Live Mesh - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

Live Mesh is now available for Windows Mobile - cab is here: http://m.mesh.com/install/wm6/LiveMesh.cab
Also, Mesh has progressed from a Community Technology Preview limited Beta to a public Beta.
I've been using Mesh for a while and personally I really like it. I was very much looking forward to having it on my phone (Athena x7510 with 16 GB storage).
And here's the problem: despite installing and connecting OK, I keep getting an error message saying my phone couldn't be added to my Live Mesh.
Anybody else have a similar experience?

I have tried on my Diamond and get the same error message......oh well!
Cheers
Aidan

I found this thread, which discusses exactly what we're experiencing (just love the way they say this happens "in rare occurances" after a string of people reported the same error!):
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/...d/c7ce844c-a4e3-4be4-838d-1ebdca5986e7#page:1

Got it working now. This is what I did:
It would fail on adding my phone to Live Mesh when connected via the phone itself, so I plugged it into my PC and it went past the "adding phone idetifier" part.
It then failed with an error stating that only a limited number of users are allowed. I tried a few times but couldn't get past this point.
On the site they state it is currently limited to residents of the US or the UK - being a UK resident I didn't see why it'd fail. Still, clicking on the UK link each time would give me an error message, with the URL including IneligbleUser. Just to see if it would make a difference, I clicked on the US link and it went through without error.
Next I tried Mesh again on my phone, but without being plugged into my PC and it went through.
Seems to be working now, and I quite like the idea of photos auto-syncing between my handset and PC!
I think we can build a few interesting apps using Live Mesh as a foundation.

Thanks for the tip. However, I can't get to work...what link are you talking about? I don't see a US or UK link anywhere.... And yes, I am in the US.

Go to one of these on your desktop and then access http://m.mesh.com from your mobile.
US link: https://www.mesh.com/Web/Promo.aspx?pcode=Mob_FCFS1
UK link: https://www.mesh.com/Web/Promo.aspx?pcode=Mob_FCFS12

Thanks,
Got is installed. Not quite sure how I get it to start syncing up tho. Doesn't seem that the interface is very intuitive...
I presume I should be able to do folder syncronisation some how? Anything else?
Cheers
Aidan

Thanks, man.
I'd signed up for the beta of Live Mesh a while back, but never really did anything with it. This will make it a much more useful service, at least for me.

On my diamond after I managed to sign up, I have not been able to actually get it to do anything. I get a white screen then it bombs out.
The issue is on the mesh forums with no update as yet....
Cheers
Aidan

I've set Mesh on my Athena to sync the folder where photos taken are saved, and I've set the sync options to auto-sync on local changes.
It synced fine while connected via USB, but a mobile sync seems problematic.
Hope it is sorted soon, because I like the idea of auto-syncing photos. Also, it means I can raise a provisional invoice for clients and have the data synced with my office systems.

OK, got it working! I have to say I love this! Its like having a roaming profile wherever I go. I really couldn't be happier. MS finally did something right. If this is a hint as to how awesome WM7 is going to be... I can't even imagine. I'm all for new UI, but I really want better usability and more functionality.

I think the people must be carefully about that, now it's just a beta test, but later will require the payment of charges...!!!

Microsoft Bulgaria said there are no plans to make Live Mesh a subscription service

XDAII Blackberry desktop software? Anybody have it?

Hi,
I'm trying to get the Blackberry software working with my Blue Angel. I've got the right (O2 WWE) version of the handheld software, but it appears that I still need the desktop software for most configuration.
Can somebody please either post it, or post a link to where it can be downloaded?
Thanks in advance!
Found it... but still can't make it work...
There doesn't seem to be any way (at least thru the UI) to change any of t the settings and redirect to a different service provider...
I really hope I'm not stuck until Cingular gets its act together...
I guess we'll have to wait and see
cingular has given you a SEVEN client therefore I doubt that there will be blackberry software for the SX66 unless RIM releases PPC software that they sell. the SEVEN client has NOT worked for me (dont know why, but I continue to experiment). Since Cingular has pulled the SX66 from the shelves, and they dont seem to have another PPC phone out there on the market, I doubt we will be seeing blackberry licensed software from them.
I've got the SEVEN software working...
... but it sucks.
Unless your company buys the separate corporate ("blackberry-wannabe") service, you are forced to have the client software running on a desktop PC (either behind the firewall or with VPN) or pursue a "connection sharing" approach with somebody whose PC is behind the firewall.
For someone like me, who is the only user of this device / service at my company (everybody else has blackberries), I'm screwed the second I shut my laptop down.
Other things I hate about the SEVEN software:
- You are limited to a maximum of 3 days of mail history and only 75 mail messages. As I receive typically 100+ emails a day at work, I never have everything I need with me
- Calendar Sync is a JOKE. SEVEN runs a completely separate calendar program (doesn't sync with your ActiveSync calendar). I see absolutely no reason why I should have to look at two different calendars to keep my schedule straight on my PPC. Just plain dumb approach
I would be HAPPY TO PAY FOR THE BLACKBERRY SOFTWARE... Just wish they'd give us users a freakin' chance!
< End Rant >
Hopefully someone will come out with software, either blackberry (legal) or cracked (illegal?). I tried seven, not very useful to me, I deleted it from my PDA - just took up space.
Try:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/BlueAn...PocketPC_TMO_Austria_Germany_Load_Working.cab
It's in German but it loads and works. I believe you need your PIN/IMEI registered in RIM's Network.

I get access denied message when trying above link?
sorry forgot the login info:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_TMO_Austria_Germany_Load_Working.cab
If you are *not* registered for the service via your ISP with Blackberry, even if you get it working you will be kicked. They check for IMEIs & PINs that do not correspond with registered (with them) devices & periodically (1x per month) drop those that aren't...

iMate JasJam ExtRom 1.31.305.107 (Telstra)

New ExtROM for Telstra iMate. Has the new video viewer so you can watch Foxtel etc. Probably some other bits and pieces that I haven't had time to take a look at.
http://www.box.net/shared/xu8t6650u8
Haven't tried it with any of WM6 flavours.

Excellent work. Just loaded Black 2.0 and didn't really want to load the new rom I just downloaded from iMate website. Time to install some cabs and have a play with the Foxtel channels.
Dev
You mean the one that was released weeks ago and discussed here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299597&highlight=telstra+rom
yeah it was discussed and released, but nobody extracted or posted the extended rom.
I asked for it, but nobody did it. This is great, got the files.... now....
i noticed a lot of new stuff.... lots of cabs that are not normally there. does anybody know what they do!!! i would like to get some of the new features, i know instinctively what a lot of them do, but i really dont have any clear guidelines or indication for the following as to whether they will add value, or clutter....
Default ...
3518_07
A_AIMEIDetector
MyPlace
Wavedev
MWizard
NITZ Disable
PP Version
PrefRat_2
RTSP
These are the two I want
videoplayer_No_Unistall
Telstra v5.2
Just wondering if I need any of the first few, at all to get the next two.
I know some gurus can extract and see in side what they do, i dont have these facilities, skills or knowledge, so if there are people who can, would you mind... i can post the cabs individually back if you wish.

I believe the player is to fix a streaming video problem that existed in that the default player did not work with the format that Foxtel is streamed using.
Not sure about the Telstra 5.2 bit. I'm not smart enought to deconstruct these things...
EDIT: Oh never mind... I just realised what the question was... It's too early in the morning to be reading and posting

the Videoplayer_no_Uninstall is for Foxtel
Telstra v5.2 is for setting up dataconnections and stuff... but this checks your IMEI before it starts...and if its not an IMATE it will not load...
Ok, i seem to have found a little bit...
NITZ is network identification and time zone disabling facility, so dont install...
MyPlace appears to be some sort of shopping or internet web facility link/app probably just to encourage us to buy more...
WaveDev is supposed to add base boost to the device for tcpmp and the like, so probably worth installing
RTSP is real time streaming protocol, so probably needed for the foxtel installation
PP Version might be to do with the java midlet, not sure yet.
MWizard cant find anything on at all yet.
3818_07 and AUS_HR and prefRat_2 still looking....
Installed MyPlace cab which has a few good web shortcuts. Also installed the Videoplayer_no_Uninstall is for Foxtel, but it comes up with an error when I start the app."PVPlayer cannot be opened. Not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its componets cannot be found".
So I think it may need another one of the CAB's installed to get it working.
ANyone else had a play with this yet?
Cheers,
Dev
RTSP didn't help, still got the error.
I'll try another cab.
i have extracted and got all the cabs. i havent tried the foxtel, though that is the one that i want.
there is a subscription fee.
also an imei check is required, if you dont have imate, it wont install apparently. mine is imate jasjam, so hopefully it will work.

Getting a bit of research going, and testing.
FIRSTLY. IF YOU HAVE WM6 DO NOT INSTALL PV PLAYER OR RTSC.
You dont need it. Media Streaming works for Foxtel services. The reason PV Player is available is due to WM5 and the shortfall of the OS. WM6 uses media streaming and it works, so we dont need that.
The new telstra cab file is beneficial. It installs the correct settings for MMS and internet, sets the WAP facility and i also find i get better phone connection, might be an appearance, see later.
The proxy manager that is installed should be used with My Places, to force the system through the WAP and thus receive the concessional access charges of My Places. Also, My Places being WAP based, is very text limted, and download size limited compared to most, so the cost of access is much cheaper.
However, I suspect leaving the proxy on is going to interfere with push email, and general browsing. So its a matter of turning the proxy on before connecting to the internet (and WIFI is not available when proxy on), so that you can connect to the internet My Places and their rosey garden of chosen content.
However it is possible to access foxtel via the normal internet settings, but suspect if you do that you are going to get or incur premium data charges.
So in summary the ones i wanted i dont want, and the ones i didnt want or need, i installed. Not all though, if I couldnt see a reason for them, skipped them.
Still awaiting some feedback or input in what most of them were about, but if you are on telstra, then some of the items in that extended rom are worth while.
If somebody after this does want to know what i installed, and the effects (if known!), PM me. Its going to be a bit of trial and error over time, so better to PM rather than me keep posting back....
Also, might be beneficial for somebody to consider looking at some of the other files like the mms and other cab files, to see if they are newer, better, or more efficient than the standard device settings.
Personally, i aint gonna bother unless i find a need, i am sure anything in wm6 is going to be better than what imate are releasing.... (thanks to jasjamming and his premium wm 6 OS.... )
Thanks for the info simon. It is appreciated.
Is any of this required in WM6? Is it possible to just get the ExtRom by itself? I upgradded to the latest ROM from iMate/Telstra, but i want to upgrade to WM6 too...
just download ext rom review as reqd but install telstra cab and my places cab if u want foxtel. there are 3 others installed and didnt appear tause harm but cant see what they did or the benfits.
somebody needs to open the cabs and let us know wot they do.
i also installed the 3518 odd ball one, the one with AUS in it and pref-rat as its name imples prwference rates but dont really know wot these 3 did... but again caused no apparent harm.
Have installed those two cabs but cant get Foxtel to work.
I go to my place and click on the Foxtel icon, and I get the following error "Page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost". I do have a data connection as my push mail & web browsing works perfectly. I'll have to try other cabs as when I click on Bigpond music icon on My Place, it comes up and says Non Telstra, so there is obviously something missing.
Any ideas anyone?
Dev
Do you have the telstra proxy turned on?
you should b able to access wap on my places without proxy. proxy reqd for most things though including foxtel.
can u browse the internet? is connection set to internet or work?
if that fails disconnect from internet and use the telstra proxy and view the rese coloured telstra garden...
No, I didnt have proxy enabled. Just turned it on and it doesnt make any difference as I still get the same error message. When I click on the Foxtel icon, it want to connect to Telstra.internet, not Telstra.Wap. Both my WAP & Internet connections are working perfectly.
I'm stumped!
Dev
Yea - I cant get fox or AFL vids to function either. Can browse to the wap sites, etc, and click on the TV stuff, it loads up the Windows Media player, says 'Failed to connect', then closes.
Im working with WM6 Black 2.0, with just the Telstra 5.2 cab and My places cab installed. Proxy was set to 'On' for my testing.
Would like to know if I need any other cabs from the Ext rom to get it to work.
i am having difficulties. still testing. but... in media streaming ... need to set the connections settings as to which to use may be secure wap or simply wap. not sure which yet.
i had the test working ok... cant get live to work yet. need to fiddle and ensure doesnt exceed downloads while testing...

[APP] Send SMS from your PC.

UPDATE
Second Release
Right, you need to download the website and the application. Both of which i have now attached to this thread.
Follow the same process you did with the initial release, however, DO NOT edit the config file. There is now a tab in the app for this, please use this instead.
Also, there is now a log file if something goes wrong. It is called 2me2u_logfile.log and will be created in the same folder as the executable.
Initial Release: http://www.spikedsoftware.co.uk/blo...sending-smss-via-your-mobile-using-interwebs/
Evening guys,
I don't know about you, but i'm tired of texting from my whone when i'm at my desk. It's a long process and makes it look like i'm not busy at my desk, especially if i'm having a bit of a discussion with friends.
So i decided to write an app that sits on the phone, waiting for SMS's to be sent. You login to a web portal (which the app also logs into) and create your SMS there (as many as you wish) and when the app checks (every 1s to 300s) it'll download the messages you want to send, then send them. With a delivery report if you so wish.
Also looking for more features to add in once released, for example, SMSing you where your phone is, if you've lost it. Using the GPS.
It's still early, but that app is nearly programmatically complete. It's not very pretty, nor is the website. Hoping to get time this week to tidy it all up and get a test release out.
Watch this space Not even sure if this sort of app will be popular!
Will also be posting release information to my blog, http://www.spikedsoftware.co.uk

Not sure if this app will be popular!! Who are you kidding?
They charge a lot for this kind of thing, so it isn't cheap. If you want free hosting, let me know - I am not sure what methods you will be using for this, but as long as you know how to create the site, I can host it.
Thanks for the offer, for the moment i have hosting sorted however
Do you have the urls to the competitors?
Cheers,
Dean
Sounds good, but how will this differ from, say, mIQ? That allows you to send and receive SMSs via the web.
Huh... didn't actually see that on the web there.
Safe to say it's far more advanced that my application would be anytime soon. The only difference would be my remote GPS finder and that i had a plan to develop an app for Android.
Not much point now.
Thanks for finding that before i got too far into development!
sounds great, looking forward to it
Other than remote GPS finder, will there be any other special features?
Looks like i won't be continuing, mIQ already have the app i'm creating!
Well don't lose interest just yet. A dedicated solution just for that task, especially one I could host on say my own website would be a much preferred solution for me than yet another social site having access to all my information.
Its a cool idea, but I could see how people would be concerned with privacy. My text messages aren't always PG nor are the discussions always "legal". I personally don't concern myself with privacy anyhow.
Right now I just run MyMobiler and tether the phone to my PC and use the phone GUI with my keyboard. This app/service WOULD be very helpful for people with ridiculously strict IT departments and people who don't use Windows OS on their workstations. I'll definitely check it out when released. Sounds cool.

+1, a server that YOU choose would be fairly better than having to use a common service that would store our data...
The webserver could be our pc, or why not, getting a way to get it working throught a php script that could be hosted on any host we want to
Just my opinion...
[APP - Release] Send SMS from your PC, RELEASED.
Well, you guys are on the exact train i am.
Basically, i was going to host it on my site, and if people were interested, then open it up for registration etc. However, you're right, Privacy was a worry and i'm not sure i like my information being held by someone else, i only just allowe Facebook to.
So, i'll continue, get it polished up, then release a package that people can deploy wherever the hell they want
Hopefully this weekend some time, i would imagine? Busy all week
Cheers guys!
thats the spirit man.. just checked out that other software.. exactly the sort of thing i DIDN'T want.. uninstalled it within 5mins of messing around.
Looking forward to your solution! sounds much more like the sort of thing I would be interested in (and many more im sure)
Anyone think of a good name? :\

Because you need to be able to get to your phone, i.e. ActiveSync or via WiFi.
I don't know about you, but at my place of work, we don't have any drivers installed on the machines to allow us to use USB Devices, other than the keyboard and mouse. And we don't have WiFi that will get us onto the main network. So that option would be out.
Sounds really cool, I'd definitely use it. Right now I just use MyMobiler and just type with my pc keyboard on my phone under the keyboard on ABC. Works fine for me now, but my phone needs to be plugged in if I want to use it.
Hey all,
Thanks for the support, very early release can be found here.
Please can you all try it, let me know how you get on. It's very simple, but it does the trick.
Cheers,
D
Sounds like a good idea, but not sure how many people know this, but as long as you know that format for a carrier you can actually send a message via e-mail to a person's phone as a text.
For Sprint it's <10 digit number>@messaging.sprintpcs.com
for AT&T it's <10 digit number>@txt.att.net and to send MMS to ATT it's @mms.att.net
I have a list of HUNDREDS of the formats somewhere I will post if you all want.
Could you? Would be interesting. Thanks.
Any tried it yet? I've had alot of views and no feedback?

First Impressions / How to make WP7 Perfect (perhaps)

I hope no-one minds but I got my Mozart yesterday and the only link that seems to talk about what is good and bad about it (here) hasn't had a new entry since November.
I also reckon that the Microsoft Developers know that xda-developers is the only place to go for sensible smartphone discussions and hopefully they will read this and make some changes.
I wasn't convinced that the Mozart would be better than my HD2 but actually....
Good:
Great Screen Resolution
Fast
Internet Explorer is better than I expected and the Pinch to Zoom is great
I like the start screen and the way the 3G signal gets out of the way
Bad:
No Comm Manager - switching on WiFi, Bluetooth, Flight Mode is a real pain
No Internet Sharing - AARRRRGGGHH!
Can't find my WiFi with hidden ESSID - GGGRRRRR!
No MyPhone Sync
I'm not sure I'm keen on the lock-down on apps - it's probably the only thing that will force me to Open Source Android.
I used gyrator2 to switch the screen off when I turned the HD2 vertically down - it saved on battery.
Thank goodness MS don't seem to have made WP7 into a steppingstone to a proper OS (like vista was to Win7!). The way I'm using it, it's the almost finished.
I'm hoping that someone will come up with a Comm Manager App. But I don't know about the other stuff.
Has anyone else got anything to add? What would make WP7 work better for you?
PS Please move this if it's duplicated elsewhere.
Thanks for the heads-up, just brought a Mozart today expecting delivery on Tuesday, I've come from the Android phones Galaxy S & X10 Mini, will be interesting to see how this shapes up against them.
anoyances
i also bought one and generally i think they realy solved the job doing a MS based phone that works. (i moved from a diamond2 with os6.5)
but what realy makes me angry is that i read in the commcersials and specs that i could use mp3 for ringtones (wich phones cant today anyway). but even if being a trivial requerent i would not go with out it.
now i realize that i can use mp3 - BUT ONLY IF I BUY IT FROM ZUNE WTF!!!!!
are they trying out the apple business plan?
im aware that i can "jail break" (where did i last hear about this.. og iPhone/apple) .. but i risk brick´ing my phone and thats a bummer.
still realy nice phone.
a file handler would be nice though and some grouping functionality. the start screeen cannot collect all your messaging and mail in a single icon for access. you have to add evry single one of them in the shortcut list for ease of access.. thats anoying if you have 4 mail and text messaging like me.. grouping would rock..
another thing is "People" its a looker if you want to see contratct and facebook updates, byt anoying for phone contact list
and whats it with the contact list? you cannot sync with outlook only exchange serveres. otherwise you have to expose your full contact list on windows live or facebook to get it synced to your phone.
now i believe i should be paid for using my phone then.. they get to know me and all of my friends including phone info, full name, job detaisl address etc etc. thats something that valueable.. and i dont get to choose if i want to take part.. i want money Zune/HTC and Microsoft!
im semi pleased .. nice phone but realy creapy business methods
A week later....an update
I can see what you're saying js0937.
I'm not really into changing the ringtone but I did notice that you couldn't do it. I can't believe that it has to come from Zune - it does make Android seem very attractive!
I've coped with the Outlook / Live syncing by having a separate account for my contacts but it is a bit long-winded.
I'm waiting for the update (due in Jan 2011 but when??? we're already two-thirds through!) to see whether these problems get solved.
Given that I worked with winphone 6.5 for so long, winphone7 is still much, much better but I still want Internet Sharing and a Comm Manager

Update whill be soon (7 feb.?)
h..p://microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/features/update-info.aspx
Hoping the update sorts the voice dialing out as its rubbish compaired to 6.5. This is a big step back. Be nice to get more info of what the update will bring. Roll on the 7th, fingers crossed.
My 2 cents
Ye, here you have the list:
MUSTS (otherwise I will NOT use the phone for my business):
- Network sharing
- People view by company OR search by company
- copy paste OR use selected text as signature
- outlook categories (seriously!) sort/show calendar, ppl, by category
- tasks list
WANTS (It would be nice to have it):
- activesync with desktop (mailny notes, and such)
- messaging hub (it is enough to group it together in one tile displaying summary of all unread messages, no matter from where they come. It can link to selection screen, where I can pick the mail/messaging account).
- connect tasks with SharePoint lists
- see Active Directory coleagues callendars (or at least simple meeting assistant that shows free/busy for attendees)
- Remote Desktop Connection (it is a pity that having that screen I cannot connect to my virtual desktop if needed)
I am business guy, and always used WinMo as a nice tool. Now... I have waited so long for WP7 and I cant use it for work. I gave it to my Woman, and now I am considering other OSes...
Microsoft, you are pissing on your most loyal customer segment!

Torque Pro OBD app and data logging

So i got myself an OBD bluetooth scanner and the Torque app...bloody brilliant.
So much information!
anyway, i cant seem to get it to upload data logs to the web viewer?

I imagine the particular posters have found answers to their problems seeing as this thread
dates from 2014 but I thought it might be worthwhile answering all the same as I ran in to the same niggles when I began using this app so if anyone searching these issues subsequently may find some worth from my reply.
First of all as a far as experience and knowledge is concerned. Firstly with cars;fixing, modifying, engine management tuning, obd2, diagnostics. Basically my auto knowledge is extremely wide and extensive from approx 35 years of obsession and getting stuck in an the deep end whereas my knowledge and experience of computers and smart phone tech is on much, much shakier ground
In fact, for those of my vintage. i.e late 30s,early 40s remember when we were kids. and programmable VCRs were the height of cutting edga technology. Well I'm like the way our parents and grand parents were then. i.e pretty much baffled by it and even following the instructions it was hit and miss whether you actually managed to record that film rhat was on at 4am lol.
So for the second issue brought up by the OP it doesn't matter whether you email yourself the log file or not (I found the few times i tried it that the file wouldn't attach and when it did the problem was the same anyway) you need Microsoft Office or any other type of office suite to view the files. On the pc i have Microsoft office but had to download an app to my phone to view. csv files. Again an office suite that not only displays. csv files but puts them into a spreadsheet format is required.
As for the first issue it's preferable in every way to view the site. on a pc because on the phone display the actual box to sign into is off screen and takes a little bit of zooming out and seaching to find, the same goes after you have signed in when another box appears with a list of the logs files recorded and the tab to choose it. This is where my lack of fundamental computer/web knowledge comes in. I can't tell you why it doesn't sit nicely inti an easily accessible mobile format but it doesn't. Once you've found the first sign in box/pop up it becomes simple, annoying but simple.
As for there being nothing after signing into the webview site successfully all I can assume is either you've no log files to view which you should have if it's all been set up correctly, including choosing which PIDs to send to logfile or the pop up/window where you click on your logfiles is right off screen and has to be looked for. Of course you don't get that problem if accessed using your desktop.
