Question Google Pixel 6 GCAM MWP mod - settings do not work for video - Google Pixel 6

Hi,
I tried the modded Google Camera (GCAM MWP 8.3.252 V1e) which was recommended as stable and I experimented with different settings but I do not see any difference in videos even for very extreme setting.
I did set Custom Libs to "MWP_xHDR" and activated "Enabled Lib-Patcher" and changed all settings under Global settings and Noise reduction settings to the minimum but the videos still look oversharpened and oversaturated as before.
Am I missing something or do the settings simply have no effect on videos?
For photos I use the original Google Camera app as I take pictures in DNG anyways.
Best regards
ifelcon

Lib-patcher won't work for video. It's even stated somewhere in settings.

Working GCAM for Snapdragon w/ Telephoto!

UPDATE: I haven't really followed this thread since I don't have an S10 anymore, however, just a heads up telephoto now works with the Snapdragon S10/Note 10 series and Gcam! Gcam can be downloaded in my S20 thread here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/gcam-working-with-s20-ultra-telephoto.4200277/
Now with Wide Angle and Telephoto Camera Support!
All credits go to Arnova8G2, CStark, Fizwiz, Xenius9, Urnyx05
Benefits:
Gcam offers less aggressive noise reduction and oversharpening. Under daylight things might not look too different but it's a lot better for low light, especially for finer details like carpets, hair, fabric texture. I've attached some comparison shots. The file names will indicate which camera was used for the pictures.
Regarding 6.1 vs 6.2 vs 7.0 vs 7.2:
6.1 could be more stable and allows you to save profiles that you can swap between (for instance if you have a setting for indoor and outdoor). However 6.2 is faster, possibly better processing algorithms. 7.0 is faster still and even better algorithms. 7.0+ also ads astrophotography option which is night sight but even better! 7.2 works on Android 10 only and should improve upon 7.0.
GCAM 6.1.0.021 Base
Download Arnova's Advanced 1.7 here: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-arnova8G2/
then download the XML config attached to this post.
Instructions for applying the XML file can be found here: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/settings09/
What works:
- Aperture switching for main camera (settings > Samsung CameraAPI2 > toggle "Switch to 2.4f aperture)
- Motion photo (have to use google photos as gallery and only limited to 1080p resolution)
- Night Sight
- Portrait mode
- Wide angle camera (hold the toggle camera button to switch between wide and regular rear cameras, press to switch between rear camera and front camera)
GCAM 6.2.030 Base
Download Arnova's Advanced 2.2 here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=31714
Go to Settings > About > Enable Advanced Features
Settings > Enable AUX
Settings > HDR+ Control > Image Format > YUV_420_888
Quality HDR+ > Super High
Custom Libs > Eszdman v3 Beta
What works:
- Aperture switching for main camera (aperture icon at the bottom right)
- Motion photo
- Night Sight
- Portrait mode
- Wide angle camera (toggle button at the bottom left)
GCAM 7.0.009 Base
Download Xenius9's GCam_4.0.191101.0729build-7.0.009_x9_s9s_mod_0.43.apk here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/12qfHQ-oq4vrHCWFkNaP6lNHMoDB31SNy
To enable astrophotography, go to settings, developer settings and make sure nightsight.extended_tripod and nightsight.extended_iterable_burst is enabled.
What works:
- Aperture switching for main camera (aperture icon at the bottom right)
- Motion photo
- Night Sight (with Astrophotography)
- Portrait mode
GCAM 7.2.010 Base for Android 10
Download Urynx05's gcam mod here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81499445&postcount=1197
then download the XML config here: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/p/f/2020/01/s10_snap.xml
Instructions for applying the XML file can be found here: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/settings09/
What works:
- Aperture switching for main camera (aperture icon at the bottom right)
- Motion photo
- Night Sight (Astrophotography can be enabled but max shutter is only like 2 seconds, not enough for stars)
- Portrait mode
- Wide Angle Camera
More development info can be found in the original app page.

Thanks for this however how do I know if the XML file you posted is the one that's actually being used
I have downloaded this but nightsight doent work but the base camera does. Some of the other features crash the app. Im using s10+ snap.

Did you guys apply the XML file after copying it to where it needs to go? Detailed instructions here: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/settings09/
Followed the instructions and it seems to be working fine so far on my S10, although I haven't done extensive testing.
How do you switch between apertures? It doesn't seem obvious to me.
Any reason this wouldn't also work on a Snapdragon S10+? Thinking about giving it a try now...
---------- Post added at 11:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:42 AM ----------
Installed and verified basic functionality on my S10+. Took a couple of night sight pictures and they turned out good. Will do some more testing. Thanks for the information.
Update: I'm seeing issues when switching between different modes. For example, the picture freezes whenever I go into portrait mode. Other modes work sometimes, but display a black screen other times. The app doesn't freeze or crash, and if I switch to another mode then switch back, sometimes that resolves it.

To fix portrait mode freezing, go to Settings (top section, mod settings) -> Advanced -> FIX -> Viewfinder Format. Then select YUV-420_888 (default).
Very good. The viewfinder fix seems to have worked for portrait mode, and helped with all other modes as well.
Any other settings changes you would recommend making to optimize performance?
Which photo is from the stock cam vs gcam?
I took a few pics just now outside with default camera and then with Google night sight. Google cam pics definitely a little brighter, and much clearer, with more detail than the default cam. Quite pleased.
Got it to work thank you. Had to restart my phone, now everything works.
Snapdragon?
Yes i have the s10+ with snap

Night sight is phenomenal. To the point where I use it almost exclusively even in daylight on my Pixel 3. Can;t wait for S10 with gcam port.
How is the shutter delay using the gcam port on the S10? On LGs where I have used gcam, the ZSL would not work and that was the only downside.
When i took picture with night sight.my phone restart it sekf.
I envy you guys. I have got the exynos version and stock cam quality is ****. Miss my pixel 3.

I will check the shutter delay today when I have time. I've only used it for night shots as of now since that was the primary advantage it has over the samsung cam software. I know as of right now, this version doesn't support the wide angle lens, which means it's necessary to keep both sets of software. HOwever, I read in another thread (here or on reddit) that there is now a gcam version that works with JUST the wide angle lens. So hopefully they can combine these and give us a fully working port in the near future.
thanks i will try soon.
On the snap my stock cam sucks also. This google cam and open camera destroy it

Which is the best google camera(+version) for you?

I'm looking for the best quality camera, with details even when zooming taken photo.
The sensor is like Pixel 3 and that should not be a problem.
Thanks in advance.
MGC_6.1.021_XCAMBase_F1_v5a version gives me the best results. It produces clear photos, also in dark spots on a photo. Especially with the Hdr+ base config on: BSG config PixelplusNS HDR+ and rear cam on Pixel 1

Could you tell me what is difference between "BSG config PixelplusNS HDR+" and "Pixel2018 ZsIR Hdr+" ?
What base model do you use and what custom lib("xlib-mod v2" seems to me better than "default")?

This is the latest gcam by BSG: https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/MGC_6.2.030_RazerPhone2_V2.apk
Note that this is the base version of Gcam. Other developers like San1ty work on top of the BSG gcam. But I prefer the original one.
For settings, I turned OFF "save location" , "camera sound" , "google lens suggestion" , "enable google photo", "grid type".
I turned ON "remove af data from the screen".
On advanced setting page,
OFF: HDR+ control, RAW+JPEG control, Store videos efficiently.
ON: Show dirty lens warning.
Default AWB: Google
Quality HDR+: High
Saturation: Medium
Final JPG quality HDR+: 100%
Apply quality HDR+ to night sight: OFF
Disable zoom in portrait mode: OFF
Force close the app once after making the changes.

The Ultimate Guide To GCam

Hopefully.
Tested on: RR ROM (not GSI) from https://build.lolios.ml/sirius/
GCam version: Arnova's Advanced 1.5 Download
Config xml file: see attachments Alternative Download
Disclaimer
If you're not using my same setup I can't guarantee the same results, though I think this should apply, for the most part, no matter the ROM you're using. If you're using a GSI I think it should work the same as long as you have flashed the gcam fix zip (or Magisk module).
Introduction
I chose Arnova's mod because it's the most customizable out there. To get it working straight out of the box:
Install GCam
Create directory /sdcard/GCam/Configs if it doesn't exist
Move xml config file to the directory
Long press on the GCam icon and select "Take a video"
Double-tap on empty space below shutter
Choose the xml file from the menu and click restore
Step 4 is necessary because trying to lauch with the defaults options results in a crash, but not in video mode. We're using this as workaround to import the settings in order to fix the crash and configure the camera.
I'll now describe every setting that I chose to edit so that you can understand why I set it up the way it is. Most of these settings are based on personal preference so feel free to experiment for yourself.
Settings
Mod settings - Advanced - FIX - RAW10 in front
Enabled.
Fixes the camera crash on app launch.
Mod settings - Advanced - FIX - Buffer Fix
Enabled.
Fixes viewfinder lag. Doesn't fix it for Night Sight. Also, I remember this wasn't needed when using GSI + gcam fix zip so if you're using a GSI maybe try disabling this and see how it goes.
Autoexposure correction
1/10 sec.
This setting is very important. It controls the balance between noise and blurriness / time it takes to shoot a frame.
Basically, here's what this does. When you take a picture there are a few factors that influence how bright the picture will be. These factors are width of the objective, time the camera spends taking the picture (also known as shutter speed) and the sensor sensitivity (also known as ISO). Unlike regular cameras, the width of the objective is fixed (I believe) so on our phone we're limited to ISO and shutter speed. The longer the shutter speed, the more time the sensor is exposed to light, the brighter the picture. If you're not steady though, longer shutter speeds will result in blurry photos. Increasing ISO, on the other hand, will allow you to keep shutter speed low and have sharp images, but will significantly increase the amount of noise in the picture.
What this setting does is set a limit to how high the shutter speed can get before it will resort to increasing ISO if it needs to. The default settings of Off gave pretty bad results for me - picking 1/50 and 2000+ ISO where 1/10 and 300 ISO did perfectly fine - though feel free to experiment for yourself. Keep in mind the actual time to take the pic will be at most this setting times the HDR+ parameters setting. So if you have the default setting of 9 for HDR+ and 1/10 like I do it will take at most 0.9s to take a picture.
Correction NightSight
1 sec.
Same as Autoexposure Correction but for Night Sight mode. I set this to a very long time but it's totally personal preference so feel free to tweak this. As you may have guessed, I really dislike noisy pictures...
Pixel 3 AWB
Enabled.
See the GCam ports site relative FAQ.
I found it produces warmer colors. It also seems to only work if you use Pixel 3 or Pixel 3XL as models. Feel free to change.
Mod settings - Advanced - Base - Model
Pixel 3 for both cameras.
Tested other models and didn't find any difference except Pixel 3 AWB stopped working except for Pixel 3XL.
Mod settings - Advanced - Noise reduction
Everything disabled.
Trying enabling them but they didn't really seem to work so I left them off.
Mod settings - Advanced - FIX - Using Sabre
Auto.
Sabre FAQ. I left Auto because I have no clue what that's supposed to mean. Tried both On and Off and they worked but I couldn't spot a difference. It supposedly makes pictures better though, so set to On if you'd like.
Mod settings - Advanced - Libs
Stock by Google.
I just left the default because I tried the other ones and found no difference. Try them for yourself if you feel like it.
Mod settings - Advanced - Enable Auto exposure
Disabled.
This is weird one, most of the times it crashed the app right after shooting (didn't store the pics), other times it worked but I saw no difference. Don't think we're missing out on anything.
Photo - Advanced - "Motion" function
Disabled.
Enabling crashes the app, it might work with different models settings / configs (in Mod settings - Advanced - Base) but I didn't bother because I don't really care for it. If you somehow get it to work, please report back. Thanks!
Photo - Advanced - Optical Stabilization (OIS)
Disabled.
MI 8 SE doesn't have OIS. Not much to say.
Video - Advanced - Init SlowMo with
120 FPS.
Setting this to 120 FPS instead of the default 240 FPS allows to use both 1/4 and 1/8 speed for slow motion.
By the way, I believe that while most of this guide should also apply to GSIs, iirc slow-mo is broken on GSI and there's not much you can do about it. Sorry.
I hope to have cleared up the confusion about GCam, I surely was very confused when I first started looking into it and was quite overblown with all the settings.
Let me know if you know about anything that could be added to the guide.
Thank you!

True, it's a limitation of the default MIUI launcher. You can install a third party launcher temporarily and use that. To my knowledge there's no other way around it, unfortunately.
Thanks for this thread. There is something wrong about xml file. I am not able to download it via three different browsers. Could you please upload it anywhere else?

Glad to hear that! The reduced noise is just the result of the shutter speed setting, I'm still very doubtful about setting 1/10 as limit, sometimes I feel like it's way too long... Especially because it seems like once you've set it it becomes super aggressive in picking it instead of a more sensible combination like 300 ISO - 1/50 shutter speed.

Better quality photos are more important than waiting(shutter speed) in my opinion. Colors are sharp and contrast is higher than standart gcam. These settings give really good results. Sharp and clean photos :good:
The app crashes every time I take photos with hdr+ off. And in BSG v2e the shutter speed of hdr+ is so much faster than hdr+ enhanced which is useful if I want to take photos in crowded places

True, thanks for the report. I'll try and see if I can find a workaround. Shutter speed gets faster if you set Autoexposure correction to off, but ISO gets a lot higher as a result and produces very noisy pics.

Gcam for oppo find x2 lite

Hi everybody. I've tested many version of gcam for the find x2 lite and the only who work very well ( with HDR++ and night mode) is the last version of urnyx. Here https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v2.0.apk. i have changed the setting in the advanced parameters / library) shadows at 10 and hilights to 25. For the main camera i've changed sharpness to 1,25, noise reduc to 0,875 . Choose google white balance on the first menu and imx586 in parameters. Only main camera works. You can also use the opporeno2byFlo xml, in the list of configs. It's the same story. Flo7591

Gcam= more details, natural contrast and naturals colors (with good setting). Better HDR and exposition and night mode. Day and night. If gcam ports are so popular on so many smartphone , that is the reason. Maybe except for the premium and expensive phone ?
The apk works perfectly with the settings you suggested, thanks a lot!
I'am tryind this version, there a lot of setting that we can use:
https://1-dontsharethislink.celsoazevedo.com/file/filesc/GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v2.1_Wichaya_V3.0.apk
but i have only this problem with a GOOGLE AWB in Automatic mode;
the skin of the person, with Google AWB, in Automatic, turns me yellow / orange. If I activate the GOOGLE AWB it becomes too "Cold". I change the to Pixel3 in Imx586 but never change. Is there any settings I can change? thanks
Yellow Skin .... in Auto GOOGLE AWB.
If you AWB ON or HDR+ PLUS .....the skin it's similar to naturale.
Anyone have some ideas to set up in AUTO , correctly? tnx
Now, the best Gcam I've tried for Find X2 Lite is:
MGC_8.1.101_A9_PV0i_libs (BSG, 23/02/2021)
* I haven't tried the most recent version (27/02/21)
The AWB works fairly good, with hdr mode activated, essential to avoid noise
Also includes the ultra wide angle camera, which works correctly and improves the native camera
Unlike the native camera, the ultra-wide angle camera allows zooming
The front camera also improves a lot compared to the native
A trick: a double clicking anywhere on the screen goes from angular to 2x
With Android 11 the ultra wide angle camera doesn't work

GCam 7.2 for Android 10

Wanted to make a quick post about a version of GCam that I found that has both wide angle and slow motion working (seemed like in the past this was a big deal). The LibPatcher doesn't not appear to make any difference when changing the settings, and I know for sure that GeoLocation does NOT work on the phone with this mod.

I attached my config file to the settings that I'm using. The image quality seems to be maybe slightly worse than the stock camera in good lighting, however this beats stock in low lighting even with just HDR+ Enhanced (which is a nice balance between speed and quality for low light). There are some settings that can only be turned on/off by adding them to the viewfinder, such as focus tracking (it's currently on w/ config file). There are some other interesting bits I didn't look into that makes it like a pro mode but I made it such that the viewfinder is clear of all shortcuts as using them too much can actually lock up the camera "Camera is busy" error.
config file needs to be placed in /trCamera/XMLConfigs (should be made when opening app for first time)
Last note, if you don't have GApps or microG (which has literally never worked for me except for this); this is a nice stub substitute that adds just enough for the camera to launch w/o issues.
