Question Fingerprint sensor not working after phone has been on for a few hours? - Sony Xperia 1 III

So I've been experiencing the same issue disucussed here on reddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/comments/un62zy
Basically, after the phone has been one for a few hours to a day or so, the figerprint senor essentially acts like it doesnt exist. Even the fingerprint manager disapears from the system menues. Restarting the phone usually brings it back, but not always. I've seen some people attribute it to heat, but my phone rarely gets hot.
It really feels like a software issue. I contacted sony about this issue, and they say they are aware of it, but all they can really offer is to use the sony Xperia companion program to wipe the phone.
It might help to mention that i am rooted and unlocked bootloader. However, my phone has been for months before this issue started. I don't feel like those two things are connected.
It doesn't feel like a hardware issue. But does anyone have an idea what the issue might be?

I have the same problem as you. Neither a wipe nor a different firmware helped me eventually.
I sadly learned to live with it.

Is it after a few hours no matter what, or have you noticed it stop working after charging? Cuz a bad charger can knock it out, though usually only while charging but it's possibly you have a charger that causes it to stop working until reboot?

I think for me, it is, no matter what it becomes faulty after a while, been using the original Sony charger + cable.
But I have a substitute that I can try, thank you for the info.

I've officially gotten to a point where neither a reboot nor safe mode brings it back.
It's such a weird issue. This phone won't be as easy to take apart as my previous phones.

I still hope that Sony will release a Software Update that fixes it …

Hello Everybody,
Same here, i updated to the last version 61.2.A.0.418.
I have the Xperia 1 Mark III UK version. I did a Factory Reset, and the fingerprint sensor works from time to time and stops working completely.
Then I did a hard reset and format, from Xperia Companion. Also with the same result.
It is the third time that I completely reinstall it using Xperia Companion.
- The fingerprint sensor does not work and if you restart the system it works for a short period of time.
- Another thing that I have noticed is that the problem that the Gmail application does not receive notifications of new emails (despite being turned on and configured) has also returned as it happened in other firmware updates.
- And finally, it only happened to me once but the notification LED turn on in blue light and did not go off until I did a forced shutdown.
I don't know what is happening, why this update has broken so many things. I hope sharing this will help others.

It seems to be an electrical noise design defect. My original Xperia 1 III rebooted if it had a fingerprint set, the screen off, and was fast charging with the factory charger. It self-destructed while sending it in for repairs and SBE made false claims that I had altered the firmware. I exchanged it and the replacement has issues too. I can pick up the phone off the table and it says the fingerprint reader is disabled from too many attempts. The touchscreen sometimes goes crazy too. Tap-to-wake is essentially run-battery-dead-because-screen-never-turns-off.
The other issues in this thread are software bugs, probably with the low-memory-killer. This is definitely not my favorite phone.

I have a UK 1 III and have not really had any problems with the finger print scanner, it struggles to open the phone if the screen is off, but if I pick the phone up and the screen comes on, it unlocks every time using the scanner. I have not modded the phone or changed software and have had the phone for just over 2 years.

Hi I wonder if anyone has tried to replace the fingerprint sensor and flex cable to try to fix it. These could be bought for like 10 dollars together in China so might be worth a try!

x10 won't switch on

Hi,
I've just joined after getting linked to this site. Seems like a huge site with plenty of info but unfortunately after a few searches I haven't been able to figure out my problem.
I recently followed a guide on here for replacing the digitizer on my xperia x10 and I followed it to the letter. After re-assembling the phone it refuses to switch on and there is no response when I connect the charger.
A little history.....
The problem started when I dropped the phone in water. I know I have been told that it would never be right again etc etc but I did everything I could to dry the phone and for a couple of months after the incident the phone would switch on and display perfectly and the buttons would work fine also. The only problem was that the touch wouldn't work rendering the phone useless as I couldn't even unlock the screen.
Anyway, every now and again I would switch the phone on again to cHeck if it had made a miraculous recovery but no joy. After asking some questions I decided to replace the screen/digitizer. I remember the last time I tried switching the phone on a few days before taking it apart it wouldn't switch on. It simply gave out a few flashes from the LED. I put this down to the battery being dead and carried on replacing the digitizer.
The only response I get from the phone now is when the charger is connected to my laptop and I remove the battery, the LED gives out a red flash every 2-3 seconds. Although this doesn't happen all the time. Most of the time I get nothing at all. I must add that I did charge the phone at least once or twice successfully after the water incedent so something else must be causing this.
I have heard of issue with these phones not charging but I don't see why this would happen to mine if it wasn't even being used. The phone was only a month or two old when damaged.
Sorry for the long winded introduction and if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate hearing them.
Thanks,
Gav.
anyone had any similar problems to this before?
I know this is an old thread, BUT my X10 won't switch on either now :/ not dropped it ever and ive never got it wet, i turned it off due to it being laggy and unresponsive and now it won't turn on :/ no ROM's not rooted just stock anyone have a fix ? and no i have tried putting it in the computer for the SEUS to fix it but nothing unresponsive

Serious issue...

Hi there; Could do with some help please I seem to have a series issue with my Samsung Galaxy S2 today. It started this morning; I noticed the screen was randomly turning on; for no reason what so ever. It only does it when the phone isn't charging, if the data cable or the charger is plugged in; it doesn't do it.
Its on version KE7. I have tried a factory reset, and that hasn't sorted the issue. Therefore I seemed to think it was a hardware fault, however with it not being an issue when plugged in I wondered why it might be doing it.
Tap to speak also kept coming up for no apparent reason, I say kept coming up, doesn't happen all the time, but did come up about 6 times today, when I hadn't pressed anything, which would suggest the bottom centre button could be stuck or sticky, however that seems fine; and its not been near any moisture and has been a hot day.
The phone has not ever been rooted; so no issues there.
The phone battery dies very quickly within about 4 hours with the screen turning on all the time; and the phone will randomly freeze up completely, and I have to remove the battery to reset the phone.
Anybody got any ideas? Really could do with some help
Thanks
Rich
Update: It is plugged in charging now; and the MTP Application has come up; like the data cable is plugged in. That seems very odd to me...
Don't be afraid to send it back. These things aren't cheap even if you're paying through your contact, you're entitled to get what you paid for.
Your specific issues may be down to more than one thing. My screen lights up when I've read my gmail on a different device and it needs to clear the notification. Nothing too worrying about that. The other stuff does sound like some sort of shorting though and people have been given replacements for less serious issues.
I'm tempted to get mine swapped because the wifi often won't pick up an IP address and the gps won't get a fix if the phone gets too hot. Relatively minor compared to your issues.

Yeah I think its going to have to, I've tried playing about with settings, giving it time to cool down; pretty much everything I can think of, I really can't think what it could be, it seems to be many issues rather than just one, with it only being a month old, I expected slightly more.
Love the phone, did brilliantly yesterday; used it for lots of things; then today it just suddenly went, took it of charge, and it played up the whole way through.
Given up with it now, will take it back and see if I can get it fixed, I have 24 month warrenty with my contract.
Thanks
Put your original firmware back on if you can before attempting a warranty claim .

[Q] Tablet Turning Off....

I have been noticing this problem since the last 1 week. I never faced this problem earlier. Even with 50% charge, when I turn the display off at night, by the time I wake up in the morning, the tablet refuses to turn ON. When I put it on my cradle, the light turns RED suggesting that the tablet had discharged (which is strange cos I turned Wifi Off before going to sleep.) The only way to turn the display ON (even after charging the tablet for some time) is to click the Reset button.
On Resetting, only on one occasion I found that the tablet had really lost all the juice (which is strange) but on all the other 3-4 occasions, after the reset I saw there was atleast 40% juice left. So it is really strange why the tablet would not turn ON.
I never faced this problem when I had GB. Could this be happening after the ICS update?? Has anyone else faced a similar problem??
Please reply
(I am currently in US but am going off to India in June for a year. Hence if there is something wrong with my tablet, I will not even get a warranty out there. So, unless this is a common problem for everyone, I am considering to sell off my tablet as soon as possible and get some thing else......possibly a TF300)
I have noticed similar issues with my previousley UK tablet and now US with ICS (rooted).
Putting the tablet to sleep and coming back to it later finding it's completley dead and the only way to wake it is to hold the power button to power on or to recharge and do the same .
Thanks. So maybe I am not the only one.
My suspicion is that it is either with the ICS update where something has gone wrong causing the tablet to go to a deep sleep sometimes (This doesnt occur all the time.........just time and often)
OR
Since my tablet is about 6 months old now, maybe the battery Sony had provided is not good enough. Probably it has already started dying.
can others confirm whether they notice any such problem as well??
Note: It doesnt go into deep sleep all the time. Just about 2-3 times a week, I'll notice that it has gone totally dead and the only way to wake it up is to click the reset button and reboot the tablet. (On two of such occasions I noticed the battery completely died........while on the other cases after waking up it still had 40-50% remaining)
Why don't you send it back to Sony to have a look since its still under warranty?
I have been asked to do a reset and factory data reset to see if it solves the issue. I shall be doing that. However, the problem is that this issue does not occur every time. I have noticed it happening one or two times every week. Its not that every time I turn the screen OFF it refuses to turn ON and hence I need to do a soft reset.
The Sony guys still advised to do a factory data reset and then contact Sony for repairs if it doesnt solve the problem. So that's gonna be like another week till I know for sure (If I notice the issue) if it resolved the issue OR I need a repair/replacement.
I have a new tablet (2 weeks of use) with US ICS installed usingh AIO and experienced the same thing twice. I think it's the PS emulator, since the app was running when this happened.
Both times It refused to power on and I had to hold the power button for a while.
I'll keep and eye on it and let you know.
I have a similar problem. It also occurs intermittently and has only been happening post is (rooted in UK with region change).
Yesterday I went out for a couple of hours and left my fully charged tablet in standby. I when I got back it would nt turn on. The green mail notification list was flashing so I knew the battery was ok. Fake I plugged in the charger and the power light was yellow. I waited about 5 mins with the tablet charging and then pressed the power button and it rebooted.
On reboot, then battery showed 50%. This happens maybe once week.

Thought I'm the only one who face this issue.
Mine is wifi SG version and happen once under HC and one more time under AiO US ICS firmware.
Both times I need to do a reset before it came back on.
Good Bye Tablet S
Sony customer care and technical support proved useless in identifying the issue. I pointed them to this and other forums where the same issue has been repeated. I have been asked to Factory Data Reset the tablet. Even after doing that I am facing the same problem. (Once a week now).
When I called them up again, they said I need to send it over to them for service and repair where they will try to diagnose the problem and possibly repair it if required.
As I am going back to India in mid June, my US warranty will be void on the tablet. So I did not want to continue with the Sony Repair process (cos chances are high that I'll face the same problem again and at that point there would be no warranty on the tablet where I could get it repaired/replaced for free).
So, with a lot of burden on my heart, I have moved on to Transformer Pad TF300.
I really loved my Sony Tablet S. However, the software support from Sony really isn't good. They are at least a lot better in the smart phone department.
Will probably go for sony once again when their next generation tablet comes out. Adios........and Good luck to all the tablet S owners.......I hope Sony fixes the issues.........cos customer satisfaction should be the no.1 priority for a company in order to compete with the very best.
As per sony dealer here in Saudi Arabia, sony's warranty works around the world, I asked specifically cause I'm not from here & planning to go home soon

[Q] Issues (stock)

Dear all,
I've been waiting a little before rooting and installing a new ROM to make sure I don't need to return my phone for any reason. (So, it is stock now, no root, locked bootloader, KNOX still there, etc.)
So, far I've noticed three small problems, which I don't know if they are universal or just mine:
Sometimes when I get a call, the touch screen is irresponsive. If I press the lock/power button twice, it seems to work again. (I now have set up to press home to answer.)
It often feels a bit warm, more than I'd expect. (I have it in a case, though, a Spigen Slim Armor. It fits perfectly though.) But this happens sometimes when it is just sitting, not playing games. It is not really hot, but I can feel it warm in my pocket.
Sometimes I get a pop between songs. See this post
(So, at least one person also has the last problem.)
I can live with any of the problems above, but I'd hesitate to have a defective unit which can have bigger problems later on. Is any of the above an issue for you? Any suggestions if I should exchange the phone?
Thanks!
Luis
Do you remember when were the times when the screen was unresponsive?
I've read somewhere that sometimes when the screen is woken up and is under some pressure this will happen, and the only way is to do what you did. It's not uncommon in touchscreen phones though, so I wouldn't worry about it.
The verge app was broken until the most recent app update. Also, the s5 seems to refuse allowing Dashlane's accessibility service from working properly. So no more auto filling passwords for me. Ugh. I hoped rooting might help but it didn't. Now I really can't wait for custom ROMs to start appearing. Samsung, you make great hardware (like amoled displays) but your software sucks. Even the software on my Samsung TV is stupid.
Yes on two out of three!

The unresponsive screen is more than a little issue, it is being reported all over the web, and get's more severe over time. I'm thinking that it is a bad proximity sensor defect, either firmware, hardware or software. Some people are reporting along with myself that sometimes for no apparent reason, the screen will not turn on even though the phone is completely operational! This has happened to me four times now and I am stock with very few apps on my phone, five total games and Pandora. I do use a substitute launcher that I've used for years but I don't believe that would be the issue since others report the same issue with stock launcher.
The pop or skipping you speak of in sound happens to many of us who stream music in our automobiles. It even happens on the note3. The fix is simple for that one though! Turn the screen on. I was told that with many of the streaming software music programs that the phones CPU goes to sleep and does not offer enough processing power to the music program. I stream all day via bluetooth to my Auto's sound system and it will usually start to skip, click or whatever after the phone has been untouched for about twenty minutes. The second I turn the screen on the problem alleviates itself. You can find even more information by googling that one, in fact both of those! The heat one I have not had, both with stock battery and zero lemon high capacity battery. The phone very rarely get's warm. However, when I was using wireless charging it would get warm even after charging was complete but I believe that is a normal event with QI type tech.

Need help, XZU screen or the phone itself is dead

Greetings, I would like to beg your pardon as English is not my native language, however, I will try to describe my problem as best as I could. Also, I already browse previous postings without avail to find my specific problem.
Background
My XZU is c6802 version with Lollipop, updated via PC Companion the day after the official announcement. There were no significant problem after the update, aside the battery that I felt drained faster than prior, barely noticeable though.
The Problem
That was until today. This morning I was using Chrome to do some online banking transaction when suddenly it froze, although from the beginning of my transaction I felt that the browser acting strange, namely it took longer time than usual to process.
After it froze I restart the device using the power button. The screen went blank as per usual restart process, but it never went on again.
At first I thought the battery was empty so I connect my magnetic charger, nothing happens. Unplug it and charge it via the micro usb plug, still nothing happens. I leave it for a while before I tried to switch it on again, but still, nothing happens.
(I'm aware curiouso9 posted about the bug on his stock Lollipop resulting similar problem as mine. However in my case, my phone stayed off without any response even when I try to call it)
I covered the whole screen with both hands and try to take a peek and I'm quite sure I could see a faint light emitted from the edges of the screen (vertical sides when in landscape orientation).
Afterward I try to connect it to my PC and it gave "USB not recognized" message.
Could anyone be kind enough to help me in this problem? I'm a bit reluctant to go to the local Sony Center as it means handing them my device for god knows how long without any guarantee that the problem will be solved.
I would like to thank you in advance for anyone who could spend a bit of their time to respond to this request.

Your battery is dead, you must go to Sony Centre, no other way to recover your phone
Your battery have overloaded your Motherboard, Sony must replace motherboard with new one
Have you guarantee?
Play stupid on Sony support and they will repair your Z Ultra

Really? Wow, never thought of that seeing people in here have their XZU for quite a while without meaningful problem. I guess I still have the warranty (not quite sure thought, it should be expired around this time).
Thanks the-cortana-project, guess I'll have to go to the local Center then.
