PIE and bank sites - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Does anyone know how to view bank sites, I have tried neally everything from "ThunderHawk" which is the only one that works but you have to pay yearly subsciption. It just seems stupid that we pay so much for a ppc phone and we get such basic programs, eg: word, PIE. The processors in a PPC now are bigger than an older laptop that can run anything you want currently on the market neally so what the F##K is Microsoft doing. They bring out PPC 2003 and sure it runs faster but it has PIE on it that you can't even do everday banking on.
Any one know of a tweak or program that will allow me to access NetBank Australia. :?:

Try Netfront
It works for me........

There's also a registry tweak which I can't remember right now. That will fool the pocket explorer into reporting it's a different version when connecting to a web site which would probably allow you to view the bank site.

If I remember correctly, the error message you get says you need a newer version of PIE. There is a freeware program called RegKing that includes a simple menu of registry tweaks, one of which fools websites into thinking PIE is version 5, which should be high enough to get on their sites.
Here's a link:
http://www.doctorce.com/
RegKing is the brainchild of Chris De Herrera and Terence "Dr. CE" Goggin.

Still no luck with PIE
I can log into NETBANKS website and enter my ID and password and then it goes onto the site OK but when I am on the site I can't click on anything, eg. To "transfer Money", "exit NetBank" or click on the account number to view transactions.
When I click on anything I get a popup that reads "Microsoft JScript runtime error. Line: 126 Character: 2 Error: Wrong number of arguments or invalid property assignment."
Any help ME. :?:

I have tried the tweak to internet Explorer 5.0, didn't make any difference, I have tried ToggleIE, doesn't work either.

Natwest
I to do internet banking at home, or on the works pc...
Like many of you others out there I look forward to this flaw and many others being fixed on the pocket pc. ANy help developers?
It looks like this is something more than a quick fix...

Why dont you complain to your bank.
It all depend on whether the particular bank even bother to cater for handhelds.
Ive found wm2003 able to access more sites including bank sites.

Come on now, complain to the bank, how many thousand customers and I ring up and say I want to use NetBank with my PPC and I expect them to redo there million dollar web site, don't think so...... But I will take your advise and try.
What I am getting at is there is a way to do it as "ThunderHawk" software works, so there is software that can go on the PPC that will work with bank sites, they have made a browser that is nearlly or if not the same as internet explorer on your computer. But they are to expensive and an on going cost. There are programs like NETFRONT 3.0 which have so much more than PIE but still have not gone all the way, why bother if you are going to stop short. Why can't microsoft just make a proper PIE, as I said before, its not as if theres not enough hardrive space or processor speed. Why half hearted products. This is the main problem with PPC, the gap between a PPC and a normal computer is to big. I wanted to print invoices out on the job, so I copied my invoice from word in my computer to the PPC and wala, Its now F##ked it looks nothing like the PC one and its so hard to edit the margins on PPC. I should really stop going on, its Microsoft what more could I expect........

XDAII Blackberry desktop software? Anybody have it?

Hi,
I'm trying to get the Blackberry software working with my Blue Angel. I've got the right (O2 WWE) version of the handheld software, but it appears that I still need the desktop software for most configuration.
Can somebody please either post it, or post a link to where it can be downloaded?
Thanks in advance!
Found it... but still can't make it work...
There doesn't seem to be any way (at least thru the UI) to change any of t the settings and redirect to a different service provider...
I really hope I'm not stuck until Cingular gets its act together...
I guess we'll have to wait and see
cingular has given you a SEVEN client therefore I doubt that there will be blackberry software for the SX66 unless RIM releases PPC software that they sell. the SEVEN client has NOT worked for me (dont know why, but I continue to experiment). Since Cingular has pulled the SX66 from the shelves, and they dont seem to have another PPC phone out there on the market, I doubt we will be seeing blackberry licensed software from them.
I've got the SEVEN software working...
... but it sucks.
Unless your company buys the separate corporate ("blackberry-wannabe") service, you are forced to have the client software running on a desktop PC (either behind the firewall or with VPN) or pursue a "connection sharing" approach with somebody whose PC is behind the firewall.
For someone like me, who is the only user of this device / service at my company (everybody else has blackberries), I'm screwed the second I shut my laptop down.
Other things I hate about the SEVEN software:
- You are limited to a maximum of 3 days of mail history and only 75 mail messages. As I receive typically 100+ emails a day at work, I never have everything I need with me
- Calendar Sync is a JOKE. SEVEN runs a completely separate calendar program (doesn't sync with your ActiveSync calendar). I see absolutely no reason why I should have to look at two different calendars to keep my schedule straight on my PPC. Just plain dumb approach
I would be HAPPY TO PAY FOR THE BLACKBERRY SOFTWARE... Just wish they'd give us users a freakin' chance!
< End Rant >
Hopefully someone will come out with software, either blackberry (legal) or cracked (illegal?). I tried seven, not very useful to me, I deleted it from my PDA - just took up space.
Try:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/BlueAn...PocketPC_TMO_Austria_Germany_Load_Working.cab
It's in German but it loads and works. I believe you need your PIN/IMEI registered in RIM's Network.

I get access denied message when trying above link?
sorry forgot the login info:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_TMO_Austria_Germany_Load_Working.cab
If you are *not* registered for the service via your ISP with Blackberry, even if you get it working you will be kicked. They check for IMEIs & PINs that do not correspond with registered (with them) devices & periodically (1x per month) drop those that aren't...

iMate JasJam ExtRom 1.31.305.107 (Telstra)

New ExtROM for Telstra iMate. Has the new video viewer so you can watch Foxtel etc. Probably some other bits and pieces that I haven't had time to take a look at.
http://www.box.net/shared/xu8t6650u8
Haven't tried it with any of WM6 flavours.

Excellent work. Just loaded Black 2.0 and didn't really want to load the new rom I just downloaded from iMate website. Time to install some cabs and have a play with the Foxtel channels.
Dev
You mean the one that was released weeks ago and discussed here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299597&highlight=telstra+rom
yeah it was discussed and released, but nobody extracted or posted the extended rom.
I asked for it, but nobody did it. This is great, got the files.... now....
i noticed a lot of new stuff.... lots of cabs that are not normally there. does anybody know what they do!!! i would like to get some of the new features, i know instinctively what a lot of them do, but i really dont have any clear guidelines or indication for the following as to whether they will add value, or clutter....

These are the two I want
videoplayer_No_Unistall
Telstra v5.2
Just wondering if I need any of the first few, at all to get the next two.
I know some gurus can extract and see in side what they do, i dont have these facilities, skills or knowledge, so if there are people who can, would you mind... i can post the cabs individually back if you wish.

I believe the player is to fix a streaming video problem that existed in that the default player did not work with the format that Foxtel is streamed using.
Not sure about the Telstra 5.2 bit. I'm not smart enought to deconstruct these things...
EDIT: Oh never mind... I just realised what the question was... It's too early in the morning to be reading and posting

the Videoplayer_no_Uninstall is for Foxtel
Telstra v5.2 is for setting up dataconnections and stuff... but this checks your IMEI before it starts...and if its not an IMATE it will not load...
Ok, i seem to have found a little bit...
NITZ is network identification and time zone disabling facility, so dont install...
MyPlace appears to be some sort of shopping or internet web facility link/app probably just to encourage us to buy more...
WaveDev is supposed to add base boost to the device for tcpmp and the like, so probably worth installing
RTSP is real time streaming protocol, so probably needed for the foxtel installation
PP Version might be to do with the java midlet, not sure yet.
MWizard cant find anything on at all yet.
3818_07 and AUS_HR and prefRat_2 still looking....
Installed MyPlace cab which has a few good web shortcuts. Also installed the Videoplayer_no_Uninstall is for Foxtel, but it comes up with an error when I start the app."PVPlayer cannot be opened. Not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its componets cannot be found".
So I think it may need another one of the CAB's installed to get it working.
ANyone else had a play with this yet?
Cheers,
Dev
RTSP didn't help, still got the error.
I'll try another cab.
i have extracted and got all the cabs. i havent tried the foxtel, though that is the one that i want.
there is a subscription fee.
also an imei check is required, if you dont have imate, it wont install apparently. mine is imate jasjam, so hopefully it will work.
Okidoki
Getting a bit of research going, and testing.
FIRSTLY. IF YOU HAVE WM6 DO NOT INSTALL PV PLAYER OR RTSC.
You dont need it. Media Streaming works for Foxtel services. The reason PV Player is available is due to WM5 and the shortfall of the OS. WM6 uses media streaming and it works, so we dont need that.
The new telstra cab file is beneficial. It installs the correct settings for MMS and internet, sets the WAP facility and i also find i get better phone connection, might be an appearance, see later.
The proxy manager that is installed should be used with My Places, to force the system through the WAP and thus receive the concessional access charges of My Places. Also, My Places being WAP based, is very text limted, and download size limited compared to most, so the cost of access is much cheaper.
However, I suspect leaving the proxy on is going to interfere with push email, and general browsing. So its a matter of turning the proxy on before connecting to the internet (and WIFI is not available when proxy on), so that you can connect to the internet My Places and their rosey garden of chosen content.
However it is possible to access foxtel via the normal internet settings, but suspect if you do that you are going to get or incur premium data charges.
So in summary the ones i wanted i dont want, and the ones i didnt want or need, i installed. Not all though, if I couldnt see a reason for them, skipped them.
Still awaiting some feedback or input in what most of them were about, but if you are on telstra, then some of the items in that extended rom are worth while.
If somebody after this does want to know what i installed, and the effects (if known!), PM me. Its going to be a bit of trial and error over time, so better to PM rather than me keep posting back....
Also, might be beneficial for somebody to consider looking at some of the other files like the mms and other cab files, to see if they are newer, better, or more efficient than the standard device settings.
Personally, i aint gonna bother unless i find a need, i am sure anything in wm6 is going to be better than what imate are releasing.... (thanks to jasjamming and his premium wm 6 OS.... )
Thanks for the info simon. It is appreciated.
Is any of this required in WM6? Is it possible to just get the ExtRom by itself? I upgradded to the latest ROM from iMate/Telstra, but i want to upgrade to WM6 too...
just download ext rom review as reqd but install telstra cab and my places cab if u want foxtel. there are 3 others installed and didnt appear tause harm but cant see what they did or the benfits.
somebody needs to open the cabs and let us know wot they do.
i also installed the 3518 odd ball one, the one with AUS in it and pref-rat as its name imples prwference rates but dont really know wot these 3 did... but again caused no apparent harm.
Have installed those two cabs but cant get Foxtel to work.
I go to my place and click on the Foxtel icon, and I get the following error "Page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost". I do have a data connection as my push mail & web browsing works perfectly. I'll have to try other cabs as when I click on Bigpond music icon on My Place, it comes up and says Non Telstra, so there is obviously something missing.
Any ideas anyone?
Dev
Do you have the telstra proxy turned on?
you should b able to access wap on my places without proxy. proxy reqd for most things though including foxtel.
can u browse the internet? is connection set to internet or work?
if that fails disconnect from internet and use the telstra proxy and view the rese coloured telstra garden...
No, I didnt have proxy enabled. Just turned it on and it doesnt make any difference as I still get the same error message. When I click on the Foxtel icon, it want to connect to Telstra.internet, not Telstra.Wap. Both my WAP & Internet connections are working perfectly.
I'm stumped!
Dev
Yea - I cant get fox or AFL vids to function either. Can browse to the wap sites, etc, and click on the TV stuff, it loads up the Windows Media player, says 'Failed to connect', then closes.
Im working with WM6 Black 2.0, with just the Telstra 5.2 cab and My places cab installed. Proxy was set to 'On' for my testing.
Would like to know if I need any other cabs from the Ext rom to get it to work.
i am having difficulties. still testing. but... in media streaming ... need to set the connections settings as to which to use may be secure wap or simply wap. not sure which yet.
i had the test working ok... cant get live to work yet. need to fiddle and ensure doesnt exceed downloads while testing...

Windows Mobile Security?

I'm looking for some screen locking and encryption software for Windows Mobile 6 (or 6.1).
I'm looking for software that will lock the screen and buttons when the PDA is turned on, and require a password, either PIN or button entry.
I would also especially like a poison pill where the system would hard reset after a number of password failures, or failing that, at the very least it would autodelete the internal memory and PIM data. It would also be great if such a program had an OEM install for adding to one of DCDs ROMs, but that's more wishful thinking than an actual requirment.
I would be willing to pay for this software, but freeware is my first choice for obvious reasons.
Thanks to anyone who can help out.
Currently running Telus P4000 (aka Titan) with DCD 2.3.2, but willing to reflash to get the security software runing if necessary.

I don't know about a program will hard reset the phone on failure to authenticate, that is a hard one. But your phone should already have a security feature were you can add a pin to lock your phone or add a longer password.
Every time you boot up it will prompt you for a password.
built in security
The built in security can be bypassed by connecting to activesync, which is one of the reasons I want to replace it.

How can you bypass it through active sync?
I mean when I set the password and connected through active sync, it wouldn't sync or read unless i typed in the pin on my phone. It prompted me first and if i was unsuccessfull it would kick me off and not let active sync work.
PIN entry on PC
It's also possible to enter the PIN from the PC side (at least with WMDC on vista), which means it's easy to brute force the PIN.
There are programs that can do this, matter of fact, there are security programs out there that can remotley flash your phone should it ever get stolen or lost. Normally they are set up that you send a certain text mesage to your phone and it wipes itself clean. I just did a google search and found this: mSecure PDA
Features:
Function
Enforces security policies Windows Mobile, Palm OS and Symbian devices
Broad platform support including Windows Mobile, Palm OS
Reliable and automatic data protection, without downgrading the user experience
Protection on device or removable media using centrally-controlled, policy-based security
Remote data destruction if device is lost, stolen or subject to misuse

The price is ok, if I only had to buy it once that is. It seems like most of the software that does this is enterprise only.
There's another one called SafeGuard PDA but they discontinued the single user version before they got to WM6 compatability (and the WM5 version absolutely kills a WM6 device).
WM5
For anyone running WM5 who's looking at this thread someday, PocketSecure is a great program that does pretty much everything I was looking for but sadly isn't compatible with WM6 (or at least, the version I'm using anyway).
And I thought the cold war was over.
It seems if you guys want to get some James Bond gadgetry on your phones.
I understand this because we keep highly value data in our phones, but even if we do lose our phone they are is always a way to crack any locking mechanism or security measure if they have physical access to your device.
I mean if the other person is smart enough to do so.
True enough
I'm not planning on keeping national secrets on my PDA, it's just that I would like to keep some phone numbers on there that I don't want someone stumbeling upon if I'm draft enough to lose my phone or someone is quick enough to lift it.
The annoying thing is that there's a lot of decent software like this for Palm platforms. (TealLock, etc).

All security measures should start at the physical level. By not allowing others to steal our phones or lose them, but if you feel that you need software to secure your phone in any way check out.

Sorry mate, I'm not sure if I'm just missing something there or if I didn't what I'm looking for properly...
I've looked through the handango store and while it's got plenty of good software for encrypting a file (word doc etc) and plenty of good stuff for storing extra data like passwords and credit card info, all I really want is something that will lock the PDA and the built in PIM (contacts mainly) inforamation.
I'm *not* looking for a way to encrypt my storage card or individual files in main memory (and I've already got a password managent program that encypts that data and syncs it with my laptop).
P.S. It's not like I don't plan on keeping my phone secure, but the idea is that good security STARTS with physical security, it doesn't end there.

Hmm I have looked for some apps that describe your needs and found some, but they are for WM5 ...... you can try it out and see if it works. As some cabs from WM5 still work..
Well here is another website that might help out..

Other then that I would recommend using google to search for your needs due to the fact that not many people here post about this.
http://www.truecrypt.org the windows version can install a program to mount a truecrypt encoded card on your PPC, but so far I dont think it can encrypt on it.

Bloomberg application for Windows Mobile

According to many news sites from the summer (like these : http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2008/jun08/06-10BloombergMobilePR.mspx and http://visualstudiomagazine.com/news/article.aspx?editorialsid=9987), there is apparently a Bloomberg application for windows mobile similar to the iphone app. Yet, I cannot find any place to download this. Does anyone have any information on this?
Seems to be more or less an Asian thing, neverless here the MSN Search results: http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=Bloomberg+"Windows+Mobile"+download&src=IE-SearchBox
still cannot find a download site with that search from msn.com
http://bbmobile.bloomberg.com/winmo.html
yeah ...check out guys with above link ..its 472kb only cab file
Looks like you might need a Bloomberg Professional Account in order to use the Mobile Application.
I installed the .cab file on my phone, (then registered on bloomberg via the normal bloomberg website using my pc), but cannot login via the app on my mobile. It does not recognize my login name and I cannot register via the mobile...Any ideas???
Winmo is losing out big time.

Indeed, there is a bloomberg app for winmo, but it is not free. the site to download is http://bbmobile.bloomberg.com/winmo.html , but you got to register to use it. The normal account you registered cannot be use on the bloomberg winmo app. To use it, you need to call up to bloomberg and sign up a "bloomberg anywhere" account. I did call up for the same issue. to sign up, it will cost thousand per month, while iphone is giving it for free. Even Big Players such as Yahoo and Autodesk went over to iPhone.
Now u see the reason for iphone wave. If this continue, iPhone will monopolise the smart phone market. Some ppl like me, thought that Blackstone is a potential iPhone killer. After get the blankstone, I will say blankstone is good, BUT it is nowhere close to what iPhone have to offer. Some even think that Palm Pre could be the next iPhone killer. But after the review, I think not.
My next phone set could be iPhone. Hope Winmo will catch up by then. Good Luck to Winmo user like me. Major thing i still using Blackstone, is GPS and bluetooth. If iPhone can resolve these issue somehow, I dun think any of the other phones can stand before iPhone any more.
Its here! the non-pro version like for the iphone.
Been looking awhile for this, wonder why they are so quiet about it..

[UTIL][SYNC TOOL]MobSync Vers 2.0.3[SHARWARE]

I was searching around for a sync tool that would simply allow me to synchronise my camera and video files from my HTC Leo. I found this shareware application which does this and much more.
Synchronise any folder from or to your PC and WM device using your Activesync Connection.
Despite being Japanese in origin, the interface is in simple english and extremely easy to use.
Many of you may already be aware of this, but I thought it merited a dedicated thread.
The authors website and download links can be found here..MobiSync Website.
Registration after a 30 day trial costs $8, so great value.
Thread moved to Dev&Hacking - Apps&Games.
it's not freeware it is shareware
MobSync is a software allowing any file folder synchronization from the PocketPC onto the desktop--synchronization which cannot be done with ActiveSync(or Vista).
Supported ActiveSync4.5. or Vista
Trial time is 30 days. There is no function limitation.
Another solution is goodsync http://www.goodsync.com/ which can sync mot just mibole device but also sync sftp, ftp webdrive etc...... Not a freeware
Correction
I apologise, first post corrected.
Registration
I have now registered MobSync and the license cost $8, so it is great value.
I have been using this for a while and it is a great sync app. If you want a freeware version then you can try v0.94. However I found this didn't have the great functionality that I needed so bought v2.0.3. For a few £'s you can't go wrong - I know my documents are always up to date on my TP2, and if I change them, will update back on my PC.

Can you tell us exactly what functionality is lacking in the freeware version 0.94? You write "it didn't have the great functionality of v 2.0.3" (which is shareware).
I (and probably other readers) would liek to know--exactly what is that "great functionality" that is in 2.03, but lacking in 0.94?
Both will sync your files, correct?
I know with the pay version you can specify multiple folders and also filters for which files you want to sync. Also you can specify how to sync (copy new files, exact copy, keep same as...) this is all the functionality I use, and I know at least some of that was missing on the free version. It's been a long time since I used the free version, and it would be better you install it and see if it does everything you want. If not, give the shareware version a go, I think you can trial it.
