Question No cell or internet service after changing charging port board - Moto G Power (2021)

I recently had to change out the charging port board on my Moto G Power 2021. I ordered the board from Amazon. Ever since changing, I've had no cell or internet service. What could I have done wrong?

Wrong part. Is there more than one variant?
Is there a part number on the original pcb?

I don't know if there are multiple variants or not and there are several numbers on the original Board. See photos and thank you!

Does the cellphone antenna connect to this USB port module? if so recheck that the little connectors are plug and 'click' as they should because it's very easy to overlook and damage it or the cable part when disconnecting.

[Q] weak signal reception after changing micro-usb flex

Hi,
I had a problem with the micro-usb port/charger in my galaxy s2. It was what others have already described (constantly charging/not charging, voltage too high messages, etc). So I decided to buy a spare part for the charger, and replace it .
The first time I turned it on, The charger problem was completely solved, but I noticed the signal was gone. I realized I forgot to connect the antenna. So I opened it again and connected it. The antenna is a HF cable which connects to one end to the main board, and to the other end to the spare part I bought.
After reconnecting the cable I saw an improvement, but the signal is still much worse that before replacing it for the first time.
I bought the part here (German language):
[] IShallNotPostLinksAsANewUset []
Could it be this replacement part?? Might be a capacity adjustment problem? I don't know how are usuallry phone antennas designed. I don't know either if this part plays an important role for the antenna (it is anyway connected to the cable).
What can it be? What would you do to recover antenna sensitivity? (I do not have the broken part, it is already gone )
Best regards

Hi, after having had the same problems with charging, I also changed the micro-USB flex circuit/cable. I bought it in the UK from e-cell (on ebay) ... and same as you, I am not able to get 3G anymore, only G! Charging is solved, 3G is gone!
I do have the old part still ... will put it back on and see what happens.
UPDATE:
OK, I put the original part back in ... and 3G/H was immediately back. I can also see that the network strength is the same as with the replacement part (so it doesn't seem to be a defective antenna cable or so), but now it picks up UMTS and HSPA+, while the replacement part only caught GPRS. So what this means is that the replacement part is not the same as the original ... probably the same problem you have.
At the same time there was no miracle and the original part is still no charging unfortunately ...
I had ordered 2 other replacement parts in HongKong which should arrive in a couple of weeks ... will try those when they arrive, and hopefully at least one of them will solve the charging AND the 3G issue!
UPDATE 2:
While driving around with the phone with the replacement part, sometimes I do get E/3G/H+ signals, so it appears that the part is able to handle these ... but maybe only when the signal is very strong? Or maybe there are different types of E/3G/H+ signals?
Hi,
Experiencing the exact same behaviour, the signal is really bad (never above 3 bars). I'm going to open the phone tomorrow to make sure I left the antenna cable properly connected, but judging from what I'm seeing here, I believe the issue is with the small circuit with the USB port. I bought my part from e-cell as well....
Thank you very much for your answers guys. Now I know that my problem is not unusual. however in my case the 2g signal receptiony is also to degradated. Please keep us posted when you get the spare parts from Hong Kong. If they work I will also order 1 myself.

OK, good news ... today I got my second part, and this one seems to work just fine! 3G and H+ are back! And of course it charges.
As I ordered 2 different parts at the same time from HongKong, I am not 100% sure which one I got, but I am quite confident it is the one from mingxing200808. The item I bought is sold out now, but he relisted it (at higher price: 6.90 USD vs 3.90 USD that I paid, still worth it though). Note that the picture posted is not the same as the part shipped (which was newer, at least in my case). Also note that you need to reuse the rubber cover of the microphone (e-cell included that rubber piece). There is also no adhesive on the mingxing part, but as far as I can see you don't need that either.
Good luck!

Hi Guys, I have had this problem also after replacing the usb board, it has been a nightmare thinking that other parts may have been water damaged I replaced the loudspeaker and inner chassis which both have antenna components. After reading your post I ordered a used part from gaproducts on ebay at £3.85 and my phone is now perfect. By the way the defective one was from china via ebay and supposed to be genuine. Wish I had seen this post a month ago it would have saved me so much hassle, but hopefully will help others.
This is strange, i have the same problem after changing the Flex Cable + Charging port. I bought it from ebay (user name yake-gandi3388) so be careful. I requested a refund or replacement but not sure what the answer will be. The phone never connects now to HSDPA (H), it always stays on EDGE (E). On top of that the signal is somehow weaker than before, not significantly, but I can notice it
I thought that the Flex Cable+Charging Port are not linked to Antenna performance in any way Can someone more experienced explain a bit?
Also, anyone tested an aftermarket flex cable+charging port that is working ok, including the antenna performance and full 3G connection?
Thanks!!!
Ive followed about 10 threads about changing usb boards.About 1 person was happy, and the other 9 got other problems.
When they put their "faulty" one back in,the "new" problems vanished.
Most were replacing the board because of usb problem.
I thought they were buying faulty replacements. For all I know someone at Samsung could be "recycling" faulty parts..

I'm experiencing the exact same problems!! What's weird is that with other carriers (that work in different frequencies) my phone works just fine... I'll try buying another flex cable and will tell you the results.

Strange... I will try to check with other providers as well. On my side, I have re-contacted the Ebay member and he offered me an additional Flex Cable with no extra charge. Nice commercial initiative, however I am afraid that the next one will have the same issues Will keep you updated once it arrives.
Got this as well. I changed my USB board after it developed charging problems. The first one gave me a flashing battery icon & one of the screw holes didn't line up also. The next one fitted fine but I'm sure my signal is weaker. Compared to my friends S1 on the same network. He gets a stronger signal than me, stood in the same place. Replaced my loud speaker/antenna as I've also replaced the back chassis and think prising the speaker out might of damaged it. Think I'll try another USB board to see if it improves :S the 2nd board had the same Rev. number on it but looked slightly different to the original. (Sadly dont have the original to put back in to test)

I am signed up for a solution to this problem.
I had charging issues with the old port and replaced the board. The new board only allowed for an intermittent 1 signal bar. I put the original faulty board back in and had full signal immediately.
I ordered a second board and have the same issue. No/1 signal bar. Cannot make calls, it tells me "mobile network not available." I can connect to wi-fi with no issues though.
Unless a fix is found I am considering taking one of the new boards and my old board into a service shop and having the usb ports swapped.
Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 (AT&T)
I received a 3rd charging port board today, this one works some, but not as good as original. I'll post the number's printed on the board with there results in the phone.
Original Board: GT-i9100 REV2.2
R.B83 35
Original board worked great until it started having issues with charging/high voltage.
Replacement Board 1: GT-i9100 REV2.3
R.C42 10
This board would charge the phone and connect it to the computer, but would not connect to a network and would give no signal or a temporary 1 bar signal.
Replacement Board 2: R.B54
GT-i9100 REV2.2
This board would charge the phone and connect it to the computer, but would not connect to a network and would give no signal or a temporary 1 bar signal.
Replacement Board 3: GT-i9100 REV2.2
R.B83 36
This board both charges and connects the phone to the computer and it allows for a network signal. The network signal is not quite as good as my stock, but I think it will do.
I do not know what the board numbers mean, but I would guess the REV2.3 is an updated version of the REV 2.2. I think the compatability issue may come in the R._ numbers as Replacement Board 3 is the only one that works and is the closest R._ match. Maybe someone with far more expertise can shed some light on it, but this is my experience.

Been using the new one for over 6 months now and i would be lying if i said i had any 3G problems. And someone already asked this in this thread but no one has answered it. How are usb charging port and 3G signal linked??

The USB board has the contacts to connect to the antenna in the back of the chassis. So replacing it with a sub standard part is affecting signals

Please let us know the vendor name on Ebay. As mentioned in my previous post, the vendor (user name yake-gandi3388) agreed to change my replacement with no extra charges. I installed the new piece...the signal is a bit better than previous one...but still lower than the original.
Can anyone advise a vendor that sells replacement part Flex Cable with a strong signal?

I an sorry for for the delay. I live in Germany and I use O2 ( umts frequency in the 2100 Mhz band) . I ordered the part from Hong Kong which Geronymous cited, didn't want to make specific advertising. The user is mingxing200808.
Regarding the question why does this affect the antenna, it is because antennas need to have a certain capacitive load in order to be adjusted and to transmit in a certain frequency range. If the antenna is not adjusted the signal will be reflected back . This capacitance is defined by the geometry of the antenna and might be changed/adjusted by elements connected to the end of the antenna. So the flex part acts as an adjusted capacity load for the antenna.
This is a very rough description, but I hopeit helps.

Finally got my 3rd USB board and my signal has improved a lot! Hurrah! Got from tjuk1980 on eBay. This board is a darker blue, looks a lot better than my second board which was a lighter greener colour, the logo and writing didn't seem as clear as it does on the new one. Getting 3 of 4 bars on H+ at home where as before it would stay on G and if it did pick up 3G/H by chance it wouldn't show any bars.

Edit: picture of the dodgy board - this gave me crap service so avoid that one!

[Q] Issues after replacing the usb connector

Hi, so I just got my samsung s2 repaired at a local repair shop here in Oslo. My usb connector was broken, and I wasn't able to charge my phone. I know they replaced the entire bottom "card" with the microphone and usb connector. Now I am having issues with my signal strength, could it be a coincidence or is it most likely connected to the repairs?
Thank you

We cannot know for sure now. Try these steps to test:
1. Use your SIM in a different phone.
2. Use a different SIM in your phone.
3. Change the modem of your phone.
Click the link in my signature, from there you can access a guide by keithross39 regarding the board replacement. In it, he mentions that a possible scenario is signal loss after usb port & board.
Definitely try the things immortalneo posted. If you don't have any luck then look at the link and read that.

[Q] HTC EVO LTE Charging issue.

Ok, im trying to figure out why this phone wont charge or connect to pc via usb. I have done testing on the port, and it appears the port is good. and it seems to be making good contact with the board. I have posted pics of the port and the area that connects to the board. I have checked the continuity from a cut usb cable i have, plugged it in port and have good continuity across all the pins of the port. My question is, are the pads on the other side of the pcb points for the usb port? becuase i have no continuity on any of the points with any pin in the cable. the phone turns on, i bought a brand new battery and screen for the phone, i got it for free from someone and it was completely shattered. I have about 75 dollars invested in it. It works perfectly, completely virgin no root or unlocked bootloader. Running the latest update.
I also posted a pic of the jtag pads, there is no continuity on any of those either to the USB. Nor any other pad on the board anywhere. And i think thats odd, there should be one somewhere.
Sorry if i posted this in the wrong area, mods can move it if they need to.

Oh yea, ive done all the obvious things to try and figure it out. When i got it, they said it just quit charging, so i figured it was the battery, so i bought a brand new battery, which came charged, and a new screen, since it was shattered. It turns on, works perfectly, but it will no charge or connect to pc. ive tried 4 or 5 different cables, and ive wiggled and bent and pushed and pulled and everything else on them to try and get a sign of connectivity. So far ive come up with nothing.. This appears to be a common problem with this model, i guess i should have researched it more before i spent so much on parts for it.
Maybe the circuit board is fried.

As in the port lost connection to the board/broke? or this same situation, where it just quit working for no reason? The port is working as it should, and making good connection with the board. I'm stumped. If the port was broken, i could replace the port, no problem, but im 100% positive the port is not the issue here.

LG G5 discovers usb without cable inserted

hi,
i am a proud g5 user who has now some troubles with his lg.
almost all 3 seconds my g5 discovers a usb wire conection and dismisses the messages after aproximate 1 second (sometimes later, and sometimes before) and this without a wire.
it happens after my mom sat on it and the usb port is now not as tight than before. i got a loose connection if i move the wire back, but that was it.
it wont charge corectly and get many disconects like the usb conection but inverted.
i opened the bottom module but the usb port is fine. there is some gloßy clear film on the pcb and the smal usb contacts. it havent a break, so i think its fine.
i was about to buy the hifi module but i want to ask bevore if the original module is the problem or if its something with the motherboard?
or if i can repair it by my self (reflashing ofw, the new bottom module etc)
if someone got a nice answer, please, answer asap o.o
thank you guys
and sorry about my crappy english, even in my mother language i am bad :X

Well. The only possible problem now is the bottom PCB piece that make contact to the module. If it's cracked/bent then you have to replace the whole motherboard.

lol I dont the one that was doing it is hard bricked from obviously failed test.
I checked it pretty good with a jewelers loop I thought it might be a crack from being put on and off so much but didnt see anything
I think it was in the firmware on mine once I downgraded to an older firmware it didnt do it
but i bricked it a day later it happend all the time and everyday though at least 5 times and hour

thanks for your replys, so you think its only the botton piece? i was about to change it with the hifi module. if i buy it its posible that the error disapears?
is it posible that the bottom pcb can shortcut (or so) so that the phone discharges faster?
it even wont fastcharg at all. even if the charge icon apears the phone doesnt load correctly...
forget to mention its the h850 (if i remember correctly)

You said that your mom sat on the phone. Like. On a sofa? Or a hard surface?
If the place your mom sat on the phone is soft like a bed or a sofa then probably the pressure has ben put on the end of the cable and the port itself. The type-c port has mini solders that connect to the pcb that breaks. So just try the Hifi plus module and test it out. If it's fast charging again then Replace the module only.
If the Hifi plus produce the same results (not fast charging/not charging correctly). If you are out of warranty coverage then you could try and take the phone apart and look for the PCB pieces at the bottom that connects to the module. If it's cracked/curved/bent then your motherboard has to be replaced. Hope that clears up for ya.

sadly i buyed it for 180€ and dont know if its worth it to put much more money in it. the motherboard conectors are all fine, the usb-port isnt tight as before now, so i thought the same and riped the bottom module apart. the conector looks just fine to me, thats why i wonder and why i am not sure if a repair is worth it. I thought to solder it anew but its to fine. the pcb is coated with some gloßy stuff, and i think even if i get a hotair solderstation i cant repair it.
yes my mom sat on it while it was on my couch, she even didnt feel that it was there.
the hifi module costs 75€ and the back cover isnt all that nice (many damages in the alluminium) so i want to replace that to if its worth.
i saw today that it doesnt detects usb from pc, it detects itself(?). it says that the otg is used and want to get charged, so it opens the menu to change the usb options. for me it looks like a shortcut but i cant explain how this can happen if its only the type c port. is type c that easy to destroy? easyer than microusb? (i ask because its my first type c device)
thanks for your held and advice

i saw today that it doesnt detects usb from pc, it detects itself(?). it says that the otg is used and want to get charged, so it opens the menu to change the usb options. for me it looks like a shortcut but i cant explain how this can happen if its only the type c port. is type c that easy to destroy? easyer than microusb? (i ask because its my first type c device)
thanks for your held and advice

Just go to a store and try a different module.
And i dont recommend the Hifi plus module.
Sure. The headphone jack is down at the bottom and the quality is better if you have the equipment and GIGANTIC music files.
You are using a H850. Just unlock your bootloader and get Viper4android. Save your money, like buying 2 modules for spares if your mother decides to sit on the phone again
Pretty sure the type c is better for the future. I mean. If a micro usb device falls into the same situation as yours then i don't think that the port might survive or replaceable as easy as the G5

you were right, it was the module. my mom buyed a new one on ebay.
and i dont want to unlock it and cfw it, the ofw is fine for me ^^ its like lg thougt about almost every thing, my z5 feels like trash when i operate it
oh, and i think type-c cables areent that easy to brake, against the micro usb i think the port will faster be damaged than the cable, unlike micro usb, and i think this could be a problem for me D:
oh and do you know if it transmit data in 3.0, 3.1 or only 2.0? i got to many diferent answeres

The G5 is the same as the HTC 10
I the type c port on both of them are fully COMPLIANT to the Type-C standards.
But the Voltage on the charging line overrides the Type-C standards of 5 volts, but HTC and LG modifies it so it can go up above 5 volts
Other wise comparing the transfer rate between the my HTC one m8 and my LG G5, the G5 is definitely faster

Jeah, my g5 is feeling faster, but i can be wrong.
What i mean is, if it uses the 3.0/3.1 standart, or uses the port the same like the huawei p10 (it uses 2.0)
I know that androids are way slower than an regular usb stick, but there is a cpu betwen the memory, also no direct writing.
That the one m8 slower is is strange, and that keeps my questioning.
(Urgh sry for typos im reLy not the best in english and autocorrect annoys too)
EDIT:
compliant means fully asigned pins, am i right?

Compliant means it matches the Type-c standards

Charging only with specific one usb cable

So my phone charges fast only with one usb cable that i have and it is not branded instead a very out of shape cable (left one in photo)
I have other branded cables as well but it hardly reaches even 400mA but those cable charge other device pretty well but not my kenzo
Now i have tried different rom, different kernel , flashed thermal libs but nothing seems to work.
I also have a original sub pcb which was changed due to mic problem and changing to that isn't working either.
So what can be the problem ? is it the usb port ? or like anything else?
It would be great if someone could help me with this please

I do not speak English so I will turn to the translator.
Connect the phone to the computer, if the computer gives an error or does not recognize it directly, it changes the flex that goes from the motherboard to the sub motherboard, what happens is that to have a load greater than 400 mAh the tracks of the data and in my opinion that is the problem you have, the same thing happened to me and with changing the flex it was enough, if the flex is ok then change the charging port that also fails

Well the phone gets recognized and i transfer data regularly no problem with that but the issue is just with charging.
Still i just now changed the flex that connects motherboard and sub board and the issue still remains.
I guess i will have to change the sub pcb and see if that helps or not.
