Question Main screen issues - Oppo Find N

Hi all,
I followed the instructions on here to enable the Google feed and remove the Oppo one. It works occasionally but unfortunately it seems to have had an impact on my main/home screen. Often, when I unlock the phone the screen will be blank (aside from the wallpaper). If I unfold it, the left side of the screen will be similarly blank but the right hand side will show my home screen. I have no idea what I have done or how I can get it back to normal - I have to restart to get it to work properly.
Any thoughts are welcome.
Thanks

Ditch the buggy 3rd party app... app instability shouldn't be tolerated.
I keep live feds and social media apps off my devices, security risks.

Just the feed... or trouble shoot it.

Would you know how I delete it please? Or how I trouble shoot it? As I understand it, it is just part of the Google app.

Turn it off or not use it. I use a package disabler which is how I kill a lot things I don't want running.
You can try rolling the version back to the factory load or updating it, or clearing its cache or data. Another 3rd party app could be conflicting with it.
Or it's a bug the manufacturer hasn't fixed yet.
It's possible the firmware got corrupted or the user partition (in which case a factory reset would resolve it).

I didn't enable Google feed on mine but lately when I unlock the front screen its blank. I sometimes have to lock/unlock 10 times in a room or go into settings and back out many times until my icons come back. :-(

you should reinitialize the phone. In my case it was caused by hard debloating

Had the same issue. Fixed it by uninstalling Google assistant.

Screen Overlay Issue

All,
I keep getting an error message when trying to share a contact or really change any permissions for my apps that says "turn off screen overlay in App>Settings"
There is no setting and if I go directly there from the prompt, and turn all of the apps, it still will not work. This has been happening for the past week and I can not figure this out........
I keep finding other people say to factory reset it. We had to factory reset my wifes device due to a seperate issue and it is happening to hers as well. Is this because of the most recent update or is there some way I can fix it.
Thanks,
Adari

Most likely it is Facebook Messenger that causes this. Force close it before changing permission and it should work. It's because the Chat Heads are displayed as an "overlay" over the entire screen regardless what you are doing. This somehow prevents some buttons to work specifically changing permissions and stuff.

Thanks for the help. I turned off all of the apps that had the drawing permission before. I turned them back on and left messenger off like you said. It worked great. I tried turning it back on and it started messing up again. Thanks for the solution!!

Photos getting "cleaned up / corrected?"

I use Google Photos as my default photo app. Whenever I tap something -
1. image is loaded
2. half second
3. boosted/corrected image is loaded
It's rather annoying, especially when I'm on Display > Image Quality Settings > Standard mode.
I also have Auto Creator Mode off.
Does this happen to anyone else?
Yes is happening to me, just tried. Didn't notice before because I use album app. It's really weird and annoying
Right, thanks for letting me know. It's apparently a bug in Google Photos itself. Not a phone issue.
I sent a mail to the google support, but well, it's really weird since after reinstalling the app, it does well for some times and then the bug appears out of nowhere.
Can confirm it's definitely the app. Revert back to the previous version, and the issue no longer exists.
Thanks guys, it's definitely a pain but very obvious

I just stopped the auto update and after de-activating reactivating the photo app, I didn't updated it. Bim, fixed. I don't even know what are the changes with all those updates without a proper patch note.
Update google photos has fix the bug
Sori still have that symptom

Question Assistant Crashing Every Time

Hello everybody!
Ever since I bought this phone (Pixel 6) the assistant has never worked. Considering this is a Google phone, one would assume it would work no issue but joke is firmly on me!
I have been researching and have seen mixed messages from many websites where some users have the issue, others no issue! I have seen some people say to reinstall the Google App (tried this, didn't work) and other people said to completely restore to factory which I don't want to considering the hassle of getting everything back in order.
Does anybody have anything else I might be able to try?
Thanks in advance

No the Browser should not block it.
But since you brought up the Brave Brower.
Did you disable Chrome?
I think the assist only works with Chrome. I am not a100% sure.
I am going to step aside and let someone else help. I really am just guessing at this topic.

I didn't disable it, I just never used it.
I did open it just now and tried to use the assistant with it and it didn't crash immediately. You might be on to something.
Maybe I am missing something though, if it was a browser based issue, why would that impact my ability to open say Spotify or "check the weather".
Maybe it's some other Google system/service I am after breaking?

I use Duck Duck Go browser.
I have tried the Brave browser a few months back for a short time.
Side note; I use Brave browser on my pc, because edge gives me trouble with networking for my smarthome devices and nas.
I am also having this issue after rooting and modding a few things. Reverted the changes but I am still having the issue. Updating Google App and downloading Google Assistant doesn't seem to do the trick either. Anyone with some insight into the issue know what's going on?
quick update - I installed Alexa to see if that would work, and it too doesn't appear to like me
Starting to think its a service based issue instead of a particular app.
Anybody who has guidance please chime in
Are you completely stock, no custom rom, kernel, Magisk mods?
Alexa will increase your four letter vocabulary to a new level.
Do you have the assistant set to more than 1 language? For me having the assistant set to English and dutch causes it to constantly.
I figured out for me it was dozing google play services
so, update on this. Firstly, I only have it using the one language.
Secondly, I got an update yesterday for the google app from the playstore and it appears to have fixed whatever the problem was!

Question Spy/malware removal

Is there any kind that actually works? I keep fishing around on Google play and everything is either old, doesn't work, or is full of sh*t, or a combination of all 3.
Welcome to XDA
If you're running Android 9 or higher simply do a factory reset. There are no known rootkits that can worm out of the user partition, once that data is wiped so is the malware.
Don't reload it again after the factory reset.

Which would be how? Would I need a app or something for the pc? And if so do you have any recommendations? I have the mixsilver file manager on my phone (pixel 6 "Not pro"). Would there be a way I could find it thru there? Also my device is not rooted. So would I need to root? I'm sorry if this gets on your nerves. If so tell me, won't hurt my feelings. I'm literally a noob at this stuff. I've been trying to teach myself and just do trial and error but im getting in over my head and don't wanna accidentally brick my phone or worse.
What makes you sure you have spy/malware? Or do you mean adware?
Cheers

With Avast or AVG Antivirus you can do a pretty good scan of your apps, even system apps if you want.
For Factory reset see here https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/4596836
or go here on a PC (you need your Pixel connected by usb to the PC then): https://pixelrepair.withgoogle.com/carrier_selection

Chrome ****tin out 3 gigs of data a day. I have unlimited so it's not that big of a deal but still.....and some of the options I had in settings like "permissions, enable/disable, clear data/cache" that I know for a fact I had not too long ago are now greyed out or nonexistent. Also sometimes when I bring up "location" thru the settings menu everything is supposed to be "off" but there's 2 or 3 that look like they are switching back to say "off" as soon as the page shows. 1 of them outright takes several seconds to display any "on or off" setting at all. I've found a "Verizon" system app on my phone, some kind of Samsung telephony thing. And it seems like I can input a change to settings or something and when I look at my phone in the morning everything I had set up is back to it's previous settings.

Just do factory reset and you are okay.. Then start using phone as new..

For what it's worth, the Verizon system app comes with the phone in case you use a Verizon sim.
If you end up clean flashing or factory resetting, I would not restore any apps from backups. I would reinstall everything fresh or you could just be putting the malware back on your phone, if that indeed is what you have.

Just redownload them. Google remembers your bought apps or subscriptions in your Google account, so as long as you use the same email/account for logging in to Playstore after Factory reset you're good.
Your contacts normally are also synced to your Google Account, so you get them back also then.

It comes with the phone by default just in case you do use Verizon. Basically that app helps give the phone Verizon support, of sorts. It's disabled by default if you don't use Verizon so there's really nothing to worry about with that app.

Question Found issue with touch screen

I just recieved the phone and transferred all from my S22U.
While browsing in Chrome I noticed that the back button on the lower right corner doesn't register touches sometimes. I have to touch the back button multiple times until it works.
Anybody else having issues with touch?
It should not be the case.
Backup data, factory reset the phone, restore data without restoring apps and settings and then check. It's time consuming but is a great way to start with a brand new phone.
Is this issue only on chrome? Or in other apps too?

Yeah, don't use SmartSwitch. Do a clean load from scratch. If you don't screw it up with upgrades/updates or buggy apps a good load can last years on an Android and remain fast/stable with minimal maintenance.
ApkExport can be used to create installable copies of your current apps so no Playstore is needed. Saves time and sanity.

I hand load everything. I use the SD card as a data drive; everything I need for a full reload is on it, then regularly and redundantly backed it up.
Current load on this N10+ will be 3 yo in June. Still runs like a bat out of hell.

adb pull /sdcard
delete Android folder and copy over everything manually to the internal storage on the folder (adb push won't push subfolders)
Set up everything else from absolute scratch.
It's annoying but this is the only way to make sure you're starting with a clean slate and that your bugs aren't caused by something from your old phone. Spending an hour or two now can save you tens of hours down the line in troubleshooting nonsense nobody else seems to be suffering from and coming to the conclusion you have to factory reset anyway.
It's a good time to clean up apps you may not use much anymore too as you'll have to install your apps manually. I usually end up losing 10-20% of the apps I had on my old phone because I realize I don't really use them.

Yes. The whole reason to do a clean load is to ensure the integrity of the load and to not reload the previous problems or malware. Letting the apps install clean is important.
I only restore data to trusted apps that allow backup and are difficult to setup from scratch... like Poweramp.
If you fail... you will live with the issues it caused until you factory reset it, again, in the worst case scenario. It's good to go through installing all the apps and configuring them at a reload as it allows you to spot previous mistakes and raises your level of awareness.

Yea I get it, like you should only backup the folders/appdata from apps you know it won't cause problems. Otherwise clean installing best option.
Today I also found out that some websites in Firefox, also have this problem in top left corner not responding. I guess it's software related, because same websites had no issues on Chrome.
