XDAII Blackberry desktop software? Anybody have it? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hi,
I'm trying to get the Blackberry software working with my Blue Angel. I've got the right (O2 WWE) version of the handheld software, but it appears that I still need the desktop software for most configuration.
Can somebody please either post it, or post a link to where it can be downloaded?
Thanks in advance!

Found it... but still can't make it work...
There doesn't seem to be any way (at least thru the UI) to change any of t the settings and redirect to a different service provider...
I really hope I'm not stuck until Cingular gets its act together...
I guess we'll have to wait and see

cingular has given you a SEVEN client therefore I doubt that there will be blackberry software for the SX66 unless RIM releases PPC software that they sell. the SEVEN client has NOT worked for me (dont know why, but I continue to experiment). Since Cingular has pulled the SX66 from the shelves, and they dont seem to have another PPC phone out there on the market, I doubt we will be seeing blackberry licensed software from them.

I've got the SEVEN software working...
... but it sucks.
Unless your company buys the separate corporate ("blackberry-wannabe") service, you are forced to have the client software running on a desktop PC (either behind the firewall or with VPN) or pursue a "connection sharing" approach with somebody whose PC is behind the firewall.
For someone like me, who is the only user of this device / service at my company (everybody else has blackberries), I'm screwed the second I shut my laptop down.
Other things I hate about the SEVEN software:
- You are limited to a maximum of 3 days of mail history and only 75 mail messages. As I receive typically 100+ emails a day at work, I never have everything I need with me
- Calendar Sync is a JOKE. SEVEN runs a completely separate calendar program (doesn't sync with your ActiveSync calendar). I see absolutely no reason why I should have to look at two different calendars to keep my schedule straight on my PPC. Just plain dumb approach
I would be HAPPY TO PAY FOR THE BLACKBERRY SOFTWARE... Just wish they'd give us users a freakin' chance!
< End Rant >

Hopefully someone will come out with software, either blackberry (legal) or cracked (illegal?). I tried seven, not very useful to me, I deleted it from my PDA - just took up space.

Try:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/BlueAn...PocketPC_TMO_Austria_Germany_Load_Working.cab
It's in German but it loads and works. I believe you need your PIN/IMEI registered in RIM's Network.

I get access denied message when trying above link?

sorry forgot the login info:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_TMO_Austria_Germany_Load_Working.cab

If you are *not* registered for the service via your ISP with Blackberry, even if you get it working you will be kicked. They check for IMEIs & PINs that do not correspond with registered (with them) devices & periodically (1x per month) drop those that aren't...

"If" your company has a BES server, then properly configured XDA BB will work properly
Not as good as an actual BB but instant emails is nirvana

PIE and bank sites

Does anyone know how to view bank sites, I have tried neally everything from "ThunderHawk" which is the only one that works but you have to pay yearly subsciption. It just seems stupid that we pay so much for a ppc phone and we get such basic programs, eg: word, PIE. The processors in a PPC now are bigger than an older laptop that can run anything you want currently on the market neally so what the F##K is Microsoft doing. They bring out PPC 2003 and sure it runs faster but it has PIE on it that you can't even do everday banking on.
Any one know of a tweak or program that will allow me to access NetBank Australia. :?:
Try Netfront
It works for me........
There's also a registry tweak which I can't remember right now. That will fool the pocket explorer into reporting it's a different version when connecting to a web site which would probably allow you to view the bank site.
If I remember correctly, the error message you get says you need a newer version of PIE. There is a freeware program called RegKing that includes a simple menu of registry tweaks, one of which fools websites into thinking PIE is version 5, which should be high enough to get on their sites.
Here's a link:
http://www.doctorce.com/
RegKing is the brainchild of Chris De Herrera and Terence "Dr. CE" Goggin.
Still no luck with PIE
I can log into NETBANKS website and enter my ID and password and then it goes onto the site OK but when I am on the site I can't click on anything, eg. To "transfer Money", "exit NetBank" or click on the account number to view transactions.
When I click on anything I get a popup that reads "Microsoft JScript runtime error. Line: 126 Character: 2 Error: Wrong number of arguments or invalid property assignment."
Any help ME. :?:
I have tried the tweak to internet Explorer 5.0, didn't make any difference, I have tried ToggleIE, doesn't work either.
Natwest
I to do internet banking at home, or on the works pc...
Like many of you others out there I look forward to this flaw and many others being fixed on the pocket pc. ANy help developers?
It looks like this is something more than a quick fix...
Why dont you complain to your bank.
It all depend on whether the particular bank even bother to cater for handhelds.
Ive found wm2003 able to access more sites including bank sites.
Come on now, complain to the bank, how many thousand customers and I ring up and say I want to use NetBank with my PPC and I expect them to redo there million dollar web site, don't think so...... But I will take your advise and try.
What I am getting at is there is a way to do it as "ThunderHawk" software works, so there is software that can go on the PPC that will work with bank sites, they have made a browser that is nearlly or if not the same as internet explorer on your computer. But they are to expensive and an on going cost. There are programs like NETFRONT 3.0 which have so much more than PIE but still have not gone all the way, why bother if you are going to stop short. Why can't microsoft just make a proper PIE, as I said before, its not as if theres not enough hardrive space or processor speed. Why half hearted products. This is the main problem with PPC, the gap between a PPC and a normal computer is to big. I wanted to print invoices out on the job, so I copied my invoice from word in my computer to the PPC and wala, Its now F##ked it looks nothing like the PC one and its so hard to edit the margins on PPC. I should really stop going on, its Microsoft what more could I expect........

Live Mesh

Live Mesh is now available for Windows Mobile - cab is here: http://m.mesh.com/install/wm6/LiveMesh.cab
Also, Mesh has progressed from a Community Technology Preview limited Beta to a public Beta.
I've been using Mesh for a while and personally I really like it. I was very much looking forward to having it on my phone (Athena x7510 with 16 GB storage).
And here's the problem: despite installing and connecting OK, I keep getting an error message saying my phone couldn't be added to my Live Mesh.
Anybody else have a similar experience?
I have tried on my Diamond and get the same error message......oh well!
Cheers
Aidan
I found this thread, which discusses exactly what we're experiencing (just love the way they say this happens "in rare occurances" after a string of people reported the same error!):
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/...d/c7ce844c-a4e3-4be4-838d-1ebdca5986e7#page:1
Got it working now. This is what I did:
It would fail on adding my phone to Live Mesh when connected via the phone itself, so I plugged it into my PC and it went past the "adding phone idetifier" part.
It then failed with an error stating that only a limited number of users are allowed. I tried a few times but couldn't get past this point.
On the site they state it is currently limited to residents of the US or the UK - being a UK resident I didn't see why it'd fail. Still, clicking on the UK link each time would give me an error message, with the URL including IneligbleUser. Just to see if it would make a difference, I clicked on the US link and it went through without error.
Next I tried Mesh again on my phone, but without being plugged into my PC and it went through.
Seems to be working now, and I quite like the idea of photos auto-syncing between my handset and PC!
I think we can build a few interesting apps using Live Mesh as a foundation.

Thanks for the tip. However, I can't get to work...what link are you talking about? I don't see a US or UK link anywhere.... And yes, I am in the US.
Go to one of these on your desktop and then access http://m.mesh.com from your mobile.
US link: https://www.mesh.com/Web/Promo.aspx?pcode=Mob_FCFS1
UK link: https://www.mesh.com/Web/Promo.aspx?pcode=Mob_FCFS12
Thanks,
Got is installed. Not quite sure how I get it to start syncing up tho. Doesn't seem that the interface is very intuitive...
I presume I should be able to do folder syncronisation some how? Anything else?
Cheers
Aidan
Thanks, man.
I'd signed up for the beta of Live Mesh a while back, but never really did anything with it. This will make it a much more useful service, at least for me.
On my diamond after I managed to sign up, I have not been able to actually get it to do anything. I get a white screen then it bombs out.
The issue is on the mesh forums with no update as yet....
Cheers
Aidan
I've set Mesh on my Athena to sync the folder where photos taken are saved, and I've set the sync options to auto-sync on local changes.
It synced fine while connected via USB, but a mobile sync seems problematic.
Hope it is sorted soon, because I like the idea of auto-syncing photos. Also, it means I can raise a provisional invoice for clients and have the data synced with my office systems.
OK, got it working! I have to say I love this! Its like having a roaming profile wherever I go. I really couldn't be happier. MS finally did something right. If this is a hint as to how awesome WM7 is going to be... I can't even imagine. I'm all for new UI, but I really want better usability and more functionality.
I think the people must be carefully about that, now it's just a beta test, but later will require the payment of charges...!!!
Microsoft Bulgaria said there are no plans to make Live Mesh a subscription service

hi
any way to reach files in live mesh via stock rom?

[Q] dead exchange mail

up to now I used 'https://mail.domain.com' for outlook exchange mail but last week due to upgrades OWA access has been changed to 'https://mail.domain.com:12345/'. Surprisingly, when I tried to modify this on my HD2, the phone just ignores ':12345' so I cannot access mail. Can't find a solution. Anybody out there had the same problem and solved it? thanks.
Get them to change it back to 443
I can't guarantee it will work but you can make the change stick by editing the registry directly. Search your registry for mail.domain.com and add the port number there. I know it saves the data and it shows up in my Outlook Mail settings. I know it stops my mail from synching. I am not, however, going to change the port number on my exchange server to see it it will actually synch...
tks guys
cant do that xaccers.
AA, what you say sounds good. Whereabouts could that registry be? Im not so used to messing up with registries. Any info will help
Just search the registry for your mail.domain.com, it's the only entry.
just did it and now the number sticks but still wont work. I t just says 'connecting..' but does not. same as before
That's interesting. It sees the change and tries to use it but is unable to parse the difference.
For those not understanding the issue the ":12345" after the https://mail.mydomain.com is changing the port that the https protocol uses from the usual 443 to 12345. Normally, his HD2 requests service from the 443 port on his Exchange server and it works fine. His admin has changed the service port on the Exchange server to 12345 probably as a means of "hiding" his server, (security by anonymity isn't very good security btw). The unfortunate thing is the his HD2 is unaware of the ability to specify a different port in a URL so it attempts to create a connection to the literal URL instead of changing the service port in the request itself. DOH!
Sorry to tell you this mate, but it's a known issue that you can't change the port number that is used by exchange services in windows mobile. I'm guessing that you have web access with the owa.website so you're stuck with using that.
just made my day. sad to hear that.
have been searching for days now and could not find the answer, so that's it.
not even htc hotline nor my administrator, who told me that before changing the owa access they had tested with iphones and other with android and working perfectly. so now I have a brand new hd2 and have to access my mail via owa which I guess you will agree with me that is a bit messy/slow. nobody has heard of any update by changing rom or else??

I've actually got the latest official ROM on my phone and there's still no extra settings anywhere that allow you to specify a port.
thanks John and have you heard anything abt the possibility of android on this phone?

The beauty of Android is that you can dump the system apps (such as the default email app) and just download a new one from the market.
The email app that I use is the one that was supplied with HTC Sense, and that doesn't seem to have anywhere to enter a port number, but it may work with the port number specified in the server URL - I don't know.
Do some reading up and see if you can find an Android email app that allows you to use a custom port. All I can say for sure is that the one I've got on mine is at least as capable as the standard email app on WM.

Techie Questions

Hi guys,
Just got my Mozart yesterday and trying to get it to work with my work network.
Questions as follows:
A)- Anyone managed to configure and gain access to their own private APN? - I've entered the settings into mobile network options but it doesn't see it.
B)- How is one supposed to go about installing security certificates (for the likes of exchange)?
thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Just been on the phone to orange
Answer to A is that these devices will only connect using CHAP authentication (instead of the PAP standard the previous WM devices used to connect with!) - Fed this back to orange as an issue.
Just need to sort out the certificates problem now!
Get yourself a 3rd party certificate from GoDaddy. only £50 for a multiple site licence for a year! Then you won't need to install your locally signed certificate
thanks for the input mate.
Orange recommended emailing the certificates to myself (The test hotmail Live account) - gunna try that first once I sort all the proxy crap out lol
B) emailing worked for me, I actually followed the instruction in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8929240&postcount=4
Yep. E-mail certificate, install. Make sure you reboot phone.
yeah that worked for me 2 - thanks guys.
I emailed the certificates to the hotmail live account and just installed them from there. Exchange then sync'd up fine.
i can't believe though that microsoft have launched WP7 without MS Office Communicator! - I tried to download it but can't find it in the app store....
Just makes me wonder how the heck we are going to deploy these devices with all these limitations.... i.e. No PAP support, no communicator, no business applications (without market place!) - means for businesses the HD2 and Touch Pro2 devices are still more suited.
I hope Microsoft don't make too many concessions for the consumer market leaving all us business users behind....heres looking forward to Chassis 2 development starting, and a decent device management solution....

First Impressions / How to make WP7 Perfect (perhaps)

I hope no-one minds but I got my Mozart yesterday and the only link that seems to talk about what is good and bad about it (here) hasn't had a new entry since November.
I also reckon that the Microsoft Developers know that xda-developers is the only place to go for sensible smartphone discussions and hopefully they will read this and make some changes.
I wasn't convinced that the Mozart would be better than my HD2 but actually....
Good:
Great Screen Resolution
Fast
Internet Explorer is better than I expected and the Pinch to Zoom is great
I like the start screen and the way the 3G signal gets out of the way
Bad:
No Comm Manager - switching on WiFi, Bluetooth, Flight Mode is a real pain
No Internet Sharing - AARRRRGGGHH!
Can't find my WiFi with hidden ESSID - GGGRRRRR!
No MyPhone Sync
I'm not sure I'm keen on the lock-down on apps - it's probably the only thing that will force me to Open Source Android.
I used gyrator2 to switch the screen off when I turned the HD2 vertically down - it saved on battery.
Thank goodness MS don't seem to have made WP7 into a steppingstone to a proper OS (like vista was to Win7!). The way I'm using it, it's the almost finished.
I'm hoping that someone will come up with a Comm Manager App. But I don't know about the other stuff.
Has anyone else got anything to add? What would make WP7 work better for you?
PS Please move this if it's duplicated elsewhere.
Thanks for the heads-up, just brought a Mozart today expecting delivery on Tuesday, I've come from the Android phones Galaxy S & X10 Mini, will be interesting to see how this shapes up against them.
anoyances
i also bought one and generally i think they realy solved the job doing a MS based phone that works. (i moved from a diamond2 with os6.5)
but what realy makes me angry is that i read in the commcersials and specs that i could use mp3 for ringtones (wich phones cant today anyway). but even if being a trivial requerent i would not go with out it.
now i realize that i can use mp3 - BUT ONLY IF I BUY IT FROM ZUNE WTF!!!!!
are they trying out the apple business plan?
im aware that i can "jail break" (where did i last hear about this.. og iPhone/apple) .. but i risk brick´ing my phone and thats a bummer.
still realy nice phone.
a file handler would be nice though and some grouping functionality. the start screeen cannot collect all your messaging and mail in a single icon for access. you have to add evry single one of them in the shortcut list for ease of access.. thats anoying if you have 4 mail and text messaging like me.. grouping would rock..
another thing is "People" its a looker if you want to see contratct and facebook updates, byt anoying for phone contact list
and whats it with the contact list? you cannot sync with outlook only exchange serveres. otherwise you have to expose your full contact list on windows live or facebook to get it synced to your phone.
now i believe i should be paid for using my phone then.. they get to know me and all of my friends including phone info, full name, job detaisl address etc etc. thats something that valueable.. and i dont get to choose if i want to take part.. i want money Zune/HTC and Microsoft!
im semi pleased .. nice phone but realy creapy business methods
A week later....an update
I can see what you're saying js0937.
I'm not really into changing the ringtone but I did notice that you couldn't do it. I can't believe that it has to come from Zune - it does make Android seem very attractive!
I've coped with the Outlook / Live syncing by having a separate account for my contacts but it is a bit long-winded.
I'm waiting for the update (due in Jan 2011 but when??? we're already two-thirds through!) to see whether these problems get solved.
Given that I worked with winphone 6.5 for so long, winphone7 is still much, much better but I still want Internet Sharing and a Comm Manager

Update whill be soon (7 feb.?)
h..p://microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/features/update-info.aspx
Hoping the update sorts the voice dialing out as its rubbish compaired to 6.5. This is a big step back. Be nice to get more info of what the update will bring. Roll on the 7th, fingers crossed.
My 2 cents
Ye, here you have the list:
MUSTS (otherwise I will NOT use the phone for my business):
- Network sharing
- People view by company OR search by company
- copy paste OR use selected text as signature
- outlook categories (seriously!) sort/show calendar, ppl, by category
- tasks list
WANTS (It would be nice to have it):
- activesync with desktop (mailny notes, and such)
- messaging hub (it is enough to group it together in one tile displaying summary of all unread messages, no matter from where they come. It can link to selection screen, where I can pick the mail/messaging account).
- connect tasks with SharePoint lists
- see Active Directory coleagues callendars (or at least simple meeting assistant that shows free/busy for attendees)
- Remote Desktop Connection (it is a pity that having that screen I cannot connect to my virtual desktop if needed)
I am business guy, and always used WinMo as a nice tool. Now... I have waited so long for WP7 and I cant use it for work. I gave it to my Woman, and now I am considering other OSes...
Microsoft, you are pissing on your most loyal customer segment!
