I downloaded an unofficial TWRP rom, but users who downloaded it say it works fine.

Also, is there any way to install a custom rom without custom recovery? since i cant use TWRP

TG(Telegram).
Some roms have their own recovery when this one does not exist and must use Fastboot commands to install the rom.
You have to be sure that the rom is for your device, code name FLEUR.
No such roms on XDA, post on T.G.

Can't use the twrp you used on OS 3 for ROMs that don have updated bootloader (currently Ashwins CM13, CM14 do.) For the rest you have to use original twrp. You can just flash it in your current recovery by pressing IMG button bottom right.

Did you install OS 2 before you flashed original twrp?
You have tou use the correct corresponding twrp for each Android version. Official 3.0.20 and unofficial oos 3 twrp version don't work both ways.
Omicron Technics
Fastboot install old OnePlus recovery, then flash OOS 2.2.3.
Then fastboot flash Official TWRP.

The first custom ROM i installed was AICP N from stock 6.0.1 . Then I kept switching between nougat ROMs, and even some alpha oreo ROMs. When stock 7.1.1 came out I installed it, kept for a while and then kept switching between custom ROMs again. Currently in LOS14.1 .

LineageOS 17 falied to flash OTA
I guess my post thread makes it more clear what's the issue. I had downloaded latest update and it failed to flash the update(TWRP). It booted to recovery well from updated menu. I am attaching logs for the same.

You need to use lineage recovery for ota support. Lineage is now more focused on lineage recovery than twrp. Older/newer twrp might or might not work.. Because lineage17 officially support lineage recovery.

Hi guys. I currently have built 3.1.1-r1.
I am having troubles installing LineageOS 17.1 weeklies.
Then I said, I need to update TWRP.
But, I already did data wipe on my phone.
Is it still possible to flash new TWRP? I find I only need to boot into fastboot, then fastboot flash recovery twrp.img and then back to recovery. Is that right?

Yes, that should work. Look here for more details on how to do it properly (just ignore the bit about LOS recovery if you need TWRP):

unfortunately not, the OTA update no longer destroys the LOS but the update script does not run. the phone boot into the twrp, that's it
for aööe who want to have OTA updates should switch to the lineage recovery. for all others who need a manual update, you can continue to use twrp

Can't flash any rom

Hello, I have one big problem with my mate 10 lite
The problem is, when i flash twrp everything is okay, but when i try to flash any custom rom - I always have bootloop, on every custom :/
I tried to use eRecovery to install stock but it ends in the same way - bootloop
What can I do?
I really wanted to switch for custom...
Try using 338 stock rom and then install custom rom.

You can install other custom ROMs even if you are already on a custom ROM. The thing is all steps indicated
in custom ROM threads, ask you to wipe, and format so already they are cleaning necessary things, before actual
installation (flashing) step starts. But the cleaning is not like a proper clean i.e. done by stock recovery, so if you want
to install a new custom ROM, its better to first install Stock recovery, then wipe/format, then install TWRP, and proceed
with new Custom ROM installation.
If any thing does not work for you, then install ur stock ROM, and then install the new custom ROM ur interested in.

I reckon you must have missed some step, as I did tried most of the ROMs shared in this mate 10 lite
section of XDA forums. Specially the part after installation which says to flash Stock recovery n give it a wipe/format that makes the ROM installation proper, later you can install custom recovery.
For stock ROM, HuruUpdater works with TWRP, try one version of HuruUpdater, if it does not work change your
custom recovery to some other custom recovery (other TWRP, you will find many in this forum), and eventually
one of them will work for u. Still, it doesnt work, change the HuruUpdater version to an earlier version, and repeat
the process.

There is no best recovery that will work in every possible situation (e.g. Stock ROM flashing, Custom ROM flashing, backup/restore etc.). So for each custom ROM u better use the recovery that is indicated in that custom ROM thread.

IS there any custom ROM for the Samsung Galaxy j4 SM-j400M?

Hello! I've been trying to install a custom ROM on my SM-J400M for a while now and none worked, recently i tried installing Magisk on it and now it is in a bootloop . Is there any custom ROM compatible with my device? Or it is impossible to install a custom ROM on it? At the moment it seems like it is not even rootable...
Also the version of TWRP that i installed on my device says that it is an SM-J400F instead of a SM-J400M which is the actuall name of the model. Is that a problem? If so please tell me how to unistall it, i wasnt able to find any way to uninstal TWRP on a soft-bricked phone.
Thanks in Advance!

Is There Any Custom ROM for Samsung Galaxy J4?
YES!
Although, this is not specific Custom ROM for this device. This ROM is GSI (Generic System Image), and J4 is greatly support it! (Because it has Android Oreo out-of-box)
How to install it?
Easy, install TWRP from TwrpBuilder's Github, flash GSI Image as usual, flash magisk (if bootloop, flash this might help), and done!
Please note that this is GSI, bugs are widely open. But, as far as I use J4, the only bug I feel are Camera and MTP (fixed by using custom kernel)
Edit: For your TWRP, which version you install?

Thanks for the reply!
I recently discovered that my Samsung J4 is carrier locked so i don't think it is possible to flash a custom ROM in it...
I really tried many things since this post but in the end it would always get stuck in a boot loop and i would have to flash the official firmware in it to restore it.
What TWRP version did i use?
I honestly don't remember but it probably was a unofficial TWRP 3.2.3 or something similar, not sure if it was unofficial or not but it seemed to work...
Also, how would i go around getting a custom kernel to use on the device that would fix those problems?
Again, thanks for replying!

I use TWRP 3.2, and flashed MY builded custom kernel (Only for GSI!) https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j/development/kernel-redline-kernel-samsung-galaxy-j4-t4188199/
You need to update to Android 10 Stock then flash the A64 A/B GSI. And remember to flash dm verity disabler then flash Magisk. Magisk is important too.
For more info about this, feel free to join our telegram group : https://t.me/SamsungGalaxyJ4
In there we have detail instruction to flash GSI for J4. And other issue discussion
I can't write the steps here, because the steps is little complicated. Cheers!

Installing a rom without recovery

Hi everyone, I want install a new custom ROM (I'm on CrDroid 7.6 on Android 11) but I can't boot into recovery. I tried to flash a new recovery but i get this message from fastboot "(remote: '(recovery_b) No such partition')".
I've always installed custom OS using a custom recovery but it seems that that there is no recovery partition on Android 11 ?
Do I have to flash the boot partition with the custom rom .zip directly ?

You need to:
1. root
2. flash custom recovery
3. flash rom
To flash the recovery you use "fastboot flash boot recovery.img" ?
Do I need to flash both partition ?

This phone have a/b partion system. The recovery partition is present or phone will not boot. Install a rom via fastboot is possible but it's not safe. In every custom rom thread you can find los recovery and how to install procedure. Read with accuracy. Open the section kernel and custom rom. I suggest you pixel experience
Thank you ! The PixelExperience thread got a nice procedure on how to flash it.
I'll try to flash this ROM tomorrow to test it.
If this is successful I'll try other ROM without Gapp included and with official release, any suggestion ?

Yeah nezuko and corvus seems pretty good, I would rather use a popular ROM like lineage but those ROM looks very promising
Corvus is fantastic... With some optimization made with root... In my opinion is the best at now. For performance, stability and systemUI
