Recently, most of the UI has stopped functioning altogether. I've tried wiping the cache & dalvik, along with restoring a backup on the same build which I made when I flashed it & yet, it's still not working properly.
Instances are as follows:
1. Home & Recent keys have no functionality at all. Pressing them does nothing.
2. Notification drawer only drops down once. Can't access the extended one.
3. In settings, if I click on Users nothing happens.
4. Developer options are visible in the settings but inside there are no options except the message "Developer options are not available for this user".
5. SD Card slot isn't responding at all, not even in recovery so I think that's completely gone.
6. Some of the settings reset as well. Like, the order of soft keys I had set.. with the back button on the right, it's on left now. Display settings as well to name a few.
I'm yet to try a complete wipe but I thought I'd try sharing this here first if anyone else has experienced something similar.
Regards.

did you backup and complete wipe by now?
what if you use a newer build e.g. lineageos 16.0?

[Lineage os 14.1] Home and recents button not working, can't access developer options

Running latest weekly for lineage OS 14.1 may 18th, I was using my phone when it shut down suddenly and restarted. When it booted back up I had lost all my app data, I wasn't logged into chrome etc, the recents and home button do not work, on either on screen or capacitive buttons. (long press on recents brings up the app menu however, and haptic feedback registers the click)
I tried this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65442177&postcount=3982
By wiping the system folder and installing the nightly again along with an updated open gapps and it did nothing.
I can't access developer options, repeatedly hitting build number does nothing. I can't pull down the notification tray all the way. I'm missing menus in settings.
I honestly don't know what happened. I installed a new app[The world of magic] about an hour before this happened but I was using it the entire time. I've tried to list everything I ave come across, any help or further questions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
One of my friend had similar issue. Go to Settings>Profile and change it to owner. Probably it will help.
I had this issue when I started messing with rerunning the first time setup. Rerun the setup by following these steps:

So, just wanted to circle back... Contrary to the above, it is indeed possible*and I was able to do it and reproduce it reliably.*Long story short, it was the following two commands that did the trick :
1. adb shell
su
pm enable com.google.android.setupwizard/com.google.android.setupwizard.SetupWizardActivity
2. adb shell settings put secure user_setup_complete 0
The first command is case sensitive (SetupWizardActivity)

I was facing the same issue when my phone rebooted due to low battery. Can confirm that rerunning the setup fixed the issue. Thanks to this thread for the help.
These are the steps which I followed:
1. Removed the screen lock (Might not be needed, not sure).
2. Executed the above two commands mentioned by AlexInvar.
3. Reboot.
You can also pass that with Nova Launcher.
Just create an activity shortcut for "installation Wizard" activity and run it
After that, it will be OK.

Android 7.1.1 B04 (Axon 7) - Changes in Battery Optimization do not persist

Hi Folks!
Just a few days ago I switched from an Alcatel Idol 3 (Android 6.0.1) to the Axon 7, Android 7.1.1, B04. Strangely, if I go to Apps, Battery Optimization where one can set Optimization on/off for each app, these changes do not persist. I tried it with a couple of Apps (AquaMail, AccuWeather, WhatsApp, Youtube, eBay) and though directly after changing my settings remain, a couple of minutes later the Apps I've opted for "no" are again in the list of optimized apps and vice versa. This is absolutely annoying and this Android setting was working under MM but on the Axon 7, it does not.
I am using a new, unrooted device.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem/bug?
Any suggestions how to solve the problem? Do not want to do factory reset (phone is running smoothly), but tried wipe cache a couple of times, without success.
Thanks for your help.

[CM12.1] Stange bootloop after several months of trouble free usage

Summary:
So this morning (abiout six hours ago) my beloved S2 running CM12 crashed and could not reliable boot since then, it goes into some kind of weird bootloop.
The issue in detail:
Attempting to boot (long press on power button) will bring up the "Galaxy I9100" as sually and continues with the CM12 bootloader animation. After the typical time required to boot it vibrates slightly as usual, but afterwards the screen dims for about a second and the whole process is repeated.
What I did shortly before the issue:
Google Play wanted to update apps, but I was out of internal memory. So I went to /data/data and searched and deleted all files containing "cache". I've done this about 20-40 times over the last months (I didn't keep count) and never had any issue.
Things I've tried:
It is possible to access the recovery mode, but the options in CM12's recoverey are very limited (unlike TWRP for example). I cleared the cache but it had no effect.
After taking out the battery the "optimizing apps" windows pops up. When it's done, user input (enter sim, unlock pattern, homecreen) is possible, but only for a few seconds. The first time I missed the chance, the second and thired time I immediately restarted into safe mode.
Safe mode works surprisingly well, the first time I used it to let google continue the updates and disabled autostart of Applock and Greenify, the second time I uninstalled both Apps and cleared the dalvic cache (simply by deleting data/dalvic/). Neither attemped solved the issue.
What I'm currently doing:
After booting into safe mode for the 4th time I'm starting to back up all user data. Communication with a PC works only for some time, but reconnecting solves the issue (for now).
So what's next?:
Honestly I've no idea what I'm doing. I've installed CM on 3 devices in the past 4 years, but thats all experience I have. I'm hoping that I'm just missing an important detail and can get around all these problems with a simple fix. If not, I'd try a clean install, but I'd like to avoid that.
So, if you've got ANY IDEA what the issue might be or what to try, I'm open for all suggestions! Chances are that I haven't left the safe mode since posting, so you can also request sceenshots of anything you need. Thanks!

I'll update this thread with all step that I take, so that a) you know where I am b) I remember everything and c) people with similar problems might benifit:
• The USB connection was kinda fragile, so I copied all data to the micro SD instead
• sdcard0 could be copied without problems
• phone crashed during coping of other files in root. Folder "sys" has been copied (at least partionally) before crash
• reboot normal, but always with message "Trebuchet was closed"
• seems to work fine now
• exit plane mode (I've enabled it before to charge quicker and reduce heat) and display turns black
• medium long press on power button brings up restart menu, nothing else can be done (checked: double click home button for camera, long click for recent apps)
• turn on airplane mode again and restart and its just fine again
• tried out a different sim card, same issue.
Based on all this, I'd say the issue is a third party app acting (badly) on the ppresence of a mobile connection. Weird. Will investigate the issue further tomorrow, or - more likely - flash the new lineageOS version. I'll report back when I know more.
After making a backup of ALL files I followed the pinned tutorial to install linageOS. Everything - including mobile connection - seems to work fine now! Thanks @djibe89 for such an amazing easy-to-follow tutorial

Disable Slide to unlock and decativated settings at Android 8

Hello guy`s
i`m searching since days for a solution for my Android car system.
It has Android 8.1.0 installed, i can access the filesystem via adb root, the system itself is not rooted.
I have two issues with the device.
since a factory reset, when booting the system it does start into the "normal" slide to unlock screen, before the reset it booted directly into the Car GUI.
I searched also for disabling this, but only found how to reset or delete the passwords, and disable it on old Android 2.3 4.0 or 5, but not on Android 8.
it would now be easy said to just disable it at the system security settings under Display lock, but here is the second issue, the option seems to have been disabled by the manufacturor.
the same is with some other Option menu`s that are missing at settings.
i`m not that firm with android os itself, so i can`t finde the right command or modification to change this.
can someone help me how to disable slide to unlock, and how to reactivate deactivated system settings ?
sincerely Chri

How do I format/delete system partition?

Hey guys.
I have encountered an EXTREMELY frustrating problem with android 9/10.
I was messing with some options in my phone like 'data usage' and 'permissions' & disabling some apps using adb & greenify.
All of this was common stuff that I'd always mess with, on Oreo.
On oreo when my system apps 'wigged out' I could flash my stock rom a couple times and the system apps/services would go back to normal (Inactive).
On android 9/10 though, I notice that when these same system apps go haywire there is no way to reset them back to their default behavior.
My phone is running about 9 extra services than it should be (mostly samsung services). Also, my battery drain is draining about 25% faster than it should be.
Things I've tried:
1. Wipe data/factory reset.
2. Wipe cache.
3. Reset app preferences from app menu.
4. Reset all settings from reset menu.
5. Flashed firmware multiple times, using odin.
6. Flashed combination rom, to clear google data (this one fixed some of the rogue services, but not all of them).
7. Install combination rom and try factory reset from within the rom.
(Next, 8), I'm going to try Smart switch (PC) to reinstall firmware.
Some of the rogue services I'm referring to:
com.qualcomm.atfwd
com.qualcomm.embms
SVC Agent
Call & text on other devices
com.sec.imsservice:CloudMessageService
android:drmService
Software update
Bluetooth service
Samsung Push Service
Smart Switch (fixed by #6)
Samsung cloud (fixed by #6)
Find my mobile (fixed by #6)
(All these were inactive by default, but after disabling some samsung system apps these are now permanently stuck on).
(I'd like to remind you, I could fix all of the above services from running on oreo, with a simple double firmware flash).
I'm thinking I need to wipe my "system partition", but without root this seems almost impossible.
Has anyone encountered this issue before?
Does anyone know how to wipe/format system partition without root?
Any other suggested ideas would be huge. Thanks.
