Root STOCK ROM the simple way (HD1925) - OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Guides, News etc.

I accidentally stumbled upon a very simple way to install magisk (root).
Prerequisites
1: Bootloader unlocked
2: crDroid recovery
Boot to fastboot, install crDroid recovery on both slots. Boot to recovery. Sideload magisk.zip, reboot and profit!
Idk if crDroid recovery has to be installed on both slots, but I flashed it to both slots. Also, I used magisk 24.1 apk. I changed "apk" to "zip" then sideloaded it in crDroid recovery. I did it on the latest security update 11.0.1.18 and it seems to work flawlessly. Even passed safetynet. I would assume that technique will work on any version, but don't hold me to that. BTW, I used crDroid 12.1 recovery. Here's the files I used, https://drive.google.com/file/d/12sFTVOcu_Q5qfYG2bm9Z3ji3I5f2b_6-/view?usp=drivesdk

Here's a sloppy video of the process. Pretty simple

Sorry about the sloppy video, I didn't plan it out at all, I just grabbed my phone and started recording. But I'm really glad my technique was able to help someone else

A lot of people can benefit from your method. I was on a different Official ROM version, yet this method worked. I suggest you make a good video with proper screen recording if possible, for the community. I was able to flash a custom rom because of you. Thanks again @BobbyLynn . I'll probably do a "take 2" video today. I really should've planned it out before recording the video the other day. But obviously I just "winged" it I didn't even know I hadn't unlocked the bootloader yet So y'all got to see all of my little "mishaps" (that we all go through occasionally) but other than that everything still worked out exactly like I said it does.

Actually I probably should've put the fastboot screen in with it while I was running the commands, but surely to God even newbies will know to have their phone connected to their PC while running those commands And just in case they don't know, I made sure to put that "tip" at the top of the details

That's a bit more tricky. You would need to change the IMEI number, but you'd be treading in dangerous waters when you start tinkering with the IMEI number.

Wrong, there's a way to root the phone. The first step is to flash the recovery partition with a custom recovery (TWRP), and then to install SuperSU from the custom recovery, which effectively roots the phone. But for now the flashing utility is still not publicly released.

I just got this idol4 yesterday. Its replacing my moto e 2015 xt1527 that I had rooted. Sadly I lost that phone. Sadly because I had become so familiar with that device and its major ROM developers/contributors over the last year
So I must say I was a bit disappointed to hear rooting this device will not be as straight forward as last time.
If there are any steps I can take to aid the process feel free to let me know.

Here are a few tidbits. So far I haven't done anything extraneous like attempt any flashes, I've just been peeping. ADB replies "device" when prompted and let me cp those files. .
Is there something specific I need to be pulling that would help crack open this Idol?
P.s. The text document getprop.txt was generated with terminal command getprop in ADB shell. Its funny, the busybox components look present in system/bin, yet many commands return errors like "get proc not found in system/bin/sh..." to that effect.
And this line popped right out from that same document: [init.svc.flash_recovery]: [stopped]
I'm not sure if any of this info is useful to anyone. So far I haven't found a use for it. Lol
I'm still digging..
I havent been on here for awhile. Any new news on the idol4 for cricket? Any rooting possibilities yet?

Root instructions for the Phab 2 Pro?

I temp rooted mine with dirty cow, however it gained me very little. There are three main obstacles: 1) SELinux prevents most things from working, because each program runs within a tight security context, 2) using dirty cow causes the kernel to not save changes to the partition (it doesn't want to write a corrupted partition to disk), in other words a r/w /system is useless, even when you can finally write to it, 3) using dirty cow on the most attractive programs (from a permissions perspective) causes "little" problems like the screen going off.
I've been monitoring another XDA thread (sorry, link is at home) where they are working through these issues on another device. There are various approaches and workarounds, but they currently all involve way more risk than I can justify for a $500 phone.
AIUI, once you've got root, you need to be able to put selinux into permissive mode, but surely getting temp root is a start?
Can you not install systemless root?
If I got the dates right, the phone kernel should be affected by this bug. A proof of concept seemed to be promised by the reporter in the next few days. http://seclists.org/oss-sec/2016/q4/607
Will be interesting to see how it compares to dirty cow as far as access.

Please note that the phone is 64-bit. This is source code that requires compilation and additional code to do anything useful. Prerequisites include the NDK and related build tools installed via Android Studio. I run Linux so it was relatively painless, but I imagine it might be more of a challenge under Windows.

Hi. I know this thread is about the Lenovo Phab2 Pro and I have the Lenovo Phab2 but maybe someone can help me. I tried what was suggested on this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/phab-2/how-to/how-to-root-phab-2-pb2-650y-t3524305 But it seems I screwed up and now the phone gets stuck in the Lenovo sign. I'd really appreciate some help since I just bought this phone 2 days ago and now I can't use it. I can access TWRP but it seems there's nothing in /system. I think maybe that's the problem. I'm no expert but since I had rooted and downgraded and upgraded firmware several times on my previous phone, a LG G3. I thought maybe I could do this. I shouldn't have If someone can help me I'd really appreciate. Thanks in advance.
I was able to fix this. Sorry to have bothered.
Hi,
I've been able to get proper root access on this phone. One new problem I am facing is that the tango camera and sensors doesn't seem to work. Normal camera works just fine.
Is this related to the rooting or can it be anything else entirely?
Edit: Never mind. I was able to fix it without having to remove the root. Apparently 'Tango Core' didn't have permissions to access camera. I am not sure how that got reset. So I gave access to it and now it works just fine.

Unfortunately this device will likely be locked just like the J327T.
I have been watching that thread and everything that has been tried is pretty much what I attempted to explain would be a waste of time.
The combination firmware is useless to gain root on nougat.
No auto root is ever gonna work either and neither is Flashfire or SuperSU.
There is a list of reasons why these things won't work, but I'll not waste my time in that thread explaining why.
I don't mind explaining further why here. Just so others will not waste efforts like on the J327T thread.
I'll let that thread run its course until all avenues have reached their inevitable dead ends.
They are harsh words, but unfortunately they are truth.
Suffice to say that the only real way for this device to see root is either an unlocked bootloader (highly unlikely), a proper engineering binary or an exploit is released for Android 7.
If an exploit is found then Kingroot will almost certainly incorporate it in their Software and then there maybe a chance that the combination binary (not the whole firmware) will help get root.
If anyone can confirm for sure this device doesn't have a locked bootloader then I'd be happy to work on it.

J727T/1 Recovery/Root (SS SafeStrap)???

IF I remember right, it was used for the S4 or S5 att, with same issue. It would set up recovery after bootloader, or something like that. I'm no noon, but not a senior either.
Just a suggestion??
Would be great if someone could implement it to work??

I've been diving into that issue, haven't figured it out yet. But I'm sure it won't be long.
Hey,
Just bought a G5 RS988 and am struggling to find a good guide for bootloader unlock. I know that's not quite what this thread is about, but I'm sure many others will look for it here. Anyone able to give me a link? Or, if you'd rather, pm me and I'll delete this post if you feel it doesn't fit.
Thanks!
Edit:
Nevermind. Found a generic one here that worked: http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0702
Where are you getting TWRP from? All I can find is this as it's not on the TWRP site: https://build.nethunter.com/test-builds/twrp/lge/twrp-3.0.2-1-rs988.img
Also, is this a good thread to use for rooting? https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/root-rooting-rs988-t3580660
I'm struggling to find promising answers to any of my searches, and there certainly isn't a thread that contains a valid list of all these useful tidbits.

The links you have will work ok... There is no official TWRP yet that I am aware of just as there are no official ROMs (that I know of) there are however unofficial Lineage and Paranoid Android ROMs, and unofficial TWRP
There is a tool from LG that will preform bootloader unlock
I hope this helps

Last time I'm gonna post here til I make an official release. Here is tonight's build, screen tearing is fixed and I've been starting to upstream the kernel to the latest and start adding my tweaks to it.
MUST BE BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED AND TWRP INSTALLED

Thank you for all your doing for the RS988 when I made this post I honestly didn't think anyone would care. I thank you for what you are doing and I can't wait until we have official ROMs and TWRP for the RS988

Question to y'all,
I'm trying to gain init.d script support. Tried the universal init.d app, but if force closes every time I open it. Is there anything flashable that would grant init.d support?
Thanks!

I could not find the
GSI "Starter Pack" (From Google) from this link.
Could you please be more specific and tell us which GSI will work (Android 12, 11, or 10, and ARM64+GMS, ARM64, x86_64+GMS, or x86_64.). Thanks.
I want to unlock my bootloader and root my 3 iii but I have read something about needing to back up and restore DRM keys otherweise some camera features and other stuff wont work anymore. Is that something that needs to be done on this phone and also, what exactly is the GSI stuff? It looks like that is an entire rom or something. Do we need to flash/install that? I am fine with the stock firmware. Im out of my element with this Sony stuff.

Hey, the "Starter Pack" is just another Name for the Google Zip which includes GSI and vbmeta. We are on ARM64 and GMS means GApps are included. Please read a bit about how Treble and GSIs are working and start from there. x86_64 btw. is the Dekstop Platform (Like Intel or AMD PCs). Basic knowledge
Don't want to make this an Info/Wiki Thread or so...

That Informations are old and obsolete. Hardware works just fine after unlocking (On all Xperias since 2019), DRMs can be restored like i wrote in the Guide. We are using OLED HDR Displays. So don't care about Bravia or such stuff. Only Netflix and Video Enhancements aside from the Creator Mode are not working if unlocked. But AOSP is here and ROMs are also coming based on SODP and AOSP (With Mainline Kernels (Or GKI)) Please also read about Treble and GSIs before You start! It's a thing since Android 8 on all Android Devices. So it will be good to know! GKIs are also coming to all Android Devices soon...
How can I convert Xperia 1 IIi Docomo SO-51b to Global version?
You can try to use another (EU/US) Firmware with NewFlasher but no warranty that it will work @nchmaster
You should check the Basebands compatibility before so make sure You're flashing a Firmware that works with Your Countries Bands.

No it isn't. That's why I am asking. I got my Xperia 1 iii a few weeks ago (before this tutorial) and did the exact same steps but without the GSI thing and everything works fine.

Perfect. I tried to ask that before and was just told to read up on GSI. That wasnt any real help to my question. lol I was looking it over and it looked like it was a really vanilla version of android more less for app developers so I was c onfused if it was in fact needed to simply root the phone.

I asked what it was exactly and do we need to install it for the root process. By the way, it is not needed for the rooting process. I have successfully rooted the phone so thank you for the tutorial.
Just a suggestion, you should maybe add that after you flash the edited boot image to A and B and you reboot the phone, you will have to reinstall Magisk just to save some possible confusion as its no longer installed from being wiped during the bootloader unlock process.

Hi sorry I'm still confused, could you copy over name of the exact zip you are saying we should download?

Which one is the "starter" pack.

The "starter" pack is just another name for either gsi_gms_arm64-...zip or aosp_arm64-...zip. If you want Google apps then you choose gsi_gms_arm64-...zip, if you do not want Google apps then choose aosp_arm64-...zip. Both of these zip files contain only the system.img and vbmeta.img.

Sorry I guess I'm a bit new to this, the phone will still be running a version of the stock rom after this guide with an unlocked bootloader and magisk right?

GSI means General System Image. Systems are the Main OS You are using. Flash a GSI and it isn't Stock anymore... Don't replace the System If You want to keep Stock!
