Use songs as ringtone? - TG01 General

Is it possible to have a song or sound effect as my ringtone or message tone?

Yes, it is: put the wanted (edited) .mp3-wav in windows file and choose it from phone-menu-settings for ringtone(somehow simillar for message tone).

as above said put your mp3 ect in windows sound folder
for ringtone - you can use anything as it will stop wen u answer
for text - you need to edit lenght of song as it will play it all even if you click read text, so make something thats like 3 seconds

Use start/file explorer/windows...
Throw in your desired mp3/wav(recommended) file and you would be able to find it in phone/settings.

heers mate, You have a tg01 too?
Any apps you can reccomend? there all expensive on the windows app centre. Wanting a twitter one ect for free
Also can i use SPB on it? Mine is running wm 6.5

Yeah, tg01,mate...
You can use spb shell 3.5, don,t worry about...
Look out on ppc*arez for all kind of apps...

Or use Ringo (it allows you to alter your text message sounds too).

tried that on WM6.5 - for sms it works, for phone rings not.
it only displays 5 default ringtones
have you guys actually tried (and succeeded) that?

Or try to put your desired mp3(or whatever) in windows/rings folder, it's workinng...
Pe bunee...

Or just put it in "\Storage Card\My Documents\My Ringtones" (create the folders if they don't exist) then goto "Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications", select the "Notifications" tab and select your ringtone and message tone from there.

My question stays: did any of you tried that on a WM 6.5 TG01?
I did - it did not work for me; from your answers I have the feeling (I must confess) that you did not try that

Yes. I have a TG01 with WM6.5 pre-installed. I created an mp3 ringtone and put it in "\Storage Card\My Documents\My Ringtones". I went to "Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications", selected the "Notifications" tab, and used the combo boxes to select my mp3 as the main ringtone. My ringtone appeared in the list no problems.

sorry dupe post

many thanks for bearing with me through this hard (for me) task
after little experience and trial on my own (this is my very first WM device) I managed to put them in \windows\Rings - this works fine.
but, if you are saying that you can put them on the Storage card, I would rather go your way to save space on the phone (my mp3 are quite large)...
now the next logical step is to have different rings for different contacts - there is no indication how to do this...and YES I have read the whole user manual

The way I know:
in every contact you have when you open it (tap one, tap twice on name) you'll see the row Ring tone: tap on it and select your prefferred ringtone.
I don't know for specific sms tone for each contact: never crossed my mind??!!

SMS tones?

Hi,
The standard alerts are a bit naff. I'm trying to find a decent SMS alert sound, similar to those found in normal phones. Anyone got any?
I agree, I wish I had better(louder) ones for mine.
You would have thought that being able to choose any .WAV for ringtones, something similar could be done for incoming SMS.

I've found out how to do it from the Tekguru site.
Copy the wav files into \windows\ folder and then it will be seen for tones
I use those two sms tones
This is the original nokia mobiles sms tone.
Here's the second one..
Don't forget to place it in \WINDOWS

[RELEASE] Tone Manager v0.2 - Set Ringtones based on categories, in priority order

Hi there,
I was looking around for an app to let you choose different ringtones for contacts on a priority basis.
I found something similar by v3patel, but it didn't allow me to prioritise, e.g. a 'personal' ringtone to take precedence over a 'business' ringrone when a contact is in both categories.
....so I made this app. I hope that it might be useful for others too, do as ever let me know of any bug reports or feature requests.
EDIT: If you were testing v0.1, please upgrade to v0.2 for an important bugfix!
Download Link Here - v0.2
This app requires the .net compact framework on your device. For WM6 this comes pre-installed in ROM, others need to download here
Carlos
=====
Instructions
============
1. Choose a category and a ringtone.
2. Click 'Add to list' to add it to the priority list.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you've chosen all your desired categories and ringtones.
4. Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to order your list into priority; categories at the top take precedence over categories below them.
5. Click 'Set Now' to make the changes.
Troubleshooting
===============
The app assumes that the ringtones are stored in \Windows\Rings. If this is NOT the case, go to the menu and choose 'Set Folder' to point it to a different location. This setting is currently NOT stored (sorry!) but will be in a future release if I get time!

cool, will try
Good work....
Hey, great work and a good idea...
will try it also (it's too late to tell someone to call me )
Maybe it could be possible to listen to the ringtones before adding in a future release ? Just as input for you....
what does it mean "choice currently not stored" ? Will the changes be made to the categories, but when you restart your app, you can't see it anymore ? I think it is this way, but i'm not really sure....
Anyway, i like it !
Cheers, Peter

No, it just means that your preferences aren't stored, including where you tell the app to look for the ringtones. Your contacts will be set to the new ringtones you ask for and will stay this way, even after a reset.
nice work. will try today. thx

Sorry, I forget to mention that the app requires the .net compact framework 2.0 to be installed, perhaps this is giving you the error. Download link added to first post.

Hi, for anyone experiencing problems with ringtones not playing in v0.1, please upgrade to v0.2 for an important bugfix... ...first post updated!
Do please keep feedback & suggestions coming - nearly 200 downloads and no comments on the program!

wm6 should have 2.0 by default. at least on official rom. I believe the bape rom should also have it. Anyway, I will try 2.0 out tonite and report later.

No, please try it out and let us know if possible!
If you just want to test the app, you could always add a contact to a new category, for example, "Test". Then just run the app and assign all contacts in category "Test" to a ringtone. If the contact you changed is successfully updated then the program works for you! If not, no harm done.
Do let us know if you have success.

It is perhaps to do with the recorded version number of your ROM and the settings for my CAB file.
Can you post the exact error message that you are receiving, along with when you are receiving it? Then I can try and help you.
C
It didn't work on my Prophet running WM6.
The program itself works, and assigns the correct ringtone to each category, but when a person calls, the default ringtone that is set in sounds & notification is played instead of the category ringtone assigned.
In each contact's information, the correct ringtone for that category is assigned. But it doesn't play that tone when that person calls.
When I open someone's contact detail and tap the ringtone, the left softkey changes to "play". When I tap that, there's no sound.
However, if I assign that same ringtone manually in the contact details, it plays when I tap "Play"
Hope you understand what I mean...

Thank you - if only all bug reports were that detailed!
Can you confirm that you're running v0.2 of the program? There was a bug in v0.1 that caused this behaviour. (see first post for download link)

Hi carlosp,
Yes, v0.2 works perfectly. Thanx for this app! It really saves us the chore of having to assign a ringtone for each contact individually.
Now, I'm trying to decide if I still need innesoft address book...

No problem - let me know if you have any bug reports or more feature requests. I was thinking perhaps add an 'Any Category' option in the drop down, so that it's possible to unassign ringtones from all contacts in order to clear everything off and start again.
Hi,
something strange happened: I flashed my prophet to Prophet Touch VII ROM (I was on v6 before), and the Tone Manager didn't work.
Ran the program as usual, but after that I got the same problem as described in my post above. The ringtones are assigned to each contact but doesn't play during the incoming call. Exactly the same prob as in v01.
Strange....??? it was working before on my previous ROM....
A request: the folder is not saved but always reverts back to \windows\rings at each opening of the program. I have mine in the SD card... can you make the prog save the SET FOLDER?
Thanx...
EDIT: I re-downloaded the program from your website and re-installed it, and it works! Very strange, maybe the file in my PC got corrupted or something...

[Q] audio identification of incoming call

My old Nokia N95 had a feature that announced via the speaker the name of the person making an incoming call (provided name was in contacts). It was not brilliant and it had difficulty with some names (my friend doug sounded more like dog). However it was a good method of screening calls remotely especially if you are on the top a a ladder! Is this feature available on my HTC HD2 (virgin mobile) ?
New to XDA apologies if this has already been covered
I am sure MS Voice command will do that. You can download the cab from here http://www.energyroms.com/Addons/

jeeem, you will be disappointed to note that there are still bugs reported with MSVC, however you can be glad that it will be announcing the respective incoming caller's names / numbers.
If you havn't installed the .cab yet please note 2 things:
First: during installation, you will be prompted (and WARNED!!!) to install the MSVC on your device instead of the storage card. It actually doesn't matter even if you install it on your storage card instead of device, so install it at your desired location. (I prefer to install it on the card as I am extremely miser to save every bit possible, on the device!!!).
Second: After the installtion, you will be prompted with a WARNING saying the installation was UNsuccessful. This is BUG!!!. Ignore it. Restart and enjoy...

Jeeem, MSVC does work, and as I mentioned in my last post to you, you have to install in accordingly. However as you mentioned in your reply, it seems you are not able to get it done, which to me it appears you might not be having teh APPROPRIATE VERSION or the correct .CAB file. Should you wish, I can mail the correct working cab on your email.

Hello All,
Just Wondering...Is there a message sent sound for the HD2?
For example,,

Is there a sound cab or something that can make the hd2 do the same thing?
Thanks.
