Question Does 5G work with custom ROMs? - OnePlus 9R

I am on OOS11 and haven't updated my phone to OOS12 or OOS13 due to multiple issues. Now however I have been offered a free upgrade to a 5G plan by my service provider and hence I want to update my phone so that it has 5G capabilities. I don't want to use OOS12/13 to have to be able to use 5G so I was wondering if custom Android 12/13 based ROMs support 5G. Apologies if this is a stupid question.

YES but first you update to android 12/13
then unlock bootloader go to developer option 5g mode must be sa/nsa

S9+ Open China Upgrade

I'm in the US, but have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ SM-G9650/DS unlocked "International Version" bought from Amazon, running firmware G9650ZCU3ARK1, which I believe means it's Region "Open China" and uses Snapdragon not Exynos. I want to upgrade Android Oreo to Android 9 Pie, and there's no schedule given for availability of the upgrade for this config/region.
I'm with T-Mobile and I think I can flash G960USQS3BRK2, which is for Region "TMK USA", and convert the phone to a US version, thereafter allowing upgrade to Android 9 Pie in January 2019. And I'd prefer to have a US phone anyway.
My basic question is whether my plan will work, and/or, are there any gotchas I need to know about
(S9 vs S9+, Snapdragon vs Exynos, locked/unlocked, T-Mobile vs Samsung Experience, some apps might not work, etc)?
Thx, Gus
Hi.
There's a thread regarding this topic in this forum. As far as I've read and understood, the short answer to your question is no, it's not possible to flash the beta on our devices. We, G9650 owners (excluding China users), will most likely have to wait until the stable version releases in January. :crying:
I'm not thinking of flashing the Beta, but the release version when it comes out in January - G

Question What are the differences between global/eu/chine variants?

Hey there,
I wanted to buy a Realme GT, but I don't know the differences between all those variants. I'm unsure, if I would be buying a smartphone, which would for example have a lack of some network frequencies I had to use, currently living in Germany.
Could anyone provide me some help? Also, I wanted to root this phone and get some mods, are there any specific variant ones or are they working on all phones?
Would be really nice, if I could get some help, thanks in advance
Realme GT GLOBAL -> have all languages, 5G almost all bands except united states and china Comes with google play
Realme GT EU (or Indian version) it does have lots of languages but for example it don't have portuguese(brazil) language. it does have all bands like realme gt global. It includes some apps or stuff that is related to indian and euro market. Come with google play
Realme GT CN - Chinese variant it comes with google play services installed but no google play store. It comes with a bunch of chinese apps that are kinda useless
Both EU ,CN and Global version will have all 5G bands in germany. (Cn version have less two 4G bands so its recommended to use O2 KPN provider)
All variants can be rooted homeweaver its not recommended as realme didnt released kernel sources yet so there is no twrp (and that make rooting and updating system very HARD without bricking)
Also it is not the best device to root as you will lose in screen fingerprint after rooting.
If you want to look for a phone to root, see oneplus or xiaomi or wait realme community grow with custom roms that can use fingerprint while rooted
Here you can compare different band and combination support:
Global: https://cacombos.com/device/RMX2202_11
China: https://cacombos.com/device/RMX2202
I recommend buy Global version if you will use device outside from China.

You just have to wait, as as android 12 realme ui 3.0 update is rolling partially.
It has allready started, but not everywhere at once.

I just recently got one online for a real decent price thinking that I could load custom ROMs and all but there's nothing out there. Is there any hope for this device or is it better to just get rid of it and get another device which is more likely to be supported in the long run?

I am thinking of buying the Chinese version of this cell phone but I am somewhat hesitant about the issue of google services and updates, you say that it comes with google services installed but without the play store, so google apps and their services will work without problems if I only install the playstore?

Question Mi 11 Lite 5G (Japan Global >> Global)

Hi,
I bought a Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G off ebay which was advertised as the Global model but it appears i have the Japanese Global model instead (M2101K9R) whereas the actual Global model is M2101K9G. Would anyone know if it is possible for me to convert this over to the proper RKIMIXM Global ROM (M2101K9G) and keep my bootloader locked in the process by just flashing the fastboot ROM for Global? In other words i would like to fully convert it across to the global M2101K9G model.
i have read that flashing a Global ROM on a device for a different region can brick the phone if the bootloader is then relocked after flashing the Global ROM but wasn't sure if this was more in reference to going from the Chinese version of phone to Global rather then my situation which is going from Global Japan ROM to Global ROM.
I understand I can do this if I kept the bootloader unlocked after the flash but was hoping the bootloader would accept the Global ROM and would still work after relocking the bootloader.
Thanks in advance.
Seeing that i have my Mi account binded to my phone, i will wait another 90 hrs to be able to unlock bootloader and will attempt to answer my own question. Atleast when i relock bootloader after flashing the global ROM and worse case scenario it fails i can unlock the bootloader again and reflash the original Japanese Global MIUI for the device
dont risk your device and instead use "xiaomi eu", that way you can upgrade your device without the risk of locking the bootloader in the process

Hey, since you have the Japanese model, is the camera shutter sound always on? Even if you pick a different region for MIUI? I'm considering the Japanese model and am also curious if it would be possible to convert to Global, though like you said there's a risk of bricking so don't do it if that's a real concern. If you do try it though, let us know how it goes.
Good news, after unlocking my bootloader after 7 day waiting period i was able to successfully flash MIUI Global RKIMIXM ROM. Also relocked bootloader with Xiaomi Flash tool and the bootloader had no issues accepting global ROM.
it should be noted there's been alot of misinformation regarding unlocking/locking bootloaders and changing regions. As long as the first unlocking of bootloader was performed by your own MI account binded to the phone then after 7 day waiting period is over you can unlock/relock bootloader as often as you want immediately with no additional waiting period required. So if you have the issue where you're stuck in recovery after flashing another region ROM and accidentally relocked your bootloader in the process, it's no big deal as you just load phone into fastboot mode and unlock the bootloader again then either keep bootloader unlocked and flash whatever you want or download the proper ROM for your region then flash and relock bootloader again to be back to official stock.
Only thing is model appears to still be detected as M2101K9R in settings. Unsure if this will affect future OTA updates etc. Will provide update when i know more.

It can be muted by setting.(Any ROM/Version/Model)
Setting → Additional Settings → 'Region'
Japan or Korea = Always On
Other = Can be changed from camera settings

I ended up flashing back to Japanese ROM as realistically i had no issues with it. Was more curious to see if i could fully convert it over to Global ROM but it seems the model number as shown in Settings is hard coded perhaps in the bootloader or somewhere else and still displayed M2101K9R so i wasn't comfortable using the M2101K9G global ROM.
As for the camera shutter sound on Japanese ROM i just checked and there was a setting in the camera app itself (Camera>Settings>Shutter Sound) and you can toggle it off to silence the shutter sound.
Please, did you notice any difference between the Global ROM and the Japanese ROM? I mean in terms of settings, speed, battery etc.

I am a Japanese user using Mi 11 Lite 5G. The difference in hardware is that it is equipped with Felica, a near-range wireless communication standard developed by Sony. This is used in Japan for payments on public transportation and in stores. The difference in the software is that it takes a long time for software updates to be delivered. As the ROM is optimized for Japan, it takes longer to receive updates than the global version.
I also have japanese version but I am from México and I am using xiaomi.eu beacuse of the publicity from xiaomi stock roms, and it works flawless and felica is not used in my country so, I am fine, but... One friend of mine has the chinese global version and the cameras look sooo diferent, better in Jaoan version, even video 60fps has more stabilization. Just to say.

Question Confused: What Google Image File should I use

Have a New Pixel 6 (unlocked) I bought on PrimeDay. Currently on Xfinity which is Verizon MVNO. Do I install the Verizon VMNO image because I am using that carrier or do I install the regular image (non-Verizon) because it's not a Verizon phone? Also on a side note, some images are labeled as "softbank," "EMEA" and "APAC,"what do these refer to?
Thank you in advance
@Bad Bimr

Why?
The factory/OTA image are based on the carrier not the Manufacturer.

How did you come by this answer? Because I've been rocking Nexus and Pixel devices since 2014 and at no time have I ever installed a factory image based upon the source of my wireless service.
The correct image @Bad Bimr should be using is the non-Verizon image. Reason being his device is a) an unlocked model and b) does not have mmwave 5G, which Verizon uses in addition to standard sub-6 5G.
Installing a Verizon image on a non-Verizon device could lead to some VERY undesirable results, namely a permanently locked bootloader as Verizon locks bootloaders and will NOT unlock them.
I actually installed the Verizon/MVNO software. Bootloader is still unlocked. Phone seems to work OK but it's only been a day. When the August build comes out I may try the non Verizon build, best yet maybe I will call google and ask them, not that they would know.

My Google Pixel phone (with an unlockable bootloader) was purchased from Google but my carrier was Verizon. So, I used the Verizon Factory/OTA image when it was available. When it wasn't available I used the Global Factory/OTA image on my phone.
I think, IMHO, Google Pixel phone owners can use either the Carrier Factory/OTA image or Global Factory/OTA image.

Except for the fact an unlocked device always downloads the unlocked update if you let the P6 update itself. Now, you may be totally on point about being able to use either image, but given Verizon's penchant for f**kery, why take the risk?

I didn't know Google phones with unlocked bootloader's that take automatic updates always receive the Global OTA image because I do not take automatic updates.
If it is true all Google Pixel unlocked bootloader phones that receive automatic updates download the Global OTA image. I think people with Google Pixel phones that do not take the automatic updates should use the Global Factory/OTA image.

Installing a Verizon factory image or OTA on a non-Verizon model Pixel won't lead to a locked bootloader.

I admit to not having tried it myself. I still wouldn't risk it however, even though in this case "Verizon" applies to that variant of P6 and isn't a sign of Verizon digging its grubby paws into the system.
I simply feel it is better to be safe here than sorry.

Verizon 5G issues

Ok, so I have the SMG991U and almost every time it's in 5G I have no internet: it feels almost as though there is no date.
Tried poking around and I can't find anything but I'm sure I can't be alone. I think I had the issue with 12 (hard to say as I was carrying two phones at the time - one work one personal). Now that I'm down to one phone and this is my primary, it's pretty damn annoying (to say the least).
There are places where 5G is working fine, but most of the places when it's on 5G it's as though I have no coverage. When it rolls into 4G it's flying.
If I could set it to run 4G only that'd be great BUT there is no option for that. Any suggestions?
I'm running Android 13. All current updates. Baseband is G991USQU5DWa8
Try this dialer code and report results.
It lets you disable 5g bands. The app won't work probably, it was messed up before 13 came out, try it out and let us know!
