Question Phone cases that protect the SIDES of your curved screen (s23U)?? - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Why are there no case manufacturers out there that sells cases with the side of the raised just enough to actually protect the curved screen. I get that it inhibits the use of "edge app" but that is not worth it to me. Incipio was one of the case manufacturers to offer this type of protection and not just raised bezels on its corners.
My incipio duo case for s10 plus is a good example of how the case should be properly made. The sides of the screen are protected but you lose out on the edge panel app. I want a case with the bezels raised enough on the side of the case to protect the curved screen. Incipio is not the case of the year for that because I just had bought it and noticed the side lip of the case was lower than the curved screen.

Zizo Bolt, that's all I use on my N10+'s. Excellent protection. Slightly raised on the side (verify that) and raised more on the ends.

The Caseborne V has raised edges on the side and very raised top and bottom.

Problem is gesture navigation. i'm having hard time using home gesture with Spigen Ultra Hybrid Zero-one case.
The sides are abit raised but not troublesome.

bulky case.

Spigen Tough Armor sides are ever so slightly proud of the display face.

OtterBox cases have raised edges on all 4 sides also. It's impossible for the screen to touch anything when facedown. I am using the Defender Pro case with Belt Clip Holster because I work in the Restaurant Industry and my phone usually hits the ground 2 or 3 times a year. Never had one get damaged yet. That says something about investing in good cases.

Sure but fate will intervene and you'll drop your phone in a parking lot and it will land face down on the only stone within a 25' radius.

It always possible. But I never had a phone damaged yet with OtterBox. S7 Edge, Note 8, S20U, S22U and now 23U. I actually dropped it in the Elevator the other day but no big deal cause it was a laminated wood fake floor. The only negative is with the heavy duty nature of the pro series your phone turns into a brick. It gets heavy but I have to do it. Having it in a Holster on Belt and using a Galaxy Watch 5 Pro for notifications makes it less of a pain.

I hink the spigen rough armor and rugged cases dont offer much protection for the curved screen. I'm looking into caseology which claims to have raised bezels on the side of the case.

I have both and for most everyone's purposes the tough armor imo is more than enough real world protection all around including curved screen.
Have never had a screen break or body damaged since using this case+tempered screen protector going into 7 years now and all sorts of drops.

Yep. Plastic ones suck imo and only good for light superficial scratch prevention.
The tempered glass screen protectors have saved my screens many times They had sacrificed themselves in place of my screens haha

The Poetic Neon cases for the S23 Ultra have raised sides to protect the sides of the screen.
https://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Ultra/dp/B0BPXYH7FD/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=R8VAYDLDLHTR&keywords=poetic.eon+case+s23+ultra&qid=1677619126&sprefix=poetic.eon+case+s23+ultra%2Caps%2C127&sr=8-4

My UAG Monarch Pro (with the MagSaf ring) has side edges that appear to be even with the surface of the center of my screen. The top and bottom edges are visibly taller than the center of the screen.I don't have my stiff metal straight-edge and feeler guages handy to do a 100% check on the side height.
BTW, I am very happy with the case alone, and even happier to share MagSaf stuff with my 4 family membera that are stuck on iPhones.

Exactly this. Happened to me: Phone fell down and hit the 1mm (or less) of screen that was not covered by add-on tempered glass on a little stone in the path sticking out slightly.

Nice case. Looks like Urban Armor. Not a fan of the pill-shaped opening for the camera and Motorola logo though. Would rather have 2 separate holes (like the Spigen slim armor for the N6). Or even a case that doesn't display the Motorola logo at all. Thanks for sharing though. :good:
Been eyeballing this case for a few days, I personally like it and think it offers great protection, but before I order one, I'm curious if the thickness will prevent wireless charging. That will determine whether I get it or not.
I had one of the Supcase beetle cases for the OG Moto X. I liked the look of it on the computer screen, however in the hand, it's rather uncomfortable because of its construction. The plastic is rather sharp on the sides and edges where the phone is held. So I would be apprehensive about purchasing one of these for my own soon-to-own N6.

The supcase is the one I wanted to have as there is no otterbox available. I decided to get the White one, and guess what. In Germany, you can get the black one via Amazon. All other countries around Germany (UK, FR) have it listed in White. Duuuh.
I got the Supcase unicorn beetle pro and took it straight off! It makes an already big phone just too dam big!

It surely gets a lot bigger. I know from my previous phones with Otterboxes. But on the other side, I find handling the phone much easier if it's heavier and bulkier, too. The additional rubber stuff and edges of those coses make handling easier for me. but well, yes, tastes are different
You have the White case and want to get rid of it?

I have one of these on my n6 and also on my n9. I think its a great deal and offers good protection. I'm very happy with them both especially for the price!
I have this case! I agree that some aspects of it are non-appealing. The back of the case is rounded to much and very slick. Its quite hard to remove the case. The rubber plug that protects the charge hole is very tight and presses down on the charge cable when the phone is charging.
+'s
I'm in the army and day to day use is rigorous. The supcase has proven to be extremely tough. Once its on the phone it fits very tight and completely protects the phone. The pill shape opening in the back is quite useful in my opinion. With it showing the Motorola logo on the back of the phone, this acts as a aid in my single handed operation of the huge NEXUS 6. It provides a solid holding spot for my index finger. Although it may be a very cheap case it functions amazingly well in my extreme conditions work environment. The complimentary belt clip holster functions quite nice as well.
I ordered the case and love it. I'm a letter carrier and needed a rugged case with a belt clip. The only negative comments I have about it is that it is extremely hard to remove the case from the phone and I had to remove my tempered glass because of the snug fit. It is smooth on the back, but the rubberized part of the case gives me good grip on the case. Overall 4 out of 5 stars, IMO.

Nope. It does not work with wireless charger. I have two wireless chargers, both works fine for my N7 and N5 (with normal case), but it does not work with my N6 with Supcase.
However, I suspect the wireless charger is killing my N5 battery (that's why I have to buy a N6 in the first place), so I probably won't miss wireless charging too much.

It works with all of my wireless chargers , even my portable QiStone which is the weakest one.
I decided to compare this case with my dual-layer cases because it was mentioned that wireless charging is still enabled with it on. I also confirmed this to be true, so that's cool.
I like the holster ease, although not using a proper hinge means that the hard plastic tab which you pull open to release the phone might snap some day.
This is not a dual-layer case, though it's got nice coverage on top of the screen's front-facing edges and uses hard, rubberized sides around the phone's perimeter. There is a thin strip of foam between the phone and the hard plastic back, instead of a dual-layer case's full sleeve that surrounds the phone and is then covered by the harder, outer case. So, in an impact on the sides, I think the soft edges will displace some force into the case's rigid frame instead of all hitting the phone, which is good. But, an impact on the phone's back would seem to mostly travel right into the phone due to that very thin foam strip separating the phone and case.
The built-in screen protector/plastic shield is glued into the top assembly piece, so I had to use an X-Acto knife to pry it up and then pulled it off with pliers. That left a strip of semi-soft glue all the way around the inside lip of that piece, which would have been in contact with the phone's glass or edge after assembling. So, it took about 10 minutes to carefully scrape all the glue residue away and then clean that frame piece to ensure nothing much was left.
Perhaps due to not having the built-in screen protector, I noticed that there was a slight lift in a couple areas between the phone's (Spigen Crystal-protected) glass surface and the rubberized lip of the SUPCASE's frame after it was fully assembled on the phone. This isn't the worst thing in the world, but it means that liquids and debris simply have better lines of sight to get under the case, potentially.
As others have said, the fit is incredibly tight and that also makes it difficult to remove - I don't see that as a negative, since I would only remove a case if it broke.
I'm still very wary with this big, thin phone and prefer a full dual-layer design around it. But, I like the solidity of this case and its holster clip. So, I'll keep it around as a backup.

I dont have any tempered glass at the moment, i tried the Nilkin glass but it was just plain awful, Sides were not sticking at all, horrible rainbow effect so i removed it.
Nilkin claimed in a response email that the sides not fully sticking is *normal* so just a tip, wait for some decent screen protectors

The bumper cases won't lift the glass as they don't come over onto the front of the display, they just cover the back and sides. OnePlus has confirmed that the tempered glass is NOT compatible with the Otterbox case though.

I have:
_ Sandstone case. Really nice, but it will only protect the back of the phone from scratches. But if it falls, then...
_ Black silicone case. Really nice. Very matte. Love the texture, the feeling. Protects a lot better than the Sandstone of course. The bottom isn't protected though...
_ the flip cover from OnePlus. Best protection for sure. Love the texture as well. Really nice. But it adds a definit thickness to the phone. And you of course have to flip it to get to the phone.
_ the Orzly red case. I think it has a pinky shade, and I'm a guy, so... Will protect the phone better than the Sandstone and the black silicone but... it's shiny on the side, feels weird, feels... cheap a bit. Not a big fan...
_ the Karbon Bumper case from OnePlus. So far, it's my favorite. Fantastic look. Great feeling. Feels strong, it's hard on the back but the sides are made of rubber, so the phone is very secured. Every cuts are perfectly placed. It's my day to day case. Really love it.
I've ordered the red silicone case though, for the look. It's the same design as the black one, but... red
I know, why so many cases? It's because I love my O+5

That's the karbon bumper case, it does not cover any part of the front, a bumper case is supposed to protect the sides of the device primarily. Like the bumper of a car, that's why it's called a bumper case.

a bumpercase is not particularly designed to protect the sides, it does both front and sides and has raised edges to the front of the phone.
And if you still say it does not have any edges raised than your just stubborn ..

Dude...it does not overlap onto the face of the phone, that's why it won't raise the glass, some other cases, like the Spigen Rugged Armor for example or the Otterbox case, actually wrap over on to the front face of the phone which is why they can end up lifting the protectors.
I didn't say the bumper cases don't protect the face of the phone, I said they don't cover any part of the front.
Even though, in OnePlus's image above, it does look like it's wrapping up over the bottom onto the face but I've seen videos of people using the protector with that case and it was fine.

It does wrap the front of the phone, but not that extreme as the Otterbox or Spigen or any equal bumper.
Should not affect most of the tempered glass covers
I have the Karbon Bumper case and I can testify that it doesn't wrap over on to the front face of the phone. I have a Spigen case on my Axon 7 and I can see the difference between a case that wraps over and one that doesn't.
But I still clearly love and prefer the KB case, best case available so far. Hands down.

Moto X4 Cases and Lens and Screen Protectors (Unified Thread)

I recently bought the Moto X4 and my case and screen protector were just delivered.
I will post pics once I installed the plastic screen protector.
I'm still waiting for my iMAK Hydrogel Film for the front/back.

I got the same case, except in red. It fits very well, and is quite nice! It fits very well. I was afraid it'd be too rubbery but it holds its shape well, while still being flexible enough if I need to remove it.
As usual, it blocks some headphone jacks if they have a wide base, but that's expected.
Mine was $8 on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0753CD8R7/
Yes it does fit well but too bulky for my liking. I bought mine for USD5 ?.
Anyway, I'll probably get another type of case. Here's the link on how it looks like
http://www.lazada.com.my/imak-shock...html?spm=a2o4k.search.0.0.226b6e31cAW5cj&ff=1
I'm still undecided which of the 3 to get. I want the transparent but will definitely turn yellow after sometime.

I went for the smooth case, skin type feel. Hope its not slippery and gives good grip!
i ordered these 3 things on ALIEXPRESS for supercheap prices,
waiting for them to arrive... (they usually are quite fast in deliveries with china registered airmail)
2 back covers, and 5 camera protectors (for the back camera they were so cheap i ordered 5 immediately)
https://imgur.com/a/E3R0O (click link to watch all 3 pictures)
i hope one of these backcovers will at least feel like it offers good protection for dropping on the corners.
good camera protection on the back (=creating much distance between the backcover and the camera so there is a few mm's in between,
so the camera no longer touches a surface when we lay the phone on the back)
i already have a just in case glass screenprotector, which offers smooth touch...
but it has some air beneath on both sides of the screen (i dont really care some much cause it's hardly visible when the screen is turned on).
It doesn't protect the front camera sadly enough, the touch responsitivity feels great though.
so despite all its flaws i still give a 7/10.
I added some oldschool screenprotector foil that I cut with scissors on the front camera that is not covered by the just in case screenglass.
Edit: This stuff has arrived now! I like the Imak case. It's anti skid & offers good camera protection. The other case (perfect brush texture with so called "anti slip" looks better but feels bad to hold in hand. It does not offer camera protection and is not anti slip at all!
I ordered the same brand but mine is the matte black sandy feel.
I also order the iMak hydrogel film (front and back) since I really hate normal screen protector and tempered glass.
Film protectors (a la clearcoat/zagg/ishield) are not visible and will cover most of the screen including the edges.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2pc...-c62b-43f8-8513-c4ff815bdfb1&rmStoreLevelAB=5
I don't have the camera lens protector though. :/ I'm considering that since Moto likes putting a coating on their camera lenses (which scratches in time) though you can remove them completely by rubbing gently with toothpaste/baking soda.
This happened to my old Moto Z.
Btw, the case I used has a good camera lens protection. It is actually raised a little bit so you can put your phone on a flat surface without worrying.
why do you hate glass, and whats so good about gel?
good glass has great touch responsitivity,
will feel just as slippery as normal glass (are there really people that like nongreasy unslippery touchscreen?),
and protects against breaking.
my current case raises the camera as well but not enough. the only ones that raise it significantly are probably those bulky book cases.
i'll probably have to raise it myself by using superglue and putting some pieces of rubber on the inside of the screenprotector.
Since most phones these days (including Moto) are using 2.5D glass, the edges are curved and tempered glass can't cover the edges. In my past Moto phones (or just any other phones), tempered glass manufacturers will either
- make a tempered glass with maximum coverage (with obvious halo effect/ tempered glass not sticking to the edges)
or
- tempered glass won't cover the edges and can't even cover the whole display (assuming the side bezels are slim).
The film will protect the whole display and looks invisible as if there is no protection whatsoever.
I'm not too worried about breakage coz I am using a case.
Update: I received the iMak hydrogel films for the front and back. I haven't installed them yet but I'm now disappointed. The films will cover more than the glass front and back!
I'll update again once I installed it on my phone.
Anyway, this is better than the plastic screen protector I'm using now.
pietpietersen: Just wondering where you purchased the screen protector that you already had?
And if anyone can provide links to tempered glass screen protectors that have hit their phones well, I would appreciate it. I keep reading reviews on Amazon saying that some of them dont fit right.
Double post! Sorry!

I got the TGSP, pictured below, for the wife's X4.
It does cover the entire screen, side to side and is really hard to get it centered, side to side, because it is virtually the same width as the display.
It's cut really close to the button, camera and sensors, which also makes it difficult to get good placement.
It had the best reviews, on amazon, by far.
I really hate curved edge phones!
Triple post! Wth?
So sorry! I don't know what happened!
marxela: i got mine at smartphoneshop.be (or. nl) so its not gonna be cheap to buy or have it shipped outside of belgium/netherlands.
pizza Pablo's looks easier to place than mine, cause mine had only a tiny microphone cutout. anyway, im happy mine feels smooth to touch/swype on.
Update: Do NOT buy the iMAK hydrogel film for Moto X4. It's useless. The front and back films do NOT fit the phone itself. It's like the cutout is for an enlarge version of Moto X4!
So I have no choice but to go naked on my front screen.

Have you applied the imak hydrogel film? How does it fit? I am planning to order the same.
Edit: Got the answer. I won't order it, thanks.
I did successfully install the hydrogel film. Even if it does fit, the quality is really poor. It's like a cheap version of IQ shield or Clear Coat. There are a lot of creases and very fingerprint magnet.
I went to mobile outfitters and have my front screen installed with matte film. Problem solved.
The protector from the gadgetshieldz covers the lens, screen and body of the moto x4. I have previously used their screen protector on my moto g4. But now for my x4, I got the skins.

If someone is looking to stay away from the scratches and doesn't want to show that something is been applied on the screen camera or body. They can go with this.
I am using Nillkin frosted case for Moto X4. It's perfect for those who hate bulky cases as I do. The fit is accurate, also it protects camera bump. Case quality is very good, no doubt it will last long.
Nillkin screen protector (clear) for Moto X4 was included in the box. I bought it from AliExpress for $4.59.

Another thumbs-up to OnePlus for fit & overall quality.
1) The finish is the star here, wish the phone itself had the same,as with the OG 1+1.
2) Low profile, adds little to the overall width/thickness of the phone.
Unlike a lot of 3rd party thin cases, this one feels substantial & secure,a reassuring "snap" when you install it,it's not going to pop-off unless you want to remove it.
3) The side edges are raised enough to place the phone face-down with confidence, but, does not get in the way of using the phone.
The rear camera is safe as well,it sits below the surface of the case.
If there was an achilles heel for this case,it would be the top & bottom edges of the phone are fully exposed.
That doesn't bother me,but,if I had a choice of one of the two edges to be covered,it would be the top, since there's nothing going on there anyway.
The buttons are exposed on the sides, but,I consider that an asset (& a necessity for the slider switch).
If I were rating this on a 5-Star system,I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5, a half point deducted for the top edge being exposed.
A definite buy, take your pick of color/finish,but,I find the sandstone to be the best in both looks & feel-in-hand/grippiness. :good:

Plus 1 for the sandstone, I loved the feeling of OnePlus One. I'm so glad they continue to make cases with the same texture.

Had the sandstone for my 5T. May have to bite the bullet and get it for my 6T.
I would have but i'm worried about the top and bottom
I just got mine today. It's great! This is just the kind of case I buy for all my phones.
I love that it's super slim, the texture, button cutouts, perfect fit, etc.
I bought the Nylon case, I wanted to have more durability and a nice look and this case is perfect for me. Thought about carbon too, but on the site it is rated that it is thicker.
Nylon case every time. Nice grip, not bulky, feels amazing, and you also get a micro fibre lining inside the case which is essential for stopping dirt from scratching your phone while the case is on. It also protects the top and bottom.
Used to love the sandstone case, but as it's hard plastic you will definitely end up with scratches and marks on your phone, especially on the soft metal frame, from tiny pieces of dirt. That has been the case since the OP5 onwards, as the anodized aluminium shows marks up more than the silver OP3/T used to.
Plus the only time I've dropped a phone in over 5 years with the OP6, I had sandstone case on, and the top edge got destroyed because the curve of the frame goes beyond the corners of the case.
Does anyone know if this case happens to interfere with a screen protector?

No.. All oneplus cases are compatible with official tamper glass screen protectors :good:
Pro tip: if you need drop protection go for bumper cases, others like the sandstone and other slim cases offer limited protection.

I ordered the Karbon protective case thinking it was the bumper case version. While i feel like it offers little to no drop protection, it is a nice smooth feel and makes the phone feel like my old Droid Maxx Dev Edition. I wish i had seen this post when i ordered. lol.
I've got the sandstone and nylon case. I like swapping cases every now and then and imo those two are just perfect. The sandstone is slim and grippy and the nylon case offers superb protection and looks awesome.
Another vote for nylon. I'm lovin' it!

Careful dropping it on un even surfaces, the pebbly streets of NYC cracked my screen even with tempered glass on it.

I got the Karbon protective case, fabricated with Kevlar, but I wish I'd got the bumper case cause that looks more protective to me

Accessories what case are you using/getting?

I have the spigen rugged armor case. it is protective but slippery. i like the protection and the fact that it has holes for a lanyard, which i use a dsptch quick release wrist strap that i actually use as a neck strap when i'm on a photo outing. but i'm just not happy with it being slippery. i wonder why neither sony or their suppliers here in the us sell the sony style cover. i would be willing to try it.
anyways, any recommendations for a case? i'd actually like to go caseless but am too afraid of scratching the camera lens or cracking the screen. here in the us sony isn't a popular smartphone brand and getting repairs done i imagine won’t be easy.
I got the Caseology Vault case because it was the only thing I could get next day when my phone came in, didn't expect to like it but it's actually really nice. Good "sandstone" texture on the bottom 2/3 of it, pretty grippy and pleasant to hold.
I personally am used to this Japan brand design, as I generally held my phone around the edge.
Top: G10 Choro
Bottom: Aluminum
These 2 are essentially different in materials, design wise is similar. They added texture on slanted surface to help grip, only the outerst vertical face is smooth flat.
G10 Chrono material is new to me, feels a lot friction when fingers come in contact, and it's also lighter then aluminum version.
So, at the end I'm giving G10 Chrono version a try as of current useage.
I do still apply a glass protector on the front, and soft film on the back to get my phone fully covered.
(drop protection wise, this design of bumper, as long as dropping on flat surface, it'll always the bumper come in contact first, never the phone. If there is object / pointy rocks / etc. then yes there are probability that phone would be come in contact then)

Phone in G10 Chrono, fits perfectly, and its case button is easy to press also.
I just got a spigen rugged armor. It's good so far. But it generates dust on top, and the sides are raised, so it's not great for gestures. Can anyone recommend a good tempered glass screen protector? I figure it could raise the screen so edges will not be such a problem..

Came to post the very same case, which is the one I got.
I hate cases--ruins the svelt size and premium feel of a good phone. I doubt they provide a ton of protection, but these carbon fiber cases are genuinely thin and add no perceptible bulk, and actually feel quite nice in the hand.
From my experience, cases damage the phone more than they protect it if you take good care of them. I gave up using cases because dirt always finds a way to get in and scuff the metal sides. If you never drop the phone or place it over rough surface, the phone stays pristine.
Removing the case to clean it often also rubs and scratches the paint on the sides, so I don't understand why so many people use cases and I don't understand why cases with cloth on the inside aren't more popular.
Edit: not to mention how much I hate giving up the premium feel of metal when holding the phone instead of feeling cheap plastic all over the phone.
Chiming in to say I have both the Spigen Rugged Armor and Caseology Vault case and have used them for a short period of time, both feels nice in the hand. Can't conclusively say which is better, so I'll still need to try it for some time
One thing i noticed (or maybe it's just me), is that the Spigen case have a slightly higher depth for the camera bump (presumably to protect the lens from accidental scratching)

Haven't tested wireless charging, sorry. Probably the manufacturer has specified if it does, and/or someone has asked/answered that question on the product page on Amaazon? That said, I thought these sort of cases generally work with wireless charging--again though, haven't tried it myself.

I'm with you. I've ran my last several phones without a case because I could never find one I liked. I wasn't even sure when I ordered this one, but so far I absolutely love it. Kept the phone light and small and really like the texture
Bought a few clear TPU cases, one Aioria leather. But then I also ordered a carbon fiber skin case from Ali Express a couple of months back that just showed up. Keeps the slim design and premium look. Less than $25, but will take at least a couple of months to arrive.
I bought the Spigen Rugged Amor and the CYRILL by Spigen 'Stone' colour, knowing that they're both essentially Spigen. They obviously use the same moulds so the fit is identical for each. No problem with the power button recess or a loose fit.
The CYRILL has a slightly raised bump around the camera hole and the side grips are vertical, so run the length of the phone. It's a lighter slate grey colour, but the back is all one matte shade, instead of the Rugged Armor with its tacky fake carbon fibre effect patches. I hate how they do that. However, the matte effect finish of the main part of the back panel on the Rugged Armor feels really nice, and the side grips are a nice diagonal hatched effect which feels very nice.
Personally, I wish Spigen had already brought a Liquid Air case to market for the X1M3, I love the subtle back panel design and I have them on all my other phones. Hopefully in due course. The Caseology looked nearly identical to the Rugged Armor for even more money, so I skipped that.
I fitted the Spigen AlignMaster (GLAStR) screen protector this evening - like all protectors, the curse of tiny dust particles and a few small hairs, but this time the included adhesive "dust removal" stickers was an absolute blessing. It took about a dozen minor dust removals after applying the main protector, but it's now on and perfect.
I'm mixed about the Spigen's black panels top and bottom, I don't really see why they're there as they add nothing to the design and require a totally aligned fit to avoid cutting off screen edges. However, the alignment frame which comes with the protector makes it so simple to place the glass on to the screen and get it 100% aligned, I wasn't that bothered.
I also bought the 3 pack of PULEN protectors; they're much more basic, standard "tempered glass 9H" style affairs. Slightly sharper edges than the Spigen protector, though the Spigen one isn't totally bevelled either. You would want to use a case. to avoid catching an edge and lifting the protector off the screen.
The Spigen protector fits snugly into a Spigen case, as expected. If you're aligning by hand and using a TPU case, you may want to apply the glass with the phone in the case.
