return to stock - LG V30 Questions & Answers

anyone know how to get my V30 back to stock software and relock the bootloader? im on a A12 rom and just wanna trade it in clean

You don't say which model V30 you have -- H930, H930DS, VS996, H931, etc. But see this thread below where someone asked the same question about the Europe H930. If you do not have an H930 you would need to use whatever appropriate firmware you need.
Read posts 2, 3, 4 especially.
Remove root and return to stock on LG V30 H930
Hi guys. I don't know much about rooting and customizing your phone. My ex-boyfriend insisted that if I want a really good phone I'd have to root it and stuff. Right now I am running V22j-EUR-XX with the Android security patch from 1st of April...

For US998, refurbish flash the last Oreo US998 KDZ (full stock image). I think 20H? Anyway, last Oreo. Don't bother trying to flash any of the 30 Pie KDZ. Some people have had trouble with the Pie releases, getting stuck on boot up. And all you're going to do anyway is trade this phone in. So take it back to the last stable full stock Oreo image.
After flashing the full image, then you'll need to go back into ADB and relock the bootloader.

I included it in all the KDZ threads as well as the WTF Instructions. Go to the US998 Oreo KDZ thread in the ROMS/Firmware section.
See post #1 attachments. And read point #2 of post #1.

For bootloader unlock purposes, use the US998 KDZ versions with pre-July 2018 security patch: I recommend 20a or 20b. Look at the names for dates in the title. You can always update to newer firmware later, AFTER bootloader is unlocked...

At the bottom of Post #1 of the US998 thread, where the Attachments are, when I click on the attachment, it's there. It goes to the Windows Download screen to verify where I want to download.
This is from the US998 thread, but it's also in the WTF Instructions thread and the Frankenstein thread.

okay i managed to get ahold of another PC to try this and im still getting the same result. LGUP does not detect my phone in download mode, ive tried the 4.4.2 and 4.8.0 drier for LG drivers and still nothing

USB 2.0 or 3.0? 2.0 is more compatible. You may have to order a USB 2.0 hub off eBay or something.
I thought at first you weren't finding the Dev Patched LGUP attachment. But it's the phone not being recognized that's the problem...

The fact is that the 3 tot are exactly the same, If you open the F400L tot with winhex, replace the model number and firmware version string. you should got a new F400S tot based on F400L tot

With the suggestion given by wolfgart, I was able to transform a f400l into a f400k:
1) edit build.prop in system folder changing ro.model to the model you like
2) flash the firmware you desire with the info in OP using the dll and tot of the version you want to obtain.
That's all.
It's probable (I'm not sure anyway) that the three versions f400l, f400k and f400s are the same from the hardware point of view.

I also have a F400L. Can doing this have any detrimental effect on the modem? Each model has different LTE bands which I thought was hardware restricted.
Thanks

Absolutely not, at least for me here in Italy! LTE is working perfectly here in Milan, and in the mountains I had some problems to connect to UMTS with the L version firmware and no problem with the F400k. You can always go back if you have problems.
first off i wanna say thanks for these..
does anyone know which variant is the GSM and which is the CDMA?
i've already started on aosp but i started off doing the binary blobs with a system dump someone posted a week or so back..
I'm very interested in the G3 unfortunately we don't have them available in Canada so i can do so much..
If one of these variants work in Canada, and if someone finds a very good price i would be interested .. I can only do so much without the device.
thanks..
if or for those that don't know me, I'm a member of Paranoid Android and i currently have a g2 thread up on the g2 forums.

All the H939G owners (Israel and Italy) have been flashing it and it works fine. Several Israel H930G people have posted in here.
Some of them also then bootloader unlocked and rooted, but just upgrading to this Oreo is just that -- an update.
You didn't receive it in settings for the same reason the H930G Italy people haven't yet. LG doesn't care. This H930 Oreo KDZ works for H930 and H930G.
It's up to you. I could find the speciic Israeli posts but I'm busy at work right now.

it's all right here in the KDZ post. You download the KDZ. You download either LGUP or Uppercut. Uppercut probably would work better for your situation right now, but you can install both. Then you open LGUP and or Uppercut and flash as "upgrade".

Here's how to flash:
padmanek said:
* To simply flash the .kdz you can use LG UP + Uppercut method (the most simple way), no need to mess with any .dlls.
* If you don't want to use Uppercut (why not?) you can use the .dll I extracted from the KDZ. I attached it to this post. It's clean, unpatched. It needs to be placed inside \LG Electronics\LGUP\model\common folder. You will have to create common folder. It's not there by default. Basic LGUP looks like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
* If you want to have the developer LG UP version (overkill for just flashing a KDZ ) then you need both patched .dll and patched LGUP.exe. Attached a .zip that simply has to be unpacked in the LGUP folder and it will work right away. Dev LG UP looks like this:
All you really need is the UPGRADE function
.DLL for all the variants I've found firmwares on XDA was the same.

NOTE: If upgrading from Nougat to Oreo, you can still use Uppercut. If you are already on Oreo, this version of UPPERCUT does not work. You have to just use LGUP. Contact XDA dev @autoprime for any questions about Uppercut.
I've added @Whiskeyomega's Oreo DLL to these attachments, while keeping @padmanek's original Nougat DLL.

Great guide @ChazzMatt !
do note, that if you install the h930 rom on the Israel H930G - you might lose the hebrew option, and restoring it for good will probably require root privileges. all i'm saying that there is a chance... (and if you do end up on keeping the hebrew language, you will need to force RTL on developers options). it might be better if you wait for the offical Israel update, unless you can't resist the itch

I also have a problem with the AFH servers for some reason.
Here is a google drive link that i have download with and used

In my experience, updates do arrive here in israel, but it takes time. no one knows how long you will need to wait (for my galaxy s4, it took 4 months after the update, but for my father galaxy s4 it took 1.5 years! the only difference was the different carrier)
As iv'e said, if you don't want to wait, you can download the kdz, but do note that there might me some problems with the Hebrew language that will require you to gain root acsses in-order to fix (with morelocal)
but why do you want to get oreo right now? untill now i was doing find with my nogut lg v30, and the only reason i upgraded to oreo was the root

Hey @Orof, do you know if I can rollback to the original Ronlight version if I want to use my warranty?
And if so, where can I found their original build?

These are the files that are required in-order to go back. now the question is can you roll back?
I havn't tried it myself, but as far as my understending goes, there shouldn't be any problem reverting back using LGUP. of course i take no responsibility of such action, but it's nice to have that option. (when i had the galaxy s4, i also returned to stock and reverted from marshmallow to lolipop without a problem)
please update us with your progress if you ever try to do so
Thank you for that info, I'll consider upgrading tonight!
BTW, you mentioned that there is no Hebrew lang (only to be added by morelocale2) but do the built in keyboard has Hebrew lang on board or need I install 3rd party keyboard?
I had hebrew (just had to force rtl in developer mode) but my brother lost it (hence, using morelocal2). If i recall correctly, once he used morelocal2, he also regained the stock hebrew keyboard. It doesn't really matter to us, as we are using swiftkey

V30+ US998 Won't Update to Oreo

Greeting All,
I just bought a "Refurbished" LG V30+ from fleabay and I'm having some issues... It will not update to Oreo.
Below are details:
The phone is factory reset
It has Android 7.1.2
When I try to update it says it is the latest version
The software version is US99810d
The hardware is LG-US998
(I'm on T-mobile)
I tried to use LG Bridge and it does connect (I did a back-up)
HOWEVER, when I click on Software Update I get "Cannot check the software version. Try again"
If I click on "Update error recovery" I get "Your phone information cannot be checked. Contact LG..."
Any ideas??? OR should I send it back???
THANKS

See the US998 Oreo KDZ (plural) in Development section and update with one of those. If you care about bootloader unlock and root, don't update to 20D first. Use 20A or 20B, unlock bootloader then update to 20D.
Instructions are in post #1 of the thread.

1) My three "original" (genuine) US998 bought from B&H Photo were only recognized as having older software one time by LG Bridge. All the other times I had to update them manually with the dev patched LGUP and full image KDZ.
2) It's entirely possible it's not an an "original" US998, but is a converted LS998. Ever since we discovered Frankenstein, so have eBay sellers. Carrier unlocked US998 is more valuable, versatile.
3) Full image KDZ is better than partial image OTA. However, LG Bridge should work to do that, but apparently doesn't.
ChazzMatt.... THANKS!!!
I followed your directions... used LGUP/Uppercut and it worked perfectly!!!!
I'm now on US99820b.
I would like to root my phone (so I can delete some bloat and use advanced features in Tasker).
And then upgrade to US99820d using the "Upgrade" button on LGUP/Uppercut. (I think this correct??)
Could you point me the right direction (I'm a noob with this stuff) to root the phone.
I don't plan of installing any custom ROMs so I don't think I will need TWRP??? Or to unlock the bootloader???
Thanks again for all your help!!!!
Cheers,

Now that you are actually on Oreo, future updates will use dev patched LGUP instead of Uppercut. Uppercut won't work on Oreo.
You need bootloader unlock and TWRP to root.
See the WTF bootloader unlock and root thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/wtf-lg-v30-t3790500
After that, you can update to 20D.

The link you provided goes to your thread in which the old 20b kdz is for H930 (according to android file host website). Yet the OP has US998.
Is it still ok for people like the OP who have US998 to update to H930 20b KDZ and then unlock bootloader or should we stick with kdz for the US998 only?

No, it doesn't. You're confused about something. The link you quoted in your post goes to all the US998 KDZ thread.
In that thread, all the links go to to specific US998 KDZ -- 20A, 20B, and 20D.
I can't help how Android Host Files categorizes stuff. My folder is simply "V30" -- and inside that I have over a dozen US998, Hong Kong H930DS, Canadian H933, European H930 KDZ. Don't overthink it. If the file name says US998 it's US998.
Here's a screenshot of my Android Host Files folders. All my V30 stuff is inside the V30 folder, period.. If Android Host Files then categorizes that as H930 -- for whatever reason, that's not me and I have no control over that.

See my screenshot. I have v30 folder, a generic Android folder, a Moto Maxx folder. All my V30 KDZ are inside my V30 folder. I do not have any folders or sub-folders called H930. I have an H930 KDZ with a dozen other KDZ inside my V30 folder.
Here's all my V30 KDZ listings:
https://androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=241704
I think Android Host Files calls ALL V30 "H930". I saw another person question another developer about this, "Is it safe to flash because it's in the H930 folder?" I want to yell, Look at the KDZ title!" Of course it's safe.

Questions on Frankenstein phone on US99820b
Hi ChazzMatt,
I also do have a few newbie questions on the Frankenstein phone.
Thanks to you great tutorial I upgraded from AT&T H931 successfully to the US998 (FW: US99820b).
I am not interested in bootloader unlock or rooting the device.
1. Why does the phone not upgrade to US99820d via OTA or LG Bridge? Any way to turn that on?
2. How do I best upgrade to US99820d? Using the Upgrade function in the modified LGUP and your 20d KDZ file?
Would that require a total reset of the phone with all my personal data?
3. Does that also apply to Security Updates? Do they have to be done manually through 20x KDZ updates?
Thanks,
Scusa

Simple "upgrade" using LGUP will update to newer KDZ while keeping data. (This is only if you do not have TWRP.) Make sure you choose "UPGRADE", and not any other option. By the way, 20E is the latest posted in the US998 KDZ thread.
Takes 5 minutes, you keep all your settings and data.

I also have a supposed US998 from ebay and would like to know why it will not update. Does LG block updates to phones if they have been cross-flashed to a different version (if that's what happened)? Are these sellers knowingly selling phones that cannot be updated normally?
Thanks!

I have the exact same situation, V30+ from eBay and no OTAs - had to flash manually. For what I paid for this hardware I'm more than willing to live with the minor inconvenience of having to download a KDZ and flash it for updates, but I would also much prefer it if I could get the OTAs. I'm guessing it has to do with it being Frankensteined and LG only pushing OTAs to it for the original ROM, which it is no longer running...but I would love to know if anyone has a more formal understanding of this issue.

I have three original US998 V30/V30+ and NONE have gotten OTA except one time with Nougat. Since then I've had to manually update via LGUP.
Last weekend, I just manually updated my wife from 20A to 20E via Dev Patched LGUP. Bootloader is still locked on hers, came back from LG with new display a couple of months ago. B&H Photo US998 V30.
I actually prefer full image KDZ to partial image OTA. And while it's true OTA is probably based on IMEI, that doesn't explain why I'm not being offered OTA, at least with hers which has not been modified in any way.
holy crap. I've been away from xda (or flashing phones) for too long!
I just bought v30+ us998 on ebay and it seems like LS998 convert. so in order to unlock bootloader, I have to flash to 20a or b first? Or can I do it now (7.1.2) and update to latest one 20e?
what's good apps these days for rooted phones?

Read WTF INSTRUCTIONS.
For US998 yes, you need early Oreo 20A or 20B to unlock bootloader, install TWRP -- then you can update to US998 20E by flashing 20E "ROM" (stock firmware KDZ in TWRP-FLASHABLE zip file)
@ChazzMatt,
First, thanks for all your help. After I noticed my LG V30+ was not receiving updates, I was able to update the software to US99820b following your instructions. However, I still have one point I am not clear about.
Correct if I am wrong but, from what I understood, you recommend to update to 20a or b in case I am planning to root my device (since rooting after updating to 20d would not work). In case I am not planning to root, Can I use the same process to, using LGUP, to update straight to 20d?
Is there any specific reason why I'd want to root my device before upgrading to 20d?
Thanks again,
DC

LG V30+ LS998 sprint convert to H90DS/ EU?

Dear XDA members
Thank you for your time in the first place!!
Im new on XDA, and know a little about roms/twrp/flashing/rooting on my previous S7.
Im living in the Netherlands, Europe.
A guy sold a nice LG V30+ second hand, and i thought it was all okay.
But then i found out it is a Sprint LS998! omg! A locked US version, and i live in Europe! Of course the guy i bought it from is long gone.
Is there anyone, or any way, to " convert" this ****ty Sprint to a "EU" version of the LG V30+?
Of course i want to unlock the SIM also, and unlock the boatloader, and root it, and if someone knows a nice rom i will prefer that over stock also.
Is there anybody who can help me, or do i have throw my money away and cannot use the phone in the EU?
Really much thanks!!!!!!!

You can convert to US998, AS998, H933, VS996.

Thank you! I just found out i can use the ls/sprint 998 frequencys it have now,
So i dont have to change the radio firmware i think?
But, it is still simlocked and dont accept my Dutch T-Mobile simcard.
Is there any way to remove it?
I see people offering it on ebay but they say the OTA update wont be working any more.. i still want it to be 100% functional as original.
Also it is still in English, isnt there are way to flash a EU/multilanguage rom to it, a original rom? Or is the only way to have Dutch language with a custom rom?
1000x thanks.

New into LG so will have to be carefull.
And also need to downgrade first to Nougat.
Do you know if OTA updates will work if i get it working on Oreo US998? And do you maybe know if i can unlock the BL at the same time so i can flash a rom like Linage OS to it?

Focus first on converting to US998. You have to
* downgrade (temporarily) to US998 Nougat first, using dev patched LGUP,
* then do a Master Reset (VERY IMPORTANT to stabilize!),
* then upgrade to Oreo, using dev patched LGUP.
The Frankenstein instructions lay it all out.
Any North American V30/V30+ (and probably V30S) can be converted to any other North American V30/V30+/V30S -- except for T-mobile H932 (as it has different RSA encryption). So, one of the main uses of Frankenstein is to SIM card unlock the Sprint LS998 V30/V30+ and AT&T H931 V30 phones, by converting them to one of the carrier unlocked models -- like open market US998/regional carriers' AS998/Canada H931/Verizion VS996.
But US998 is the only one of those that ALSO has fastboot flash commands, which is necessary for bootloader unlock. So, US998 became KING of the North American variants.

Once you do that, then you can take a break while you peruse the WTF bootloader unlock instructions. But your phone will already be functional for you. For WTF, I suggest you print out the instructions and read them thoroughly. Really, have a hard copy on hand. Also, you need to read in web browser as at least XDA app truncates some of it.

Thanks man, but it did not work.
I was able to flash to 99810D (nougat) from the link, and then i did a master reset, and then i wanted to upgrade to Oreo, and selected the correct 20B Version(like you stated, so i should be able to unlock the BL) but it said this:
Error: 0x4 Not support cross model download LS998 to US998.
I cannot flash back nougat also, because that will give me a error at 36%... ****!

Trust me, it will work. You just have to keep trying.
*'Close out LGUP, reboot the computer, try again.
* Reboot the phone, then go into download mode manually before opening LGUP.
* Also some people (Canada H931 especially) found they had to DL Partition to Oreo from Nougat, they could not use "upgrade" option. So, try that also.
It works for everyone but you sometimes have to finagle a little.

See?
It's computers. Your PC and the handheld computer V30. They act wonky sometimes.

Yeah, well genius Albert Einstein (who I do respect, of course) never converted an LG V30 to another variant nor bootloader unlocked and rooted a phone. Also credited to Ben Franklin and Mark Twain, so Einstein probably never really said it.
But every time I hear that quote, I just shake my head. Does NOT apply whatsoever to computers. You CAN do the same thing several times and get totally different results. But it eventually works.

ChazzMatt, seems my life is a disaster sometimes. Maybe Einstein can help, well,
I followed every single step in the WTF forum, and tried all 3 adb methods, none of them go any further than < waiting for any device > when i give the final command to fastboot flash unlock new_unlock.bin
I tried other USB ports, and OEM unlock and Developer mode are 100% enabled. It is also seeing it as US998 when i command adb devices.
The security patch is from May 1, 2018. Software version is US99820b according to About Device..
Any genius idea's i can follow? thnx

The touch does not work after installing h930 pie KDZ on us998 converted

Hello friends, I do not know if I have really damaged my phone. It is the h931 model converted to us998. Because of my desire to have a foot, I installed a KDZ of the European model h930. At the beginning the rom started without problems, after I noticed that it had no signal, I installed the Oreo us998 modem and it was still without a signal, so I went back to oreo us99820h and when it starts the screen it is welcome, the touch does not work for me. Any solution to this problem, I would appreciate suggestions and help. Thank you so much ♥

You screwed up.
NEVER NEVER NEVER flash stock H930* firmware over any North American variants. It says so in all the Instructions.
You ignored all warnings. WHY? Every Pie H93O* KDZ and TWRP flashable zip says "ONLY for H930, H930G, H930D, H930DS. Do NOT ask if others can flash this!"
Flash back to US998 Nougat to repair your damage. PARTITION DL, all partitions in Dev Patched LGUP.
Then use one of the 4 workarounds in post #6 of the US998 PIE KDZ thread to update to US998 Pie.
Did you not read about those? They are mentioned top of post #2. Go to Post #6 of the US998 Pie KDZ. Workaround #3 and #4 work for everyone. Two people yesterday said #4 worked for them.
Here's one:

Try temporarily flashing back to US998 Nougat via Partition DL mode, all partitions. See if that fixes touch. Then update to US998 Pie again.

I'm almost out of answers. All I can suggest is Partition DL to H933 Nougat. Temporarily. See if that works, then back to US998 Nougat, then update back to US998 Pie.
Is it possible your digitizer just happened to fail same time you were doing all this?

Exactly, I think that by flashing that KDZ h930, some file or something that handles the hardware of the screen has broken.

Hello Friend. I've been thinking and well, could you tell me that a "Dump" file,? Could you solve the problem with that or is it more risky?

Never used Dump file, so don't know. That's a function of LGUP where you can theoretically restore original partitions if you have a "dump" prior to making any changes. You've already made changes.
