Where to download older firmware? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, not sure where to post this question (cuz I didn't find any general thread about general android) so I will post it here
You see, I am looking for a specific firmware: https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s-iii/firmware/GT-I9300/MOT/download/I9300XXALF2/5302/
because our carrier has bundled an app with it that I can only find here
the problem is that sammobile now charges for downloading older firmware and tools like Frija or SamFirm can only download the latest one
I also checked here: https://samfw.com/firmware/GT-I9300/MOT
but the only have the latest fw for the phone, and I need the oldest
are there any other places that I can check
If I knew this will happen I would start archiving firmwares
Thanks for Anwsering and Best Regards

Specify exactly whether you are looking for firmware for the Galaxy S III or the S10, and what firmware you currently have on your phone.

why exactly you need 4.0.4 you want to run some specific app that requires it? just try some firmwares and see if they work. it would not really matter which one you take. if its about the carrier you will be looking for baseband and csc.
and by the way if you downgrade your firmware / modem it will break your efs / imei and phone will be dead. its actually not possible or very difficult, because the efs file structure was changed in 2013 to efsv2. absolutely not recommended.

Thanks, I dont want to flash it, just looking for an application thats hiding inside
You see our carrier (Telekom Slovenija, CSC: MOT)
Had a built in app called MobilnaTV.apk that I cannot find anywhere else on the internet (but I do remember it was included back in the Galaxy S3 days)
Why Android 4.0.4? Because in 2014 our carrier changed branding from Mobitel (thats why CSC is still MOT) to Telekom Slovenija, and discontinoud MobilnaTV service, meaning that from Galaxy S4 onwards the app was not included anymore
Here is a picture

if you only want to watch tv on your phone, there may be other apps and it should work via browser, too. maybe you dont need that specific app, firmware or baseband / carrier. i would go through all the stock roms you find for your country if youre after that app.

Thanks
I found it in Android 4.3
I dont want to watch internet tv, and even if I wanted that
The service is long gone, I just wanted to have an app for API 7
The app is not obfuscacated so now I need to figure out how to create a helloworld project for API7 with modern android studio, put the code and resources back in, and now I have my own app for API 7 (Android 2.2), that actualy looks nice (back in Api 7 days default apps (helloworld like) looked like crap, only samsung apps looked nice and this one)
If anyone has an old Android Studio project (even HelloWorld is fine) for API7 that I could open in latest Android studio, that would also be great, cuz latest android studio only allows me to create an app for Android 4.0.4 (API 19 iirc) and up

[Q] Dutch CSC files for Galaxy Tab 10.1 P7500 3G+Wifi needed.

Does anyone can extract the csc files that is active on his/hers tab with stock rom for The Netherlands which is not modified?
ROM: Galaxy Tab 10.1 P7500 3G+Wifi Honeycomb 3.1/3.2
File and folder overview:
<CSC>
- system
-- CSCFiles.txt
-- CSCVersion.txt
-- csc
----contents.db
----customer.xml
----others.xml
----sales_code.dat
-- etc
----enforcecopyinglibpackages.txt
Reason: cause I don't have a Dutch/The Netherlands CSC folder on my tab, since I early flashed it to Honeycomb 3.2.
So I don't have the CSC codes active below:
BEN
MMO
ONL
QIC
TFT
TNL
VDF
VDP
XEN
KPN
PHN
Thanks in advance!
I'd like to help you (Belgian GXT 10.1 3G + Wifi)
I just rooted him, but didn't flash another ROM.
So if you can explain how can extract it, I'll do it for you
with other words I can't find the CSC map like you ask.
Thanks for your responce!
The most easiest way is using the app Root Explorer (or other file-explorer app with root capabilities).
* Browse to the folder /system/csc
* copy the folder /system/csc to your "sd-card" --> /sdcard (the folder contains mostly 3-letter folders)
* Exit root app and plug your Tab to your pc.
* Copy it your pc and zip .
here you go
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LO8L5AVC
I hope i could help you with this
Thanks for your fast actions! I will look into it asap.
I looked in to it. You have, 2 bad, only 1 csc and that is your Belgium one. I don't know why though.
Thanks again!
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Anyone that can give the firmware and csc code that is used in the Netherlands? No files, just a code.
Verstuurd van mijn GT-P7500 met Tapatalk
Can you tell me the Dutch csc code?!?! Cause Megaupload is dead....
I'm not sure what Samsung did use for a CSC code for The Netherlands. They are looking in to that for me (the said on Facebook).
Official it is one of these:
BEN = NETHERLANDS
MMO = NETHERLANDS
ONL = NETHERLANDS
QIC = NETHERLANDS
TFT = NETHERLANDS
TNL = NETHERLANDS
VDF = NETHERLANDS
VDP = NETHERLANDS
XEN = NETHERLANDS
KPN = NETHERLANDS
Source: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=1&t=1
I personally don't have any of the above on my Dutch tablet .
Maybe I can help you, but I'm quite new to android. I own a P7510 Wifi only SGT bought in the Netherlands.
I can still access the original stock rom, if I nandroid back to stock.
But before I do I like to know what are these csc files and are those of my P7510 similar on the P7500?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
I checked the firmware code of the P7510 in a shop, but that wasn't the same.
Perhaps the CSC code is. CSC stands for Country Sales Code. You can see it by installing the app "SGS CSC Selector" or "Samsung Galaxy S / S2 CSC". The selected CSC code is then shown. DONT change it, as it will wipe your tablet to factory defaults.
Edit:
App "Samsung Galaxy S / S2 CSC" works for sure. You can safely click the first button.
It is also possible to open the folder /system/csc/customer.xml.
Line 5 and 6 describes the selected Sales code.
I finally restored my official ROM (Honeycomb 3.2) with correct CSC code. Still can't use Kies upgrades, but hey...that's whats Odin for. This is how.
Go to:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=3&o=1&m=GT-P7500&r=1#regiona
Download:
P7500XWKL1 ## 2011 December P7500XEUKL1 Europe
--------
(Or use client from http://fus.nanzen.se/ and select
- Firmware: Android - GT-P7500 - Europe
It shows now:
- Product code: GT-P7500UWDXEU
- PDA: P7500XWKHD
- CDC: P7500XEUKH3
- Phone: P7500XWKG1
Check your firmware and download.
But it is the exact same firmware as from the other website and that one is easier to flash (I guess) through Odin.
--------
* When you have downloaded the Zip-file, extract it.
* Please clear and wipe data and cache and do factory defaults.
* Boot your Tab in Odin mode.
* In odin select your downloaded firmware in Boatloader, PDA and CSC (leave Phone) blank. And click start.
* After a while it reboots (if it bootloops, then clear data and cache partitions again).
When you start your tab you'll have the official ROM version for The Netherlands active. And in my case, the Dutch CSC code PHN. Finally!

Thanks I have saved this for later for whenever I want to return to stock.
I downloaded a zip for my P7510 from SamMobile, but it contains only one file.
Did you mean I need to put that same file in Bootloader PDA and CSC?
Unfortunatly they put a password on the zip... (I will figure out later how to solve this, or do you know...)

About the 1 file: that's correct. I filled in same files in both PDA and CSC. It did not fail. But not sure that it does anything. At least PDA needs to be filled, that's for sure.
About the password: samfirmware.com OR sammobile.com
If you have troubles, better sign up on there forum and search for possible solutions. Couldnt find anything with p7510 and password atm, so should be fine I guess.

I am moving on to the N5 now and ditching my S3. I will continue to maintain this thread, however - please do PM me if you think that something needs to be changed or updated in this thread as I doubt I will be answering questions within the thread as much. Please don't PM support questions to me. Only PM updates that need to be made in the thread.

XDA staff have transferred ownership of this thread to me so that I can update the rooting methods. The reason for this is because the rooting method contained within is outdated and since identified as unsafe.
I have PM'd the original OP @Intratech to update the thread but unfortunately have received no response.
I aim to keep the structure of the thread in tact. I am only here to edit out / replace outdated and unsafe methods contained within this thread. The work below is not my own.

PDA refers to the build version of the software/firmware
Phone refers to the baseband/modem version
CSC is the consumer software customisation and is specific to geographical region and carriers. It contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS etc for your service provider.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.
.PIT refers to the partition information table you only need it if you screw up your partition table or if the firmware specifically requires it because of a change in the partition table layout. It's very likely you may never have to use this.
If the package only contains one .tar archive then it will have everything, pda+phone+csc, in the one file.
If it has multiple .tar archive then:
The .tar with modem in the name is the phone/baseband bit of the package
.tar with csc/multi-csc in the name is the csc bit of the package
.tar with code/PDA in the name is the PDA part of the firmware package
If this is the case you will need to put these .tar archives in the specific areas of Odin to flash the update. Refer to the images below.
You do not need to root or unroot the device to update the firmware.
Please ensure that KIES is closed and not running in the system tray! Kies doesn't like Odin, it's like the big brother who's always jealous that his little brother is getting to flash all the phones so he starts to flash block.
Regarding change logs. Samsung thinks firmware should be like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get and that all a big part of the surprise user experience program so they don't publish any change logs.
Get Odin v3.04 from here: Download
Just extract the Odin folder.
You will also need to install the Samsung USB drivers for the device if you haven't installed KIES. Get them from here: Download
Just install like any Windows program

1. Just download the firmware version you want from the second or third posts and extract the .tar or .tar.md5 file in the archive and save it somewhere
2. Reboot your phone to download mode.
To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .

}
You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode!
3. Start Odin
4. If your ROM is a single .tar.md5 package click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar or .tar.md5 file that you extracted in step 1 and select it. This should like like the image below
If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA/Code, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin like below
5. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.
Regardless of firmware version it's still the same methodology
6. Connect the USB cable and wait for any required drivers to install and the ID:COM section to turn blue like below
7. Click start to flash. If Odin hangs at setting up connection just unplug the USB cable and re-attach it, Odin should now resume
8. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device once the flash has started, it will reboot when it finishes.
If the firmware is from this thread it will not wipe your phone if you flash as recommended UNLESS I state that the firmware is a "WIPE" version.

Recommended methods to "root" depending on your requirements...
1) You want root only. No custom ROMs, kernels etc. Just root, just to use root apps.
CF Auto Root Via Odin
Why? Tried and tested method, simple to use. No need to choose what exploit you want to use as it's tailored for your device.
What does it do? It gives you a stock recovery (so can't flash things) and roots the Android OS
The Steps:
1) Download the Latest Odin
2) Download CF-Auto-Root for your model
3) Follow These steps to root
2) You want to flash custom ROMs / Kernels
If you want root on your existing Android ROM, you can do 1) first. Then flash a recovery of your choice (CWM, Philz, TWRP) via Odin
However, if you immediately plan on flashing a ROM, there's no need to root your existing ROM. Simply skip straight to installing a recovery. Backup then flash what you like.
The Steps:
1) Download the Latest Odin
2) Download recovery of your choice CWM, Philz, TWRP
3) Follow The steps to Flash Philz recovery (But for the recovery of your choice)
These steps can also be followed to update recovery to newer versions

I'm quite familiar with Odin and flashing Samsung phones but thanked you anyway. Nice guide, I'm sure it will be quite useful to newcomers to the Galaxy S and a good refresh for those of us who haven't used Odin in a while.
I'll be sure to skim it before flashing my GS3 when it arrives, hopefully next week.
Happy flashing everybody!

Cheers bro. Thanked u as well. Is it the same way we flash kernel? The insecure one in order to root SIII?
edit: yes used it and then installed Android SDK to have adb in the system. Then run install.bat from the other post to have SU installed.

It's information about the partition layout of the storage, i.e. size of the partitions and their location on the storage medium.
Going from my HTC Desire (and even writing a troubleshooting guide on how to fix the phone etc.) I had NO clue as to how Samsung phones work when it comes to rooting/ flashing. You sir, have helped a lot (for the future), thanks!
Which stock firmware is usually the best (in regards to country)?
Ha, there really isn't one. Samsung releases firmware at different times for different regions and there is no real pattern. At one point it was the UK then it was Poland then it was ....

You should be golden. The firmware is the same for European countries which have vodafone as a provider, e.g. Germany AND of course the UK.
You can verify this is the original vodafone firmware by going to Play Store > Apps - there should be a small icon named "Recommended by Vodafone". Also, you should be able to pay for apps via your vodafone phone plan.
EDIT: I have exactly the same firmware on my phone, and it's definitely a vodafone officiall fw, because I can use my mobile plan to buy apps, which does not work on any unbranded firmwares. This is the only reason I stick with this firmware.
Thanks! I cant seem to find that icon though recommended by vodafone, do you know where abouts it could be at all?
Should look like this. But then again, this is in Germany, might be completely different in Britain, mate...

Thanks! I know what you mean now, unfortunately I do not have it :S not sure what I need to install to have it. I didnt install a new kernel file when I updated the firmware, could this be the problem at all? and how would I install it if it is that with odin
I do not think that the kernel's the problem. See, the kernel is included in the tar-file you flashed and matches that particular firmware exactly. Might be you Brits do not get that vodafone icon in Play Store at all (just a wild guess).
Have you checked for any Vodafone apps (MyWeb, Music Shop, etc.)? They're real easy to spot, as they are all themed red and silver.
But in my opinion you needn't worry about not having an official fw. I checked my own phone, and everything matches the data you posted here.
Yea i have all the other apps including myvodafone, etc. and they all work fine. maybe you're right. but i think i remember seeing it before I rooted it. yea hopefully it'll be ok just wanted to check it all of those details match a UK Vodafone phone. It seems to match yours but yours is german right?

True, but it's the same firmware vodafone distributes for many many European countries. They don't make one firmware for Great Britain, one for the Netherlands, one for Germany etc. I copied the text below from samfirmware.com. As you can see, all of Europe gets the same software exactly. No worries, you're on the right firmware

If there's a modem you want available as easy CWM flash, please let me know. Subject to available bandwidth, and availability of the source rom itself. I'll sort out a flashable modem for you. This is for N7105 only.
Please don't ask which modem is best for me. Different modems perform better for different regions and network conditions, so try Modem only files yourself and report back if your region is unsupported.

According to the following link, Vodacom uses the very same 1800 frequency used by Telstra and Optus.

Here is the latest (and only) N7105 modem made for Australia. Basically just extracted frm the sammobile tar, zipped it up in a CWM flashable zip so I could use it on the latest SA firmware (as AU LTE frequencies differ from SA), and thought i'd share.
made it on my work PC (Winblows) but flashes no issues through TWRP. If you get an error, through TWRP CHMOD the file first through advanced/file manager. I'll upload a better more universally usable and signed version tonight!

Hey mate - Telstra uses same frequencies as Optus - but if I see Telstra pop up on sam firmware i'll package it up. Fact I might package up all modems on sammobile, i'm sure others will find it handy too. Newest modem for another country does not always = best reception/speed
Telstra version of the phone isn't out.
Also the Samsung store Sydney showed me that the Telstra phone is a N7105T.
This may create further issues.

Haha why doesn't that surprise me, sounds just like Telstra. Probably better buy international LTE outright and just getting a SIM of Telstra if you need to use their network
The optus branded n7105 works fine on telstras LTE network. I am using a optus branded n7105 bought from the samsung experience store and 2yrs Aus warranty

Not at home currently so don't have all my nice little scripts - but I would suggest download the voda nz firmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ - search on n7105.
Then you have a complete stock version to flash if require recovery, and the modem.bin can also be extracted easily from the file too.
Working fine for me! N7105 international version on Optus 4G prepaid social plan!
Hmm odd
Ive tried flashing this thru CWM and via flashing the modem.bin thru odin and the result is the same
My modem is on LJ2

I'll double check the installer a bit later when I get some time, but the modem.bin definately came out of the optus australia tar from sammobile, so possibly that is the baseband version that optus is using. My phone says the same, has since I first flashed this.
Hey rekrapg.... Great to see another pies supporter on here. The base band modem version Optus using is LJ2... If you flash the cache.img and hidden.img files that you extracted from the samfirmware along with the modem bin you will update the CSC files to optus OPSALJ3 as well. Works fine through mobile odin. I have flashed the latest DLK7 deodexed firmware then flashed optus modem cache and hidden files on odin....awesome.

Change CSC on Samsung Galaxy Devices with *#272*IMEI number# (replace the red text with your device’s IMEI number), not working any more.
(You can change CSC on Root Devices.) NOTE If bootloader modification to Unlocked state does not trip KNOX, U can uses this tutorial to changes CSC .
NO PROOF
Important Notes:
Only unlocking the bootloader of your Samsung Galaxy device will not trip the KNOX counter.
However, flashing a custom binary such as TWRP or Magisk patched AP firmware will trip it. This may have an effect on your device’s official warranty, so make sure that you check with your regional Samsung support if you’re concerned.
Furthermore, apps like Secure Folder, Samsung Pay, etc rely on KNOX integrity to function. Once KNOX is tripped (that’s after you flash a custom binary), such apps will stop working.
Samsung Galaxy devices with a Snapdragon chipset that are sold in the USA and Canada come with a non-unlockable bootloader. The only way to unlock the bootloader on US Snapdragon devices is by using a paid service such as UNSAMLOCK.

You should see the “OEM unlocking” option greyed out in an ON position stating – “Bootloader already unlocked”.
Why Should I Change CSC?There are a plethora of reasons why you might need to change your Samsung device’s CSC code. For example, if you have purchased an unlocked (carrier unlocked, not bootloader unlocked!) device from any other country, then it would have the language and device settings for that foreign country. Along the same lines, the APN settings and the pre-installed apps will also be of that region only. To overcome this issue, you could easily change the CSC on your Samsung device and flash the firmware of your home country.
What’s CSC on Samsung?CSC is the abbreviated form of “Consumer Software Customization” or “Country Specific Code“. CSC is an essential component of Samsung firmware binaries and it contains customized settings, system configurations, localizations, and geo-specific things such as the system language, APN settings, and carrier-branding.
How to Check or Find CSC on Samsung DevicesYou can check the CSC of your Galaxy device by dialing a code on your device’s dialer itself. The secret code you need to dial is *#1234#
My result.
Look at the line CSC: T225 OLM1 BVGB
it's separated into 3 part. Device model , CSC code , firmware version no.
Since I flashed the CSC code "OLM" (Multi-CSC region XEV "Vietnam") firmware and switched to THL (Thailand) Region CSC, it shows me both the CSCs.
In the 3rd line, you can see the activated CSC, that is THL. This simply means that I’ll keep getting official OTA updates.
Note: After finished installing , bootloader auto relocked again. then before flashing you must installed Stock firmware , toggle on Debugging mode and OEM unlock in developer options. No root.

Now, let’s come to the 3rd line in the above screenshot: THL(1)/THL(2)/THL(3).
The first CSC value, that is THL in my case, shows the active CSC. This determines the access to services and updates. You will receive updates on this channel. This is also the country used for Samsung’s Beta programs in case you want to join one.
The second value "THL” shows that my Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is a One-SIM variant. This value only shows what SIM you have inside, and doesn’t affect any aspect of the experience.
The 3rd CSC value, that is THL again, shows the country code for which the Samsung device has been manufactured and configured. This one cannot be changed and it doesn’t need to. In case you get the phone from a carrier, this value will have the locked CSC code. In case the other values don’t match, your carrier can refuse warranty service (since warranty goes through the carrier in case you’re on a contract.

May I ask is this useable also when switch from different multi CSC? I have XTC now and planning to switch to DBT. And both have different group to try ANdroid 13 if it fixes my light sensor since A11 downgrade is not possible
