General Port-Windows-11-Xiaomi-Pad-5-Pro-12.4 and Support for Xiaomi-Pad-6-Pro - Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro

The performance improvements on (SD870 SoC) is up 20% and it is about as fast as Surface Pro X (SQ1 SoC) that cost significantly more at a price of $999.
Now they are people asking for a lower price that cost $500 less can buy Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4(SD870 SoC) or Xiaomi Pad 6(SD870 SoC) if it can offer same Windows 11 support from the older model of Xiaomi Pad 5.

there isn't even an edk2 uefi image for this device yet
so no matter what most stuff like ufs, wifi, bluetooth, touchscreen, usb and more that requires drivers will not work (yet)
if someone ports it I will be the first one to try it but for now it won't work

Which processor brand to choose when buying a new device?

Hey XDA Community,
after 3 1/2 years i'll retire my Galaxy S3 and get a new phone. So far so easy.
But as a Android enthusiast, i can't just buy a new phone, it has to be a phone which offers a good hardware base for using custom roms. And what i learned in the last 3 1/2 years is that, for example, Samsungs Exynos processors are NOT a good hardware base and rom developers hate Exynos processors.
So here we come to the magic question: Which is, from a developer view, the best, and what are acceptable processor brands which allow developers to develop a rom (more precisely the "device tree") which can make use of all of the processors features and its performance?
I think the following two brands are well known among all custom rom users and don't need to be commented:
Exynos -> as described above, "the Antichrist"
Qualcomm Snapdragon -> as far as i know the Holy Grail for developers
But what about the "underdogs"? How developer friendly are the following processor brands which now appear more and more in (flagship) phones from Huawei, Xiaomi and many other smaller phone manufacturers:
MediaTek (currently used by some Acer phones)
Hisilicon Kirin (for example used by the Huawei Ascend Mate 7, Huawei Honor 6 ...)
Nvidia Tegra (for example used by the new Google Pixel C tablet)
Intel Atom (for example used by the Asus ZenFone 2)
I'm excited about your experience with and recommendations for these "underdogs", especially if you are a developer!
Best regards,
Mika
Mediatek - Not developer friendly. Not easy to create custom ROMs for this brand of SoC.
Never heard of Hisilicon Kirin SoC. Not too sure about Nvidia Tegra.

Only qualcomm.
Hisilicon is a no go. No sources.
Sony + Qualcomm is the best choice.

I added the "Intel Atom" processors to the list of choice. Perhaps a little late, but i think it's not unimportant.

Intel is a no go as well since it's pretty new. As for your choice of SoC, it really depends on your needs. If you want to use a custom ROM, you're best off with Qualcomm. Otherwise most SoC will work fine for you. I own a Galaxy S6(Exynos SoC), unknown China phone(MediaTek SoC) and a HTC M8 HK edition(Qualcomm SoC). I can use them all just fine in my daily life.

If you want the most development, nexus devices will always have the best open source support. If not a nexus, stick with qualcomm . all the other socs have less open source support and therefore fewer developers willing to work on them. That doesn't mean you won't get custom ROMs (zenfone 2 is going well), but the pool of people able to do real development on it is tiny...
nVidia also releases open sourced images for it's devices...

My question is only meant to find the best choice/choices for using custom roms.
You're right, if just looking for a new phone, the SoC is not the most important to look for.

Hey @codeworkx, just one question regarding your sony recommendation.
What do you say about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/loss-drm-keys-t2890936
If Sony offers you good conditions / sources / binarys and whatever to develop a custom rom, but kills or at minumum downgrades many of the phones features when unlocking the bootloader (camera quality, screen quality, sound quality ...) would you buy this devices at all?
Or is there a way arround this bootloader mess which just isn't known in the thread linked above?
Regards,
Mika

Redmi 3 Pro with Qualcomm Quickcharge 2.0?

Hey... Got my Redmi 3 Pro last week, this is a fantastic device!
I read a lot about it before I bought it but there is one question left: does it support Qualcomms Quickcharge 2.0?
Read about it in another forum, they couldn't give an answer. Also there is a list made by Qualcomm about the devices that support Quickcharge, there are some Xiaomi devices but no Redmi.
Is there anyone out there who can say yes or no?
Thanks

No.
So, yes and no like always.
Well, as far as I know, the thing is like that: the soc (snap 616) does support Qualcomm QuickCharge, but the device itself doesn't, because it isn't just about having a specific processor.. It requires also a certain level of quality in all the other components (and Redmi3, being a low end device, doesn't have it)
Redmi 3 only supports the "standard" 2A quick charge.. I have never tried checking the actual charging time.. I believe it is around 2,30 to 3 hours

Thanks... The phones price tag is low end, the specs are midrange. When you look what devices Qualcomm Quickcharge 2.0 support, then the Redmi 3 Pro could also support it https://www.qualcomm.com/documents/quick-charge-device-list
Even the bigger brother the Redmi Note 3 supports it.
@MTK6589 If you don't want to answer then let it be. I'm no noob who buys a phone, crashes it and asks in different threads how to repair it. I read a lot about the Redmi 3 Pro, but that is the only thing that wasn't clear. You're very unfriendly in my opinion, don't know why!

I know the specs are midrange.. But the quality of the materials (probably) is not.. And i am talking about the USB connector, the battery, inner filaments, and so on.. Not every piece of metal is capable of tolerating a big current through it without being damaged

A Redmi note 4 HelioX20 MIUI 8 Andriod 6 or a Redmi Note 3 Pro 3GB RAM W/ Snapdragon?

Should I purchase a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with Helio X20 MIUI 8 with Android 6 or a Redmi Note 3 pro with Snapdragon? Even if Xiaomi releases a Note 4 with Snapdragon is there much of a difference in the 4 to wait, by chance? Seeking opinions, if I am in the wrong forum please guide me, thanks.
Always choose for Snapdragon. By my own experience.
Only take a look to the Snapdragon v/s Mediatek version dev sub-forum....
the x20 is faster, but not by much. the sd650 is proven very battery efficient
i would go for the sd too
Redmi Note 3 Pro by a long way. Unless you are happy using MIUI then RN4 may be ok. I cannot stand MIUI. Personally if you could wait then wait for the Redmi 4. Its supposed to be 5" 1080p Snapdragon 625. I am waiting for it as the RN3 Pro is too big for my hands.

Yup looks like it. Time to play the waiting game for hopefully an early Christmas present :good:
Xiaomi should compete against the Samsung A9 Pro for the next Redmi Note. That has a 6" screen, dual SIM and separate MicroSD slots (no hybrid slot nonsense), 4 GB RAM and 32 GB storage.
A larger Redmi Note would be welcome, for me anyway, because a Mi Max is simply too big. I wouldn't get a Mediatek-based phone ever again after being stuck with KitKat on a Note 3G. Qualcomm are a lot more respectful of GPL issues. Anyway, I think the Helio X20 has too many small cores - these work well in benchmarks but they do nothing for real world usage.

This is a developer forum, not a marketplace. You can poach customers somewhere else.
Helio X20 have a little better performance in CPU and Adreno 510 burns Mali-T880 MP4 in Helio X20 and even X25.
Helio X20 CPU is 4+4+2. More like Snapdragon 615 with 2 high performance core from 650. But since XDA having far better support for Snapdragon.
If you want a better performance, go for Note 3 Snapdragon.
I'm predicting Note 4 Snapdragon will use Snapdragon 652/653 with 2/3GB Variant and a special edition with 4GB RAM will wreck any mid-range smartphone.

MediaTek or Snapdragon?

As we are in the 21st century, there is no limitation of technology and one of the most famous examples of emerging technology is our smartphone. Day by day they are getting more and more ripped as well as more powerful. When we talk about the performance of the smartphone, everyone knows that on which factor the performance depends, the hardware offered by the brand and the optimization done by the developers/engineers. And one of the best examples of correct optimization and hardware is the iPhone, but as more than 70% market share is for Android so in this article we will be focusing on Android only. When we think about the processors powering Android devices, the two most popular names which come to our minds are Qualcomm and MediaTek. So in this post, we are comparing the two processor makers MediaTek VS Snapdragon by 2018-2019.
Watch Avengers Endgame online
I personally prefer SD then MTK.
MTK device is not really good for development. For example, Redmi Note 4 mtk is die in MM, they have Nougat (unofficial), but a lot of serious bug can't be fixed. Meanwhile the Redmi Note 4 SD still alive and going to Android Q with GSI and Treble.
And I don't see any Flagship using MTK, and I think SD is better for performance so
SD = Performance
MTK = Lower Price

Question Redmi Note 10 vs Redmi Note 10 5G

I ordered a "Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Lake Green 4Gb Ram 128Gb ROM" from Amazon. All my research indicated that this phone was a Redmi Note 10:
Qualcomm SDM765 Snapdragon 765G Octa-core processor
Lake Green color
Model M2101K7AG
I received what appears to be a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G:
Model M2103K19C
However, it appears to be:
Lake Green color (not offered on XIaomi Redmi Note 10 5G)
Qualcomm Octo-Core Max 2.2GHz (Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G has a MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor)
So, from my research I appear to have a quasi Note 10/Note 10 5G.
Before I go through the Amazon return process, can anyone help me:
1) Identify whether the phone has mojito vs camellia?
2) Find any other identifying information that would determine if this phone is capable of using mojito targeted ROMs?
3) Tell me which phone I have in my hand?

Redmi Note 10 (mojito/sunny) have a Snapdragon 678 processor
check Aida64 or Device Info HW to see all device specifications
or send pictures of the device so we can recognize it
Device specifications lists:
Android version: 11 RP1A,200720.011
MIUI version: 12.5.1.0(RKSEUXM)...which seems to indicate Redmi Note 10 5G
Baseband version: MOLY.NR15.R3MP.V4.3P63
Kernel version: 4.14.186-perf-g11c1b40f5322
But I cannot find mention of mojito/sunny or camellia.
I used Aida64 and it noted:
camellian
M2103K19C
MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor
So, this confirms that it is a Redmi Note 10 5G, but also seems to indicate that the seller is shady.
Thank you for the advice on where to look, it was very helpful.

Actually Dimensity 700 is superior over the SD678 in more ways than one. Plus the refresh rate of 90 hz and you got a clear winner. I have the Redmi Note 10 and it is an ok phone but it struggles running more than one app : e.g Outlook and Maps, making switching between them a real pita. It sometimes takes up to 10 sec for Outlook to open a mail. It is ridiculously slow CPU for what it is supposed to do on a modern Android Platform.

I meant no judgement on the Dimensity 700, I only meant that the seller clearly stated that it was the Snapdragon, but the phone had the MediaTek, which indicated shadiness to me. I am sure that the Redmi Note 10 5G is great, and better than the Redmi Note 10, which is why it costs more. But it was not the phone that I was looking for.
