Question Wifi trouble - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Got my S23 ultra yesterday
Version : S918B/DS
The wifi connection is unstable: I have a wifi 6 5Ghz hot-spot and after a moment I have on my phone a "no internet" wifi shown in the parameters, with real no connection on the phone. My other phones and computers still having internet (the wifi Hotspot is working perfectly).
1st time it happens to me (old S20U and 21U never got this problem)

Try to connect manually with dns 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1

I have the same issue and manually setting dns didn't work.
It seems that the problem is only with wifi 6 beacause with others wifi networks (not 6) I haven't problems

I'm using Wifi 6 and don't have any issues with my S23 Ultra

Maybe tell us your router and OS on it.

Hey there,
I'm in France as well, and do have the exact same issue with Wifi 6. Sometimes it does works great, but is really, really inconsistent in the long run. Looks like clear software issue.
My previous S21 Ultra (Exynos) was rock solid with hyper fast speeds. New S23 Ultra does even worse than my cheap Xiaomi tablet.
Hope it's just for now and future updates will fix that.

I'm also not having issues with connecting to the WIFI6 networks.
Router
Huawei OptiXstar HG8147X6

Double-check that the router is not using TKIP or both, only AES is now supported. WPA2 or preferably WPA3.

Thanks for the AES tip. Did that. The response when in wifi 6 (not E) seems a little better but the speedtests are still a choppy in some ways. I Hope a firmware upgrade will fix that, as the S21 Ultra didnt suffer from it.

FYI everyone, I just got the Feburary software update but this issue with WiFi 6 networks and connectivity loss is still not fixed. WiFi 6E and WiFi 5 works fine, it's only WiFi 6 networks that are having issues.
What the hell is taking Samsung so long to fix it? They need to acknowledge it immediately. These reports are all over the Internet now on every forum, from Reddit to XDA to Samsung forum itself. This is clearly a driver issue that needs to be fixed ASAP.

I am having the same issue with no internet connection even though I am connected to WIFI 6 5gHz.
If I cycle the wifi on and off it connects and works normally for some long amount of time.
I have a TP link AX6000 And did not have an issue with my Galaxy S22 Ultra.

I had WiFi 6 (now upgraded to 6e) and no issues with either.

Same boat.. coming from S22U Ultra and no issues with TP Link AX6000, but a few minutes with screen off, and the S23 Ultra loses connection. Really annoying

Looks like a known issue. Would expect an update to fix it.
Your Galaxy S23 Wi-Fi problem is being faced by others, too!

Hi, i seem to experience some WiFi trouble since last firmware.
I tried to connect to WiFi in the train the other day and it connected but said there was no internet. Normally once connected it should have opened a web page to input log in.
I did try this earlier with the original firmware version and it worked well back then.
Hope they fix it in next update.

Got the new update and I have same issue with wifi, US Unlocked!

Solution seems to be switch to 5G until they work out the issues with WiFi 6.

Hi guys
All my home setup is all based on Ubiquiti equipment; router, switches and AP. Not using a router for WiFi - sucks. My AP supports WiFi5 and 6 and both are enabled. Never had any problems with either my S22 Ultra or now S23 Ultra, both connects to WiFi6 - 5 GHz and my older devices uses 2.4 GHz - WiFi 5.
On my S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra I've speeds around 900Mbit up/down. Upgraded my AP a month ago, was thinking about a WiFi 6e AP but dropped it...no need since my fiber i 1Gbit U/D. Both S22 and S23 connects to AP with 1200 Mbit, using WPA3 Personal.
Don't know if this is for any help, but I hope.
Regards DeHAWK.

Hello everyone, do you still have the wifi problem?

I noticed I'm having an issue with WIFI 6E when watching videos on Facebook or Youtube, its aggravating. If I toggle wifi, it works again until I start watching videos again. Disable wifi and have no issues watching video on Verizon 4G LTE or 5G. I have an unlocked S23 Ultra.

[Q] Slow wifi?

Anyone else experiencing slow wifi performance with the Galaxy S II?
Running the speedtest.net app against the same server with all the same settings, from my Nexus One I get 8100kbps down, 1100kbps up. On the Galaxy S II I get 1900kbps down, 1100kbps up. The phones were next to each other, and I ran the tests several times and always got very similar results.
Will be flashing with the latest firmware later today (currently it has the O2 firmware on) but just wondered if anyone else was seeing similar issues?
Strange you say that i keep getting max 1900 down on my mobile internet no matter where i go.

You should read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056633 Maybe it helps
My Wifi super fast .
jje
I get
ping: 52 down:8099kbs up:734kbs on phone
ping: 45 down:11450kbs up:690kbs on laptop
so not much difference
ping 46ms, down 14585kbps, up 4807kbps
over wifi with one bar signal at other end of house.
On Virgin 50Mb service here, and didnt expect anything much more over my wifi.
Weird.
My wifi signal strength as reported by Wifi Analyzer is actually slightly better on the S II than it is on the Nexus One. The firmware update has made no difference to the performance I'm seeing.
Will try it on the work wifi network tomorrow and see if that shows any different behaviour...

i hope so because i get superb wifi range and performacne on my nexus one with 2.3.3. my gut feeling is the SGS2 would be a step down and i wouldnt get wifi signal in certain parts of my house where i do with the n1.
The wifi is nothing short of excellent as far as I'm concerned:

Even though you're connected to the same wifi network the two phones could've connected to different channels. On my desktop I get everything from 1Mbps (very rarerly) to 140Mbps (more likely) and that stays at the same spot all the time
And it got nothing to do with signal strength either as I can have full bars on my desktop and still get 1Mbps (or 20 or 40 or 80 and so forth).

Jammy git!
Orange's data in Bristol has slowly been getting worse. I was barely touching 400kbps the other day. Seemed to speed up a little today though.
I am also experiencing poor wifi speeds. On speedtest.net with my home router, SG2 is getting 0.6 Mbps download speed where my pc is getting 7.5 Mbps. More than 10 times slower?! Any ideas?
Slow Wi-Fo on SGS 2
I have exactly the same problem with my new Galaxy S II. Put the iold SGS and the new SGS 2 side by side and the SGS gets 5.3mbits/s (the broadband connection speed roughly) and the new SGS2 gets 0.9-1.2Mbits/s.
As I have a dual mode g/n router I have tried changing channels on it, turning off n support and everything else I can think off. The wireless router by the way is an Edimax model that works absolutely fine with everything else in the house.
I have also tried eveal different broadband speed tests, all with roughly the same result.
Anyone have any ideas? Mine is that Samsung did their usual thing and released the product with a great big bug in it that won't get fixed for months..sigh.
Slow Wi-Fi Fixed
Got it!
Changed the router to channel 6 (I'd already tried 7,9 and 11) and ..it now works just as well as the old SGS or anything else in the house.. with b/g/n enabled on the AP.
Happy man.
No issues here, Speedtest.net Android app giving me just under 15mb on my 16mb connection which is pretty much the same as I get with my laptop.
Slow Wi-Fi on SGS 2
Well..having thought that a channel change on the AP router fixed it..it did..but only for three or four speed tests, then without changing anything on the router it reverted back to ~1 Mbit/s.
So..I reset the router without changing any settings and lo and behold the SGS 2now seems to be functioning correctly again, with download speeds the same as my other systems.
So, if you're getting the same problem try a channel change on the AP ..or just reset it, it might work. It's also possible of course that the router has a bug and the 'n'th system that connects to it gets these problems. I'll set up another AP and see if the problem stays with the phone or follows the AP.
I had similar problems with very poor wifi. With speeds much worse than my wifes iphone 4 and and my old iphone 3gs. It did seem to be intermittent, but it happened on two different routers numerous channels and settings. I sent it back to and am getting a replacement.
I am also getting slow wifi speeds. Like 1,5 mbit instead of 8 mbit. Reconnected lots of times. Changed channels to 2 instead of 1.
Changed to WEP instead of WPA+WPA2, but nothing helped.
With vodafone i get just 3,6 mbit(max)
Anyone got an idea?
any body can help ? i have this problem too ! slow wifi with very bad signal power !
no body can help ? its hard to use wifi in this phone ...

5Ghz Wifi stopped connecting

Hi guys -
I'm having a problem with the 5Ghz Wifi on my Verizon Galaxy S4 - it just stopped connecting all of a sudden.
I've now had this problem on 2 Galaxy S4 phones. The first one, it stopped working after 5 days. The second (this one) 16 days as of last night.
(I exchanged the 1st within my 14 day return period).
No changes - no updates - just stopped randomly working on the phone - other items like my Computers and Wifi Bridge work fine with the 5Ghz.
I've read the threads where others have the same issue. Trying to connect, it won't do anything when I click on the name, try connecting and then just go back to saying "Saved, Secured", or say Authentication Error. It connects and works right next to the router, or when it has full signal, but drops if I move away from the Router. I've also tried all the suggestions in the other threads.
To ensure it wasn't the Router, I replaced it the first time around, and still had the same behavior.
What I don't understand, is that the Phone will connect fine to 2.4Ghz networks, but not 5Ghz Wifi networks. It will broadcast
and receive fine on 5Ghz for the Tethering function, so it can't be hardware-related.
I find it hard to believe 2 phones can be defective, but not outside of the realm of possibility.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, or know what exactly is causing this, and what to do?
Why not just use the 2.4ghz band? I've used that since day one.
safestrap enabled, Hyperdrive driven
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, or know what exactly is causing this, and what to do?
I've had the same problem with both S4's that I have. What I did to fix it was I went into the routers settings.. I changed the 2.5 band to only show G and the 5 band to only allow N.
Then I changed the bandwidth on the 5 to 20/40 instead of just the 20 it was on.
Also I made my phone '' forget'' the low speed band so that it only had the 5.
All routers are different obviously, but you should have those settings I'd assume.
See if any of that helps.
Good luck!

decaturbob,
The 2.4Ghz band here is very crowded.
Mistertac,
Tried, didn't work.
It will also say the Network is out Range 1 out of 2 times, even though I'm sitting in front of my laptop with the 5Ghz connected.
Other phone did the same thing.

If you can connect to it close to the router do so. Download and install wifi analyzer from the play store. See what the quality of the signal is close to the router and as you move away. I haven't been on touch wiz(I'm assuming that's what you're on) in a while. You should also have settings under wifi then advanced. Make sure nothing is weird there.

Did you root your phone yet? Do you have a custom rom installed on it? If you have then you might want to take a look at a file explore to look for your host file. It could be because of that. I had to delete my host file in order for my wifi to connect again. Also want to check proxy settings.
Do you have separate names for the 2.4 and 5ghz networks?

Thanks for the tip. Yes, customer ROM (Hyperdrive). What "host" file are you referring too? Wifi connects perfectly ever time. It is ONLY the the 5GHz band that will not stay connected.

Thanks. I am pretty familiar with the 5Ghz vs 2.4Ghz limitations. I have the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 Router and all Wifi connections are being made within 50 ft of the router. So I know range is not an issue. My Note 8 connects to the 5GHz band and works perfectly. My S4 connects for a few seconds and then drops. Using Wifi Analyzer (on S4), I see the 5GHz signal for a few seconds and then it disappears for 10 seconds and then comes back. Seems like it is turning on and off continually. As mentioned previously, the two things that really make this strange are:
1) I can connect my S4 to the 2.4GHz band of the same router and it works exactly as it should
2) My Note 8 connects to the 5GHz band every time and works exactly as it should
So it is specifically my S4 that is the problem. I am thinking that something with my Hyperdrive ROM or Wanam, etc. may be causing the issue. OR maybe it is a hardware issue with the device? Either way, I can get by using 2.4 just fine, but wish I could figure out why 5GHz doesn't work.

Yeah, the ROM does include a "band" switcher, but when I select 5GHZ only, it has the exact same symptoms. Only difference is it no longer shows my 2.4 band as a connection option. Like you said, one of those things...haha.

If you don't know what a host file is then nvm. But yeah if it's just the 5ghz and you have the issue on both phone then it's the hardware issue. I advise ( since you have two s4 right? ) you to have one stocked and one custom. Try to connect both, if both still have the same issue then contact the cell phone provider. If the custom have the issue then contact the custom rom creator.

I just checked on my MK2 (stock) phone and it sees the 5 GHz wifi fine. I changed the SSID of the 2.4 Gig network and it remained connected on 5 GHz. My Galaxy Tab 2 lost connectivity due to the renaming, so I know it worked (and that the GS4 still was connected on 5 Gigs). Oh, and the wife's iPad lost connectivity. Oops.
If you install WiFiFoFum you should be able to see both bands.

Slow Wifi

Got the T-mobile version of this phone recently. For some reason, the wifi speeds are pretty slow when I run speedtests. I have a 100Mbps+ connection at home running a dual-band network of G and N. But no matter what, this phone can't pass even 9mbps. Anyone else have issues? My other Android phones have no problems with speeds. Seems like the wifi antenna is weak in this phone.
Can't say I experience the same. When on my standard 2.4Ghz WiFi I max at 54Mb/s when on my 5Ghz WiFi I tap out my bandwidth for my connection

Your router must be a poor performer, configured improperly, or you're picking up a lot of interference. My WiFi signal is the only signal in the area (rural). I have a pretty decent ASUS router. On both my 2.4 and 5 GHz connections, I hit 50+ mbps.

Hmm. Interesting. We have a lot of wireless devices at home and this one seems to perform the slowest for some reason.
checked it after reading this with two different apps and both were slow, even after rebooting my wifi AP only getting 2Mb down and 5Mb up max when my Linux box on wired connecting is doing 60/5.5 ... might be some iffy wifi chips around?
**update**
Played around with the Amped AP settings and have the 5Ghz channel on AC only now I'm getting good speeds for wireless, around 15-20mb down on my V10, however my laptop is getting close to the 60Mb that my wired boxes are... no idea why the phone wifi would be so much slower. Have not rooted/rom'd or anything to my phone, only half a day old.
I am not sure if this has to do with anything. I restored my phone yesterday to before I flashed xposed. Because it did break smart settings and second screen function and maybe other things. My Wi-Fi is working like it should.

I can confirm that wifi speed is definitely an issue with the V10 (at least with the AT&T version). My wife has a Nexus 6P and she gets 30+ Mbps. I'm only getting (at most) 3 Mbps. My Note 4 was getting 30+ Mbps as well so its not my home wifi equipment.
I'm hoping an update gets released to fix this.
I am having the same exact issue. Very slow wifi speeds. I have the t mobile variant, unlocked it and now on ATT.

and just to confirm it again, i'm now connected to my corporate wifi network and I'm still getting about .5 Mbps and spiking to about 3 Mbps. I'm going to factory reset and try again to see if its a problem with software.
Anyone who finds out anything on this, please let me know, as I am having the same issue. I don't want to use all my data, but getting better speeds on LTE than WiFi. Using the Verizon variant. Don't know if i should get my phone swapped out or not at this point. Asked my friend at Verizon, and he said no one else is complaining of the issue.
EDIT: Strangely enough, i'm getting fine speed test, but most of the time, i'm timing out on stuff in apps. It quite annoying.

My speedtests run pretty well; I can get over 100Mbps, which is 90% of my Comcast bandwidth. However, establishing connections and/or maintaining them in apps or web browsing seems to be very laggy/intermittent. For example, when I refresh Instagram, it will show the text parts of the posts, but it takes another 5-10 seconds for the images to appear. Similar experience in Google Play and Chrome -- text comes down pretty quick, but the additional data like images and such take another 5-10 seconds. My LG G2 on the same network works seamlessly and without pauses. I have factory reset my V10 twice with no improvements. I have the Verizon V10 variant.
One articleI saw mentions a possible wifi firmware problem when SD cards are inserted. I pulled my SD card with no improvement.
This really seems like a firmware/hardware issue. Hope it gets addressed soon.

It's really hard to explain, but i know that the people on here get it, it's not that it's slow when it's working, cause speed tests are fine, it's the initial connection on some apps that just timeout, or take a really long time to load, but it doesn't do it on LTE, only on WiFi. Instagram for instance, takes forever to load pics, videos, even the pages sometimes, just sits there and thinks, Facebook on occasion, google wallet for sure, i have to go to data most of the time to load google wallet (something with android pay), but webpages seems to load fine, except for some SSL sites, again, slow to load....Now that i'm thinking about it, i wonder if it is something with SSL that's causing some things to be slow....Think about it, speedtests aren't SSL, so those would run fine, but google wallet and android pay are SSL for sure, i'm not 100% on Instagram or Facebook? Can anyone confirm that the traffic on those are SSL?
**Sometimes when i'm typing stuff out, it all comes together in my head...lol***
Ya I hear ya, although the speeds are good sometimes there is slight delay?
Not so much speestests, they always run good because they are running over HTTP, not HTTPS. It seems like apps and webpages that run SSL run really slow. But again, I do not see this on cell data.
Add me to the list of people having wifi problems. Speedtest tests my home connection at 180Mbs. But browser surfing drags along.

Huawei mate 10 pro 5GHz Wifi problem (Lower 5GHz channels).

Greetings,
I have the following mate 10 pro..
Device: Huawei mate 10 pro , Model: BLA-L29
Software Version: 8.0.0.126(C185) updated to 8.0.0.128
Problem:
Mate 10 pro can't find the 5GHz wifi network. I've tried different routers ( Linksys EA7500 , and TP-link Archer C5400) with channels 36 --> 48 with no luck, the phone can't see the 5Ghz networks.
I installed Wifi analyzer on mate 10 pro that confirmed my suspicion that mate 10 pro is not able to see these 5GHz channels.
However, when tethering from another phone with channels 149 and above, mate 10 pro was able to discover and connect to the network!!
Furthermore, I was successfully able to configure Wi-Fi hotspot with 5GHz band on my mote 10 pro and connect other devices to it.
I've contacted Huawei support, and they don't have any idea what the problem is so far.
so, be aware of the problem and second Help please :fingers-crossed:
anybody have the same problem?!
PS: I did a factory reset like 3 times with no luck.

** It seems as it is a Firmware issue, could anybody who has (C185 Middle East, North Africa region) version confirm that the 5GHz works on his/hers phone? Thanks
Update: It was a firmware problem, it was fix by Huawei in one of its updates before android 9.
I can't confirm the firmware version, because I gave up on the matter a few months after the post; Nonetheless, I noticed the fix around December.

Works fine on 5ghz in France too
5 GHz working fine for my mate 10 pro dual sim europe
I have no issues with 5 Ghz Wifi in Sweden. Sounds more like a firmware issue on your phone.

Thanks for replying, I am starting to believe that it is a firmware issue.
It's a frustrating issue though, and Huawei support haven't reply with a solution yet.
their answer to my email was," Thanks for getting back to us, we would like to clarify that we had escalated your concern and will contact you back as soon as possible"
And everytime I call they tell me they will call me back ASAP...
Oddly enough my pro version 636 was only connecting at 2.4ghz but updated firmware forgot network and reconnected on 5ghz now

Unfortunately the update didn't fix mine. When did you recieve the update?
I downloaded it using the firmware finder app. Currently on .128
Mine does not take 2.4 Ghz
Just got Mate 10 Pro BLA-L29 shipped from Taiwan. Build 8.0.0.119 (C636). Both my routers at 2.4 Ghz the signal is vanishingly low even when held right next to router. No other phones/devices have this issue. The 5 Ghz band is the only one that works and delivers 100 Mbps from a considerable distance. I am seriously considering to return it.
Bought mine from Saudi Arabia it connects to 5ghz but the performance is very bad specially when comparing it to my galaxy note 5 my phone is on .126 c185
In firmware finder the changelog says for 128 update that they have fixed the wifi issues so we will have to wait until the update rolls out
It seems it's a channel problem. Couldn't connect to 5ghz at home, on a unifi access point. Read something about channels and changed the wifi-channel in my access point to 48 and suddenly it works just fine. I'm not sure which channels it doesn't support, but the general rule seems to be that the higher the channel number, the less likely that it'll be supported. Hope this helps.

Horrible WIFI (Mate 10 Pro)

Had this phone for two days now and the WIFI connection on it seems buggy. Pages don't always load, Instagram feed doesn't buffer properly. WhatsApp messages don't always send immediately. It is like the phone decides to open up the WIFI connection for a few seconds then shuts it off again. Very annoying. Haven't had a single handset in the last 5 years do this with WIFI.
Throughput seems weaker too. My U11, U11+, S7, S8, OP3T and iPhone 7 all score above 100Mbps on my 220Mbps connection. The Mate 10 Pro seems to be struggling to break 75Mbps.
UK Unlocked BLA-09 8.0.0.115 (C782)
Mines the same, I've stopped using WiFi because of it, luckily I'm on three with unlimited data.
Hopefully the due firmware updates are going to sort the issues I've been having with this phone.
Really have been considered returning mine, I jumped from a oneplus one for this phone as the hardware is top notch but the software really is killing it for me
Me too, mines that bad that ive had to turn off my wifi otherwise i don't get any internet! I really love the phone but this is a deal breaker so might send it back and get a 5T instead. Not sure if the firmware update will solve this as it seems some devices work fine and others don't on the same firmware.
Hi,
My Mate 10 Pro always loses the wifi connection and after that it is not possible to connect again until I reboot the phone
I hope for a quick update.....
mine works fine
Yeah I'm probably going to return mine. WiFi not working is just silly really. I've got 30gb data with EE so it's not that I can't use the internet but it's just one of many bugs I've had with this phone.
Unreliable and spotty WiFi. Lag and general jank that reminds me of Touchwiz. Every dongle (HTC, Google, RazerPhone) sound super weak compared to other flagships. Can't delete Gmail messages from lock screen sometimes. Can't expand notifications from lock screen sometimes.

Wait for an update should fix it.
Hi, when I first got this phone unlocked from CPW about a 5 weeks ago I did notice that the Wi-Fi was a bit "temperamental"... would show connected OK (full bars) but would download in kB/sec... toggling Wi-Fi on and off would kick it back into life OK ... This did happen quite a few times for me (annoying, but hey-ho..)... Original firmware was BLA-L09 8.0.0.115 (C782). Received an OTA update about a fortnight or so ago to BLA-L09 8.0.0.124 (C782).... and haven't noticed any Wi-Fi slow-downs so far (and have been looking).. so hopefully this has improved things... I'm assuming the OTA will roll-out to everyone (eventually)... Will update things if I notice any sluggishness, or other issues.

Yeah it's kind of annoying that they do this by IMEI number and not a full rollout to a model number. A lot of us on C782 don't have any OTA available.
Also have WiFi problems and also always on display freezes my phone during unlock quite a lot. I'm on 3 mobile so running 115 firmware.
Huawei has released 127 firmware which I'm sure fixes these issues.
But, now we have to wait all year for 3 mobile to catch up and allow these updates. Annoying to the point of maybe returning the phone

agreed
There's quite a few grumbles about the duff Wi-Fi, and although it seems OK on mine now (BLA-L09 8.0.0.124 C782 UK unlocked) I notice there a few theories going on about NOT using the 5GHz Wi-Fi. I can confirm that I DON'T use that frequency at all (never had much luck strength-wise in my house) and it seems OK. Might be worth using 2.4GHz only... worth a shot...
same here
It is 5ghz band. It is the same with all Huawei phone's
Netgear routers have region change option
i changed mine to where i live ( middle-east) suddenly all the phones in the house detected the 5ghz , TVs lost it though but it's not a big deal at all
