SMS tones? - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hi,
The standard alerts are a bit naff. I'm trying to find a decent SMS alert sound, similar to those found in normal phones. Anyone got any?

I agree, I wish I had better(louder) ones for mine.
You would have thought that being able to choose any .WAV for ringtones, something similar could be done for incoming SMS.

I've found out how to do it from the Tekguru site.
Copy the wav files into \windows\ folder and then it will be seen for tones

I use those two sms tones
This is the original nokia mobiles sms tone.

Here's the second one..
Don't forget to place it in \WINDOWS

Someone got any other SMS-tones?

[Q] New message tone

Hi all,
I would like to use my own message tone - not the stock tones. I have already done this with the ringtone but the message tone refuses to play ball
Will someone please let me know how to do this if possible? Thanks.

On your internal card find a folder called media, inside that one should be one called audio and inside that one notifications, put your alert tones in there. If the folder does not exist, just create it.

I want the buzzer from the 1980's quiz show catchphrase if anyone one knows where I could obtain it. Friend had it years ago and I've never been able to locate it.

Padlad - you are a star - thanks very much
I read this somewhere and it worked for me:
Created 3 folders in the root (phone or sd):
Ringtones
Notifications
Alarms
Put your mp3's in there and they come up rightaway... not reboot required!

Free Ringtones and SMS tones.....

UPDATED!
140 Total Tones/SMS for Free download!
I made ringtones from instrumental versions of a bunch of songs. They are melodies I enjoy so hopefully others may come across something they like. I suggest listening to all before deciding its not your taste. All ringtones had the bass decreased and were slightly amplified to sound better on a phone. Please feel free to leave feedback and suggestions for other ringtones. If I can find the instrumental version of your favorite song then I will make a ringtone. Thanks!

when you say voice mail greeting do you mean voicmail notification sound? meaning the sound your phone makes to let you know that you have a voice mail? if so you take the tone and copy it on your sd card to this location...media/audio/notifications Hope that helps.

You might need to reboot phone afterwards, but im not 100% sure so just check first before you reboot.

then what you said originally is correct....unfortunatly I dont know another way to do it besides playing the clip while recording the greeting on the phone. If anyone else knows a more direct way to plug and play a clip as a greeting please chime in as I would like to know this too. THanks
How do I get these?

[Q] Transfer system ringtone files to SD

I have been doing a lot of searching and cannot find the answer as to how to transfer ringtones from the phones internal storage to the SD card.
I am running Cyanogenmod 7 and under the settings for the ringtones, at the top I have ringtones in english text and at the bottom I have ringtones in chinese text. I really like the chinese ringtones but are not available in the newer version of cyanogenmod 7.
I have check the sounds with the SD card removed from the phone and the ringtones I want to transfer are on the phone itself. I searched in \system\media\audio\ringtones and I can only find the english ringtones. I can not seem to find the ringtone anywhere in the directory tree. The only place I have access to the ringtones is in the sound settings. I even went as far as making a backup in recovery and extracting the .img files to possibly get the ringtones there.
I have attached 2 pictures of the settings where I see the ringtones.
At this point I am completely out of ideas. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really like to keep these ringtones for my next rom update. Thanks in advance.
I found one ringtone online 月下江南
I did find one ringtone online from here "mobile.91.com/Ring/32308.html" (still cannot post outside links). The other one will be more of a challenge since the characters are more complex. I hope I can get the others out of the phone. If you have any ideas, please reply. If I figure something out along the way, I will post my solution.

I just wanted to share these ringtones I found online. I use to cut my own ringtone from songs (was an obsession for a while), then I decided to keep it classy. Enjoy!

Thanks for the link. I've been looking for the old British General Post ringtone for some time. Its classic.
These are actually pretty sweet. Thanks!
Preciate the post...I'm one of those who doesn't really dig the "music" tones either...can't hear them very well sometimes. Look forward to trying these out.
And, you probably already know about this too...but there's an app (yes there's an app for that ) on the market called Zedge. It's an interface that lets you browse thousands of tones (ringtones, notifications, etc) and you can even enter your own search. It allows you to download directly to the phone and assign it yourself. I've gotten some cool ones off there.
Thanks again!

[Q] Timely alarm clock as ringtone?

Hello, recently I found out about the AMAZING app Timely. It is absolutely beautiful and works great. I really love the default sounds it comes with, and would like to know if I could get one of the alarms as my ringtone. So is there a way to get the music off this app?
Galaxy note 3 Sprint, not rooted (yet)

Any chance you could re-post that zip file? The only other way to get the sound files appears to be extracting the apk and I'm not sure I know enough to do that successfully.
You can find timely apk file on your device (in /data/app folder), select it and choose to extract (apk is a package like a zip file). All sounds in ogg format are in res/raw folder

I'm pretty crushed that they've stopped supporting Timely, it really was the greatest Alarm Clock Android has ever seen.
Personally I can't find the .apk file on my phone, but I've found a few other places on the net where it can be downloaded and extracted.
There's even a SoundCloud playlist (I can't post links yet, sorry)
The trick for Dalia (My favorite as well) is that the actual file name is "la_gitar.ogg". I had to listen to them all to find which one it was.
Several others have different names in the app versus the actual file name.
Hope this info helps others.
Cheers!
But.....
Could you tell me where you found the file? I've searched, and still can't find it
Thank you for the help! It's very sad that Timely is no longer supported, best clock app on Android, have been using it for years! 5 plus easy! But at least now I can use the alarm sound I'm used to.
