Will new UK rom stop me unlocking? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I'm waiting for my new XDA-II to be delivered and have been browsing this site in anticipation.
I see there is an updated rom for the UK model. I'd like to install this when i get the unit, but wondered if this would hinder my chances of unlocking the device.
Anyone had good experience with unlocking, do you just use the unlock tool?
cheers

Yep, it's that simple. I only got my XDAII last week. Unlocked fine. Upgraded OS this evening, again no problems - and still unlocked!

My ameo unlocked, possible to flash the rom?

Hi gang, I haven't had my ameo for more than a week, bought it brand new and unlocked on ebay from the u.k (I'm in Australia) so far it's working great, but I don't like some of the t-mobile specific stuff. is it possible (after doing MUCH reading to make sure I know all the possibilities) to use a dopod or htc rom reasonably safely?
Thanks for all replies.
hi there are 2 locks here 1) sim unlock (this is unlocked) and 2) cid unlock (still cannot be unock)
sim unlock enable to use various carrier while cid unlock enable to flash various roms.
so in this case i'm afraid that you will not be able to flash to other rom
hope this explains
cheers
At least not be able to flash to other ROM until the CID unlock is developed for the phone. It'll come soon.
Ahh, I see now, thanks guys, I'll sit back patiently and let the gurus do their thing

Can the HTC WM6 update be installed after sim unlock?

I used the unlocker to unlock the sim only. Can I upgrade tothe offical WM6 from the HTC site for AT&T without any problems? Or is there a chance of bricking the device?
Thanks

There is always a change to brick a device when flashing it. 'Tis the nature of the beast.
However, there is a way to greatly reduce the chances of bricking your hermes, and that is to install HardSPL.
Check this post out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Make sure to read the wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes) and by the phone deities, don't try to flash your phone without HardSPL installed!
As for your question, if you have an AT&T branded phone, you should be able to flash it to the AT&T release. If you don't have an AT&T phone, you won't be able to, unless you make the phone SuperCID (which HardSPL will do).
If you are using AT&T, I hear good things about vp3g's ROM, available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313392.
Mr. Vanx also has a really good guide at http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/, covering many flashing questions.
Now, go forth and read!

Easy SIM unlock for HTC Hero?

Hi guys,
Done a search, and as far as I can see, I'm going to have to pay 17 Euros to unlock my Hero. Since the recent root access breakthrough, is there an easy way to SIM unlock the Hero that may save me 17 Euros?
Cheers,
BS...
Seriously, not even one reply?
Is it possible to unlock a Magic after it's been rooted?
Cheers,
BS...
lol. be patient as the Hero forums are very small and not too much people is available to respond your questions.
I believe if you do a google search you can find cheaper solutions, however it wont happen for free. I for one had it shipped to me Factory unlocked from HTC.
if you really need sim unlock pay the money its not that much, but if your willing to wait, im sure it will come soon enough.
The phone came out within the last month, it takes a while for people to figure out things like that.
Flash the phone ?
What if you flash the phone with the hero stock rom, shouldn't that clear all sim locks etc? I flashed my phone with the factory rom to start anew, and you don't need to worry about locale(localization settings), as they seem to autosetup during the flash.
Anybody know if it works ?

Your phone will still be unlocked. If its not, remember the code and type it in again.
-- Edit -- Sorry, I completely read the question wrong, I thought you asked... "If the phone is unlocked and I flash a rom, will it lock the phone again".. God knows where I got that from

No - the SIM lock is a quite separate thing. Flashing a ROM from an unlocked Hero on a locked device will not unlock it.

Hi
This is my first post and I hope it will be helpful to anyone interested in unlocking their HTC Hero on the Orange UK network.
Goto:
HTC Hero - ROM upgrade for HTC Hero (Orange)
and download the ROM:
ROM Version:2.73.61.66 for Orange. Then you can miss out all the the MODACO rubbish, because this ROM allows you to use the code without hindrance (TESTED), Install it onto your phone, then goto:
HTC Hero Unlock Code | Unlocking.com
and purchase a SIM UNLOCK CODE (£11.99 at the moment, 50%OFF) and follow instructions to unlock your phone.
The main reason I have posted this is that "Unlocking.com" will issue you with the unlock code within 5 minutes they say between 6-12 minutes.
IT WORKS and they're one of the cheapest around. I have used them and they are really FAST and the code WORKS...
Thanks
i can comfirm i have done this and it worked for me on uk orange network.
Correct. The 2.73.61.66 update now allows all unlock codes to work as designed.
i did try and put a link to rom here but because i am a new user i am not permitted to post outside links SORRY
this is so easy also dont forget you need htc sync installed on your pc you can download it from htc too.
I think this will make a good sticky but also put in title uk orange
Anyone got a free way to unlock the phone for any sim yet? Something like a code generator or software update?
Didn't work for me

I went onto unlocking.com, and paid the £12 or however much it was.
They emailed me back in about 2 days and advised me they couldn't get a code, so they went to my network (Orange UK) and came back saying they were unable to get a code.
Went to my local unlocking place and they said there isn't a way to unlock Android phones as of yet (not without being all technical and downloading all these thingymajiggs to hack your phone and whatnot).
So I'm not too sure how I would go about getting a code to unlock my phone.
You could try following this suggestion on modaco.
The only caveat is that /some/ orange firmwares are buggy & won't accept any unlock code, however if you've rooted your phone & are running a custom rom such as MCR 3.2, you shouldn't have any problems.
Hi all new to this forum.
But i've had my htc hero for a month now , and being trying to get it unlocked ever since.
Finally today i found out that if you have the latest ROM Version 2.73.61.66
then your phone can be unlocked, apparently htc and orange put some bug in the orange htc hero's that did'nt allow unlocking , but with the new rom version this now allows unlock.
This is for orange , don't no about other networks.
Also you must have been using the phone on orange for at least 3 months .
Which means i have to wait another 2 months ,DOH, but at least ther is light at the end of the tunnel. Hope this helps.
kopite61 .

A quicker way - if you don't want to wait - would be to go to a website like www dot mobifreedom dot net (they charge £12.50) and get it unlocked. I got mine unlocked after T-Mobile refused to do it for me. I swore to never get back on TMobile again

IOT_H850 does not support bootloader unlock

Hi, i just recieved my H850 which i bought online, when i tried to boot-unlock this one, the site responded "your device IOT_H850 does not support bootloader unlock, please check your model" so i emailed lg-dev support. They told me that it was a sample unit and does not support bootloader unlock. My question from this helpful community is that am i doomed in this matter(unlocking bootloader/ rooting/ rom updates) or is there any hope. I cant get a replacement on my device so thats out of options.
unfortunate there is no way to unlock
the only way to root is to wait for an exploit or to get a replacement unit
but if you can not do that, you are out of luck
That is what i am gonna do, Wait.
Facing same issue how much we have to wait?
IOT_H850 is a sample model. Allows updating via OTA or through LG Bridge???
Thank you.
Hello,
I've same problem, not yet any possibility actually?
Same problem here also. help please
