Trouble keeping the Keyboard Book Cover attached - Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Questions & Answers

So I made the mistake of buying the book cover without sufficient research. I bought it used online, and didnt even understand the "adhesive/suction" part, which I ignored for 1 some weeks and used the cover upside down (which actually works, but forces the part that covers the pen. Not viable long term). When I discovered my mistake, I had trouble attaching it, but after cleaning with a slightly wet towel, and pressure, made it stay well stuck. for a few weeks. It slowly got weak on the corners, and there on. Then fell out yesterday. Couldn't reattach it back, falls off in minutes. Tried heating it with a hair dryer, but nothing changed. I'm trying to think about solutions, but none great.
1-Trying cleaning the glue/suction part with something like alcohol. It could work, or completely damage it. I prefer asking first.
2-Thought on removing the glue/section part and glue it with double-sided tape. Like the one used below PopSockets. Dont know the name. But that would make it go past Idea 1.
3-Thought on getting a magnetic case for only the back part, that folds like a triangle. Couldnt find one, and probably would be expensive. Im still paying the tablet.
Anyone had any success with this cover? I really like the keyboard part, and even the back part when it is working, but not making it magnetic seems like a giant oversight.

i had issues with the cover not staying there for longer than a few weeks
a while ago i removed the addhesive from the cover (very easy to remove. it just peels off) and replaced it with doublesided tape. i had to adjust it a few times (protipress the tab and the coverwith the buttom side (the one without any buttons) against a flat surface).
1. there is no gap between the cover and the tab anymore (the old addhesive layer was way thicker)
2. its really secure
3. its still removeable with a bit of force.

I am trying this. The first adhesive tape didnt stay good, maybe it was the heat. will try to reapply it. If it fails again I will find a better tape.

which heat? the 2 watts from the cpu
i used expensive from tesa (very common in here in germany). did place it over the entire lenght and cut it with a know cause it was a little to wide. my holds rocksolid. it requeres violence to tear them apart

Got a better tape. Didnt find Tesa though. Will update in about a month on if it worked.

good that you didn't try the "magnetic" option, because magnetic cover tend to interfere with the S-Pen.

The best option is to get a TPU bumper case such as this
TPU Case
Cut off the left edge to allow the keyboard to connect to it and then stick the back onto the TPU case. It sticks extremely well. I have had the back on for literally months and it has never fallen off. See my setup below. Just make sure to do a cleaner cut than I did for the keyboard. Should've used a straight edge. Oh, well it works.

you mean the worst?
such cases are cancer and feel like garbage. i never seen the point of buying an expensive devices with great materials and nice design... JUST TO PUT IT INTO A 5€ CONDOM that looks and feels just awfull

Haha, to each it's own. To me this protects the tab for scratches and dings. 2 1/2 years now and Tab still looks brand new without a scratch. I travel quite a bit with mine, so for me, this gives me some piece of mind about not having to worry about it getting damaged.

I did something similar but I bought a cheap magnetic case, cut away the crap like the part that folds round to cover the screen (which was also blocking me from connecting the keyboard), and superglued the official case onto the magnet case. Now it magnetically attaches and easily comes off when I want, without keep falling apart.

It worked, 3 weeks and not a sign of unattaching. Hope the case doesnt malfunction, it would be hard to remove it now without damaging the tablet.

my is till holding. i used tesa doublesided tape ont he full width of the tab. this will never come off in one piece. never.
if you used a good tape, you will expirience the same. my is still holding. could probably hold my entire weight

Has anyone used this crystal case for the 8125?

Was thinking of ordering one of these since i had a similar one for my treo, just wanted to see if anyone has used one and how they like it...thanks

yeah it looks nice but is bulky. you can still pull out the keyboard. overall a nice case. has a clip too.

does the case stay on the phone securely?
I just saw that. Might have to try it for my son's 8125. He didn't like the aluminum case -- said it felt like he was carrying around a brick in his pocket-- and he REFUSES to use a belt clip (as in with the leather case I bought him). This might be an alternative solution to BOTH of those for him. Doesn't look as bulky to me as the aluminum case.
Cases
Hi there. This case looks nice. Please let us know if you give it a try. I just received a leather case. I sort of like it but always looking for something better.
Hey, I've got a crystal case on its way so once I receive it I'll post about it. It should be here by the middle of this week.
Hi there. I went ahead and ordered that crystal case as well. Should be here early this week.
I also just ordered the crystal case. Its coming form Hong Kong. So its probable a cheap rip off.
But I hate the leather case that came with my 8125.
And the alum cases is like carrying a paper weight around.
I think once the cheap plastic molds to your phone it will be nice.
Should be here next week also.
And I'll give it a good review.
Case Logic
Hi there. Received my crystal case from Hong Kong. Don't like it. The back piece just is not secure enough and I can see the phone popping off and flying head first into a cement floor and goodbye $428 Ebay non insured Phone. So far the leather case I bought is the winner of cases. I just don't like having to unsnap it every time I use the keyboard, and the phone can push out of the top with a little pressure. Still searching for the ultamate case.
Alright, I finally got my crystal case.
Pros:
-It was cheap, so at least I didn't waste alot of money.
-The front part of the casing stays on very well.
-It looks really nice.
-Keeping it clipped on my belt and using it without having to take it out of a leather case is convienient.
-The screen Protector works very well.
-*Most* of the buttons on the phone are still easily accessible.
Cons:
-The back part of the casing does not stay on well.
-It's really annoying to release the phone out of the belt clip. Even more annoying than having to take the phone out of a leather case.
-The two halves of the case don't fit well together, so the edges are uneven.
-With the keyboard slid out, the two soft buttons at the top of it are almost covered by the top of the case, making them really hard to use.
-The case also almost covers the Camera button, making that feature of my phone a pain to use.
Overall, I'm not really impressed, and I would not recommend buying one. The worst part about the case is that the back half of it won't stay on (that's right, the part that clips onto your belt), which worries me because I don't want to turn my phone into a paperweight while walking down the street. Even clipping it into the belt clip and just pulling slightly on the front of the phone, the whole back of it came right off. The front stays on too well and is a pain to take off. A good idea, a good attempt at a case, but not the best engineering.
Ok, I give you the ultimate case. For me anyway. It has replaced my wallet. The main part of the case I got off of ebay I think. It was actually for an audiovox pda. Search on ebay for XV6700 or PPC6700. The phone and screen location match the wizard.
It has three credit card slots for my most used cards. It has slot for full size sd card and stylus holder. (The one in the phone sucks am I right?) It certainly doesnt fit in a pocket (not even a large one) but the belt clip swivels, and is very tight. I clip it on my pants when I ride my motorcycle, and even at 70-80mph it has not fallen off yet. You actually have to yank pretty good to get it off (I know that doesnt sound too clean, you know what I mean) The snap is magnetic so it is also very secure, and the phone will not come out unless you open the flap.
I had to cut a hole in the bottom elastic so I can charge the phone while it is in the case, and I drilled a hole in the leather where the ear speaker is just in case I need to quickly answer the phone.
The extra pouch on the side is just a credit card case I bought at walmart. It was in the section by their dayplanners. I used some auto trim tape to stick it on.

curious..what are the 2 plastic strips at side of the keyboard for?

what are they for? to protect the underside of lcd half from getting scratch when you slide the keyboard?
allow's keyboard to slide smoother?
or just packaging protection?
mines are getting folded and are starting to peel off when i slide the keyboard out..
You can remove them but your slides will start to scratch from pulling the keyboard out.
I removed mine when I got the phone thinking they were just protectors, but the keyboard doesn't slide in and out nearly as easily when you take them off.
why would you remove them anyway? i mean, it's not like you are getting a big weight difference by removing something that weighs less than a gram, lol.

Could people responding be confused on what he removed?
My xv6800 had the clear plastic film strips that you see on a lot of electronics. Those are designed to protect plastic display panels during shipping, etc. Those are there to be removed, it is a pet peeve of mine when I see people that leave those on.

lol, not talking about those obviously, he means the black strips when you slide open the keyboard, look on the left and ride sides, there is a narrow strip on each side (curved on the outside, and straight on the inside)
my comment was to the guy who removed them, and is now having bad sliding problems with it not sliding as easily...i posted that it mad eno sense to remove pieces of the phone, especially since they arent heavy so you gain nothing by removing them.
i'm not trying to remove them....their starting to peel off and get folded and twisted when i close the keyboard....wanted to know what would happen if they came off
My guess is your question was answered already.

I removed mine, no issues at all. I kept them on for the longest time, but when they started falling off, I just took both of them off. I think they're there to prevent scratching? I see light scratch marks on mine, but no problems opening or closing it and don't hear any scratching either..
hm, i sure hope we're all talking about the same piece. obviously that piece and the plastic covering on top of it are the same shape. the plastic on top has a tab to lift it off. the bottom piece is almost flush to the keyboard. so to clarify, are you talking about the clear tabbed piece that might look black because its on top, or the actual black piece thats flushed to the keyboard?

NO you are not supposed to remove those. jeez...that is part of the device's construction. those are NOT for "shipping purposes" lol. That is part of the unit. Plus, it makes it look better cosmetically too.
Take a better look at the picture in Post #11
If you look in post 11, the yellow arrows are clearly pointing at two black planoconvex (new word of the day - flat on one side and convex on the other) pieces of plastic. These plastic slides are part of the phone and should not be removed. I imagine they are a Teflon-impregnated material that serve to reduce friction when opening and closing the keyboard.
HOWEVER, when I received my unit, these black plastic pieces were covered with a thin layer of protective clear plastic - the one with the small tab pointing towards the keyboard. This is removable and serves, as was correctly stated previously, to protect the black plastic pieces during primarily manufacture and also shipping.
Leaving the clear plastic protection on may have negative effects, such as increasing friction, as it is not a low-friction material, and/or peeling with use, with the potential of getting stuck in the sliding mechanism.
Either way - remove the tabbed clear plastic - do not remove the black plastic slides.
Hopefully, end of discussion

Those clears plastic peices are exactly what im talking about....so it's ok the peel them off...good cause they're both getting crumpled up now when i slide the phone open or close
I took mine off of my 6700, and now off my 6800s and no problems. Most people say, do or dont, but doesnt seem like there have ever been any problems either way. Funny how this is like some wierd discussion where everyone says they are this or that without any real knowledge, isnt there someone that can contact HTC, its on all their devices so it seems so wouldnt be that far fetched of a question.

i dont get this! this is crazy...why would you dismantle a product??? there is no benefit from removing it, so why remove it? it is not meant to be removed anyway? that would be like getting a brand new car, and removing the door bumber stripes on the side....they are SUPPOSED to be there.
i dont get why you guys are removing stuff...? why not remove the little plastic that goes over the flash on the back of the mogul while you are at it?? lol.
obviously you are confused crobs...
they are not removing any part of the phone. think of this. when you get an LG device, the blue plastic that covers the camera and the microphone... its a shipping protection. HTC just uses a clear plastic to do the job instead of blue.
its probably the same material that is part of the initial cover on the touchscreen, the one with writing on it. Probably the same material.
Again, we are not removing any part of the phone, simply that clear plastic liner.

Galaxy Note 3 Metal Cover

Prefer metal cover instead of PU leather case on the back N3,get to know some aluminum alloy cover yet seems it's a little bit wired with the appearance of an iPhone knock-off,if anybody tried this kind of case and if it will block the signals ?

As of a couple of weeks ago, there were two variants of the "iPhone-type" metal case. One used two microscrews to secure the back cover, the other used a "tab/slot" method.
I purchased one of each for evaluation from eBay. The one using the two screws required me to remove the back cover of the Note 3 to properly fit, yet the overall "thickness" between this case and the other is the same (or so negligible that I couldn't tell). Both cases have two round buttons for the volume, but the microscrew case has an oblong button for the power, whereas the tab/slot case has a round button for the power. Another (important) difference is the microscrew case has a raised lip around the camera lens, so it offers some protection, whereas the tab/slot case is flat, and the camera lens DOES protrude a bit, exposing it to risk of scratching. The oblong button, in my opinion, looks better.
You would think that the tab/slot case would be more susceptible to having the back plate fall out (and the phone with it), but, in actual use, it is quite secure, and I doubt that it would fail (especially since your natural hold keeps the tabs "squeezed" to the frame anyway). However, I suppose if you dropped the case, the back panel could pop out, whereas the microscrew case would not (although, the microscrew case is only secured by screws on ONE side, and the other side is still a tab/slot).
As for actual use, (I'm on USA TMobile), I did NOT notice any signal degradation whatsoever... I got the same number of bars as I always did without the case. I didn't do a scientific signal measurement... just a subjective look at the bars, but really... it worked perfectly fine, and isn't that what is most important?
HOWEVER, it completely negated the NFC (ie, it did NOT work), and it also prohibits QI Inductive Charging. So keep that in mind. Bluetooth and WiFI did not seem to be affected.
Another thing to consider... the openings around the USB charge port are not very big. I had to file the hole larger on the tab/slot case so my USB cable could completely plug into the phone. The microscrew case was large enough, but just barely. I did not try it with the Samsung supplied USB3 cord.
So what's the final verdict? I think the tab/slot case is better, as it did not require me to remove the back cover of the phone, and as I stated above, it was no thicker than the other (maybe the aluminum gauge is thinner?). You also don't need to carry around a screwdriver (and you'll need a VERY small screwdriver tip) if you ever have to take your phone out of the case.
Ultimately, I chose neither one, as the aluminum is quite slippery in your hand. Instead, I went with a Seidio Surface case, The Seidio also has a kickstand, which I needed.
The aluminum cases do look nice, if you like the iPhone look, but after using them for a week, I got tired of the look and went back to the black Seidio. The black color makes the phone look less imposing... the aluminum just makes the phone look bigger. I suppose if you got the black aluminum instead of the silver, it would look thinner. Also, just FYI... I also purchased an aluminum bumper and one of those cheap "brushed aluminum" back covers to see if I could get a "thinner" profile but with the same looks... don't waste your time... it didn't look all that great, and the aftermarket back covers are THICKER than the stock Samsung cover, so it makes the bumper a very tight fit.
For reference, here are listings from eBay that are representative of the cases I purchased (no guarantee that these "listings" will be viewable after a few weeks). If I decide to not be so lazy, I might take some photos of the two cases and post them... but for now:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/291001851272
http://www.ebay.com/itm/200974399049
Hope this helps.
Had something similar on my tmobile S4 yes it killed signal in weak areas, ended up throwing it away.

Bumper or something to stop the "wobble"

I love this N6, kinda, wish it was smaller, but obviously nobody can do anything about that.
but I can not type at all when the phone is on my desk because the damn thing wobbles all the time. I want a bumper or something that would "protect" the edge, and would stop the wobble.
ideas?
Just go on Amazon.com and search: Nexus 6 case
There's dozens and dozens of different options, and most of them have reviews on Youtube that you can search for and see what you like.

Try holding the phone in your hands instead of laying it on a desk. Even if the phone didn't rock, it is still impossible to type as if it was a normal keyboard.

i had no problem with my S5 on the desk., my question still stands, I would like a case that will stop the phone from wobbling.
Rinke Fusion and max both have a back surface that reduce wobble. I use the Fusion clear with a dbrand skin. Works well. Looks good. Has very "grippy" sides, so it feels very secure when holding it. Doesn't add much bulk to the phone. Protects headphone and USB ports. All around my favorite case, and I tried several from spigen, ringke, and 2 others makers I can't seem to remember the names of.
This issue has bothered me since i got the phone. As far as I know, there is no case that flattens the back I looked.
So this is what I did.

I got two words for you... Rubber band. Put a round rubber band on a table and then put the phone right at center. It stops wobbling and spinning.
great idea, but i am not carrying rubberbands.. man , i hope they come out wih something a little smaller and less of a pain soon, and that is clean of crapware.
Sounds like you need an iPhone. Problem solved.

This bothered me too. So i tried some clear "dots" . They are about 1/16" tall and if positioned correctly the phone stays rock solid while typing on the desk.
Also, they add almost no depth to the phone because they are placed downhill from the apex of the curve.
Maybe not the most elegant solution but it works.
Crazy all the issues that come up. It never would have occurred to me to try to use the phone while it was laying on a desk. I can think of a million rejoinders (uhh....pick it up?). But LRFs (little rubber feet) are probably the best solution.
Case Found!
I found a flat case for the Nexus 6:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RYRT18Y
There are a couple caveats:
1. It makes the phone a bit bulky. Of course there's really no way around that if you want a flat case. The phone is pretty fat at that curve on the back.
2. I found the case is not compatible with one of three wireless chargers. This one FAILS:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QNXWLQE
[UPDATE - Turns out the charger works fine - it just needs more juice due to this case. I plugged it into the wall instead of a USB port and it's charging again. Thus I can now wholeheartedly recommend this case, as long as you don't mind the extra bulk.]
This style works fine (contrary to some posts saying it doesn't work with the Nexus 6, it works for me):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N4B3LTE
This one works when positioned right ( a little off center):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L7WGW7K
I was going to comment earlier but there's no 'slim' case that would prevent the wobbling. I got a larger trident case on my phone now and while it reduces it, there's a very mild type of spinning that can happen. Especially if you are swiping. Glad you found a case though.
If that one doesn't work out, I think the ballistic would be right up your alley to try.
I use one of those plastic bead filled wrist rests.

The key for me is that the anti-wobble solution can't block wireless charging. Some folks have used a slim case and added rubber dots along the thin edges, though I imagine most of those bumps would end up stuck in my pocket. Ideally I'd like a silicone slim case with built-in bumps along the edge. They would help for both stabilizing and gripping the phone without adding so much bulk.
I'm telling you, best slim case that helps with wobble is the Ringke Fusion. It's not perfect, but what is. After all, you bought a round phone dude...

I just got the CellBee Life Companion case (with holster) today, and it also provides a raised, non-wobble back for the phone.

Let's remake the Shield tablet internal stylus holder on the k1!

So I opened up my Nvidia shield tablet k1 today and saw that the internal stylus holder is actually still there. For the reason of budget costs I guess Nvidia decided to remove the "hole" that once let you sheath your stylus there. I havn't found any tutorials online that showed how to cut a decent sized hole to let the stylus rest in. So I guess I'll ask.... has anyone done it before successfully here?

I've done something similar with a dremel and a couple of files in the past. It's something I plan on doing on my K1 now that I have a brand new device to play with.
Considering the the age of the device, I doubt anyone has tried this out yet.
Drilling a hole in the side of the tablet seems extreme. I have been searching for a case that might be able to hold the styles as well but with no luck. I have flip cover for the k1 and have been trying to think of a good idea as how to stow the styles on to it. For example if I had a piece of stretchy material that I attached to the cover somehow I could slide the styles into the makeshift pocket and it could hold the styles when not in use.
Would I be right in thinking that the back cover of the older model would fit the newer one? Seems like it would be a nicer solution than drilling and cutting. You could possibly even get some of the missing internal components that way. Just need to find a broken 2014 tablet.
If this fails you can always do what I plan on doing in case this proves to be futile. Attach magnets to either like on the Surface Book. On a side note: The back cover already is "precut", as is the whole stylus mounting hole as seen here:
That is really interesting! They kept costs low by using the same molds to create the plastic parts.
A quick question seeing as you've opened your back cover already: is there a button/mechanism in the stylus groove that could potentially detect if a stylus is removed? Just wondering if they still left that in there (hopeful thinking! )

Sadly that module is missing, so no hopes there. The speaker cable is also in the way and has to be taped down or something to the frame if you want to fit the stylus later on.
I knew it was unlikely but thought it was worth checking.
At least there's a place to store a stylus (although after drilling into the tablet).
Guys....I did it. I just used a file and filed away, put the cover back on, and inserted the stylus. It's perfect. I would take a picture but I don't have a camera.

Tablet + Mirror.
Sorry, could not resist pointing out the lack of a camera irony whilst talking of a device with 2 built in.
I will admit that probably wouldn't make come out at a good enough angle to show the work well, but hope you got a quick chuckle.

post memes and op will give chuckles.
Please teach me how to do dis... Going to buy the stylus soon...
I just read this and thought I'd pop open my K1 to see for myself. Yep. It's there. Wow.
I'd drill a hole in mine too but I have two problems:
1. That cable.
2. Dust/Water etc.
Sent from my SM-G935V using XDA-Developers mobile app
Anyone drilled and try to make use of the stylus slot?
care to share some finished image?
would definitely like to see how it goes.
I "drilled" a hole also, the stylus sticks perfectly, but there was a cable in the way. just som sticky thingy to hold the cable and youre done

I did that too. Used some files and some crazy glue (for the cable). Works great. I have some pictures here http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/general/modding-directstylus-slot-shield-k1-t3408090

I would probably cover the ribbon with tape to prevent the stylus from sliding on the cable over time. Kapton tape would be the tape to use. How did you shape the notch in the back cover. Also when filing the metal area for the cable did you not worry about filings getting on the mainboard.

The cable is covered in a mixture of super glue and fine powder. No worries about shavings since I worked under constant airflow from the mainboard side to blow dust and shavings away
As for shaping the notch I used some jewelers files that had the right curve to them.
Stylus sensor can generally be found with 'nvidia shield digitizer' on ebay - sellers currently parting out new original style tablets - not real cheap, but you get a spare digitizer!

But why would they leave the whole circuit and components for the sensor if the sensor is not there...
They did 2 things to the main board a radio microcode update and the sensor removed from assembly any capacitors or resistors on the pen sensor circuit should also be left out... In addition they do have 2 different updates for the 2 tablets I imagine the k1 does not have the sensor as an active element...
That said i dont see that there is a whole lot of extra functionality given aside from auto wake on pen removal....
