Sorry noobie question here. Is there a way to backup (dump) my ROM before trying one of the new BETA ROMs? Can someone point me to a thread if it exists? Specifically, what software do I use, and any caveats?

So hello there community,I am new here and yes I know that there was somebody already who asked a famously question how to root a phone????So i am asking the same question because i am a completely noob about rooting a phone so I am asking you to post the original thread of step by step rooting a phone.BTW my phone is Sony Xperia S Lt26i runing ICS 4.0.4.Yep and one more noob question Can i possibly just root my phone but without changing rom i want to stay the original one from the factory,i am asking this because it seems to be the most stable rom...And if it cannot I am asking you guys to give me some good stable rom with all functions working for Sony Xperia S....Thanks in advance hope you can help me with this guys....
