked if he has been using it in a T-Mobile phone to date. His ATRIX is still network locked.
OP. Let us know please. Now I am curious.
Thanks.

I still haven't read where the OP stated he unlocked the bootloader. Rooted, yes. When I read "unlocked," I take that as "Carrier unlocked" the way that googling "unlocked cell phone" would bring up unrestricted/debranded/etc. cell phones, not necessarily having anything to do with the status of the bootloader.
That said, the bit about him using the sim on his older tmobile phone made me assume one of two things: he either forgot the code he used for that phone or it's a bad sim.
Granted, not every carrier unlock code works but given that he was getting it directly from AT&T (and it was on their servers), it should work. My Atrix, for example, required a code off Motorola's servers and even then the first code worked perfectly.
Trust me, if the OP has gone through all this trouble and the only thing left is to try the SIM pin then... 1+1=?
With the ATRIX you usually unlock the bootloader first, but that would explain some confusion.
Hey, I'm not trying to argue or anything.
OP, what unlock did you perform?
This thread is seriously non reality based.
Neither rooting nor unlocking has anything to do with getting the subsidy unlock code that allows non-ATT sims to be used.
ATT can cerrtainly provide the vaild code, and has always done so for me (albeit after possibly a await time).
3rd parties MIGHT be able to provide the same code. YMWV.
There have been some reports (search) that with the wrong radio the unlock code does not take. So ithat might be a way to go.
Wow, we are going round and round. Good luck.
Use search!!

Try THIS Thread---->Solved: Sim Unlock Fails With Valid Code
Sorry for taking so long to reply but for whatever reason I missed the email saying that there are replies. Anyways, lets recap
Phone is rooted and unlocked. I can run any ROM that I want and bootloader is unlocked.
The sim cards I am testing on (yes, plural) are not locked (as in they do not require a code).
I am trying to use a non ATT sim card (specifically I am trying TMobile EU) so that when I go traveling to EU again I can use the ATRIX with my local number that I keep rather then the ancient HTC windows phone that I have used to date....
I have made 4 attempts at unlocking so that means I am down to last one.....

[Q] Phone permanently locked

I bought an E970 on Ebay and when I tried to unlock the phone it did not accept the code. I used the code 2945 # * 970 # to enter in the SIM Unlock Process, and on the Network Lock option it says "this phone is permanently locked and can not be unlocked". Is there any way to reset this setting? Can I use a box to remove this setting, or reset the counters? Thank you
I contacted LG and they told me that only AT&T can restore the phone. Is that true?
Does anyone know how to resolve this?
Sounds like a SIM lock, meaning an unlock code was typed in like 6 times wrongly.... I am pretty sure it is just locked at that point. OR it is stolen..

I don't know much about this but I don't think that's true. SIM unlocking the phone doesn't happen over the networks so AT&T, other than having the correct code, doesn't have much to do with it. Also, nothing is permanent on the phone other than /system which requires root to change. I think you could solve your issue by factory resetting the phone. That should clear out what ever file or app is saying you are permanently blocked after incorrectly entering a code.
You could also try clearing data for certain apps that have to do with the SIM card and phone app. But I have no idea which ones and it could cause problems.
EDIT: I saw whoamanwtf's post. I have had my phone sim locked before and yes contacting the original carrier will get you the code. I thought you were talking about sim/network unlocking.

I am talking about SIM/network unlocking.
I bought the E970 while in the US, but I live overseas in Europe. I used the phone in the US with a AT&T Sim card, when I returned to my country in Europe I tried to unblock the phone so I could use it with Vodafone, but the code didn't work. The phone is already rooted and have the bootloader unblock all by me.
That's when I used the code 2945 # * 970 # to enter in the SIM Unlock Process, and on the Network Lock option it says "this phone is permanently locked and can not be unlocked".
The previous owner must have tried to unblock the phone using Internet codes, you can only insert 10 wrong codes, before the cellphone locks itself for good, meaning it stays blocked to AT&T. My question is does anyone know how to remove the setting of permanent locking? The phone works fine, but I cant change the SIM card to my carrier, it won't accept the SIM.
I was told that those kind of setting are in a different part of the phone, in dedicated chips and you need to use special tools like the SE tool box, or the Z3X box. But none of those boxes currently support this phone.
Does anyone know more about this? I really need to use the phone and I can't because my Vodafone SIM card is not accepted.
Would installing a custom ROM reset everything so you could try unlocking again?

This is just guessing, but no, I don't believe so.
This isn't a ROM issue.
The only thing that I can think of that MIGHT work is lgnpst... or maybe even the n4 conversion and then back to the stock OG.
The only reason I think that may work is it completely overwrites some partitions that are otherwise untouched by recovery/flashing/etc.
Mind you, the process is really dangerous and not supported by most of the devs (including those who pioneered it).
OP - either try and sell it for ~$100 and get another one... or try those methods since it doesn't do you much good atm.
Or go to the irc channel and see if the much much (much much much) more knowledgeable people in there know a fix.

I'm using the Base 0.7.3 with Nocturnal LE MOD
But the phone was already like this even with stock rom.

Where can I find the lgnpst?
Usually this kinda of problems can be solved using dedicated hardware/software, such as service and repair tools.
I'm sure LG have them, since they're the ones who made the phone, so it's a matter of time until someone makes a commercial repair tool.
I just need to know if someone as ever tried to read/write or at least located the EEPROM with the hard network lock.

You'll have to use the links here to get them from IRC, it is not allowed to be posted on XDA.
(I would ask somebody in there if it is even possible).
LINK.
But again, Idk if that will do the trick or not, it is the best chance though.
Does anyone ever tried to find were the phone saves the information about the sim card? Or about the carrier?
Maybe it's possible to fool the system.
Does anyone know where the information is written?
Does the phone uses a separate chip or is it in the internal memory?
Sorry about all the questions, I just want to understand why the sim lock can't be removed.
If AT&T can remove the lock, it's just a manner of finding were that information is.
The phone searches for the sim card only after booting, right?

LGNPST it and see if it fixes it. or like Bleached said, do the LGOG conversion then fastboot erase everything.

I believe I read that there are some partitions the conversion leaves intact.
So since you have to go the irc anyways to get lgnpst, I would ask them there if that would even fix your issue. If it won't they can save you from performing a few hours work and risky hacks.

I flashed the original AT&T ROM using lgnpst and it's the same.
From the experience I have from old phones (especially Nokias) the permanent lock is written on a special chip.
Normally you need to use special software/hardware like the Z3X-Box or SE Tool Box.
They can repair almost everything on a phone, but right now they don't support the LGOG. I think it's because they're from Europe and E970 is America only.
Anyway I'm going to send the phone to America, maybe the guys at AT&T can repair the phone. But I have my doubts since I purchased the phone on Ebay and don't have any type of receipt. And if you permanently block your phone that's normally your fault, so they refuse to repair.
One thing you could try add a last ditch is to pull the battery by opening the case. Then factory reset and start over by root freegee.

Possible GSM use on XT1526? Flashed TextNow Moto E with USC ROM - no success..

To be clear, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, and no experience whatsoever with any of this.
Over 12 hours of research I managed to unlock the bootloader, root, and flash my TextNow Moto E with a stock US Cellular ROM. Everything worked fine.
What are the next steps to take, if any? Is it possible to even use a GSM network on this phone? I have an active T-Mobile sim card that the phone simply will not accept. I get a "no sim found" notification.
I attempted this with no success.
To start, su command would not work.
This worked for me on the XT1529, but it might work on the XT1526 as well since they're both LTE/CDMA devices:
root, open /system/build.prop, add the following line to the end: ro.telephony.default_network=10
save, make sure the permissions are still 0644, reboot.
When you check *#*#4636#*#* it should be in LTE/GSM/CDMA mode, and in Settings > Mobile Network it should say "Global".

This didn't work. I ended up experimenting more and softbricked my phone, got stuck in a boot loop. Through curiosity I ended up flashing the phone with a stock xt1527 rom. SIM now recognized as a non supported sim, so that's nice. Still doesn't work.
I cannot post links to screens as a new user, but if you happen to want to see them, message me and I'll link them from my dropbox.
I ended up ordering an unlocked xt1527 last night. However, I would still like to figure this out. Would I perhaps have to flash the modem?

You could try the procedure posted in this thread if you haven't already, assuming your still on the xt1527 rom:

Just tested this - not working. This is a really maddening scenario
I contacted sprint and gave them the IMEI - they tell me that this phone can indeed be unlocked (xt1526), but I would have to do it through TextNow. I've searched for ways to bring up the SIM unlock prompt, but it simply doesn't show up with any of the methods found. :s

I am also having problems finding this menu. I wish there was an easy way to access it, but unfortunately, sprint has made it rather difficult.

I still have my sprint model as well, and have the MSL code. But I have also never found a way to enter it for unlock. I've tried using active ATT and VZW SIMs, and also tried flashing the USC modem on it - still works on sprint / ringplus, but also still won't acknowledge ATT or VZW SIMs.

I don't know for sure, but i did read in another place on here somewhere about an "embedded card" that sprint put in another phone. I wonder if that is the case with this one? If not, all i can really think of is that there is something in place that motorola made specifically for the sprint model. We know its not modem related, so it must be somewhere else, in the NAM, or something like that. One thing i did accomplish was to get another bar, (it had no signal and looked like an outline, but it was there), show up by editing the build prop with a specific line and then rebooting. Odd thing is, its the same thing that showed up when i attemped to flash another stock firmware. The firmware i flashed was for the xt1526, retail us. Which leads me to think it might be a band issue, as someone else mentioned in another thread on here somewhere. I mean, it would make sense with the no signal and everything. Sorry for the long post, just thinking out loud i guess.

Yes, I'm hoping there is a fix somehow. I'm ok to use the phone on WiFi, but it is otherwise useless to me. I'd like to have a backup phone in case my first Moto E dies, they are really rugged. I have experimented all day without success. Experimenting with build.prop does nothing. I export the build.prop text and post it just for reference, if anyone cares to play with it.

I talked to Sprint - they told me TextNow has to SIM unlock the device. I talked to TextNow - They told me the device IS SIM unlocked. So, there's that if anybody is wondering. I've almost abandoned this experiment, but it's still in the back of my mind. In other news - the new Moto E 2015 I received has a yellowed display. 2/3 brand new Motorola devices I received had display issues. Excellent phones, poor quality control it seems.

i got my E2015 from textnow for $10 as a refurb and its solid as a rock so far. I stumbled upon this thread and it looks promising, but im at work and we use citrix clients and not actual computers so i cant run it here, but ill give it a whirl when i get home. I do also believe that its GSM unlocked
Trying to make my XT1526 (Boost stock ROM) work with GSM, and got stuck on something weird. Inserted a SIM card from China Mobile, changed the network mode to "Global" and turned on roaming, after a while it got successfully registered on T-Mobile network, both voice and data. Yet, when I inserted a T-Mobile SIM card, the phone gave an "Invalid SIM card" error, and simply refused to connect. Thought it might be an issue with APN setting, but I couldn't manually add the T-Mo APN to the phone (in fact it wouldn't take any APN).
I think the phone's hardware is capable of LTE/CDMA/GSM. It's a just matter of figuring out the right configuration.

Why so tricky? Why? I am truly of no help, I just started the thread. Learning as I go...funny thing. Upon flashing again with the xt1527, and flashing the modem with a different modem software, the phone still shows to be a sprint modem software.
I wonder if the "fastboot oem config carrier" option would do any good?
DSU is tricky because it involved modifying the NV values thats buried in the radio software and it has a similar access issue to SU. I have (among many others) a Sprint S5 (G900P) and achieving DSU on it was the work of some SERIOUS developers. The config carrier might be of some help, but i havent delved into it yet, and im not sure if id fully understand what it means anyways. Additionally, Moto devices are tricky period. I had 2 Razrs (one xt 912 and one xt910), one of them was GSM unlockable and the other wasnt. Motorola mobile phone division has also changed hands recently, so its direction has also changed. Basically, whats needed here is either a ton of forum scouring or a developer to actually pay attention to this device, or a bit of both
