8. Click Option>Option and the settings should look something like this

10. Click download, you may get few error just click ok and re-press download till the process
start as its old software sometimes its buggy
11. Once the process is complete reboot phone by press & hold Power Button + Volume Up
Now you can do Step 0 and should be able to Update to UI 2.0

In your phone there you can find your imei number after removing your battery or back cover. If your phone comes with a fix battery and cover then you can find those number from your mobile box that give you with phone when you brought it.

Doesn't work. Waste of time. There isn't enough explanation for "5- Install Drivers".
In the driver ZIP file, there are two version 1.0.4 and 1.0.8. Why have two? Which to install? And in each of them, there are 3 versions of Driver_auto_installer, and an MTK_Driver_ext. I tried the last version of Driver_auto_installer, but the writing software kept failing with "SmartPhoneSN::ConnectWithPreloader():Get dynamic preloader comport timeout".
I tried to run the "DriverInstaller.exe" in MTK_Driver_ext, but Windows said it cannot run it. It turned out that the application is 64-bit. So, I tried the same thing on a 64-bit Windows PC, but I got the same errors.
Also, the AP DB something file, it contains multiple files that start with BPL/AP per each chipset. The OP did not explain which files to use.

@NOSS8 I've tested this method out. The USB serial device drive shows for about 3 seconds and MTK META UTILITY only detects it when I uninstall the driver for the USB serial device. Then it didn't succeed due to the driver I guess. Look at the result in the following image.
Note:
I'm using Windows 11. For this, I will install Windows 7. I will redo the process. When I finish, I will provide you with the results.

@NOSS8 Not working neither in windozs 11 nor in windows 7, I've tested a lot of MediaTek drivers with no luck. Even the new app (Rom2Box) is not detecting the USB serial at all.

BTW: I don't have and would never have a xiaomi Mediatek and therefore never use these tools for Mediatek, that's why I can help you for the links but not for the use of these tools.

I've used the mtk_gui, and after it got connected, I sent my original firmware boot.img that is currently installed on my mobile after renaming it to boot.bin to the device partitions boot_a and boot_b
Rebooting the device got me the original recovery mode and the fastboot mode.
Then I used the MiFlash tool to flash my phone using flash_all.bat
Every thing is working fine know.

actually there is a tool for disabling verification
just use mtk meta utility
so click disable auth bypass and connect then it will stop connecting and disconnecting

turn-off tab , press & hold (vol+ vol-) together, at the same time insert usb cable from computer to your Tab >>> your tab will wakes up and then >> boot to (download mode) by press vol+

As I had a somehow hard time to find a comprehensive guide on how to unlock the bootloader and root the Zenfone 4, here is a quick guide on how to do so. The method below was successfully used on a Z01KDA.
As usual: this guide will be used at your own risk. I won't accept any responsibility in any way if it results in a damage of any sort on your device.

PREREQUISITES
Zenfone 4 (that... should be obvious, but who am I to judge)
A computer with:
Windows (at least Windows 7, I guess)
Fastboot ready to use (I recommend using the file from this link as it is the most straightforward, but if you prefer the SDK tools, well, you do you) and being able to use it (though on a basic level)
A USB-C cable capable of transferring data
Time to read all the annoying stuff below, and patience.
1. Bootloader unlock (from this thread // thanks to OP @shakalaca)
Whichever method you use to unlock your bootloader, all your personal data and settings will be erased and your phone will be restored to factory default. So, backup everything before going forward.
As this method was used on a rather old version of the Zenfone 4 firmware, I suggest that you use the official downgrade method from Android P to Android O. To do so :
Download the file here on your computer (the main page is located here, under Drivers & Tools), and put it at the root of the phone, do not change the name of the file
After unplugging your phone, it will prompt a software update, proceed with it
If it doesn't work for any reason, use this method instead:
Put the file on a SD card (...inside the phone)
Reboot the phone to recovery (via ADB, or Power button + Volume down)
Install the update from recovery
Wait for the phone to reboot.
After the downgrade, you can proceed to the bootloader unlock:
Download the method of @shakalaca located here
Unzip all the files to the same folder
Get into fastboot on the phone (reboot with Power button + Volume up)
Make sure that your phone is detected with
Code:
fastboot devices
Run the file "ze554kl_unlock.bat" as administrator
Let it do its magic
Your phone will reboot, congrats, the bootloader is unlocked.

Follow the same steps as in the previous guide (1.), but with this file (the main page is located here, under BIOS & FIRMWARE ==> you have to click on EXPAND ALL to see all files)
3. Root
On your phone:
Download the Magisk Manager apk from this link on your phone
Install it
On your computer:
Download the file from step 2. above
Extract it to any location
Locate the file boot.img and put it your phone.
On your phone:
Open Magisk
Click on Install
On the next screen, select
Preserve AVB 2.0/dm-verity
Preserve force encryption
Click NEXT
Under Method, click Select and Patch a File
Select the boot.img file
Let Magisk patch the file
Locate and put the modified boot.img file on your computer (in the same folder as the one with fastboot if you did not install it system wide)
Get into fastboot mode (reboot with Power button + Volume up)
On your computer
Open a cmd window
cd to the folder where the modified boot.img is located
Check if your phone is detected with the following command:

Input the following command and press Enter:

Reboot your phone with the following command:

Your phone will reboot, congrats, it is rooted.
