Question Asian firmware does not work with my American carrier, but European firmware does, even though neither models are on their whitelist? - Sony Xperia 5 IV

Hello,
I got an Xperia 5 IV in February and I love it. However, there is a pretty significant problem with it. I am not about to use data while on a phone call and since I do not have any Wi-Fi where I live, this was pretty much a deal breaker. I even bought a second Sony Xperia 5 IV hoping that the problem was just a flawed model. I'll be returning one of the phones shortly, but having two devices has given me the benefit of being able to experiment.
My carrier is Cricket Wireless, which is an MVNO of AT&T. I knew the problem with data while on a call was not Cricket's fault, because I had used the exact same SIM card on other devices and there was no problem. I then got into flashing for the very first time and I flashed some European firmware using XperiFirm and thankfully, the problem was solved. However, I did notice that the RAM management was worse on the phone with American firmware compared to the phone with European firmware. I then remember watching a review for the Sony Xperia 5 IV on YouTube and the reviewer, who was Irish, complained about the RAM management. When I got my phone initially, I never noticed the RAM problem at all, only the data while calling problem. Because I have two Xperia 5 IVs, I was able to test and verify that indeed, the RAM management on European firmware is worse compared to American firmware.
I flashed Asian firmware onto the phone, hoping that the result would be me being able to use my Sony phone without any compromise, i.e., being able to use data while on a call and have a superb RAM experience. Strangely enough, my SIM card was not recognized. I am aware that AT&T has a whitelist, but the whitelist only includes the American model number and the service worked without a hitch on European firmware.
I am just not sure why this is the case or if there is perhaps any resolution to this problem?

[Q] Desire 601 International Data Functionality

Hey guys,
I have a pretty unique problem and im not sure there even is a solution, but here goes.
The story is that I had been living in Canada for the last 7 months or so and bought myself a shiny new Desire 601 from Virgin Mobile (its a zara_ul). Since then, I have managed to brick it hardcore style, but i was able to ressurect it after 4 months of fruitless attempts through various odd files, sheer dumb luck, and the RUU from mrplowdans google drive (super props by the way, you saved my phone good sir!). I had to SuperCID the phone in order for the RUU to stick.
So it goes without saying that im now running the Telus version of KK (i updated through the usual OTA once i had returned it to stock 4.2.2) on a VM phone. All good, no issues there. Ive since returned home to Australia, unlocked the phone so it works with an Australian carrier, also all good. Im able to make calls and send texts no issue.
My problem is with mobile data. It seems to be having an issue connecting to my carriers 3g/4g. Initially, there was nothing at all, just the bars in the notification bar telling me that i had a good connection to cellular. No little superscript 3G though, and in settings, although mobile data is 'On', it is showing connection failed. Adding a custom APN appeared to work slightly, the 3G appeared in the notification bar and in settings, mobile data was shown to be 'connected', but still no dice when i try to connect to the web or download an app.
Now i vaguely understand the principles involved here, I get that North american carriers use a different radio frequency to, say, Europe, and that differs again to Australia. My question is, is it on the software side? Would it be possible to find an Australian Radio.img for a desire 601 (i dont even know if they sell them here), flash it, and all will be fine and dandy? Or is it the physical antenna inside the phone that is set to receive only a certain frequency? Im not expecting someone to go and find me a working file or anything, i know most of you live in Canada anyway, but im looking for someone with a greater knowledge of these things to find a theoretical fix.
I know I rant a lot, but in the scheme of things im willing to let this problem slide considering i only just un-bricked it a few days ago AND managed to root 4.4.2 (a significant achievement given my non-existent knowledge of android), but it is a nuicance and if theres something simple i can do of course i will.
Thanks in advance for any help <3
EDIT: Ive since done some googling and discovered that they do sell these phones in Australia, and that the Network specs for it and the canadian model that i have are almost identical, many of the frequencies are the same on both. Leads me to assume that its software sided, the telus radio.img is telling the phone to not see non-canadian frequencies.

Taiwanese Z4 Tablet SGP771 in the USA: Any likely problems?

Hi all
I'm about reaching the point that I'm ready to splash out on a Z4 Tablet of my very own. I want the dock, and although I'd likely only be using Wi-Fi / Bluetooth initially, I want the LTE version as well. I'm wondering what stumbling blocks I'm likely to hit, and would appreciate advice, especially from T-Mobile USA users, and those with the Taiwanese-market keyboard dock.
Some specific questions:
* Am I correct in believing I can flash any region's firmware to the Z4 Tablet without rooting / unlocking or voiding warranty using Xperifirm, just like I can for my Xperia Z2 phone, just so long as it's SGP771 firmware on an SGP771 tablet?
* If I buy a Taiwanese tablet and dock, and then flash UK firmware, will the keyboard mapping still be correct? (The Taiwanese dock uses US keyboard mapping, which I want. I definitely don't want UK keyboard mapping, but don't know what provides the mapping -- keyboard firmware, tablet firmware or something else? Unless Sony USA releases US firmware, though, I probably want either UK or Hong Kong firmware on my tablet.)
* If it turns out that I'm stuck with Taiwanese firmware, is there any Taiwan-specific bloatware installed that I can't get rid of, and/or can the language be set completely to English such that I never see any system or stock app using Chinese characters?
* Am I correct in thinking that the SGP771 supports enough of the right frequencies for T-Mobile USA to provide a good, fast LTE experience in most or all T-Mobile USA markets? If I travel overseas to the UK, Canada or Hong Kong (the most likely places I'll travel), should the right frequencies be supported for major networks there?
* If I don't place a SIM card in the tablet, will I have any usability issues? (Repeated warnings on startup / login, persistent warning icon in the system tray, etc.), or can I get a good experience on the SGP771 without a SIM card? I'm thinking within a year or two I'll likely have a phone plan that will allow a second SIM card, but right now I'm on the T-Mobile WalMart $30 plan, which meets my needs very well (boatloads of fast data, unlimited texts, and very minimal phone calls) and so until pricing is more reasonable I don't need or want to pay for a separate tablet SIM
* Any Z4 Tablet owners managed to get the T-Mobile USA Free Data for Life offer on their tablet? If so, are you postpaid or prepaid?
* Has anybody experienced the speaker hiss problem on Taiwanese tablets?
And finally, a catch-all. Anything else I need to be aware of with the Z4 Tablet on T-Mobile USA, and/or with a Taiwanese tablet in the US market?
I bought a Taiwanese SPG712 and I immediately flashed the UK firmware with no problems using Xperifirm. When you first load up android, the first prompt is always language and switching to English puts everything into English no matter which firmware you have.
The Taiwanese and UK firmwares both came with almost no bloat and you're able to uninstall mostly everything without root. It's not even close to the amount of bloat that US carriers put on our phones.
I haven't been able to hear any of the talked about hissing on my tablet, though I haven't really looked for it and the majority of music I listen to on it goes through bluetooth.
No personal experience with the SPG771 but it's like any other android device when it comes to a data connection. If there's no sim card, you'll get a persistent icon and maybe notification on boot if you don't plan on rooting and modifying but that's about it. You could just turn on airplane mode and re-enable wifi/bluetooth if it bothers you.
Thanks for the helpful reply! The most important question outstanding is about the Taiwanese keyboard. If I switch to UK firmware, will the keyboard layout still be recognized and work properly as per what's marked on the keys?
Does anybody have a Taiwanese keyboard who can answer the above question?
OK, it seems that with 227 views, only one person has ever seen a Taiwanese Z4 Tablet, and none has seen the keyboard. Let me rephrase the question.
Has anybody changed their tablet's firmware to that of a different region which has a different keyboard layout? If so, did the keyboard layout continue to match the markings on the keys?
Alternatively, can anybody confirm if all keyboard layouts are listed somewhere in the settings, and you can choose which keyboard layout you want to use regardless of what is printed on the keys?
Thanks!

Data Connection Partially Lost on Unlocked Sprint M9 after Official Nougat Update

Hi all, sim unlocked s-off sprint m9 used to work well on android 6 with official rom. But until the phone was upgraded to Android 7. Data connection stopped working for one operator (NOS in Portugal). However Vodafone works well.
Tried different roms and apn settings, same at all. Data connection does not work on NOS operator.
Does anyone have similar issue and of course any advices?
Thank you all.

Why sim unlock a Sprint variant and not an AT&T or T-Mobile which already support GSM?
did you find a solution?
i have exact same issue.
bought one m9 from ebay with sprint (651) firmware on.
lte was working fine in israel (1800 2100).
after nougat im only getting 3g.
it makes sense that i cant use those bands (1 and 3 i think) on a sprint device.. but it did work with marshmallow
Same problem in the USA
I have (nearly) the same problem in the United States with a Sprint CDMA version of the One M9. The main difference is that my data speed is even worse than 3G, around 10-20 Kbps. Occasionally, I get faster speeds, but I haven't been able to figure out if it is location-specific (but always away from home and work) or due to some other characteristic.
The phone came brand new in a retail box from an eBay seller. It worked as expected for 1.7 years. The OTA update which installed Android 7 (aka Nougat) in early 2017 resulted in the very slow data speeds. WiFi is unaffected, but data is so slow that I cannot reliably send or receive MMS; Google Maps says that I do not even have a data connection for traffic info.
EcoMobile (my MVNO provider; I still have a sprint email address, so I know who is actually providing service) could only suggest resetting my phone; did this twice with no change in operation (but several of the programs which automatically re-installed themselves operated differently, including GMail no longer providing auto-complete for addresses).
After literally 2 hours in chat with htc, they told me that my MEID indicates my phone was "made in Taiwan". I took this to mean that: 1) the person I was chatting with had poor English skills (because aren't they all made in Taiwan?), and 2) my phone is gray market (meaning it was not imported into the country via official channels, even though the manual was in the American version of English).
I came to XDA looking for an answer, too. I was mildly surprised to see that this topic was at the top of the list for the One M9.
The best solution for my situation would be the proper ROM for my phone, but I don't know how to figure that out from the MEID. htc USA says they cannot help me with this.
I could even go back to Android 6, but I do rather like the new features in Nougat.
Alternatively, I could root the phone and install a 3rd party ROM, but I still need to know how to choose the proper one for my phone.
I hope this info finds its way to a helpful expert.
Regards,
Jeff

Tmobile S21 Ultra unlocked last month. CSC Shows TMB/XAA. Is this an issue?

I recently moved tmobile to usmobile CDMA/Verizon. Tmobile unlocked my phone without any issues.
I was expecting the next security update to be a fresh/vanilla samsung rom.
This didn't happen. I have read multiple things about people having issues with non-tmobile bands working on the device if the CSC is wrong. USMobile has me manually set the APNs and the phone connects to 4g/5g without issue. However the ultra wide band does not seem to want to work.
Is there an issue here? It's really hard to tell. Should I wipe the device? I really don't have the means to install a downloaded firmware at this moment. At the end of the day, I don't care that it's branded - just that it functions on the CDMA network fully. If it wont, then I will jump over to the GSM side of USMobile.

Question Sony Xperia 1 iii xq-bc62 5G not working. Flash xq-bc52?

Hi, i bought a unlocked xq-bc62 in US. I travel a lot and discovered 5G won't work in several carriers networks, no matter what I do in the phone ( I spend more time outside US). I called the carriers support and they confirmed their network doesn't have any lock preventing the use of overseas 5G bought phones. So far, I tried to use it in Portugal, UK, Ireland and Brazil but 5G is not recognized by the phone. I changed the sim for a 5G local one, changed ASN, manually chose network (5G ones are not displayed) and no success. I even tried to pray, but again, no success. I contacted Sony Support and they said phone will only work in 5G in 2 of the 3 main carriers in US and not outside US, despite the phone tech specs says it will work in all the frequencys used by above carriers. There are some threads here that confirm xq-bc62 Is not a full 5g phone. All said and done, my Question: is it possible to flash another region Image like xq-bc52 or xq-bc72 in this hardware? Will it work fine and, mainly, will 5G networks be accessible outside US? Tks
Some times its hardware but you can try mtk engineer mode settings there may be something of use there
If you can get the original vendor file usually have (user low ship...) its usually international
Unless the phone is using 4.5G and not real 5G

Yep, the US models have numerous disabled features and run late on updates. I've also noticed it's crippled or disabled while roaming. I'm not sure if it's directly from disabled features or it it has been blocked by telcos because it malfunctions. (It gets kicked off cell towers in the US)
The US model has slightly different radio hardware so I would expect problems flashing the OS from another region. There are some tricks for changing the feature lists that might be a safer bet.

How would one check what is and isn't turned on network wise??
I was able to flash the XQ-BC52 ROM in my XQ-BC62 hardware. So far, working fine in 4G+, but I´m in area with no 5G coverage. Tomorrow I will go to an 5G area and check f it worked. If not, I will try the XQ-BC72. I will keep you posted.

Maybe something along the lines of Getting VoLTE and VoWiFi on unlisted carriers by flashing mbn file or 5II/1&5III VoLTE patch. [Guide to release the root] or https://band.radio/
I haven't rooted yet so I haven't tried them. I bring a T-Mobile LG Velvet 5G with me when I travel. It's a little slower but doesn't have all the telco problems.
Test done, xqbc-52 doesn't see 5G network as well. XQ-BC72 SEA is a no go, don't even recognize the SIM card in the phone.
Will try another firmwares and the tweaks kevinmcmurtrie mentioned above, but my feeling is: I paid the 5G price for the Phone and actually got a a 4G Phone. Very frustrated with Sony. Thinking seriously about going back to Samsung.

But hey here's the pros, best physical camera sensors, Micro SD card Slot and headphone jack...
UPDATE!!! 5G is working!!!!! After Several Attempts, I finally got 5G. What worked for me, in Claro BR Network, was flash a Hybrid ROM. I Flashed A XQ-BC52 ROM with Modem files from XQ-BC72. So far everything working as it should. My only concern, next month I will be in Germany, may I have trouble in LTE over there with XQ-BC72 modems?

Tks for the spirits up Ainz_Ooal_Gown. The main reason I Bougth Sony 1 iii is the 3,5 mm jack. I hate USB adapters......
Ok, major setback. it worked for 3 hours and when I turned on my second Sim card the phone 5G was gone. Turned it off, reset radio configs, but no success. Apparently turning the second sim on override the BC72 configs. Time to get serious now and root the phone, what I'm very reluctant to do.

How did you manage to do that? Could you please explain the process?
Settings, Network & internet, Smart connectivity and turn off. On by default. See if it works. I found where I am at it tends to look for wifi over 5G.

That's what I want to more..i have the xq-bc72 on mint mobile and no5g.even my kids xiaomi 11 5g ne has 5g on mint.
I am on Mint, T-mobile towers. 5G works great, has to be in your settings. For MMS use the T-mobile APN settings.
I would like to activate 4g+ on my xq-bc52!
how to do ?
thank you.
