Question How dangerous is it to use "Disable permission monitoring" ? / Fixing refresh rate - Realme GT 2 Pro

Hello,
I have this phone for a couple of days now and the refresh rate managment is so bad on it. In apps like Youtube or Twitch it jumps between 60 and 30 Hz making videos stutter. Games are also locked to 60 Hz/60 FPS however this can partially be worked around with SetEdit. Sadly even after changing refresh rate values in SetEdit the refresh rate and FPS lowers as soon as I lift my finger from the screen and this leads to stutter in games that require you to swipe often etc.
Finally I found that after enabling "Disable permission monitoring" in developer options in combination with SetEdit, makes the refresh rate stay at 120 Hz all the time and the stuttering in apps is gone and FPS in games doesn't drop as soon as I lift my finger from the screen. This is all great but I am unsure how safe it is to disable permission monitoring. I tried some apps and they still ask for permissions. I even tried to grant permission via ADB and it wouldn't let me because "the app didn't ask for this permission". Does anyone have an idea what exactly this option does and how dangerous is to leave permission monitoring disabled?
TL;DR: Found out that I can fix refresh rate to 120Hz with "Disable permission monitoring" developer option enabled but I don't know how safe it is to leave it like that.

I believe is used only when install app s from adb. Its safe to use.

For me, turning "disable permission monitoring" to "on" is not enough to have 120Hz in all apps. It works in system launcher, settings and some apps but in many apps refresh rate still goes down to 30 / 60Hz (especially when brightness is above 50%). I need to use additional app to have always 120Hz. Did you change anything else that enabling "disable permission monitoring" is enough?
I am looking everywhere what else in the system changes when this setting is "on" but can't find any information so far.

Nah, I have to use SedEdit + "Disable permission monitoring" to make it stay at 120 Hz permamently. I bought the 2$ feature pack for SetEdit so it automatically changes the refresh values when I open the app after restarting my phone.
What I would like to do is to skip the "Disable permission monitoring" because it sounds like a security threat but I can't seem to find a workaround for this yet. I tired giving IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS permission to a game but it won't let me. Tried some other command that whitelisted the same app to ignore the battery optimizations and the command worked but it didn't fix the problem with FPS dropping after I lift my finger off the screen.
There's clearly some terrible "optimization" working in the background and we have no control over it which is a sad joke. And it's not an Android problem because I tested the same excact thing on S21 Ultra 5G and it sticks to 120Hz when it should. It's BBK doing it and refusing to even talk about it (the same thing happens on all BBK phones from what I gathered).
Edited first post to clear things up and corrected it a bit.

Can you share which refresh values you change in SetEdit?

put peak_refresh rate to 1

Peak refresh rate in setedit app. Change it to "1" and 120Hz will be system wide enabled. No need to play with other permissions.
Works on my GT2 so it should work in GT2 Pro as well.

It is not enough to force 120Hz permamently. It is still variable (dropping to 60,30 or 1 Hz depending on displayed content and screen brightness) after setting peak refreshrate to 1

On the GT2 panel it stays at 120 Hz permanently. But then again I know it is a different type of panel then the one on the GT2 Pro.

90hz on pubg was a OnePlus exclusive a week or 2 ago so I'm guessing you need to wait for it to roll out to others
You can fix this problem by setting the screen to 60 hz and deleteing , battery and performance, app cache and data. Now set the screen and to 90 hz and enjoy.

Explain well!!!!
If u can't find battery and performance app, install an app called ,hidden setting for miui, from play store and there is an app manager in it with system app show feature.

WIll be interesting to see if this makes much of a difference. With the S21 touted as having dynamic refresh rate adjustment, it shouldn't be needed, in theory.

You got the wrong theory.
It's not the first to have the adaptive refresh rate, note 20 ultra is. Been using this on note 20 ultra .
Though refresh rate is adaptive, phone is using the highest refresh rate (i.e. 120hz) atleast 80% of the time.
Setting the max to 96hz definitely consumes less battery than 120hz.
And this is not only what you can do with this app.
One question: us the 60hz also adaptive? Goes down to 10hz when not in use?

Sorry your question is not clear to me.
But if you are asking for smartphones with standard refresh rate (i.e. 60hz), I think they are all on a single 60hz refresh rate (i.e. fixed). I have not known any which can go lower than 60hz, moreso on the capability to go as low as 10hz. In fact, the S21 Ultra is the only smartphone capable to do so as of the moment.

Sorry I don't know yet.
But if we based it on the existing implementation of Samsung in Note 20 Ultra's "standard mode", it is not lowering down to 48hz (the lowest refresh rate it is capable) when the screen is idle or if it has static content or even when the screen is turned-off or in AOD.
If fact this is true even in Adaptive Mode - Samsung actually (and strangely) sets it to the highest refresh rate (120hz) when in AOD or when screen is off. Watch closely this video. This is the reason why this app includes a "Screen off refresh rate mod" to override this behavior.
Not sure though if this will be the same for S21 Ultra.

I'm running into the following error while trying to set up the ADB on phone using my laptop:
adb: device unauthorized.
This adb server's $ADB_VENDOR_KEYS is not set
Try 'adb kill-server' if that seems wrong.
Otherwise check for a confirmation dialog on your device.
I didn't see any popup requesting permission on my phone. Any advice?

When its set to 60hz, it just stays there. Regardless of Adaptive or standard. When you re-apply adaptive mode, the app no longer allows 48hz as lowest refresh rate, only 60 as minimum when you set 96hz or 120hz as max refresh. I have not seen 48 outside of screen-off which is reporting at 48 when toggled instead of the 60hz s21u selects as its screen-off Hz.
You are not missing too much, as I hear the os release is still pre-release technically and full release OTAs are around corner. There are many display bugs still.

The phone never seems to go below 120 for me. Unless I open a game. Then it's a stuttering messy 60. It's better to open the game after setting the phone to 60 first.
(In using Show frame rate from developer settings)
Also Chrome browser stutters even tho it shows 120.

Question LTPO 2.0 not working properly?

So, I've tested this phone for a while now and saw that something was up with the refresh rate of the display. I use Nova Launcher and I could tell that it wasn't as smooth as their own launcher, or the system settings for example. In developer options I turned on the "show refresh rate" toggle and the values were weird, to say the least. When it is operating at 120Hz and everything is smooth, it shows the number 10, but when I go to Nova Launcher, or Reddit Sync for example it shows 60. All of this only happens on the Auto mode, but that is the point of the LTPO Display, so it can work its magic. So as it seems the software doesn't show correctly when its running in 120Hz mode. Also, I would very much like to have Apps that I deem worthy run in 120Hz mode too, not just the ones it chooses by itself.
Strange. My phone is working like it should. Shows 10 fps when the screen is not moving. Shows 120fps as I start moving. I also tested YouTube and videos show the correct fps. 30 fps and 60 fps depending on the video.

In principle, the level of brightness that you have on influences, manual brightness, I think that from 80-85% brightness it goes from 5 to 1 in refresh rate. I put a capture.
Definitely to do with brightness
At lowest brightness on auto refresh rate, it seems to never drop below 120hz except in certain apps like maps where it'll go to 60hz.
But if I put brightness at about 30%, it can drop to 10hz.
So I wonder what's more battery efficient 0% brightness at 120hz or 30% brightness at 10hz
When in a dark environment, and forced into the 120Hz mode, the LTPO panel’s power consumption isn’t all that different from an LTPS panel ~180mW power penalty that is present at all times, even on a black static screen, because of 120 Hz. That penalty comes from the measured power, with 640 mW and 465 mW in the respective 120 and 60Hz modes. Under a brighter ambient conditions, the panel showcases its technology advantages, and power consumption drops drastically. In the 120Hz mode but with the minimum refresh rate now in the regular '48 Hz' setting, the power figure drops from 640mW to 428mW, which is a massive 220mW drop.

When it comes to the difference in the battery runtimes between running the phone in a dark or a bright environment, there are somewhat small difference. In the 60Hz maximum refresh mode, VRR/LFD gains the phone an additional 4% of battery life. In the 120Hz mode, we see a larger 8.5% jump in runtime.

The problem is not that the GT2 PRO does not have an option to enable adaptive refresh rate with Nova, the problem is that Nova is not fully optimized with Android 12.

Set your screen to 120 (High) in settings, and never change )
Will this just force 120hz or working LTPO for 3rd party apps?
Working ltpo, If You want only 120 enter same settings by adb.
Ok but what's exactly the point of your settings?
If I set 120hz always in settings, LTPO will also work and go down to 60-30-10hz if not touching the display
Lol, this is for apps with no 120hz support like camera, some browsers, other launchers, even some games

Question Realme Gt2 Pro global version ltpo2.0 refresh rate not working

Hi,
I am having a realme gt2 pro global version(RMX 3301) Realme UI version 3.0. Build number RMX330_11_A.16.
I screen refresh rate is set to auto. and the screen is stuck with the max refresh rate of 120hz in almost all time. except for in a few apps where it reduces to 60 and once in a while to 30hz. Why the phone is not varying from (1 to 120hz) as it was advertised.
Any solution is appreciated.
Thanks
If it goes down to 30hz, your LTPO 2.0 screen is working. 1hz will only appear when you're not touching the screen and it's on and a static image is on it.
You have to disable in develop mode permission monitoring witch you enabled an forgot about.
Also do not forget that it is dependant on the level of screen brightness. The brighter your screen, the lower the refresh rate will go.
Maybe you where using third part app. Enable show screen refresh rate in developer options. That was also my mistake.
Hi everyone,
I wanted to refresh the topic. I have system version A13 RMX3301_11.C.11. In the screen options, the refresh rate setting is set to "auto". Out of curiosity, I turned on the option to "show the refresh rate" in the developer settings. Using only the launcher (stock realme) itself, I noticed that when the "disable permission monitoring" option in developer settings is turned off, the refresh rate on the screen varies ,depending on the brightness of the screen, from 1 to 120Hz. When "disable permission monitoring" is enabled, the screen refresh rate when using launcher is always 120Hz. I have not compared the this in other programs, but for example in chrome it goes down to 60/30Hz but in the launcher itself it is always 120Hz. This is weird to me, and I don't know if it's a bug or a feature. Is anyone else experiencing similar behavior or is it just me? Maybe someone knows a way to make the variable refresh rate active even when the "disable permission monitoring" option is turned on?
I use Nova launcher and at maximum brightness the value drops to 1.
Settings, Chrome and Google calendar checked and result also 1.

And you have exactly the same behaviour when "disable permission monitoring" is on and off?
