Is esim absence in ATT Surface Duo , hardware limitation or is it a software block? - Microsoft Surface Duo Questions & Answers

Can anyone pls share any insight into esim absence in ATT Surface Duo?
Is it hardware limitation or software block(i.e. ATT Image blocking esim capability similar to Samsung phones?)

eSIM is software, so it's software block.

Dual Sim functionality removed

Hi All,
I hope that I am in the right place within the Forums. I have an issue where Vodacom and MTN (South Africa Mobile Service providers) have removed the dual-sim functionality on all our devices. They have some long sad story that they dont sell dual sim devices but Huawei is one of their top brands. They are essentially not providing all the services as per device specs so that they can limit peoples ability to use multiple service providers. Monopoly essentially.
Is there a way that I can re-enable the dual-sim functionality.
Thanks in advance

Enabling Carrier Aggregation on a Phone (Nubia RedMagic 3)

I cannot get LTE Carrier Aggregation working on this phone. I know that the Snapdragon 855 processor and X24 modem in this phone is more than capable of it. I'm thinking that Nubia has intentionally disabled the feature to save on licensing costs, etc as I've heard some other Chinese OEMs do it like Xiaomi and Lenovo. The hardware can be capable of it, but they purposefully disable it in software.
Can anyone help out in possibly being able to hack the phone and enable it? The bootloader is unlocked on my device and I can obtain root as well.

Esim?

Since the fold supports Esim, and it looks like the s11 / S20 line will support esim based on the rumours, just wondering if there is any definitive info yet on the lite supporting esim as a 2020 phone?
Anyone knows about that? If it support eSIM, perhaps we can have 2 sim (one phisical, one eSIM, and microsd..)
No, this phone doesn't have eSim support.

LG V60 5G network

Dear,
Apologies if I put the topic in the wrong place. I bought the LG V60 in a European web shop. (alza shop) But the problem arises with the 5G network the device simply does not have the option "5G network mode" There is only automatic and 2G 3G and LTE. I contacted LG myself and got the following answer.
"There are technical dependences here. These dependencies are different per country.
The V60 is 5G capable (for a limited number of bands though) but it does not work for all providers in all countries.
This depends on the V60 suffix as well. If 5G could not be fully tested for a specific provider it is sometimes switch off in software.
In the Netherlands for example 5G on V60 only works for the KPN provider at the moment (Android 10).
If you put in a different SIM card (so not KPN) the device will not show the 5G option.
This situation will change in the future with SW update"
Is there help here and does anyone have any information related to this? Has anyone had a problem like this and has solved it without waiting for the software update ?

Hi!
In Switzerland is the same: the v60 has 5g active only for swisscom operator. I have it now with yallo/sunrise network and it doesn't show any 5g option.
I tried to flash stock rom from poland but still no effect. Probably the limitation is on the radio part of the rom.
Maybe someone here with more knowledge could shed some light on what is the best approach to take...
I was wondering if just by simply unlock the bootloader (now possible on the european version of the v60) we could get a workaround for unlock the radio limitations...

Question Should I Get An Unlocked Google Pixel 6 Or An AT&T Google Pixel 6?

I have tried other forums and I am getting conflicting information.
I am looking for an Android smartphone that is capable of dual SIMs. I know that Apple iPhones can
do this, but I want an Android.
Some places I have read that the software on some smartphones designated for the United States
market have that feature disabled.
Anyway, my ideal smartphone would be:
Dual SIM (one physical and one e-SIM is acceptable)
Will work on AT&T and Verizon Wireless MVNO (like Total Wireless)
Has 5G bands for both AT&T and Verizon.
Will do wifi calling and texting, natively, on AT&T.
I think a Google Pixel 6 would do this. What I can't determine, yet, is if I should just buy the
unlocked Google Pixel 6 or the AT&T version. The unlocked version is $599 and the AT&T version
costs $739. What do I get for the additional $140?
pixel 6 is not dual sim, atleast not one the unlock version...
The $740 model has mmWave support. The base version does not. If you want to use Verizon and AT&T's fastest 5G, you want that antenna. Just beware that 5G is in extremely limited areas currently and mostly only works outdoors too because it doesn't have much building penetration capability. I personally would save the $140 since Verizon and AT&T are in the process of rolling out C-band 5G which IS supported by the modem and has much better range and building penetration.

It has eSIM and physical SIM which IS dual SIM. OP said that would be fine.

Yes it is. One physical SIM and one eSIM.

Am interested if this Pixel dual standby mode (SIM + eSIM) works for foreign sims too? Can I download AT&T as eSIM and use it with Spanish Orange SIM as physical SIM?

Should work as long as the bands are compatible, I wouldn't see an issue.

Slight tangent, but do you know if there's a way to check which version I have? I got mine as a refurb off Amazon, but it's unclear whether I got the GB7N6 or G9S9B (to my understanding the G9S9B has mmWave?) - and I swear I saw "G9S9B" in some device-info app but I can't find it again.
Edit: Oop, solved my own question. Termux getprop ro.boot.hardware.sku -> G9S9B. Neato. ...Don't know how that happened because I thought the G9S9B only came from AT&T and Verizon and I got it pre-unlocked, but I'm not complaining.
