Controlling Phablet presets ? - Ubuntu Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings,
First Linux tablet/phone & Ununbtu_touch. Is on a Nexus_7, bigger
than average size screen does me right. Mostly used as a video pad.
Am a very simple linux user, need direction.
Would like to tweak my phablet if possible:
1) UI settings revert to defaults everytime Phablet off/on.
a)System settings[sidebar] > Rotation lock reverts
b) System [Smaller top icon] > Desktop mode reverts
Is fix a small init bash script? Can you please spell it out.
2) How to create a folder that is VISIBLE on phablet default screen ?
Did a 'mkdir' in 'Desktop' folder and one in home. Folders show in terminal
using 'ls' but NOT visible on immediate default screen.
Thankyou for reading

Zero zero answers what if i pay you for a solution?

[Q] long press touchscreen decrease time response

How can I decrease 'long press' time response on touchscreen. For example, I gave up to default keyboard to smart keyboard just for this option.
I want to change this time in every app of android (decrease it).
Using GT-I9100_NEE_I9100XWKI8_I9100OXXKI2_I9100XXKI4.
thanks

I think that this is determined in the ROM or kernel of your ROM.
So you will have to test another ROM and/or kernel to get other time responses.
Just a suggestion:
Have you already tried to disable all window animations?
(In Settings menu => Display => Animations)
Maybe this has and influence on the display's response time too.
Good luck !
Yes, I tried already to disable animations, but it has no effect.
Of course there are many applications (like browsers) that have their own value to LongPress Timeout, but I'm sure there is a general variable value set. I just want where to find this and if we can change it.
This is all I found, but I'm not a developer so is not so helpful for me: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/ViewConfiguration.html
+1
someone ?
You can't change the long press timing on default Samsung ROM/Keyboard, that's why I switched to Hacker's Keyboard.
I'm not talking about keyboard only. Read my post, please.
That variable can/is different from app to app. You can manually set it in its XML file inside app but it takes time. Maybe it can be set in touchsreen file that control touchscreen drivers inside use/idc folder if you have it and to set that to be default option you have to edit touchscreen drivers inside kernel.

HOWTO: Tasker Padfone S/X-easily detect phone/tablet switch-swap GMD Gesture Control

I've had my Padfone S for a few months now but never really found the time to figure this out till I woke up early this morning.
Background, the Padfone series of phones have a tablet 'dock' which acts as an external larger screen when its plugged in. Does not appear as a dock in the android sense of the word, so the dock state for Tasker isn't useful. The HDMI state activates for a short while when plugged into the tablet but deactivates a short while later, so no use as well.
Earlier posts in Tasker's google group suggested using `dumpsys display` with grep, but that's quite ROM-specific, and besides its hard to debug without a terminal due to the sheer volume of output.
**Check Tablet mode part**
I used to just grep wm size or wm density for Override, but that had a bug.
So it turns out 'Override' simply means 'not the same as the mode I booted in'. My task failed when I rebooted as a tablet, it would give the opposite answer. The solution, after I've played around a bit, is two calls to wm size/density.
The first call is `wm size | grep "Physical size: 1920x1200" | wc -l` - I save this in %tabletboot, it has the value of 1 when booted as tablet, 0 if booted as phone.
The second call is `wm size | wc -l` - I save this as %samemode, it has the value of 1 if we're in the mode we booted in (tablet/phone) and of 2 if we're not (because there's an additional Override line).
The test is simply "If %tabletboot + %samemode is even" or is equal to 2, if you prefer. This would be true if we booted as tablet AND we're still in that mode or if we booted as phone AND we're in the opposite mode.
**GMD Gesture Control part**
The reason I wanted to do this was mainly because GMD Gesture Control could only work either in phone or tablet mode for me. Auto-detection of the touchscreen input didn't work because of course there are 2 touch screens, so for tablet mode I needed to select 'asus_dds_sis_touch' and 'HC_DEFAULT' in GMD's advanced settings while for phone mode I needed to select 'Himax-touchscreen' and 'HC_FT5X'. Of course, you may also want to have different gestures for the different screens.
First, from a Padfone perspective, you need to go to ASUS Customized Settings -> Padfone Settings -> Dynamic Display List and add GMD Gesture Control to the list not to be killed when switching modes. Tasker and any Tasker plugins which need to constantly run (such as Whatstasker) should also be here.
GMD Gesture Control puts its settings in two files (both in /data/data/com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontrol/shared_prefs) named 'GestureControl.xml' and 'gestures.xml'. You'll need to create two additional copies of these files and delete the originals. So I ended up with 'tabGestureControl.xml', 'phoneGestureControl.xml', 'tabgestures.xml', and 'phonegestures.xml'.
Now, back to Tasker. Set up a state profile based on the value of the %TABLET variable. You'll need an entry task and exit task, which are almost identical. Basically, both tasks need to do these steps in order:-
1. Delete both GestureControl.xml and gestures.xml (use Root, continue after error)
2. Symbolically link the right copy of GestureControl.xml/gestures.xml
3. Kill GMD Gesture Control using root to restart it.
4. Pause GMD Gestures (use AutoShortcut), wait 1 second, and then unpause GMD Gestures
Of course, step 2 differs in the entry/exit task, one is for tablet configuration, one is for phone. The rest are identical.
Step 1 can be done using Run Shell and calling `rm /data/data/com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontrol/shared_prefs/GestureControl.xml` or using Tasker's Delete File. Remember to delete both files.
Step 2 needs Run Shell to call `ln -s /data/data/com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontrol/shared_prefs/tabGestureControl.xml /data/data/com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontrol/shared_prefs/GestureControl.xml`. Again, remember to do this for both files.
Step 4 needs autoshortcut, so download that and use it, under Plugins.
That's about it. The same technique can be used for anything you want to change in this awesome Padfone device. Perhaps you'd want to activate an overlay or change an app's font settings. With Tasker, no limits =).

Res issue & getting started +

Hi folks,
after long searchs, compares, thoughts and headaches, my decision went for a brand new Xperia Z5c. It is my first ever just-touch phone.
I am on Android 6.0 Marshmallow now.
I guess most of you have gained some experience already, so I would be glad if someone could give me some advices on my issues:
1. I would like to have more grids on home screen, smaller icons, spaces and texts, as well as applied to all apps. Just would like to "increase" the "resolution". that "small" from settings is not small enough for me. I can reduce the icon sizes by using the Holo launcher though, but still the apps are in big sizes, like calendary, emails, status bar, settings etc.
2. I was told by the seller that I should better avoid using the quick charger, but he seemed for me like not sure. If sony offers that, why should it be bad? Is that true?
3. When I start the radio it does not end, even I try to close it through the right app button (where all the running apps are listed), it closes there but still runs in background. when I put off the ear plugs, and plug it in again, it still continues with radio. Only restarting the phone helps. What can I do that I can run it normally and close whenever I want? Or what could be the reason for that problem?
4. What simple music player can you suggest for me?
5. is it possible to record a video with HD (ready) instead of FullHD with 60Hz ? How?
Thank you in advance!
1. You can try change the dpi. If adb is installed on your computer, then connect phone to pc. Make sure USB debugging is turned on in Developer Options. Open a command window in the adb folder, and type "adb devices". If you see a device listed, you are good to go.
Then type adb shell
Then type wm density 260 or any value less than 320 (which is the default dpi). The lower, the smaller everything becomes. Then restart. You can always revert back to 320 dpi through the same process.
2. Use the quick charger
3. There is a switch off button in radio and that must be used
4. Phonograph
5. Swipe up in camera till you get to "Video". Then tap the gear icon at the bottom right. Select any resolution you want

Sadman Khan! Thank you ALOT for the help, and quick and direct reply!
For these 2 points:
1. dpi is ok now, worked like a charm, icons and texts on apps got smaller as I wished. so simple! Since I can not set grid size and reduce the spaces between the icons with Xperia Launcher, is it ok that I am using Holo Launcher (which is probably old? I am careful in installing apps to avoid high memory usages and slow down) just because of that? (I admittedly do not know other way, and I don't know whether it is normal. just pity that the weather widget is not so beautiful anymore, but is still ok.)
5. I didn't write correct, excuses. I mean: I can use 60 frames per second only on FullHD, I wished I could use for normal HD also 60. On the camera app it is just for FullHD available. What app can you suggest me to make use of it on a one lower resolution if there is no way with the current app? (I prefer more frames to resolution, in order to save a bit from file sizes.)

A fix for wrong Status Bar padding.

So, i recently got this device and i found it pretty annoying how the clock and battery icons were too close to the rounded corner of the screen, and since my device is still in warranty i can't use advanced root tools to fix this, but fortunately i found a solution that works in unrooted stock rom and i wanted to share in case anyone wants to fix their device too.
All you need is to have access to Developer Settings and enable Device Debugging, and ADB installed in your computer.
With your device connected, open CMD in the folder you installed ADB or just open Terminal if you're in linux, then enter this commmand:
Code:
adb shell settings put secure sysui_rounded_content_padding 8
And done! You should see the difference right away.
This setting is kept after a reboot, but i doubt you'll ever want to change it back to it's default, but if you want you can change the value to 0.
You can change the value at the end of the command to your liking, i just found 8 to be my prefered setting.
I hope this helps!
EDIT: Actually, there's a problem. The padding changes to the default everytime you change the screen orientation which is very annoying. I couldn't find a fix for this but if you know of any please let me know!
Hey, do You know how to make a similar adjuctment but with padding-top (i dunno, that's how it is in html )

I'm not sure if you can change the vertical padding, but if you did it the notch would probably cover the apps on screen so i think it wouldn't be a good idea
Hi,
I have found a little workaround for the padding setting reset after screen orientation change. It is possible to get the padding back without using ADB again.
Set the padding using the ADB method
Now if you change screen orientation the padding will disappear
Go to Settings -> Display -> Advanced -> Device Theme
Switch to the theme that is not currently used and back (Note: If you have an automatic theme selected, try to select both light and dark theme, it should change after selecting one or another)
The desired padding should be back again.

[Solved] Second display not in full screen (resolution issue?)

Hi everyone
I'd like to setup my Tab S7+ as a second display for my Windows laptop. Everything runs smoothly, but the trouble is that the display on my tablet is very small and not in full screen.
I guess it may be because of the resolution, since my laptop has a 3000x2000 screen, but is there a way to fix this?
Thanks!
I found the solution by myself, here it is:
> Right click on desktop
> Go to Intel Graphics Settings
> Go to Display
> Go to Wireless Display
> Move the slider to 100% in Picture Size

Thank you for this! It's the correct solution. The Microsoft site and others all say to download the Samsung Second Screen application, which is useful because it adds additional resolutions, but it doesn't fix the fact that the Intel settings are fors ome reason set to use only 85% of the display space.
