Question Does greyed out OEM UNLOCK require google play services? - Moto G Power (2021)

I have had 2 phones both should been able to OEM Unlockable. x0032. I verified that is unlockable. I disable google play stuff. I think maybe the OEM unlock is related to google setup and google is the one OEM unlocking the devices. Any thoughts?

Google services is not related by OEM unlocking in any ways

Then what is? I have two phones that aren't unlocked. One I had for almost a year, CID's are unlockable on the CID list. Tried reset, ect. Something I am doing is disabling it from being unlocked since 100% sure the devices are unlockable.
Has anyone had success unlocking their phone without google services running or doing the intial google setup when resetting phone?

No, you dont need google to do that, They work without google.

Can you give the ss or logs of the error

Then what would explain two phones not being able to OEM unlock?
1.) Cid matches up with list of OEM unlockable phones on both devices
2.) Had internet connection (one for over a year)
3.) Tried every method under the sun listed to unlock it including over 10+ factory resets.
The only thing I didn't do is the setup thing at the start of clean install which is a google setup and contacts google servers.

It is the OEM gray out, not bootloader unlock. Is there a way to log that? Also I appreciate the responsiveness I get on these forums. I will try my best to provide anything possible that obviously isn't personally identifying information.

What i said google setup is not neccassary i also skipped my google setup when i unlocked the bootloader of the phone if u unlocked your phone and skipped google setup it means your phone is unlocked

It is definitely not unlocked. The "OEM_Locked" In the bootloader text is reason I know.

That's the thing, the OEM unlocking is still greyed out on both devices. Both moto devices, both on the list of oem unlocking according to CID. They are not the same devices also. It is really strange.

Then your phone depends on Google Framework and Services,

Then flash into custom ROMs, that would help to unlock bootloader

What are you saying do you know
Flashing rom needs unlocked bootloader and flashing rom does not unlock bootloader

First of all you can't flash a custom rom without unlocked bootloader that I am aware of. Secondly, I am not even at the step of unlocking the bootloader, I am trying to OEM unlock first so I can unlock the bootloader.

Do I have to make a sacrifice to the Motorola gods in exchange for OEM unlocking?

Bootloader Unlocking Risks

I was looking into unlocking the bootloader of my moto g 2nd edition (xt1064), and I wanted to know if there are any serious risks or warnings I should be aware of.
Risks like:
- damage to the sim card
- disabled messaging or calling
Unlocking the bootloader itself won't do any damage. It's what you do AFTER you unlock the bootloader, like installing custom ROMs that can potentially be dangerous. (Note I said POTENTIALLY)

So I can still make calls and text with an unlocked bootloader, but it's the custom ROMs I install that may do that

Anything you can do without it unlocked you can do it with it unlocked. And I'm fairly certain all custom ROMS for your device will have the ability to text and call considering it's a phone. If that's not the case the developer of whatever ROM doesn't have that feature is just a moron.

Are you sure? The motorola bootloader unlocking website said that I could lose some key functions, including calling.

I checked out the website. Honestly, I've never heard of a phone losing these key functions.
According to me, the warning is about what you do after unlocking.
So, I'll say go ahead and unlock your phone.

Unlocking your Device blocks Fingerprint Recognition ?

Hi, I was going to unlock my phone using the Xiaomi Unlock tool, but in the attention section, it says that fingerprint recognition won't be available anymore. Is it true, and if it ever happens, how can I reverse that? how can I re-lock my device? I want to unlock my device to maybe put an AOSP Rom when one comes out or MIUI 10 a little early, but if I lose those features I'll stick with the built-in updater!
Don't worry it just means that it can be bypassed on an unlocked device as it is insecure.
It wil not stop fingerprint/face unlock. Go Ahead.

I've just asked pretty much this same question in another thread (though I was more concerned about the property face unlock). I gather from reading around that the miunlock tool allows you to relock the bootloader.
My follow up question is, if you do this, relock your bootloader, are access to autoupdates and face unlock (if lost) reinstated?
Sorry for (kinda) cross-posting

Ok, thanks! Also, when it says "will remove all data" does this mean a factory reset? Is the phone "as new" next time you boot it up?

Yeah i think its like new but now i dont remeber
It will do a factory reset and also wipe internal storage.
Just to confirm what everyone's saying, I just unlocked my bootloader. It did a factory reset, then allowed me to set up face and fingerprint unlock, opt into (or out of) updates and mi services, all as it did at first boot.
Obviously, I don't yet know if it will actually get OTA updates, but time will tell (unless I root in the meantime). Also I forgot to check if mitool allows easy BL relocking and I've turned the pc off now, but everyone says it does

Moto G Power XT-2117-4 newb

I just got this phone from Boost Mobile and sent away for an unlock code. Afterwards I wanted put on a very basic ROM.
I havent done this is a while and saw some instructions on how to root and unlock the boot loader. Is rooting necessary?
Also, the stock roms people were posting are for the XT-2041 Sofia. Will this work? Thanks for any guidance.

I'm not rooted, but have Resurrection Remix installed. So, no.
I think its not possible for Boost Mobile Moto G Power (2021)
The OEM Unlock is greyed out and I cannot get it unlocked. The phone has internet, I had to activate it and get a line, but it still wouldnt unlock.
I think this is the main first step to being able to do anything? Is there ways around it?

Probably not.
Sometimes the allow oem unlock toggle is greyed out for a few days.
For some software channels, there is a delay that starts after connecting the internet.
Also sometimes a factory reset is necessary, then reconnect to internet.
Thanks for the info. I tried the factory reset without any luck. I guess Ill wait a few days and see if it unlocks.
I waited a couple days and OEM unlock toggle worked! I've unlocked the bootloader. Thanks for the help!

Confusing thread, but please read the existing threads on this topic as there are a few.
You need to SIM unlock the phone before you can unlock its bootloader.
If you have the T-Mobile variant, check this thread to see if they can SIM unlock your phone:
[CLOSED][T-Mobile USA] Free SIM Unlocking Service - [OnePlus/Samsung/Google/LG/Moto]

I haven't got a lot of time to get this out before heading out on a job, so here's the nitty gritty. A few days ago I flashed over "OnePlus_Nord_N10_5G_Metro_by_T-Mobile_OxygenOS_10.5.8" to get a clean start. I then allowed 10.5.14 to install...

No need to reboot, once you finish that, going into Developer options should allow you to set OEM Unlocking to whatever you want. Easy peasy.
If it is from T-Mobile, you'll need to go into bootloader to get the serial, unlock code, and IMEI to submit a ticket to Oneplus for an Unlock Token and then wait a week to get it.
You can skip all of that if it's direct from OnePlus - just toggle OEM unlocking in developer options then go into bootloader mode and 'fastboot oem unlock'.

Question MetroTmo variant

So, am I correct in assuming I’m unable to do anything with this device until I can sim unlock? Seems that’s a requirement for boot loader unlock. I got one of these for cheap cheap because I need an android device with out gapps but I’m thinking that’s not going to work until it’s sim unlocked. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

A couple pages back there is a thread on how to oem unlock without sim unlock. It involves running a debloat script or using adb to get rid of one service. It goes through every step you need to do to unlock.

No problem, it takes almost exactly a week to the hour to get the code. Rest of the guide should be fairly easy to follow too. Just remember if you ever you the MSMTool to get back to stock it relocks your bootloader. You'll need to unlock it again by using the file OP sends you before flashing other nonstock firmwares again

Once you get the code, you can simply use my dummies guide to full rom backup, convert to US OEM (DE2117), and root and has the "oem unlock bypass" command in the guide.
