Backup with broken screen and no touch - Realme 7 Pro Questions & Answers

How can i backup my apps data without screen and USB debugging turned off? I need backup google authenticator beacsue i can't access my discord account without it.

Do you have root access? TWRP?
I'm not sure whether it's even possible to do it with those, it would be best and safest to get the phone repaired.

no i don't have twrp and root. I used my phone for banking so i needed to have no root

Well in that case you can
1. Get the phone fixed or
2. Use a USB-A to USB-C or micro USB (idk what your device has) adapter and attach a mouse to it. It might work but it won't be of any use unless you can still see stuff on the screen.

Those are the options I can think of

Hmm. With said adapter and a mouse and keyboard you could maybe enable TalkBack and use it to tediously navigate to the necessary place to move the authenticator to a new device. But that might not work or will at least be hard. Are you sure that the screen's the only problem?
Or just go with the easiest (and most expensive) option of getting your device fixed.

i can't do it without backup code

And have you lost yours? Are you currently logged in on any other device?

i'm only logged in on this phone because my main pc is broken and i changed password so it logged out the pc. I didn't saved my backup codes so i can't remove it

Damn. I have to say this: Always save your backup codes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But the only remotely practical plan I can think of is to buy a new screen. I know this isn't what you wanted, but it is a solution. I don't know how recent your device is, maybe you could sell it to someone second hand after repairing the screen?

[Q] Barnacle

Is there anyone else using Barnacle with this phone? It seems to work great except for when i try to stop the tethering. the UI shows it has stopped but the device i am tethered to is clearly still receiving data?
Anyone else experiencing this?

Why use Barnacle? The native tethering works better (actually behaves as an AP instead of adhoc) once you freeze or delete TetherManager2.apk

Yes - but it would be needed for Barnacle anyway.
"freeze" is something you can do with TitaniumBackup.
I usually just manually remove it in an ADB shell.

I don't think anything is safe any more. AT&T seems to be doing deep packet inspection now.
So far people who have tethered Android tablets don't seem to have problems, but even light tethering with a PC gets you nailed now.
good to know, thanks again

[Q] Best way to secure data?

Hi all,
Read an article the other day about how MI state police will routinely dump all the data from your phone when they stop you for any reason. While i don't really have anything i need to hide, they don't really have any reason to go on a fishing expedition just because the law hasn't caught up to the 21st century.
So I'd like to know the best way to go about securing all the data on my phone. Up until now I've just been using a PIN code. I know that doesn't do anything for the data on the sd card and apparently it doesn't do anything for the data on the phone itself since whatever device the police are using can circumvent that.
So - any apps/tips etc I can use to make the data on my phone as secure as possible from prying eyes? Can the whole SD card be encrypted? If so, how about preventing access to the phone? Oh, and i'm using a rooted EVO 4G
thanks

Well you can do several stuff.First is screen lock with a password combining caps and numbers which will make it harder to crack using brute force.Second I use avast mobile security with anti theft installed and when i send it a remote command it secure wipes everything. It takes about 5 min tough for a secure wipe. Its called secure since if you delete something from the sd card it is quite possible and easy to recovery its content using a pc program like recuva. But when you are secure-wiping the it generates junk files over the original ones which makes it impossible to recover. Also a good idea when using screen lock is to keep USB debugging deactivated so its imposible to bypass the lock.

Thanks, although that's not exactly what I was looking for. I want to know if there's a way to secure the phone so that it's as close to impossible for someone to read any data on the phone. I do know about the various products that offer remote wiping of the phone.
In the article that i read, the police have some sort of device where it will bypass any screen lock you have. So I would assume really the only way to secure the data on the phone would be to encrypt everything. It just annoys the crap out of me that the michigan state police are making it a habit of searching your phone just for simple traffic stops.

I suppose that the device requires usb debugging on right? If so keep it off and use a lockscreen.

I don't know what it requires, but the article said it will bypass the lock screen. and they can certainly bypass everything and examine the SD card. I'm pretty sure it wont matter if USB debugging is turned on or off as most people dont have a rooted phone anyhow.

From what I see here it's doubtful that even encription woul be of any use.If they have the right to grab all private data like that I'm sure that they can also request that you disable any encription you have.So don't hide anything on your android while driving

It's not a question of right or not - i'd like to know how to prevent them from doing it. ubernoobza said i could encrypt the phone - how do i do that? I know there are some apps that will encrypt photos or files on your SD card. But is there a way to protect the whole phone?
You could look into this: https://guardianproject.info/code/luks/
But I'd suspect that you'd have to shutdown or yank out your battery before police get to your phone.

Are you using ics? If so go to Settings - Security - Encrypt Phone.

I'm looking at LUKS - hopefully i dont bork my phone.
And no, i'm not running ICS - i have an evo 4g - i haven't really looked into putting ICS on my phone yet. I'll look into the built in encryption on ICS and see if it'll do what i want - if so might be worth just installing ICS rather then messing around with LUKS (plus it gives me an excuse to play with ICS
ICS would be easier to try now, although I haven't. And the pleasure of ICS is holding me back from going to CM6 to try LUKS. I haven't read up anything about the ICS encryption yet though, being a little lazy.
If you read down on Guardian Project/LUKS' Gihub page, there's a mention of Moxie Marlinspike. His Whisper Systems company was the one that made the Redphone and TextSecure apps that were big Egypt's Arab Spring. They're developing a similar security/encryption suite, something to look out for.
http://www.whispersys.com/
It sounds like the ICS encryption encrypts everything. The one downside to it i've found some far is that it uses the same pin/password that's used to lock/unlock the phone.
To me that's a big mistake. You don't want a simple 4 digit pin for encryption - too easy to brute force. But you also don't want some super long complicated password for your lock code. Hopefully they'll change that at some point.

It doesn't allow you to just use a 4 digit pin. It needs to be a strong password. 1 digit, 1 letter and 1 capital minimum.
I can see what you mean about being a pain to unlock all the time, but I guess thats the price you pay for security!

That is a downside. But the pin/pass is minimum 4 characters. I just read somewhere that this might be capped at 7, still not great. Also, someone suggested using a pattern for unlocking and pin/pass for encryption. Dunno if that's a real workaround, not the most thorough web searches now.
Just found the android encryption notes page. It uses dm-crypt with 128 AES for filesystem and master key.

man, i'm learning some new things reading around, albeit mostly that i don't know ****. that android source link says it isn't usable with YAFFS, which likely means no. but then, i don't know **** about these filesystems -- yaffs, mtd, bml, ext4, they're all new to me.
I'm pretty sure the sd card is formatted with FAT32. The only other file system i've seen mentioned before in regards to the sd card would be ext2 and ext4.
Guess i'll have to do some digging. It would be REALLY cool if this encrypted the entire contents of the sd card as well.
Any idea how long the encryption should take and how you can tell when it's done? On the screen to start the encryption it says it could take an hour or more. It's been running for about 3 hours now. All it showed on the screen was a big android icon - and when i hit the home key just now, it took me to the home screen. So I'm not even sure if it's really finished, or if it even really started.
yikes, that's crazy. you'd think another screen or popup message would show.
I guess the only ways to find out are to go back to that menu and see if it's changed, check the log, or cross your fingers and reboot. eesh.

Dropped my phone and the screen isn't working

Hi, I recently dropped my Vibrant and the screen is broken. Now I don't need to get it fixed because I already ordered a new phone a few days ago, but I do need the data on the Vibrant. Is there any way to extract the data like contacts from the phone? And I think usb storage is off

Give the phone to me and I will switch the MB on your phone to my phone and get the information for you. (my phone has lost the capability to use SIM card so currently I use it for a music player.) PM me.
I have a vibrant with a wonky connection somehwere, but perfectly functioning screen. If you sell the phone to me then I'd be happy to pull whatever data I can off of it and send you a CD/DVD/Flash drive with everything on it.
Ideally, I'd like to use your logic board to get my vibrant back in working condition.

[Q] Want to root Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 with broken screen?

Hi, basically the glass smashed on the front of my S3 so i decided to try and fix it myself. Stupidly I managed to break the amoled screen underneath so I now have a phone (that works and turns on) with just a black screen. I can still answer calls by pressing one of the volume buttons but that's pretty much it.
I could really do with finding a way to control my phone from my pc so I can install apps, check emails etc (just until i send it off to get repaired). But this seems to only be possible through rooting the phone.
Reading through some of the tutorials on rooting it seems you need to give permission to go into download mode etc, and you need to be in usb debugging mode (which my phone isnt).
Im just wondering if there's any workaround to this, or if there's any software out there that will give me full control of the phone without having to launch an app or touch the screen at all. I know it's a long shot but it's worth a try!
Thanks in advance!
There are a number of broken screen posts use search.

or you can use

not too sure about the activity name though

Question Android Transfer Doesn't Connect

I have an S23U with up-to-date software and a Mac Book Pro running OS Ventura 13.2.1. I have installed 'Android File Transfer' on the laptop as directed by the software but the laptop and phone will not connect, despite my switching both off and on, trying other USB-C cables, etc. Has anyone any suggestions as to why this might be, please? As things stand I can only transfer files wirelessly (and slowly) via Google Drive. Edit - I have now tried uninstalling and re-installing AFT, removing Kies and Smart Switch apps from the laptop and enabling developer status on the phone to allow USB de-bugging. Nothing has allowed the phone to be connected to the Mac Book Pro. BTW, I assume I don't need to install AFT on the phone as well, as that isn't mentioned on their site?
When you have the usb plugged into the pc and phone do you have a notification on the phone that says something like usb connect or charging or something? If so I'd tap that notification and it opens an android setting that lets you choose what to do with that usb connection charging, file transfer, etc. Make sure that it is on file transfer. Default is charging. And if this isn't the issue then I'm no more help because i have no other ideas

If all else fails you could always set up a local network folder so you don't have to use gdrive so it wouldn't have to go to internet and back it would just be over your network

Yes, I've removed both of those from the laptop and the phone has never had them. It seems hard to avoid the conclusion that Samsung have made it impossible to connect the S23U (and other S23s?) with AFT to transfer files - a commercial decision, perhaps? Looks like I'll have to go back to GD. I'm a keen photographer and have ony just taken the plunge into phone photography (I still use my proper cameras most of the time) so I use the 200mp setting a lot - hence large files and slow transfer on GD, but so be it.

There's another app called openMTP. You could try that or file transfer using ADB. ADB is foolproof and will work as long as the computer recognizes your device.
Thanks for this. I looked up MTP and below is an interesting extract from the blurb - is it correct that AFT is "officially dead"? If so that would explain why I have wasted so much effort trying, but failing, to use it!

OK, again - thank you. I have tried OpenMTP and it doesn't work, despite my having followed all the FAQs, etc. ADB is above my abilities, requiring as it does a knowledge of 'programming-speak'. Looks like I only have GD as my option - perhaps I am unusual in having an Android phone and an Apple laptop, but I wouldn't have thought it was that rare. Is it thought on this forum, I wonder, that Samsung have pulled out all the stops to make their new products as incompatible as possible with Apple's?

Have you enabled Firewall on your Mac?
If so, you'll have to add this app as an exception, so your phone can communicate with it.
Alternatively, you can setup/ enable SMB service on your Mac and then connect to it using a file manager on your phone. This doesn't require internet to work. Same holds true for other file transfer protocols like SFTP, FTP, etc.
If you're not aware of these, let me know and I'll help you set it up.
