Question Snapdragon Sound on pixel 6? - Google Pixel 6

Qualcomm has been very cloak & dagger about different versions of aptX adaptive, and aptX voice, and aptX lossless.
My main interest is aptX voice support. Since the google Tensor chip isn't a QUALCOMM thing, there's no official support for "snapdragon sound".
Does anyone know if someone can rip snapdragon sound from another device and put it on a pixel 6 with a custom rom?

see here
Does the Pixel 6 Pro include aptX, aptX HD, LDAC? Specs page is silent - Google Pixel Community
aptx is supported on the pixel so what you're asking should work, as long as you're using a compatible audio device

As already pointed out, Pixel 6 supports QCOM's aptX, aptX HD audio codecs. You couldn't "rip" support for additional codecs anyway, they are hardware dependent and rely on proprietary vendor binaries. No support for aptX Adaptive or Low Latency afaik.

THis is a complicated question to answer "it depends".
HOwever, the product known as aptx-LL is not usually available with OS native bluetooth stacks, it's implemented usually with USB dongles that the computer or phone sees as a generic usb audio device. Thus, aptx-LL is vaporware without the use of a dongle.
Presumably the long term goal is for that to eventually be replaced by aptx Adaptive, which combines some of the LL & HD features to some extent. Unfortunately, it's become impossible to know which "Versions" of aptx adaptive are supported by various phones and headphones, because qualcomm's "snapdragon sound" certification is confusing to end users. Presumably, most devices support aptX adaptive, but it's really hard to figure out if a device supports aptX Voice (most don't), AptX TWS+ (most do?) and Aptx Lossless (still too new) which are all part of the "snapdragon sound" umbrella

I've just been through all this trying to find a device that supports Snapdragon Sound, as I review earbuds and need to ensure I am able to give them their best opportunity with supporting services.
Aptx-adaptive is quite commonplace now with most earbuds using the Qualcomm QCC3040 and QCC3046 chipsets, which covers many new releases from Soundpeats and Earfun to KZ, offering this codec as an option. Snapdragon Sound is a marketing term encompassing 96k Aptx-Adaptive and 32k Aptx-Voice, and very few products support it (QCY T18, Edifier NeoBuds S and Lollipods, etc.)
Whilst most 2021 Snapdragon phones support aptx-adaptive, I believe the only devices that support the three Snapdragon Sound codecs are those with Snapdragon 888 and higher processors.
I tried my Snapdragon Sound-capable earbuds on a few other devices and was able to get aptx-adaptive working but had some issues getting consistent 48k.
I ended up settling on the (otherwise awful) Xiaomi 11T Pro as the only others that supported the codecs at the time were Moto devices mostly only available in the U.S. I agree it is confusing and not particularly user friendly - there is no indication you're getting the desired codec, you have to dig around a fair bit to see what you're actually using. It's not even as easy as selecting LDAC or LHDC - seems like hi resolution sound is very much an afterthought.

can i say its killing me there aint no dolby atmos (the soundfx version, not the decoder version)
trying wavelet, but there are drop outs, im troubleshooting it
im hedging my bets, bt 5.2 etc will over take at some point with features

How to find out what A2DP codecs are available on my devices?

Hi, I am not sure which forum to ask this question. I am on the market for a new and hopefully better set of Bluetooth speakers to replace the cheap one I have. I understand that there are a number of audio codecs used for Bluetooth stereo but not all Android sources and Speakers support the most sophisticate codecs. Some may only support the minimum subband coding. So, before I spend the money, I like to know if there is an easy way to find out (ie. via an APP on Android) if my phone and the new speaker I intend to buy have the capability to use AAC.

LDAC Bluetooth audio?

I thought I read somewhere that the M5 supports LDAC Bluetooth audio. I don't see it in the developer options Bluetooth codecs. And it doesn't work with my Sony AVR that supports LDAC. Any ideas?
I doubt it has the LDAC support. WH-1000XM2 headphones which are LDAC compatible can connect to M5 with aptX HD at best.
This site claims it has it, https://www.bluetoothcheck.com/d/huawei-mediapad-m5-8
Also ldac is baked into Oreo aosp, manufacturers only have to add it to their variants of oreo. So far, however, it seems the M5 doesn't have it.
I think they made a simple assumption that every oreo build has it implemented.

[Q] Dolby Atmos - Anyone using this on their V30?

I know about the DTS surround capabilities that LG added to the newer firmware for the V30 (still running stock Oreo here but it's rooted with Magisk), and I've been doing research into Dolby Atmos which I know is available as a port for Oreo as well.
I'm curious to know if anyone else has attempted to get it installed or they were successful and what they think of it in actual use with perhaps movie playback (local on the device or streamed with Netflix/etc).
I know it's not going to really do much for me overall but since I do tend to do almost all my audio monitoring with smartphones by wearing headphones (Sony V6, Koss PortaPros and KSC-75 earclips, Monoprice 9927 IEMs which are amazing for the $8 I paid for 'em, etc) I'm still interested in seeing if there's anything actually going on in terms of watching movies and noticing some actual "surround" like effects instead of the simple pure 2-channel stereo playback aspects.
If anyone has any experience with installing that Dolby Atmos port on their V30 - regardless of the ROM but I presume it's got to be at least Android 8.0 Oreo based - I'd love to hear...errr... read your opinions.
Thanks...

Don't mean to hijack your thread but since you mentioned DTS surround sound... I can't remember whether you used the US998 TWRP-flashable zip or you clean flashed from latest KDZ. Just want to make sure you do indeed have the DTS interface in your Settings/Sound section. Most of the recent TWRP-flashable zips already have it enabled, but if you clean flash from stock KDZ you'll have to do it yourself (even if you have root).
Also did you install the Anxious V30 module yet? That definitely enables DTS, as well as installs the DTS Equalizer, and gives you dual speaker mode and improved stock camera (from G7/V40).
Yes, I have the extended menu in the Sound settings, and yes enabling the DTS does offer some noticeable alteration in the sound stage when listening, but it ain't Dolby Atmos obviously and it's not really a DTS surround type decoder capability. I suppose when I said "DTS surround" I pooched it from the gitgo 'cause it ain't actually doing any surround decode actions, just altering the sound stage from what I can hear which isn't the same thing (at least to me, obviously).
And yes, I installed the DTS equalizer separately, I haven't bothered with that Anxious module because it doesn't interest me.
I've heard so many good things about Dolby Atmos for Headphones (pun very much intended) but to this day I still have not actually heard any device with that working properly. My laptop has a decent Realtek HD audio chip in it (ThinkPad W540), and with the latest drivers, and of course there's the Dolby Atmos for Headphones app on the Microsoft Store which offers a 14 day trial but I've attempted multiple times to get that damned thing to work and it just never does. I don't know what the issue is, but there are nothing but complaints about that on Windows 10 and out of thousands of complaints I've seen like 3 people say they got it working properly.
So while I don't have an issue forking over $15 for some decent surround audio processing that is cool and makes things on my laptop - or my phone, doesn't matter - actually more interesting (note I'm careful not to say something stupid like "make it sound better"), I'm not going to pay for some add-on or software that doesn't actually work at all even if they do offer a refund because of issues getting it functional.
So this Dolby Atmos for Oreo is something I'm definitely interesting in attempting to get functional. I know there is technically a DTS X for Headphones but the DTS support in LG's firmware is *not* that so yes, I'm still wondering about the Dolby Atmos potential.
But thanks for the response just the same. I still haven't attempted to get Lineage on my V30 yet because the instructions I found for the H931 converted model are not quite as clear as I like so, I'll be waiting till someone responds to the post/question I asked in that other thread related to that particular aspect. I do want to see how Lineage runs on this V30, however, so at some point I presume I'll figure it out.

Dolby Atmos is crapware. If the device comes with it, then yes it works. People claim that they can port it but that's a load of BS. The same BS claims the A.R.I.S.E team used to make with their mods.
A Dev that makes a popular sound mod actually looked into this stuff. Only 1 guy has ever ported Dolby Atmos and he stopped doing it for some reason. So any Dolby Atmos mod that you see right now is 99% not actually working.
I say 99% because who knows, that 1 guy who successfully did it, might come out of retirement. Even the A.R.I.S.E team recognize that only he can do it.

It's software, it's not a hardware capability, so I can't comprehend why it's so difficult to actually get it to work on most any devices, especially those with much higher quality DACs with vastly more capabilities than just 16-bit 44.1 kHz output stuff, oh well.
I mean, I'm still pissed this laptop issue of mine is the same basically: it just never works and I don't know why because it's literally done through software on pretty much any device except a serious piece of hardware like a 5.1/7.1/9.1/10.1/etc home theater audio amp/receiver/etc. I suppose I should just be content knowing that I can still hear anything at all given I'm getting older by the day.
Guess we'll see what happens...

Yes, while it is SW, you still need the framework.

You can always pick up a cheap used Axon 7. Has a quad dac with Dolby Atmos.
Trust me, even the Dev that "successfully ported Dolby Atmos" , sounds like crap compared to a device that comes with it natively.
That's why I'm skeptical about how successful he was in porting it.
I also want to point out that even CyanogenMod Inc had it's own audio software that was never able to be ported into CyanogenMod. Devs tried to, never worked.
Sent from my LG-H932 using XDA Labs
Yes, I understand all of that and much more, and this was never meant to be a make-it-or-break-it thing, just an interest in seeing what all the fuss is about and whether or not Dolby Atmos for Headphones can actually give me any "surround" experience at all. Been listening to most every audio technology that's come into existence since the early 1970s, and nothing except one particular file - the infamous binaural recording done years ago by David Chesky know as "Dr. Chesky's Shave" - ever gave me any actually noticeable sense of audio coming from someplace other than directly left or right with headphones on.
Hell, I've even attempted to use those funky "5.1" and "7.1" headphones that have multiple drivers in them meant to produce sound from positions in front, behind, and above and below the ear canal, nothing but gimmicks as expected.
But Dolby wouldn't be doing so much research into that stuff for headphones if there wasn't something driving it (pun very much intended) so I'm interested, that's all.
Thanks for the responses...

lack of apt-x hd got you down?

so far i'm really liking this phone. however, there are a couple things i wish were a little different:
1) i wish it had a dedicated, not-behind-the-screen fingerprint sensor (one thing my old LG did right).
2) i wish it supported apt-x hd for use with my (non-sony) wireless headphones.
so, i went looking for a solution to #2. for now, it appears that samsung just doesn't support apt-x hd-- and future official support is looking somewhere between doubtful and hopeless. additionally, i have a us version; my bootloader is locked and there does not appear to be a feasible software solution to the problem without root.
however, i stumbled onto this: creative bt-w3. i ordered it today and most likely won't have my hands on it for another week, buti wanted to make this post to:
--let people know about this possible solution to a vexing problem
--solicit any feedback or reviews, in case someone has already received one.
thanks for reading.
Vexing? This is vexing?
I just use LDAC, it's better than APT-X HD...
The Note9 when came out with Oreo, it had AptXHD then it was removed with Android Pie.
Now, after complaining, they out back AptX yet no HD support or HiRes audio support.
Seems Samsung is all about gimmicks but not audio.
The Dolby Atmos is crap if someone wants to defend them, try the Dolby Atmos on a Xbox One, then try the Samsung version and it's just an equalizer setting.
I'm currently saving for the Xperia phone, I'm done with Samsung.
Hey zagtastic, did you get this creative device working on your phone? I'm curious if it did in fact work for you. I'm looking into getting an S20 5G and was surprised by the lack of aptx-hd support on the specs.

If memory serves me correctly it's not; AptX-HD has better overall audio qualities. LDAC is the next best.
Even rooting won't give you AptX-HD; all these latter generation Samsung's lack the hardware support for this codec.

Bump, so does this thing work on a Samsung?
My Soundpeats TrueAir 2 buds sound bloody awesome with Dolby on but also running Poweramp. If anything they sound better than they were on my Mi10T Pro that has Apt-x built in.

No. whats vexing is buying the Note 20 Ultra 5G "unlocked" from Best Buy at $1300 only to realize it is still impossible to unlock the bootloader despite "right to repair". I will never buy another Galaxy or any other overpriced, overgoverned Samdung product. I should have bought another OnePlus. The lack of Apt-X is irritating but not a problem Id call "vexing" when there are so many other complaints that dwarf it.
Any Bluetooth codec will never be as good as a wired set of headphones anyway, UAPP or Poweramp output to 1 More or Similar in ears will sound a lot better, (inexpensively)

LDAC streams at a max of 990kbps, translating to a sample rate of 96kHz and a bit depth of 24 bits while APTXhd stops at 48 kHz.
So LDAC is the top one followed by APTXhd

If you bt device doesn't support LDAC but its a Samsung bt that supports SCC that's probably the next best choice.
APTX HD is off the table useless it's hardware supported to begin with. Samsung does not support it.

Question Aptx HD connection problem in redmi note 10

Hi! I bought this BT receiver
( BDT 2,176.31 30%OFF | Xu21 Bluetooth 5.0 Transmitter Receiver Supporting Dual-stream APTX HD BT Audio Music Wireless USB Adapter Safe and Reliable
https://a.aliexpress.com/_ms4Qydp )
I cannot connect to aptx hd on this BT receiver using my redmi note 10. It always connects to aptx. I tried to connect the receiver with redmi note 9s/pro. It was connected to aptx hd without any hassle. The problem is with redmi note 10. Anyone using aptx hd on redmi note 10 using any adapter? I tried to select aptx hd in the BT codec option under developer options. But I cannot connect to aptx hd, rather it connects to aptx. How to connect to aptx hd using redmi note 10?
Yes..
Same issue..
Tried couple of Custom ROMs for that option.
One of the guy said It's working in EvolX ROM, but after flashing and using the ROM for a week I found no codec.
I was able to use aptX codec after flashing the module...
Conclusion:
I think the device has default support for SBC codec only.

I am in the same boat. Recently got a FiiO BTR5, which supports almost all codecs under the sun. But the phone only does SBC, AAC and AptX. No way to get either AptX HD or LDAC to get to work. I used my old phone (G7 thinQ) and both LDAC and AptX-HD work flawlessly, so the issue is definitely with the Redmi Note 10.
It's a shame since LDAC/AptX-HD sound a lot better with my audio setup. Although AptX does come close too. Hope they fix it in an update.

Its a shame that xiaomi claims note 10 to have high resolution audio. The dual speakers sound crispy though, but why wouldn't it support aptx hd! If you get a solution let me know. Thanks.

Hi!
Do you feel any notable difference between aptx and aptx hd?
Same problem here. Bought Philips Fidelio L3 headphones which support AptX HD. Once the developers mode is enabled, I can see AptX HD in the list of possible codecs, but I can't force the phone to use it. AptX works.
My son's phone automatically uses AptX HD to connect to these headphones, so the problem is definitely in Redmi Note 10. I do hope that it#s a software problem and that this problem will be fixed with some future firmware update ... Does Xiaomi have some support I could ask about this (where?)? Has anyone managed to make AptX HD work with this phone in the meantime?
U can try with this magisk module https://github[.]com/multiwirth/aptx-HD-magisk
Hi, try that :
[Module] aptx (HD) for Android 12/11/10/9/8 LineageOS 18.1/19.0
Hi there, This is a magisk module compatible with any android device (except x86) running at least android oreo up to latest and greatest Android 11! It was tested on lineage based roms but should work on all AOSP and some stock roms just fine...
forum.xda-developers.com
It worcked for me on linageos 18.1 gsi but there isn't any aptx adaptive. I'm gona try to edit the vendor partition soon.
