Question Galaxy S23 Ultra two main issues - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Just bought the S23 Ultra yesterday.
Problem 1
This tab thaf says wifi calling confirm address does not work when I put my address in and this confirm address just sits there and won't close.
Problem 2
My default browser is samsung internet of which is my favorite browser.
Everytime I click a link in my gmail email, A unknown browser pops up every single time, At the top right the 3 dots of the unknown browser it gives me the option to open in samsung browser.
I want to be able to click on a link in my gmail email and my samsung internet browser opens, not some weird browser
With my note 10+ I do not have these issues, I do not have a default browser that never opens, but a unknown browser opens.
This is a severe headache for me.
If these issues can't be fixed. I'm goinv to return this S23 Ultra get my money back and be happy with my note 10+

I'd stick with the N10+, I have two. The biggest issues are SOT and no expandable storage. In spite of being a dinosaur it's a better balanced and more functional phone especially if running Android 9 or 10. New ones can still be purchased loaded with 10. It's a joy to use and is still snappy fast.
The wifi issue may need an update. For both issues try clearing the system cache. Android Web View is probably what you're seeing. You need to set the Samsung browser as the default browser. If that doesn't work there's probably another buried setting you're not spotting. Samsung is notorious for this... some hidden menus aren't even marked. Start double tapping... everything

Note, to those ignored members (3) below laughing this 1.5tb daul drive N10+ gets 9 hours SOT with a degraded battery that's set for replacement. How's your SOT?

GMail probably has a setting to open it up within the app. If you turn that off, it should open with the default browser.
I have the same issue with the WiFi Calling with Telus Canada. I know what it is though. It's the carrier, Telus, blocking me from using it because I bought my device from T-Mobile USA and not them.

I can confirm that this is a simple fix as mentioned by jcsww. Open 'Settings' in Gmail. Then go to 'General Settings' and untick 'Open web links in Gmail'.

It's not the carrier. It's your US spec phone.

No. It's the carrier! I was told specifically by a Telus Network Engineer that they block all non-Canadian devices and devices not sold by Telus from accessing VoWiFi and VoLTE. Some devices are also blocked from accessing 5G.

I wonder if the situation would be the same in reverse? Canadian phone with US carrier. Didn't realize you have a residence in Virginia as well.

It works fine with every other SIM from Canadian carriers. Even flashing to the W firmware yields the same results. Canadian and US devices are pretty much the same hardware with the exception of a mmWave antenna that is on the US versions but not the Canadian.

3g speeds

I thought I'd post this since I couldn't find the thread when I needed it and thought it might help someone. If anyone noticed data got worlds better with the ota update but I was still having signal issues. I called Sprint and got my msl number. Using that type ##3282# to access secret menu and just delete the redirect under edit mode then advanced and I believe It's the last option under advanced. There are two there to delete. Post if your confused and I'll clarify. But i now get an average of 1 mega bit down when i used to get 200 killo bits down. Hope this helps someone.

Well I meant well. Guess you guys have great service
boom!! from my shooter
do I need to take the OTA update in order to do this, because the last option under the advanced menu on my phone is the RTSP/HTTP Setting?

got it. I've tried that before, but it didn't work for me, it actually cut my download speeds by half... thanks for sharing this though
Mine says RTSP proxy port, rtsp proxy address, http pd proxy port and http pd proxy address.
What does it actually do if I set everything to zero?

To quote myself in the original thread: I'm pretty confident that removing the proxy has made no difference for anyone based on my results.
Edit: I'd love to be proven wrong, just post an Excel sheet with 10 speeds tests before and 10 speed tests after, just like I did. The Speedtest app exports to CSV so this is a snap.

by definition of what a proxy server is... there shouldn't be much of a difference in speeds; at least not in download/upload speeds of large files.
When using something like speedtest it would only be slower in the sense that it has to hit the proxy first but it would literally be a millisecond to see the file doesn't exist and just go to speedtest's site/file.
Browsing a webpage on average, technically would be faster hitting the proxy server, but the times you get a miss averages things out in the long run.
this whole thing about a secret menu is new to me.
but i have noticed that youtube vids load very very slowly. but when i downloaded the sprint update it breezed right through the 45mb or so.
is there a how to on this, or just the info in your first post?
a how to on accessing the data menu on your phone?
just dial ##DATA# which is ##3282#
the moment you hit the last # sign, you should get a pop up option box for either View or Edit. To edit you need the MSL code for your phone.
Well the biggest difference I noticed other than jumping my speed by a megabit yesterday was that YouTube which for some unknown reason would only work on WiFi and now works on mobile. And trust me I went through all the YouTube fixes before. I posted a thread asking about it. I just wanted to put this out for anyone that had my problem. Oh by the way the data jump isn't as significant today.

[MOD] MarketAccess.apk

I'm using the MarketAccess app with latest market version and it works flawless. I did not liked the original icon and also the fact that the icon title was not spanning properly on the screen. So I edited the original .apk and replaced the icon as well the title.

Is there any basic guide on how to best use this?
MarketAccess is a branch of MarketEnabler. Personally, I use its very basic function.
With the Market closed, I go to:
Market Access > Providers > T-Mobile
Then, I open the Market and install any US restricted apps. Once I'm done with it, I reboot the phone and the default settings are automatically restored. As I said, pretty simple and basic.
From what I understood, you did not create this, (correct me if I'm wrong ) therefore it doesnt belong in the development section

What kind of useful apps are US only?
My favorite are:
Amazon Mobile
Google Books
Google Music
Google TV Remote
Netflix
Not sure if Books are now open to everyone, they just added Google Videos to Canada.
Personally, I live 45min from the US border and I have an US address/credit card. We have Netflix in Canada but the selection really sucks, compared to US.
I use a E4200 DD-WRT router as PPTP server with US IP's to all my devices (Google TV, mobile, tablet, etc.) when I'm at home. For example, you need an US IP to upload your music to Google Music site but you can use any IP to download/broadcast Music/Video's to any of your mobile devices. I know is not easy, but is worth the trouble. It really sucks that we have all those restrictions.
At least I can get all my music anywhere, without taking any space on my mobile.

Credit is clearly given into OP, I certainly hope is not going to ruin your day.
I saw many mods posted here (if you can call my change a mod... took me 2min to modify the APK), so I think is the best place for it, since is not related to Original Android development.
MOD = modification of an existing application created by someone else
There are tons of MOD threads listed in this forum, from what I saw.
Still, if I'm wrong, please let me know what would the the appropriate forum so I post there next time.
Cheers
Mate it seems to be working partially with the new market 3.1.5
You can see the currency changed to USD but you can't see the regional apps.
Could someone confirm this ?
Thanks.
It's true. I found a trick for this maybe it's too much of a headache but if you want to use new market then what you have to do is
1. Install market access.
2. Go emulate say for example t mobile.
3. Go to settings/applications/manage/ and then uninstall the updates for market. .
4. So now you have the old market. Now open the market.
5. Then wait for some time. Since it is connected to t-mobile it will update to new market.
6. Now you can download all the apps you want with new market.
The thing is it only works till restart. Then you have to repeat all the steps again.
Big hassle I know but if you absolutely have to use the new market then this is one way. Cheers.
P. S. Simply use old market with market access and freeze market updater using titanium backup to avoid all the hassle and use US APPS.

Can you give me an example of app that does not work?
I'll test it on my phone with Market 3.1.5 and let you know guys. So far all apps worked for me, I'm in Canada.
Edit: I think I know why is probably not working for some of you.
You need an US IP address as Wi-Fi spot. My DD-WRT router is set as PPTP server and broadcasts an US IP through wireless as well wired connections. So when my phone connects to the market, it does it through an US IP. Using the VPN directly into phone will not cut it.

You don't believe me?
Ever think its because every other platforms FB app has been recently updated..and WebOS has not?
Facebook now requires a GPS connection, hence why almost all mobile FB apps give a rough location now when you post
OK.. Next question.
About that SIM Card slot...
Antenna? SIM Card? SD? Identifier? What IS that?
What exactly is that? Can you take it out? Can you insert something into it? Can you use it in some way?
If not...why would they include it...? It must be useful in some way...
That's odd...
its the sim card slot for the 4g models. on all other models its a dummy with the serial number
and there is NO sim card hardware if you have a dummy slug, teardown confirmed
but it DOES have the pins and chipset to wire one in but that would require a meta-doctor of the 4G doctor for drivers (webOS), but then CM7 would not work
Would have loved to have had an SD slot.
that would have been nice for the 16GB users, but im sure there will be a much easier method for OTG with a flash drive/sd card reader in the near future

Facebook no longer does that for iPhones, Androids or anything else. It'll simple say via mobile, if anything.
Maybe Facebook is buying WebOS?

Read this http://www.precentral.net/how-webos-facebook-app-made-jobs-yell-zuckerberg to understand why facebook for webos isn't as consistant as official facebook app interfaces.
Regarding the via mobile message, like others said, it was updated for ios and android devices. It still says Blackberry, Windows Phone, etc for other platforms.
You can put your conspiracy theory to rest.
Okay.
Is anyone getting that Wifi and Sound problem from time to time?
Every now and then, the sound will become rattly. It just happens.
And every now and then, the WiFi will just stop working. And you have to reset it.
It's happening increasingly often..is it just me?
Noticing the WiFi issue for sure. Never happened before 3.4.
Um, in Android. What's with Facebook not working?
I see people with the icon on their homescreens. But... Why if it doesn't work.
It shuts down repeatedly.
I never really looked into this issue since I browse the facebook website rather than using the app but I did skim over this issue. I believe it crashes because it's trying to pull your location and the touchpad has no GPS. Solution is to fake it. I think there's a fake gps app on the market to fix this.
As to why people have the facebook app. 2 functions. Contact syncing and ability to share photos via facebook app.

What is the cause of the HP TouchPad's bulkiness? If you tap the back of your TouchPad with your fingernails, it sounds hallow- do you think they'd be able to issue out new backings that would make the TouchPad half as thick?
Another thing is, you can scroll through card view left and right, but why not up and down?
Ever notice in webOS, when you're interacting with card view and you tap to bring the card up and it's blurry for a moment- why does that happen?
Odd...

Question Esim option hidden

Hi,
I am currently using a Pixel 6 and I am trying to change to Esim, my provider gives the option for Esim and has provided me the QR code.
I go through the complete process, the phone is able to download and install the Esim and provides me with the message that I need to go to settings and enable it, however when I go over to the settings screen all that I am shown is just the regular settings screen as if I hadn't added anything at all, if I try to add it a second time it tells me that the sim is already on the device, this used to be a Verizon phone and based on the threads it looks like they are ass*** and block services and features on purpose to make more difficult the change to a different provider.
My guess is that the Esim is added and is there but the option to turn it on is hidden somewhere, is there a way to turn the Esim on through adb or to make visible a hidden menu ?

I mean that list is only for purchases that you can buy directly from google within those countries, for the features as long as the provider works with the same frequencies, it should basically work the phone works with a regular sim, it is specifically with esim that the menu is either hidden or deactivated.
To provide additional information I found:
Looking for additional information I found that by running the command
dumpsys isub
from within a shell it would list the sim profiles I decided to run the command while having a physical sim card and after removing it the first outcome was this:
{

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and after removing it was this:
So effectively the profile is there for the esim just not activated, while looking at the docs for android https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/connectivity/telecom/telephony-ids the sims should be listed as 0 and 1 for the physical slots, sim and esim regardless on how many logicals there are, however when the physical gets removed it should go to esim or slot index 1 but instead it goes to -1.
Additionally in one of their forums Verizon said that they did disable the esim on purpose so it looks like it is remnants of their previous ways (apparently they donĀ“t do it anymore) if anyone knows how to switch through ADB it would be a great help, I get some Java codes but I am not sure how to run them
Adding additional information I managed to look at the logs of the system with the Android Suite and the logs indicate that system is not able to see Sim 1 or Sim 2 due to no permissions, I know that Sim 0 is the one on the physical tray so my guess Sim 1 is the Esim and Sim 2 possible a logical one

General Those wonderful inventions (Call recording)

I still remember the first bitter feeling when I learned that I could not record the calls, I felt helpless: The companies could, and can, record me but I could not record them to avoid an injustice in the future.
I had a Huawei then, now a S23 Ultra, and discovered the following marvel:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

}
This app only took a few kbbs and added the record button in the phone menu, it recorded in very good quality and solved my life.
Now searching for the Samsung I haven't found anything similar, but I'm sure we might find something similar in some Chinese file or from some random person.
I know what you are going to tell me, there is Cube ACR (but I refuse to give permission to the connector and have access to do whatever I want with my phone) and the change of CSC region to INS but I refuse to believe that something as simple as the file I left in the photo does not exist.
Skvalex call recorder
It's free, and you download it from his website and everything just works. If you want pro features you buy the unlocker app from the play store. But basic recording features are free. And no root needed. I've used it for years and works completely offline if you want if you wanted to make sure it doesn't data.

Although the app is not available on PlayStore, I downloaded it from their official website and it also asks for full access (connector) just like Cube ACR, which is too invasive.
While it requires that for the recording I have used it while blocking all internet connectivity to the app and it works just fine without internet therefore it's not collecting anything if it can't connect to the internet

It's an interesting option, although I'm not entirely convinced, as with access to the whole phone, any command could intermittently activate internet access.
Still, out of curiosity, how do you block an app from accessing the internet?

I use a combination of things. I have NextDNS on all of my devices including home wifi and set as private DNS on any device with that setting. I also use tracker control to block internet access to specific apps on device.
