Reviewing all Galaxy J5 2015 Custom ROMs. (Will update when i'll test more.) - Samsung Galaxy J5 Guides, News, & Discussion

This is all based on personal opinions and experiences. I mean no offense to any of the developers. None of this should be taken as an insult, because it's not intended to be.
Android 5.x:
- Stock: I'll always like the simplicity in design of the older Touchwiz versions. It was nice, but it got pretty laggy after a while.
- Light Xperion:
- ColorOS: Link's broken.
- MIUI 8: Link's broken.
- MIUI 9: Link's broken.
- ADS Sony: Link's broken.
Android 6.0:
- Stock: Starts lagging so bad after around two years of use. Literally no apps installed other than the necessary ones. No games, nothing. Internal storage kept always empty. Became so laggy that the status bar took literally almost one whole second to pull down. Not really that good of an experience. The system took way too much space and didn't have that many features. Sure the theme engine was nice, but that's about it. There isn't really any point into reviewing this, but i thought it might be kinda interesting, if anyone else experienced the same issues as me.
- MIUI 8: About what you'd expect. It's MIUI. Feature packed, as usual. Sometimes laggy, as usual on a low end phone.
- MIUI 10: Graphics pack over MIUI 8. Looks nice.
- Slim6:
- ADS Asus: Link's broken, sadly. I really wanted to see how it was with all the apps i suggested adding. Should have been pretty much a full Asus experience, except the SystemUI.
- SuperROM:
Android 7.x:
- HalogenOS: Doesn't install, "E3003: Can't install this package over newer build.", which makes no sense because the phone was fully wiped. Tried many times, going from different ROMs back to this. Never worked. It looks pretty nice in the screenshots, even has some custom apps. Quite unfortunate that it doesn't install.
- Odyssey Note8: I personally don't like 3MinitBattery, never liked it. Other than that it lags quite a lot. But it's kinda expected since it's supposed to be a ROM ported from a phone with much more horsepower under the hood.
- SEP Lite: Doesn't recognize the J500F as "J500xx". Refuses to install
- SEP: I just don't get why the Lite version doesn't install. This one installed just fine. Anyway, it's just stock Touchwiz, nothing much to say about it. It runs just fine, nothing more, nothing less. I like the little touches like the Aroma installer and the amount of options are offered.
- WyckedOS: Doesn't flash. "No digest file found".
- SpaceOS: Doesn't flash. "No digest file found".
- Mokee: Doesn't boot. Artefacts. Booting forever.
- AOSP CAF: Doesn't flash. "Can't install this package over newer build".
- CosmicOS: Doesn't flash. "Can't install this package over newer build".
- Serenity: Touchiwz, just Touchwiz. Just like SEP, it's just Touchwiz. The same, but slightly different features. Like SEP, it's as fast as Touchwiz can get, which is not very fast, but it's usable.
- XOS: Doesn't flash. "No digest file found".
- XOSP: Crashes on boot. Massive graphics artefacts. Custom kernels result in bootlooping.
- Ground Zero Validus: Very slow boot compared to the rest, takes way too much time. Glance doesn't work, just shows the lockscreen directly. Doesn't even have an internet browser app installed. The home screen is a random mess. It's not really that polished. But i like that you can make the statusbar transparent with a blurred background. I get what they were doing with the grid style recents, but a more HTC-like approach would have been a lot better, since the grid style only allows 8 apps at a time to be shown, plus they change size depending on how many there are and you can't swipe them to close them, you must hit the tiny "X" button.
- Ground Zero Tesla: Boots the same as slow, but this time it's pre-rooted instead of just having Magisk there to root it yourself. Normally i would complain about it being the same, or about the fact that it's lacking Substratum unlike the other one, but i'm actually very ok with it because i like the features it has. Their custom Kernel Adiutor version supports voltage and sound control, which is a really nice feature. It even has a custom theme, which, yeah, it might hurt some eyes, but it's there at least. It's above average. I wouldn't say good, but it's not bad either and has some unique features. The presentation is messy.
- Hexagon: "No digest file found", but it's installing, maybe if i were to replace the installer script from the other ROMs with this one... Hmmm... Maybe some other time. After finishing installing, it crashed on boot just like XOSP. Graphics artefacts, display slowly fading to yellow for some reason. Doesn't reboot with other kernels, but stays on the boot screen indefinitely.
- DarkNess reDefined: Doesn't flash. "Can't install this package over newer build".
Android 8.x:
- LineageOS: First impression was great, as usual with all LineageOS ROMs. It's pretty much the base for all ROMs. it's good if you like clean and simple UIs.
- AOKP: Besides not having an "OOBE", the customization app has a rather outdated design. Also, the app installer crashes every time i tried to install anything. On the flip side, the customization app offers a wide range of options, nothing to complain about that. Can install apps with 1 Click Installer which uses root, or (i haven't tested) with Lucky Patcher.
- Toxyc: The customization was very complex, but it didn't even have an internet browser pre-installed and the messaging app kept crashing over and over again. Unusable, because it doesn't have basic functionalities like text messaging. Another unfortunate one, because the performance was also good.
- ViperOS: I don't have anything to say about it. Good customization app. Nothing more, nothing less. Good performance, almost wanted to stay on this ROM.
- dotOS: Didn't boot at first surprisingly. Got locked up at the Samsung logo. But the issue was the kernel. After i flashed Jet Cooled Kernel it booted right up. After boot, i was met with a really nice UI, a very mature and modern looking customization app and overall no bugs whatsoever. In conclusion, broken kernel, but good performance and stability with any other kernel.
- Ressurection Remix: As expected, it has every possible customization option there could possibly be. You can even customize the customization app. It's just mindblowing.
- Tipsy: Not only the home button doesn't wake the screen, it also has barely any customization and the home screen you're greeted with is quite messy. The theme engine only themes the settings app and the pre-installed Kernel Adiutor, not even the statusbar/QS. You can't even reprogram the keys from the customization app, like you can do on all the other ROMs, to some degree. Too bad the Tipsy theme was kinda cool, black with glowing yellow accents. Even has doze settings, something that the other ROMs don't have. Could have been a lot better, the 3rd unfortunate one.
- crDroid: Link's broken.
- Ground Zero Validus: Link's broken.
- LineageOS GO: Link's broken.
Common 8.x issues: Searching for locations in the weather provider app doesn't work.
Android 9.x:
- eOS: What a gorgeous ROM. Probably my favourie so far. Doesn't have lots of customization, compared to the other ROMs, but the whole UI is already custom. Good performance, very stable.
- LineageOS: About what you would expect from LineageOS. A perfect base ROM. Everything works. Doesn't really do much, but it's perfectly fine. Customizable buttons and LiveDisplay are the main extra features over basic AOSP, which are more than welcome.
- LineageOS GO: Link's broken.
- AOSPExtended: This was, like, GOOD good. I think this might have broken through RessurectionRemix's level of customization. The UI is smooth and responsive, probably the best i've seen so far. The pre-installed themes are really nice. The camera, omg... This phone can actually take good photos, it's incredible. It actually acts like a 16MP camera, the photos taken in daylight are so detailed. The amount of options in that camera app is outstanding, and you can even turn off denoise completely. The only bug i encountered was after flashing Magisk, the wallpaper broke completely. It defaulted to the original AEX one, couldn't change it in any way. After saving a wallpaper and going to /data/system/users/0, the actual wallpaper was the one i set, but the one showed was the default one. Something broke hard, i have no idea how or what. You have to change the wallpaper manually from where the current wallpaper is actually stored, but that means no Live Wallpapers. Installing an app also breaks the ROM, because the install screen replaces the home screen, and uninstalling an app causes the same effect. Needs a restart after installing any app. (Not affected by Google Play install/uninstall, only when manually installing .apk files.). I personally can get over all these bugs, because the battery life is amazing, the performance is probably the best out of all ROMs and it has the customization features i want. I kept this ROM as my main one.
- EvolutionX: Link's broken.
- Kraken Project: Link's broken.
- Ressurection Remix: Link's broken.
- Carbon: Doesn't flash. "No digest file found".
- Pixel Experience: Pixel ROM, nothing exciting. Doesn't have customization, doesn't have anything. It's about what you'd expect, it's just stock Pixel UI. One thing i have to complain is that the camera performance is extremely bad and i find it very wery weird that out of all the ROMs, this one doesn't have GCam.
- Bootleggers Shishufied: Doesn't have bugs. Runs fine. Has good customization. It doesn't really stand out in any way.
Android 10.x:
- AncientOS: First of all, wow, how animated everything is. I don't know if i should say it's obnoxious or cute, but i guess it's a bit of both. Nonetheless, i don't mind the animations. I like that it features an AOD, great UI customization and a variety of non-AOSP system apps. Two of the surprising features are Dirac Audio and double tap to sleep/wake. It's actually good. Besides a slight problem with the animation when going out of the AOD mode, i don't see any issues. Overall a fun ROM suitable for daily use.
- crDroid:
- Xtended XQ: I don't like being so negative about stuff, but there are too many problems not to talk about them. First of all, there is no Settings shortcut on QS panel, which i find really weird. If you change anything in the QS, the edit button just shoots offscreen, being unable to change the QS icons without "catching" the editor button while the QS are closing, or changing the DPI to some very high amount. The AOD settings crash the settings app and you're unable to change the AOD style, position, color, font, or anything else. The AOD text function is broken, but at least the image one works, yay... You'd better get used to screen burns, because the AOD is actualy, as literal as it can get, always on, no way to change it, enable a wave function or just turn it off completely. The transparent theme is buggy at best, The colors of the QS, even if you change them to accent color, they are still changing when you extend the QS panel. Yeah, that's about it. It's not that great. At least in terms of performance it was one of the quickest to boot and app opening times were very short.
- Corvus: Imo, the quotes app is really cringe. More or less the same as AncientOS, minus the animations and the fun UI. And mostly stock apps too. Mixed feelings about this one. Average at best.
- Bootleggers Unshishufied: It's nice. Runs well. Doesn't have that much of a custom UI, but i like that it includes non-stock apps, a custom theme from "out of the box" and many customization features. I don't like that LiveDisplay doesn't work. But, yeah, it's fine. I just don't get why the other version doesn't work. Oh, and it doesn't have a camera app.
- Bootleggers Shishufied: Doesn't flash. "No digest file found".
- Bliss: By far the best Andorid 10 custom ROM i've tried so far. it has all the customization features i want and even more. The performance is very good, you don't even notice it's an 8 year old phone. Besides a few weird bugs, like not being able to change the wallpaper (also an issue on AOSP Extended) and not being able to disable the AOD, it's overall very stable and functional. I also like that the UI has that extra something, that little bonus touch to stand out from the rest.
- ArrowOS: Link's broken.
- HavocOS: Link's broken.
- RevengeOS: Link's broken.
Android 11.x:
- LineageOS: Tried an earlier build, everything was broken (internal storage not recognized, not saving photos or screenshots, SIM didn't work, SystemUI crashes and other things. That day i wrote "Imagine that everything is broken, but then you dropped your phone on the floor and accidentally set it on fire afterwards. That's how this build of LineageOS feels.", which i think it's absolutely hilarious. But, yeah, now it's fine. Everybody says the bugs have been fixed and it's good for daily use. I may or may not test it again at some point.
Android 12.x:
- LineageOS:
Android 13.x:
- LineageOS: I mean... It works just fine. It doesn't help that the UI looks really bad on Andorid 13. That new quick toggle bar is just useless. So few toggles in view. Just doesn't make sense. As for bugs, only the Gcam Go app doesn't adjust exposure. But that's just an app, it doesn't really count as a bug. Surprised to see that it comes with Dolby. I wanted to enable stereo speakers, but i simply couldn't figure out the mixer_paths.xml. And the ultra dim display toggle is an S-Tier feature, especially because it doesn't seem to apply a filter, but actually tune the brightness. Double tap to wake/sleep is also a feature i wouldn't have expected to see.
Common issues on ALL ROMs: The "INSTALL_FAILED_NO_MATCHING_ABIS: Failed to extract native libraries, res=-113" issue occured on all ROMs. Can't install any 64-bit apps.
If anyone has a link or backup of the ROMs i couldn't download because the links were broken, please help me by providing a link. Thank you in advance.

Favourite ROMs so far:
1. AOSPExtended
2. Bliss
Number of ROMs tested:

Didn't boot: 9

Oh, sorry for not replying. XDA didn't send me a notification for this. But thanks for the reupload. When i'll have all the ROMs, i'll upload a giga archive of all of them. Just didn't have time lately to test more of them.

By any chance, do you have any of the ADS Roms? ADS Asus, ADS Sony, etc?

What Do You Want To See In A ROM?

Hi,
I'm curious what features all of you use in ROMs or what optimisations you would like to see (CAF, a custom toolchain, etc...). This just crossed through my head while I was working on MR and a project that I will release soon. Do you guys use Xposed, do you use a custom launcher, what features do you use in other ROMs, do you use a specific DPI that you feel is more optimal, do you like custom branding or do you like the stock (if the former, feel free to make some. I'm not good with that stuff), what should I name it (I was thinking something Star Wars related), is there a custom kernel you'd like to see, do you use a custom HAL, do you use the stock dialer and messenger, etc...
This will be a long term project with no release date that will be concrete. Hopefully you guys will provide me with feedback. It will be specifically for the X as I have no plans of switching devices for a long time.
Here's another thing too. I'm doing this to teach myself. I think I brought it up once before, but I will make stupid mistakes and I hope a few of you can help me with it. I really do appreciate it. The main goal is for me to familarize myself with the device tree and with Git while providing you guys with a solid ROM
Thanks guys,
RJ

Hey,
for me are the importants things:
-layers or cm Theme
-customizable status bar
-switch back and recent
-make status bar invisible (fullscreen/immersive mode)
I use stock dialer/messenger and so on, snapdragon camera and also xposed for some tweaking. I use a custom kernel if my rom is not fast enough for me and the custom HAL with 4k recording too.
I hope this helped you,
regards from the "bad-english-speaker"
Good post, (p.s i hate star wars themed roms) pls no
auto brightness button on pull down bar
some apps like sony apps or something (so it's different to all the rest)
Well, stability and battery life conquers all. So to be precise , I like oos with dark theme and yeah custom kernel . I wish I could use Sultan's fix for camera but with that I can't use manual mode. Most of the features of cm can be added through gravitybox . Nova launcher is quite good and smooth, so I would suggest not to put much effort on launcher customization.
I see that you have taken a lot of interest in Kernel optimization and tweaking, so may be that's where you should start. Wish you luck for your projects.
Interesting thread, personally, as long as the rim has these, I'm happy :
Buttons configuration (especially hardware ones) with double and long press actions.
Layers (or cmte, but I've read layers are lighter?) in order to have a nice dark ui.
Ram bar and close button on récents.
There are so many other things that can be useful like use volume rocker to answer call, flip phone to mute call, switch to 2g when connected to Wi-Fi, enable max brightness (with custom kernel) for few minutes when in sunlight, ambient display but not during night (I hate my phone to light up in the night if I try to reach a water bottle or a kleenex lol) or gestures like swipe up on screen of to turn on and unlock the phone.
But most of these things are possible using Tasker.
But if you ask me, there are so many different (and not so different) roms out there, that I think to get glory, a new one would maybe need some awesome exclusive apps like SMS, camera, or maybe just good optimizations.
The less features in a ROM - the more stable it is. That's why I prefer Stock or CM Stock ROMs. But, anyway, the most useful features in my opinion is:
1. Playback Control (Prev/Next track with Volume buttons) - any ROM without it is almost unusable for me. Taking the phone out of the pocket each time you want to skip a track is just unbearable.
2. Double-tap to sleep - if dt2w is present, than this is a must-have feature. Peaking at the phone without even touching the power button is quite useful sometimes.
3. Viper4Android - Yes, I understand that this is a completely opt-in feature but I found myself installing it every time on every phone. The sound is just not right without it anymore.
4. STOCK Dark Theme - for some reason, every other "dark" theme developer out there thinks that theming Phone, Google Play, Messenger and other apps is cool. No, its not and its usually a weak point of any theme, because when the app gets updated everything goes to hell. I will make my own dark theme someday in a spare time. Probably based on OOS theme, because this one was actually cool. At least Android N will deliver it built-in.
Would love to see EAP-SIM authentication for WiFi in a ROM. I've tried a few and some seem to support it but I always get an "authentication error" when I try to connect. (Living in Singapore and trying to connect to SingTel WiFi, if that's any help!) So yeah, EAP-SIM support would be awesome to see in a ROM. Thanks!
And all the best for AOKParadox!

See my AOKParadox thread. I will implement the stock dark theme at least until one based off of OOS becomes available.
All I want to see in a ROM is its ease of operation and to easily see the important details.
1. Status Bar - Accurate Network Speed Indicator, Dual Clock (timezone), Date (with day of the week) & Gestures such as double tap, slide and quickpulldown
2. Hardkeys & Tristate Keys - Action Assignment (screen off, screenshot, power menu, kill all apps, last app, etc.), Single Tap, Double Tap & Long Press
3. Lockscreen - Disable Power Menu
4. When Screen is Off - Double tap to wake & Music Controls gestures
5. Others - One-handed Keyboard Operation (i'm a lefty), Ram Usage Status in recent apps

I would agree with this, along with Layers support and multi-window functionality from Android N previews since we have the ram for it.

Dear LinhPhi9x94,
Thank you very much for BlurOS Release2!
Cool build !!!
Looks interesting. Is this ROM based on CM?
Can't log in to my Google account during setup, if I skip signing in it advances to the groovy blue/purple Blur logo on white background with the network speed and battery logo at top right corner but can't get past here... secret?
OK now, fourth time was the winner with a few manual reboots.
Very nice fresh look, unique.
I like it. Good job.
Does this ROM actually use 3.10 kernel?
Can we flash supersu 2.65 or above for this rom as superuser is a bit uncertain for some apps and is required to ask again and again after every reboot
Edit : supersu is working
Customization KILLS !!!
Just installed the rom via TWRP 3.0.2. The following are my comments:
♦ The customization is simply awesome *Almost every customization from every kind of rom out there is present inbuilt* Awesome work by the BlurOs team ! (P.S I love lockscreen blur, its present)
* The default wallpaper sucks though
* Camera : Snap Camera (better pictures than sultan's, my opinion)
* Root is inbuilt
* Performance is excellent. The off screen gestures are pretty snappy
* The gallery app is quicker than most
* Battery life will be updated in a day or two
* Addictive Rom ! Do try it people !
Awesome work !! Best rom I've flashed till date !! ♥in it !!
BUG :
# The system update says there is no internet connection, even when the phone has one !

If you're a fan of how IOS looks, then this is the perfect ROM for you.
This has the CMTE theme engine installed and has a 4 pre-installed themes you can pick from, one of them is a dark theme which I'm very happy about.
I'm going to keep this ROM on my phone for a few days to see how I like it. I never thought I'd stick with a ROM that replicates the look of iOS, but it's a very interesting idea and It's very refreshing compared to all the stock looking ROMs that are available.
Also, in additition to looking so different from all the other ROMS out there, it has a ton of settings and options that most major and minor roms have, anything you can imagine really.
Edit:
Only downside i've found so far is that there's no way to disable the Capacitive Button Lights.
Edit2:
Can't seem to delete Gapps from the ROM. Un-install them through Titanium backup, but they reinstall themselves after a reboot. Anyone have any ideas?

i installed opengapps as part of the blurOS install process - my regular filters (include/exclude) and things worked well
no major issues. privacy settings, themes work well. Minor issue - phone calls sometimes cannot be picked using the circular green/red buttons and i had to swipe down the notification area to accept calls. Also, the default theme background is white + foreground text also white. Changing to another theme fixed that issue

The ROM comes with the gaps bre-baked, which is why it's so big. I was trying to delete them so I could use MicroG to immitate gapps, but not actually have any gapps on my phone. But the normal gapps kept getting reinstalled when I rebooted the phone.
I installed rom yesterday. I'm liking the customization provided. Also I feel audio output is far better than all other ROMs i tried. Thanks. I will post my battery review later

To God be the glory, my Slim7 Nougat project finally works on the Note Edge!
This is a very slimmed down version of Android Nougat, almost a "vanilla" experience with a few tasteful perks! By design, this ROM comes without root for those who wish to have a "pure" version without the entanglements that come with root, but it can also be easily rooted by using chainfire's SuperSU (see below for instructions and downloads). In it's default form, it is perfect for those banking apps, workplaces, and games that require you to have a phone without root. No need for tricks or hacks, all while having the latest and greatest Android on your Samsung Galaxy Note Edge.
If you do decide to use root, then you will be pleasently surprised to know that Substratum and layering works with this ROM. While not perfect, for the most part it functions well in my initial testing. However, if you find problems arise after installing a theme, please remove the theme to make sure it is not a substratum related issue.
**** This is an UNOFFICIAL ROM. Install at your own risk! ****
This SlimRoms Nougat ROM was built for the TBLTEXX using modified LineageOS TBLTEXX trees. I have only tried this on a TBLTETMO device, using the datazip files, but you are welcome to try it on anything AT YOUR OWN RISK. The updater script would need to be edited for something other than TBLTE, TBLTEDT, TBLTEXX, TBLTETMO, TBLTECAN. Chime in if it worked on your device.
A huge thanks to the SlimRoms Project team!
Disclaimer: SlimRoms is not responsible for any damages to your device.
All of my work is completely available for any who wish to use or modify it. I didn't make SlimRoms, the device trees, or vendor blobs. I simply used and edited existing material. A huge thanks should go to those who actually created this stuff.

Gapps link:

-Which I personally only tested Nano. Be sure to choose "Arm" and "7.1".
If you want the AKLU kernel - Better performance and battery life:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...droid-development/kernel-aklu-kernel-t3558419
Be sure to only choose the SLIM 7 version.
TBLTECAN and TBLTETMO users may use the Data Zip files here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...ment/ril-data-fixes-6-0-1-bootloader-t3546110
However, there is a TBLTETMO/TBLTECAN version of this rom in the T-Mobile thread, but I did test that this worked.
This Rom has been stable for me, however, Nougat is new, so be prepared for some little hic-ups here and there. Be sure to follow these installation steps very carefully, as they may be different then what you are used to.
!!!FIRST BOOT TAKES LONGER THAN 5 EARTH MINUTES TO COMPLETE!!!
!!!IF YOU FLASH SUPERSU, IT WILL REBOOT SEVERAL TIMES DURING INSTALL, THAT IS OKAY!!!
Installation instructions ( TO BE NON-ROOTED ) :
-YOU MUST BE ON THE 6.0.1 MODEM and BOOTLOADER!
-Download ROM, and if desired, AKLU kernel, and gapps, and put them on your phone's external storage.
-Reboot into recovery mode - TWRP (I personally installed this using 3.0.0-0).
-Backup what you had. (Just to be safe.)
-Wipe. (I personally wipe everything prior to flashing new roms, but at least do the basic wipe.)
-Install Rom.
-Install Gapps. - Optional
--> OPTIONAL - After first boot, then go back to recovery and install the AKLU kernel. (Note that without root, you cannot change the settings of the kernel, and it is a bit agressive in the default state.... I don't recommend this for non-rooted phones.)
--> OPTIONAL - TBLTETMO/TBLTECAN users can flash the data zip files after the first sucessful boot.
Installation instructions ( TO BE ROOTED ) :
-YOU MUST BE ON THE 6.0.1 MODEM and BOOTLOADER!
-Download ROM, and SuperSU, AKLU kernel, and gapps, and put them on your phone's external storage.
-Reboot into recovery mode - TWRP (I personally installed this using 3.0.0-0).
-Backup what you had. (Just to be safe.)
-Wipe. (I personally wipe everything prior to flashing new roms, but at least do the basic wipe.)
-Install Rom.
-Install Gapps -- Optional.
-Let the system boot up.
-Go back to TWRP.
-Install AKLU kernel. - Optional
-Reboot to system.
-Go back to TWRP.
-Install SuperSU.
-Let the system boot up. Note that it may reboot a couple times during the boot animation, that is okay.
--> OPTIONAL - TBLTETMO/TBLTECAN users can flash the data zip files after the first sucessful boot.
-Enjoy!
Code:
What works:
So far everything that I have tried works, such as
- Camera for video and pictures (use orange camera app, not traditional blue camera app.)
- Phone calls/receiving
- Data 2g/3g/LTE
- Bluetooth
- WiFi
- PTP/MTP
- GPS
- WiFi hotspot
- Multi-Window
- Fingerprint sensor* See notes.
etc....
What doesn't:
- Notification LED only shows RED and YELLOW. To show YELLOW, choose CYAN as the notification color, and it will show up YELLOW. All other color choices appear RED.
- The automatic time zone function forgets where you are alot. Use the manual time zone instead.
- Choosing to reboot the phone sometimes takes a loooong time. It may be better to Power off and then start the phone, which is faster for some reason.
- Built in blue camera app sometimes gets "stuck" or freezes or crashes, I tested several other camera apps, and all worked fine, including the orange camera app and opencamera from the fdroid repository.
- There is no "edge" feature at this time.
- Let me know in the forums if you find other issues.
Main Features:
- Merged with android-7.1.1_r13
- SlimDim, now with 100% more dimming
- SlimAction, Splits screen action (long press app in slim recent)
- SlimRecents, an alternative recents
- Notification log (long press statusbar header)
- Kill app from notification (long pres app notification)
- Substratum support (if rooted)
- OmniSwitcher built in so the kill function works with or without root.
- Advanced reboot (found under security settings).

Change log:
Code:
20170223
-Fixed home button screen wake.
-Fixed WiFi hotspot.
-Added texting app.
-Added OmniSwitcher as optional switcher/tasker (makes a good "edge bar" since you can pin apps).
-Initial release!
Notes about the rom:
Fingerprint sensor:
I have successfuly used the fingerprint sensor, but it is a bit sketchy. To make it work:
- Go to register your fingerprint under security settings.
- I registered all 5 of my fingertips all at once, by clicking add another, and only 2 of them "stuck" when I clicked done. I redid it registering one finger over and over again several times, and it eventually registered and stuck.
- If after clicking done, the fingerprint settings says x-number of fingerprints registered, then those fingerprints are working. Once registered, then you can use it in apps, and for the lockscreen, which did work about 1/2 of the time for me.
- If the lockscreen does not show the "fingerprint" icon, reboot to make it appear.
Open Source apps:
There are quite a few really good open source apps included in this build, such as:
Browser app
Amaze file manager app
SatStat GPS app
Camera app (orange one)
All of these great apps and more can be found at https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/. You can also download other great apps there like music players, games, and everything else you might need. The Fdroid app allows you to maintain up to date version control and simple downloading and installation of these apps and is a lightweight alternative to the Google Play Store. that is certainly worth taking a look.
Hello, this ROM is also compatible with all versione / model of Note Edge?

Ambient Display Issue
I love this rom, yet more great work from AKLU, but a big problem I have noticed with the rom is that Ambient Display stays on, even when disabled in settings. It drains battery pretty bad and causes my leg to press screen in pocket. Thanks for your hard work!

As for the ambient display, it is in the settings menu twice, once under "display" and once under "gestures" do you have both off? Does it still happen if both are off? Thanks!
Actually, I think I fixed it. The gestures and display menu settings copy each other, if I turn off in one, it turns off in other and vice versa. But I found that if you turn it off and on twice, the setting seems to stick and it turns off. If you only turn it off once from it being on after first boot, the setting doesn't stick until you cycle it one more time. The ROM runs amazing though, and isn't nearly as power hungry as TouchWiz; Qualcomm quick charge actually charges quick now! Another bug I have found however is that stuff like gyroscope seems to freeze up along with accelerometer. Google Cardboard for example immediately stops responding to the sensors. And there are times that the device will stop auto rotating, a fix to that is to open YouTube app on a video and it fixes. This is still a fast and amazing ROM though, I just wanted to let you know about these bugs too, so they can be looked at. I appreciate your work a lot. You and Mickey387 are pretty much the only people keeping this dev scene alive. If you need anything like logs or to test something, I would be glad to help!

Thanks for the kind words! Yes, @Mickey387 is the man! I mostly just fine tune his really great work to use it on these other roms.
I am currently testing a new updated build of this rom, so that should be out soon. This is Slim 0.7, and I am testing Slim 0.13, so quite a few fixes, although not much more in the feature department, just keeping it slim. Interestingly, they did change the SlimLauncher to be more like the PixelLauncher, rather than the traditional TrebuchetLauncher style.
It also should fully support OMS, rather than legacy mode, but I am still testing that.
As for testing, yes, anytime that you have an error, please take a logcat, I will be able to help much better if I have logs to work with.... That being said, if you wait a few days for the new release, then test and log if the error persists, that would be great!
I use this great ROM till one week. I use it without the UKLA-kernel, with the hope to get better battery drain.
For me is one little problem. The inactivity display is a nice feature. But when I get a notification, the display is to dark for daily use. When I want to start the phone by active inactivity display, the display keeps dark. I have to press the power button twice to get full light. That's a long way.
Perhaps this is a normal nougut-feature?
---------- Post added at 07:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:07 AM ----------
Part 2 - I have to change the train. [emoji3]
Because of my little problem above, I try to disable the inactivity display, but unfortunately the solution from DaKillaz98 doesn't work for me. [emoji17]
Well, I found out that the solution worked until I rebooted, now ambient display is stuck on. Knickelei, the ambient display staying dark is a bug with Android not restoring brightness values after the screen has been turned on. Another bug I found is that the camera display when taking a picture in Facebook Messenger is really warped and weird. I will provide logcats when I get them.

looks good, will post my feedback after using it for a while.
Could you please try out the calls? I couldn't make them work in every aosp based rom (Android 9 / 10) I tried. I wasted a lot of time on that. On miui everything is fine.
I been using it from last 24+ plus hours.. I haven't been impressed so much in recent time with any custom rom. i been on miroom 10.2.1.0 since long, due to stability concern, and this rom beat it. Its really amazing rom.
Its a fast rom, didnt notice any lag, i didnt notice any heat up, call works, internet banking works (need to add in magisk hide), tons of customization, less bloats and VOLTE WORKS..
notification works great, which was always an issue with miui, delayed notification.
lastly about battery.. IT is good, better than miui for me, i was worried about overnight battery drain or doze mode problems, but that is working fine here, hardly 3 to 5% drain overnight.
only bug i found so far,
I use single sim, and second sim i only use in emergency, i disable second sim, i couldnt turn it off for some reason, but its not a big deal, i just removed that sim
Its too early for me to say, but This is by far. the best custom rom for mi5, i ever used.

Hi I just installed this rom and there is not message icon and call screen don't appears. Someone can help with that ?
Edit:
Nvm I just had to install those apps.
I been using this rom for like more than a month now. I have also travelled a lot while on being on this rom. overall its good.
gps is kind of buggy sometimes not as smooth as miui, if travelling often, it might annoy you.
volte i am not sure, its my network issue or rom, when i try to send sms, it just resend them like 5 times lol. i turned volte off, so now its working fine.

I'm looking for a custom rom for the Redmi Note 4x that has the following features:

Hi there! I'm looking for a custom rom that has the following:
- Android 11 or less (Android 12 is very heavy ) - ( I was using LOS 19.1 by zeelog with A12 and the truth is that the phone suffered a lot with certain apps. Android 12 is definitely not for this phone).
- A good "one handed mode" like original miui rom.
- Stable and smooth and without many bugs. That the features of this phone work without problems. (fingerprint, led notifications, etc)
- Something customizable
- Some built-in tool like closing applications with security (fingerprint, password)
I was looking through the CR "resurrection remix" had some of these features but nowhere did I find if it had "one handed mode".
ArrowOs is another CR that generates me doubt, but I do not know if it is very stable and if it has some features that I need especially the "one handed mode".
I discarded MIUI custom roms because the last one I had (original) was being too slow, I do not want to imagine a more updated CR.

You're absolutely right, Android 12 is too much that mido can handle. Pick A11 or A10.
My all-time favourite custom rom is crDroid - very long time in the market, good opinion. Smooth, stable and customizable. Unfortuanetly I don't think you will find any rom with MIUI-like one-handed mode. There was an Xposed module mimicking this behaviour (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.zhougy0717.xposed.niwatori&hl=en_US&gl=US) but it's long gone I think

Yes, but it's obsolete and Im not sure on which Android version it was working fine... But there are some nice alternatives to one-handed mode which doesn't require root. Have you tried something like this perhaps?
Quick Cursor: One-Handed mode - Apps on Google Play
Makes it easier to use large smartphones with one hand by using a cursor.

amazing recommendation! thanks you
I installed the first app, also the xposed module to make it work and it worked only when I opened the app, then when I exited the app it didn't work anymore, I don't know what I've been doing wrong (I'm a newbie) or if the app really doesn't work well for android 11.
But the second application can replace although it is not the same obviously, but to get out of the way serves.

Nice, I'm glad you like it. Sometimes it's even better than one handed mode since you can reach everything while still keeping big screen. I use something similar but root-based, although I'm on MIUI and still have one handed mode
