[Q] New message tone - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I would like to use my own message tone - not the stock tones. I have already done this with the ringtone but the message tone refuses to play ball
Will someone please let me know how to do this if possible? Thanks.

On your internal card find a folder called media, inside that one should be one called audio and inside that one notifications, put your alert tones in there. If the folder does not exist, just create it.

brilliant thanks, just had to reboot the phone before the file appeared

I want the buzzer from the 1980's quiz show catchphrase if anyone one knows where I could obtain it. Friend had it years ago and I've never been able to locate it.

Found this link to the tone: http://www.hodgers.com/downloads/catchphrase.mp3

Your a diamond cheers fella!

Message tone
Padlad - you are a star - thanks very much

I read this somewhere and it worked for me:
Created 3 folders in the root (phone or sd):
Ringtones
Notifications
Alarms
Put your mp3's in there and they come up rightaway... not reboot required!

SMS tones?

Hi,
The standard alerts are a bit naff. I'm trying to find a decent SMS alert sound, similar to those found in normal phones. Anyone got any?
I agree, I wish I had better(louder) ones for mine.
You would have thought that being able to choose any .WAV for ringtones, something similar could be done for incoming SMS.

I've found out how to do it from the Tekguru site.
Copy the wav files into \windows\ folder and then it will be seen for tones
I use those two sms tones
This is the original nokia mobiles sms tone.
Here's the second one..
Don't forget to place it in \WINDOWS
Someone got any other SMS-tones?

Use songs as ringtone?

Is it possible to have a song or sound effect as my ringtone or message tone?
Yes, it is: put the wanted (edited) .mp3-wav in windows file and choose it from phone-menu-settings for ringtone(somehow simillar for message tone).
as above said put your mp3 ect in windows sound folder
for ringtone - you can use anything as it will stop wen u answer
for text - you need to edit lenght of song as it will play it all even if you click read text, so make something thats like 3 seconds

whre is the windows folder pal>?
Use start/file explorer/windows...
Throw in your desired mp3/wav(recommended) file and you would be able to find it in phone/settings.
heers mate, You have a tg01 too?
Any apps you can reccomend? there all expensive on the windows app centre. Wanting a twitter one ect for free
Also can i use SPB on it? Mine is running wm 6.5
Yeah, tg01,mate...
You can use spb shell 3.5, don,t worry about...
Look out on ppc*arez for all kind of apps...
Or use Ringo (it allows you to alter your text message sounds too).

tried that on WM6.5 - for sms it works, for phone rings not.
it only displays 5 default ringtones
have you guys actually tried (and succeeded) that?
Or try to put your desired mp3(or whatever) in windows/rings folder, it's workinng...
Pe bunee...
Or just put it in "\Storage Card\My Documents\My Ringtones" (create the folders if they don't exist) then goto "Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications", select the "Notifications" tab and select your ringtone and message tone from there.
My question stays: did any of you tried that on a WM 6.5 TG01?
I did - it did not work for me; from your answers I have the feeling (I must confess) that you did not try that
Yes. I have a TG01 with WM6.5 pre-installed. I created an mp3 ringtone and put it in "\Storage Card\My Documents\My Ringtones". I went to "Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications", selected the "Notifications" tab, and used the combo boxes to select my mp3 as the main ringtone. My ringtone appeared in the list no problems.
sorry dupe post

many thanks for bearing with me through this hard (for me) task
after little experience and trial on my own (this is my very first WM device) I managed to put them in \windows\Rings - this works fine.
but, if you are saying that you can put them on the Storage card, I would rather go your way to save space on the phone (my mp3 are quite large)...
now the next logical step is to have different rings for different contacts - there is no indication how to do this...and YES I have read the whole user manual

The way I know:
in every contact you have when you open it (tap one, tap twice on name) you'll see the row Ring tone: tap on it and select your prefferred ringtone.
I don't know for specific sms tone for each contact: never crossed my mind??!!

[Q] Transfer system ringtone files to SD

I have been doing a lot of searching and cannot find the answer as to how to transfer ringtones from the phones internal storage to the SD card.
I am running Cyanogenmod 7 and under the settings for the ringtones, at the top I have ringtones in english text and at the bottom I have ringtones in chinese text. I really like the chinese ringtones but are not available in the newer version of cyanogenmod 7.
I have check the sounds with the SD card removed from the phone and the ringtones I want to transfer are on the phone itself. I searched in \system\media\audio\ringtones and I can only find the english ringtones. I can not seem to find the ringtone anywhere in the directory tree. The only place I have access to the ringtones is in the sound settings. I even went as far as making a backup in recovery and extracting the .img files to possibly get the ringtones there.
I have attached 2 pictures of the settings where I see the ringtones.
At this point I am completely out of ideas. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really like to keep these ringtones for my next rom update. Thanks in advance.
I found one ringtone online ζœˆδΈ‹ζ±Ÿε—
I did find one ringtone online from here "mobile.91.com/Ring/32308.html" (still cannot post outside links). The other one will be more of a challenge since the characters are more complex. I hope I can get the others out of the phone. If you have any ideas, please reply. If I figure something out along the way, I will post my solution.

Ringback tones.

More of a Verizon question but seeing as i have and android powered phone figured this be the best place to post it .
Is there a way to create my own Ringback tone that plays in place of the normal ring ring ring people get when calling you.
The media i want in place of it is "The Mental Health Hotline " LOL if you've never herd this before check it out it's funny as hell.Verizon has a few versions of it but they all have music n techno to it and it drowns out the message.Oh one more thing the fullest version i can find is 46 sec long and ends with the "If you have low self esteem hangup all our operators are to busy to listen to you..........
Hmm seems not many have any idea me included. I've email verizon numerous times to no avail I guess I'm gonna have to deal with the stupid music put to it.

Not sure if any company would ever do that... but:
There is even better solution!
I've created an app to do all this "ringback tone stuff" the right way.
How it supposed to be from the start!
Now, you can hear your favorite music or ringtone, while you waiting until call pickup.
Grab it here:

[Q] Lost sound pack, does anyone know which one I had :)

I accidentally dropped my HOX in the ocean :-/... I used a ringtone Open Ocean on my HTC which I want to use again on my new phone. If I recall correctly I downloaded some HTC notifications and ringtones pack here which contained that particular ringtone.
Been searching the forum but can't find the sound pack. Does anyone know which soundpack I am taking about maybe?
Thanks
