Xiaomi is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer. It sells affordable smartphones compared to its competitors. For this reason, many users prefer Xiaomi smartphones. However, we need to point out that the brand has some shortcomings. The most important of these is that it doesn’t care about GPL licenses. The kernel source of many Xiaomi smartphones has not yet been released.
I don’t know why no one has made content about it. This is quite important, kernel resources are required for developers to prepare custom ROMs and kernels. Xiaomi has to abide by the GPL licenses. So it should release kernel sources.
Kernel Sources Unreleased Models:
Redmi Note 11 / NFC (spes/spesn)
Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G / Redmi Note 11E Pro (veux)
Xiaomi 12T (plato)
Xiaomi 12T Pro / Redmi K50 Ultra (diting)
Redmi Note 12 4G (tapaz/topaz)
Redmi Note 12 5G (sunstone)
Redmi Note 12 Pro 4G (sweet_k6a)
Redmi Note 12S (sea)
Redmi K60 / POCO F5 Pro (mondrian)
Redmi K60E (rembrandt)
Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition (daumier)
The Redmi Note 11 series was launched in January 2022. The kernel sources of smartphones such as Redmi Note 11, Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G have not been released yet. In addition, the kernel sources of the Xiaomi 12T family have not been released.
Xiaomi 12T and Xiaomi 12T Pro are among the super mid-range smartphones. They have powerful SOCs, excellent AMOLED displays, and quality camera sensors. Especially Xiaomi 12T Pro’s 200MP HP1 camera sensor allows you to get great photos.
At the time, Xiaomi released the kernel source code of the Mi A1 quite late, and this came to the fore. You can see news about it in many places like XDA. And now, the source codes of the models listed above have not been released for a long time.
It’s embarrassing. Many people demand that the kernel resources of smartphones be released quickly. We recommend Xiaomi to be fast and want developers to be able to make custom ROMs and kernels.

Xiaomi Shows No Interest in Releasing Kernel Source Code of its Devices
Xiaomi is having a good time in all the smartphone markets over the world releasing numerous devices. It is popular for producing budget-friendly phones. It has a great user base in the Indian market…
www.thecustomdroid.com
but
newer platforms all use GKI, which means it's identical between devices, even if the SoC vendors are different.
Not sure that they are obliged to release source codes for vendor kernel modules, those are proprietary.

The kernel source code of the Xiaomi 12T series has not been released for a long time. That's why nobody develops ROMs. In addition, the source code of Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition was uploaded and deleted. It has not been released on models such as the Redmi K60. Why is the source code of the Xiaomi 12T series not yet released? Xiaomi has to release them. It must comply with the GPL licenses.

That of the 12 pro ZEUS is more than 1 year old and nothing.
No or few développement for MediaTeck soc.

Something really strange is that I bought the 12T Pro at launch and it came with the Redmi Pad. This tablet as already the kernel sources available

Xiaomi 12T Pro / Redmi K50 Ultra (DITING) has Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SOC SM8475. Why is the source code of this model not published? That's why no one does ROM development. Xiaomi has to publish this. Why are those of devices like the Redmi Pad being published? What does the Xiaomi 12T Pro lack?

I don't understand that either, why doesn't the 12T Pro have it? I hope Xiaomi hears me and releases the source code.

Nobody apart from Xiaomi can release the source in first and still it must be complete and there is a DEV who is interested in it.

Kernel source petition

Redmi note 2's community is big, but unless xiaomi release the kernel source, modding will be very poor. II found this petition, I don't know if it useless or not, but I signed anyway (it takes few seconds). I want to share with you, we really need the kernel source. If you want to sign too, here's the link: https://www.change.org/p/mr-lei-jun...utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink
it's petition for Redmi 2, not Redmi Note 2.
Neither Xiaomi nor Mediatek will care about any petition.. I have the information that someone bought the full source. I am afraid you will have to buy it yourself, if you want it.
This link is for Redmi 2, not Redmi Note 2. Vv
Please create one for Redmi Note 2
Since the Readmi Note 2 is now sold internationally. Malaysia, Singapore (more to come). I am sure Xiaomi will have to do something about the source. They can be sued in these countries. in their home country China they don't care.
It's Xiaomi's responsibility to drop the source not Mediatek's. Since Xiaomi is releasing the product. and they have the source (if they didn't they couldn't make this phone) .

No one in these countries cares, and Xiaomi is way to chummy with MediaTek to release kernel source (and basically help out their competiting clones while doing it). There is only ONE hope, and his name is Hugo Barra. Being from Google, I can see him pushing to get the right thing done. I am from North America and have become a big fan of Xiaomi products these days, and I think I see a lot of his influence in the product line.
I also have the feeling that Xiaomi is trying to tie you into their ecosystem, and charging for services rather then profit off hardware (which is why the phones are so affordable). Allowing good AOSP ROMS to surface will affect their business model.

Cyanogenmod for Xiaomi Redmi Note 4?

Hi all!
I just received my brand new Redmi Note 4.
Is there any plan for having a brilliant Cyanogenmod on it? :silly:
Thanks and cheers,

I think it's quite possible, thanks to the Vernee Apollo Lite that has almost identical hardware (SOC and camera) and an open source AOSP ROM. It should be possible to port that to the Redmi Note 4, and build CyanogenMod based on its source. If a Snapdragon Redmi Note 4 is released, some of the proprietary blobs can be merged if its source code is released.

To some extent, yes. But there are still Xiaomi specific drivers and source code that they either have to release or has to be patched together (usually happens if a device is popular). Considering how popular the Redmi Note 3 Pro is and how beautiful the Redmi Note 4 is, I think we just have to wait a little. Most developers that shop in that price range is still rather going to go for the Redmi Note 3 Pro though.
I had Redmi Note 3 Pro 32GB before (bought for $220 from an unofficial distributor, now it's $175), but it was stolen from me. Earlier this year Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 3 Pro officially in Indonesia. Unfortunately the Note 3 Pro has the 4G LTE disabled by Xiaomi if the phone detects an Indonesian SIM card inserted (it had to do with Indonesian regulations that required 40% of the material of a 4G LTE enabled phones to be sourced locally, else they won't be allowed to sell it here officially).
So when it's time to buy a new phone, I decided to go for the similarly priced Redmi Note 4 with 64GB of storage for only $195, to save me the hassle of unlocking, creating a modified boot.img, flashing TWRP, rooting, replacing the TeleService.apk and repeating the whole god-damned process every time there's a MIUI update. So, not everybody would go for the Redmi 3 Pro vs the Note 4.
Overall, I enjoy this new phone: the superior build quality, double-tap-to-wake function, and the faster fingerprint sensor. What would make this phone even better if there's an official CyanogenMod build for it. But I guess it will never happens. Oh well, I'll just buy a Mi5 or Mi Mix next year.
I wouldn't buy Xiaomi or Redmi, unless, there is a CM for the variant. Without CM, I personally think it is a piece of crap whatsoever. =P
MIUI is so much over-bloated. Looking forward to seeing one CM build. My colleague just bought one and is expecting to get it this afternoon as we speak.
Hopefully CM will be out some time in November~~~He was so impressed by my Redmi 3 pro's performance, lol

But that's your opinion. Maybe, there will be CM. Still, the phone is cheap, and it has decent specs. I'm just fine with RM 4.

I just saw my colleague's RMN4 last night, quite impressive with the color, instantly caught my eyes. It is definitely a good deal. CM on it would make it even smoother & sweeter. I am thinking to get one also for myself when CM is out.

While MIUI is definitely an "acquired taste" I don't think it's that bad. There are a lot of features I would otherwise struggle to get working properly on an AOSP based ROM, and I'd still rather use it than almost any other mainstream OEM ROM. My mine gripe with it is its aggressive memory management, terrible task switcher, and disjointed settings menu. At least it's fluid and decent looking, and the built-in theming is one of the better implementations. I would say it actually adds lots of value to most of their customers and my friends whose Xiaomi phones I rooted prefer the EU MIUI ROM to CM.

Thanks for following up on that message of mine (glad to see it worked, good job getting it to boot). The Redmi Note 4s I ordered are yet to come (first package was lost). Hopefully, this would attract the attention of some of the developers to help you get a stable build for the device. However, I myself would be moving to the LeEco Le Max 2, as this is a Snapdragon device (an SD820 with 4GB DDR4 RAM and UFS2.0 storage and Sony camera) with its sources available for around the same price as the Redmi Note 4. ($220 vs $180).

I got myself Redmi Note 4 16GB for only 100$ but several days later I also got a Xiaomi Mi 5 32GB deal for 200$, so RMN4 now is my spare phone and I use it for my experiment porting rom and building kernel source (if Xiaomi really decide to release kernel source code for their Mediatek phone).
Back to CM13 porting, it's not hard to booting up to home screen, I just used CM13 rom from Vernee Apollo Lite, replaced kernel and some files in system/lib/hw, system/lib64/hw, then it's booted. The problems I've seen in ADB log is SELinux return too much permission denied errors. Will try to fix it when I have time in next week
@longnt2007 any updates on CM13 porting? It will be so cool if works Thanks for that!

Atm all Wifi, RILD, sound, touchscreen, leds... working except fingerprint, because FPC 1020 in RMN4 connected with kernel via Trustonic TEE driver while fingerprint chip in Apollo Lite is different (ETS310) and not use TEE driver, so it's impossible to mix TEE driver with non Mediatek Trustonic rom (AOSP, CM13, AICP...)
Will release a test version of CM13 or AICP based from Apollo Lite in this weekend but I don't know if this XDA forum allow to post CM rom download link without source (already released AOSP rom on a facebook group for testing)...

honor 5x getting nougat?

Hey after reading the software policy on Honor's website, still left wondering. Will it get the update?
Nougat update will be made for Honor 5X. It will take little more time than stock androids.
Remember that Honor 4X, which was released with Kitkat is now running Marshmallow.
Yes it will get,Timeframe 2-3 months
I will bet my money it will, it'll just take some more time then other OEMs, like it did with the marshmallow update, and if not, we can always go through the custom rom route and get it some time later in the future.

I've been hearing that yes the 5x will be getting the update with (Communication Gods willing) a 'more stock/softened version of EMUI". So I figure give it about 4 months after official release maybe a bit longer...

The reason for some other flagship devices not getting Nougat is that their processor wont support Vulkan API.
Since both Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 are powered by the Snapdragon 800 SoC, they are not likely to support Nougat.
According to Wikipedia's list of supported processors, Snapdragon 200, 208, 210, 212, 400, 410, 412, 600, 800 and 801 chipsets does not support Android N. Qualcomm said that the graphic drivers won't be released for the above mentioned SoC's.
Some of the prominent handsets affected by Qualcomm's decision are as follows
Samsung Galaxy S5
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
LG G3
LG Nexus 5
Sony Xperia Z3
Motorola Moto X 2nd. Gen
HTC One M8
OnePlus One
OnePlus X
Xiaomi Mi4
List of other affected prominent mobiles due to other Soc's are,
Galaxy A7
Galaxy A8
Galaxy S5, S5 Plus
Galaxy Note 4
Galaxy Note Pro
Meizu MX4 Pro
Galaxy A5
HTC Desire 828, 830

Honor 7
Huawei P8
Huawei Mate S
Since Honor 5X is running on Snapdragon 616, it will get Nougat for sure.

miui 8 official Nougat beta available for MI5, coming soon for RN3

**MIUI 8 Based On Nougat**
Earlier this week the company Xiaomi Released for flagship smartphone beta firmware MIUI 8 (build 6.12.8) on the basis of Android 7.0 Nougat for the Chinese region. Now the manufacturer has announced the global beta version 6.12.8 from multiple languages ??on official support for a larger number of devices, including Mi3, Mi4, Mi4i, Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, 2 redmi Prime, Redmi Note 2, Mi Max, Mi5S, Redmi note 3 and their variations. This means that the owners of these devices, if they had previously received MIUI 8, can now be downloaded from the official site Xiaomi latest firmware and install it.
Also note that for Xiaomi Mi5 global firmware based on Android 7.0 Nougat is currently only available to program participants of closed beta, but will soon be released to the public.
In the last week there was information that behind the flagship Xiaomi Mi5 manufacturer plans to start testing the firmware MIUI 8 based on Android 7.0 Nougat for smartphones 4C, 4S, Mi Note and Mi Max. And now, after only a few days, the company actually announced the start of closed testing Android 7.0 for the above devices. It is expected that, as in the case of the Xiaomi Mi5, closed beta test the new firmware for Xiaomi 4C, 4S, Mi Note, Mi Max and RN3 will last about a month, after which everyone will be able to test the update.
It is also worth noting that the situation is not yet clear with last year Xiaomi Mi Note. This device is based on a quad-core Snapdragon 801, which does not support Vulkan API in Android 7.0 Nougat. On this basis, Mi Note may eventually not get a stable version of Android 7.0, but this information is not officially confirmed.

Xiaomi is known for updating their mid-range phone's Android version, for only once. We already got a bump from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1. So, no more updates.
My old Mi4i was still on 5.0.2, not even 5.1.1.
Admit it, guys. Android versions don't really bring any changes to MIUI.
Yeah, but my RN3 was made in August and came with 6.0.1...but I know they will probably not release N for it, although its old Mi line is getting it. So better to go for Mi products than Redmi in future if I ever buy Xiaomi again...probably, because its still nice price/performance, but they started pricing new models too high and too many models to choose from. So no stable updatea...well they aim to use a smartphone for max one year

About Android 12 Update - Are we running out of Android 12? 😐

The thread was created and thinking that they share and add all the information they find about the update to MIUI 13 or Android 12 on the Xiaomi Mi 9, thinking to make a request if this does NOT change.
Why do I think Xiaomi does not plan to update the Xiaomi Mi 9?
Browsing in different news articles, analyzes, reviews investigating the Xiaomi phones that will update to Android 12 or failing that to MIUI 13 note that among the device lists there is not the Xiaomi Mi 9, in some they do include devices of its variants such as the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G and Xiaomi Mi 9 Explorer, but not the Xiaomi Mi 9, this information is anticipated, it may change, because of course being ancipated it may change, currently in Their update lists also include very lower-end devices such as the Redmi Note 9s and it will be updated with a Snapdragron 750G processor hardware that is well below our Xiaomi Mi 9 that has a Snapdragon 855 processor hardware if this is A final decision by Xiaomi to include the Redmi Note 9s device and its variants in its update list, but excluding our Xiaomi Mi 9 would be a too unfair decision and not so successful because no Our Xiaomi Mi 9 has a hardware almost equal to the Black Shark 3 Pro that has a Snapdragon 865 Hardware processor, another top of the range from Xiaomi ... So far there is no official information on the update of Xiaomi devices, they are still highly anticipated things, Android 12 has not been officially released on the Google Pixel (the first to receive the update), but we already have some ROMs such as Arrow OS 12 based on Android 12 AOSP, I think it is too fast and unfair if this is a decision final so that the Mi 9 is obsolete in terms of software, in a mobile that supports ultra graphics and high FPS in games like Fornite, PUBG: Mobile or Call Of Duty: Mobile, or high-end emulators ... we are in the flagship forum for custom ROMs, which adds support like six years later but this decision also affects how ROMs are created and the errors in them but it is always better to have the official version or, don't we think about that here? more in a high-low end mobile like the Xiaomi Mi 9, what do you say? Shall we create a petition on change.org? Do we write emails to Xiaomi reminding them of the update? Do we post notes to press on Xioami? Do we make requests at c.mi.com?
You tell me what you think Xiaomi does not want to update the Xiaomi Mi 9 at the moment and what you propose to do if Xiaomi does not update our device officially.
This phone is over 2 years old, meaning it's over its support period. Eventually it will be EOL on November 27th. Whatever comes after that, is a gift from Xiaomi, if any.
Damn that's hard to read

But we have the Snapdragon 855, PUBG: New State was released recently, it still runs with high graphics at more than 50fps, why are we going to run out of Android 12 update?

Unfortunately, it's not specs that matter, but time. When the device was released, there's already a deadline for how long the device will receive updates, be it base Android version, MIUI version or even just security patches. And until the recent 11T series announcement, it was 1-2 years only. Anything after that was always a bonus.
Redmi Note 8 and Redmi K20 join end-of-life product list of nine Xiaomi phones that go EOL in November
The Redmi Note 8, Redmi K20, and their Pro variants will join a list of nine Xiaomi smartphones that will become end-of-life (EOL) products in late November. While bug fixes and stable release updates may still be available for these phones, there will be no more beta development pursued for...

humm, I thought the same ... but we are already in 2021, it is boring to write in PLAIN TEXT, without DeCoRaTioNs, if you realize already almost all the pages are full of CSS, they are not spam pages, they are official sources about it developer Android 12 project.
i think we should make a request to xiaomi
