IIi user.... Sharing roms and Country ID problem ??? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hello IIi users,
I sold my Magician and 'upgrade' to IIi.  When I was using the old Magician, I could use all other roms provided by different 'vendors'. Can we do the same in IIi and how ???? Also, can some one tell me what is the most update roms version in IIi ??? :?:
[To webmaster:] :!: :!: :!:
Be honest, I only interested in IIi related message. I am so confuse in reading thro' all other messages in 'Him' forum. Can you consider to open a IIi only forum for us ??? Million thanks.

Seconded....many times we've asked for this. Particularly when it comes to the Upgrading forum
I think we should also have a section designed for certain software apps, like Pocket Plus and PZP - as these would fall into (almost if not) all the phone sections.
Ant

Hey a seperate are for XDAIIi's is a great idea - how about a graphic to go along with it as well that can be used in our profile?

Yeah im all for a seperate IIi forum, its not that much hasslte to setup a new orum space.
Could a mod attach a poll and let the results of the poll decide ?

It'll be good chance to pour more effort into this great bit of hardware instead of linking it to it's older sibbling.

I don't think the XDAIIi will ever have enough SERIOUS users to warrant it's own forum. There are very few people who are well educated about POcket PCs that would buy an Alpine. It's too little, too late, with no WM2005 future and newer, better phones around the corner.

WM2003SE Upgrades - Is there Any Real News On this?

Is there any firm news on the likleyhood of a WM2003SE Upgrade for XDAII's (or any of the other versions of this hardware)? I have seen plenty of posts from people who seem to think it will come sometime but nothing official confirming this.
Given that HP have abandined any possibility of an upgrade for existing users I think it unlikley but I guess it only needs one ISP to offer the upgarde for Himalaya hardware and then we should be able to re-work it for the rest of us.
Yes, I'm looking for this too! I was hoping at least the new T-Mo USA iPaq phone edition would have SE! Is there a way to put that OS on my xdaII? -or is that a bad idea? -is it possible to get that ROM anywhere?

I just talked with the "live support" on this site. This is a copy of the session
Welcome Paul, please wait while we get you in contact with one of our club advisors...
You're now talking to Ali
Ali> Welcome to club i-mate support. My name is Ali, how can I help you today?
Ali> hi
Paul> hi, i wanted to ask about if/when the Windows Mobile 2003 SE update will be available for the imate PPC
Ali> Microsoft have just released Windows Mobile 2003 SE, however we need to add our elements to the operating system to make it into the complete device package.
Paul> is there any guess on time frame, it as been release by microsoft for a couple of months now.
Ali> there is no exact day for that
Ali> this usualy take 2 mounths
Paul> I have a number of friends who are considering purchasing the imate, but not sure if they should wait a bit longer if it wont be getting the landscape support found in SE. Can I at least tell them that it will be supplied sometime (this year)
Ali> yes sure , The Windows Mobile 2003 SE is totally different from the new upgrade currently available on our www.clubimate.com website that updates the current version of Windows Mobile 2003.
Ali> it will have the ability to view the pages in landscape
Paul> I understand that, just wanted to make sure it will be provided. I know a number of manufactureres have said they would not.
Paul> thank-you for your time
Ali> any more quieries ?
Paul> I have noticed that there is a number of questions about this topic on the support message boards on the club imate site. Is it ok if I post this conversation there to the public to answer the question and lay fears at ease?
Ali> ok thats will be fine , as i told you we need to add our elements to the operating system to make it into the complete device package.
Paul> ok, thank alot, you have been very helpful
Paul> bye
Ali> you are most welcome
Ali> bye
So it indeed seems that it is being worked on. And a big thanks to imate for providing that. All we neeed to do is be patient.

Upgrading to WM2003SE

Is it possible?
The new XDA IIs has WM2003SE in the ROM image, so would it be possible to steal it from there and add it to a home cooked XDA II rom?
Is there a ROM Kitchen available for the XDA II, or is it only available for the XDA I?
Thanks in advance for your help.
1. still Not Possible at the moment !

1. It will never be possible to steal the complete ROM, since the hardware is different and unlike PC-operating systems, PocketPC ROMS don't have drivers for multitude of hardware. Hardware independant pieces of software could be chipped out and ported to another, like SRS.
2.
I've used WM2003SE on my XDA2 & it works fine. In fact seemed to be rather more stable than the one it replaces.
It was a NFR version & I've since gone back to 1.72.181 'cos I want Blackberry
Then you must be one of the lucky few who got their hands on a XDAII WM2003SE Rom.
If NFR means NotForSale, that is why we never saw it.
But if you could share, plz
What I meant was that a WM2003 ROM of an XDAIIs can not be used on a XDAII.
I'm pretty sure I could make you a WM2003SE with blackberry support.

mr puff, maybe you could share the WM2003Se?
pfft zif he'll share
IF is exists WHY hasnt anyone uploaded a WM2003SE ROM for Himalaya???
This means we get (amongst others) Landscape, plus the Possibilities of using the new Intellidialer
I would very much like to try it!!!
Puff: PLZ upload the rom package. We wont tell anyone! And we wont resell it. promise!
i'm sure someone would volunteer to get the file and upload it somewhere...
Should be nice to trie ... MR Puff or other nice guy could share your rom ...

I think like edsub.
we will keep a secret and never talk to anyone about it.
People,
You are placing him in very akward position. He is probably under NDA of some kind. Those "releases" usualy very easy to track down to a particular person
Wait until some kind of "group" will release it.
Puff we are all waiting your cooperation
please if you still have the SE ROM.
Was better don't know that there is this kind of ROM ... now we know ...

Just a thought
Let's assume that this Himalaya SE ROM exists.
All major providers would easily have access to it.
The only reason for not releasing that, and ask people involved to sign NDAs, is to push sales of the newer hardware.
Which is an acceptable policy, from the viewpoint of a single company.
But when the good old competition works as it should, there is always one of the player breaking these situations.
If this does not happen, it is easy to guess that there is an agreement between the providers for not releasing the upgrade.
Now, that is against the law.
Just a thought, in case anyone involved in antitrust commissions would be reading this forum ...
FYI...

could you please upload your ext.ROM ?
I hope it doesn't include in your promise to microsoft.

u knwo wat i think of WM2005 ? C&CK @LL !! $UCK3D UP ROM EVER BY MICRO**** A$#Ho|3$ !! the reason why i say this is because....wen the xdaII is just lying off and i wanna make a call i hit green button to dial a number it shows me the last recd number always...where as wm2003se shows the last dialed number so if i wanna try a number again that i called last i have to dial it again if engage i have to manually dial the number again.....and again......and again......becaz if i hit green ans button twice ....on first it will open dial pad....on second it will start dialing the last recd number.....where as wm2003se dials the last dialed number.....and this **** wm2005 does not show me my sim contacts in PHOTO CONTACTS where wm2003se does....SIM TOOL kit does not allow me to edit old saved numbers theres no MSN MSNGR if u just restart the xdaII all last work that you have done will be lost E.G if youve created a gprs connection and u hit restart gprs connection wont be there wen u come back and many more......and many SUCKED UP errors like this...n yeah forgot......majorly.....the c0*k3d up A$#Ho|3 didnt let me connect to active sync for two days and when i just put the xdaII today for charging all of a sudden it got connected....and now again its not connecting says usb driver has mailfunctioned.......****TY ROM EVA IN THE HISTORY OF MICRO****

ZILLIONZ OF THANKS TO DCS FOR PROVIDING US WITH WM2003SE MYSTERYMAN ( THANKS TO MYSTERYMAN ONLY IF MYSTERYMAN IS NOT FROM MICROSOFT, WHICH I THINK IS NEGATIVE AND HE IS FROM MICROSOFT) ANYWAYS THANKS TO MAMAICH FOR PROVIDING SUCH A WONDERFUL RADIO ROM.....AND ALL THE OTHER GURUS WHO HAVE WORKED ON WM2003SE TO MAKE IT SUCH A WONDERFUL ROM FOR XDAII.....
Apart from the fact that I think you could express yourself in a more decent way, I would like to point you at the following:
WM2005 (just like WM2003SE for Himalaya) has not been released by Microsoft (yet). You might expect that it will be released for some devices, but I cannot imagine that it will going to be there for Himalaya: How much I dislike the idea, the Himalaya is an end-of-life product for most operators (I think Dopod and Krome are the only operators currently actively supporting the Himalaya).
In the mean time we will have to cope with best-effort results from ie. the XDA-developers community for new ROMs.
Personally I think this WM2005 ROM that has popped up is a Beta ROM for some other device, that has been been modified by someone (not being Microsoft). If you see it from that point WM2005 on Himalaya is quite a good job. But not really useable . . . .
You could alway vote with your money - and not buy another microsoft based product, if you feel that strongly about it :!:

Despite that you shouldn't feed trolls, I can't help myself.
The answer is obvious, zairy..
If you don't like MS Products (and you certainly don't pay for them, as you so proudly boast), don't complain about them. Because, if you don't like them, Don't use them.
All the problems you moan about are beta issues, appearing on a pre-beta version of magneto not meant for public use on a device that isn't specced for Windows mobile 2005 (Tiny Flash storage, for example).
It's very odd that you complain about how terrible any and all of the Microsoft operating systems are, yet you use Windows and Windows Mobile daily.
Then in the very next breath you praise others for their "WONDERFUL ROMS", when these very ROMs are essentially from Microsoft, with some drivers and a few bits and other bobs added on..
Do move on and get yourself a different phone.
In fact, get yourself a nice little phone with only basic features, as you may just hurt yourself while using anything more advanced. Use the money that you save on downgrading and get yourself a nice spelling tutor.
Once you've finished with it, use something called a dictionary and look up the words "Paradoxical" and "Attitude". Once you know what they mean, you should understand how the former applies to your childish rant, and that you should take the latter and get a new one.
does it look like that I care about what you said ??? :? :?:

WM2005 etc. Newbie Questions

Hi,
I'm the proud owner of a T-Mobile MDA II with vga camera. Half an hour ago I happend to find this interesting forum.
What is this Windows Mobile 2005? I've never heard of it. I searched the Microsoft website, but I didn't find anything.
I have no idea which OS is installed on my MDA... the ROM version is 1.72.01GER (in case that helps).
So... in case I want to upgrade my MDA.... what do I have to do, where do I get the files from etc. And, what is this upgrade all about? Is it a totally new OS, or what is it? I have no idea
Thanks for your help
Bye

Hi Bauer,
I too am a newbee. Just joined this forum about a month ago. If I may give you a clue ( though I'm not an expert in it), the Windows Mobile 2005 is supposed to be the next mobile phone OS from Microsoft. It is said to have many more user-friendly features than the one you are currently using. However it has not yet been officialy released in the market (I even doubt if its ready yet). But thanks to our great Buzz Lightyear (http://buzzdev.net) we are fortunate to get the taste of the new promised features. Buzz had managed to create his own version of the said OS and named it the Magneto. Why don't you try to drill further into other area of this forum or go to http://buzzdev.net. I'm sure you'll get the idea, and as it happened to me I'm sure you'll like it too. Good Luck.
Hi again Bauer,
Regarding the question as to where to get ROM upgrade, you can try this link http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=124&Itemid=32 to get the copy of the new ROM upgrade. However you are supposed to register yourself first to be able to access the link. There (and in this forum too) you will get a clear description & instruction for the ROM upgrade.
I would also like to get this opportunity to apologize to the forum (especially to Buzz and the development team) for not being polite enough to say 'thank you' for all the work you've done. I've had no significant problem with either the upgrading process or the tweaking around with both hardware and software (incl. 3rd parties). Everything works fine with my machine since day one I did the upgrade. I love the work. Thank you all, and have a nice day.
Hi Bauer,
Spend time reading the wiki site too which will provide you with a lot of background about your new toy and the sort of things you can tweak/ develop or pick up that others have done.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/
Also learn to use the search function of this website as you can find most of the answers for yourself without relying upon good folk to give the same advice to the next newbee in the queue asking the same questions ('nuff said, we've all been newbees at sometime).
Once you've read relevant parts of the wiki and are comfortable that you want to risk changing your ROM (there are numerous pitfalls you risk (e.g. warrantee invalidation) and ultimately totally killing your machine if you have two left feet/ power surge/ massive bad luck etc) search these forums will educate you to the experiences of others developing/ beta testing/ exploring. Buzz's versions of WM5 are narrated a:

Remember to pay due homage to all his hard work.
Beyond that enjoy.

ok, I feel like a total n00b again :-( lol (not that there's anything wrong with being a n00b, we all were once!) - but can't find this setting anywhere... been through all the options in settings :S - got my keyboard set to English (United Kingdom) - even changed to to United States and back to UK again & rebooted.. but still not love for me is this the place you're referring too???
Cheers for the assist, would love the keys back
try this i have the same problem and now it's ok
dude! what do you think "keyboard selector" in "Start - Utilities - Tweaks" is for?
Your Keyboard is most likely set to Fuze-Layout, it's way different from the original ToucPro Keyboard.
else your hardware-keyboard has to be differnt

Not sure if your message was for me or not - I'm not using the same ROM as the original poster.. I'm on Da_G's fine light ROM - nice and fast and plenty of room for customisation - actually just finished flashing to the new ROM specifically for the o2 serra and the keys are working ok - so gonna do some digging in the registry and see if I can spot the changes - might stay with this rom as it's light and fast too, but knowing what I'm like I'll be flashing it again within 24hrs
Thanks for the replies tho...

Hey dude, I see where you're coming from and not wanting to start an argument / get flamed / banned / eaten or most importantly upset anyone... but easy there tiger! Looking at the initial poster - diogoamato - he registered on May 08 and has made 4 posting since, so either he's done nothing really with his phone or has been doing what a large number of us do - sit and read the posts and learn stuff.
As for me, well I been a professional support guy for MS products since '96 and started using WM5 back on my Axim X51v when it came out, back then I registered on a few forums with XDA-dev being one of them, but then there was only really one place to be as an Ax. owner - aximsite - where I like to think I was contributing to the scene, however my xda-dev account went largely unused. It wasn't until last Nov / Dec I moved over to my Raph. and initially thought I knew a heck of a lot about WM and its workings, esp flashing, but soon realised I got a lot to learn and have spent my time reading & reading again and getting frustrated with the search.. but that's another topic! lol - now I've come a long way since Nov and am starting to try to help others where possible (work, time, etc.) - yea sometimes I think "man, use the search" or "why you flashing and messing with things you dont understand" but mainly I think why not try to help???
Personally I'm trying to get to grips with the kitchens and learn how to build my own custom roms and like all my skills I'm doing it my way; by reading and learning, & trial & error, only one or twice have I asked a querstion from a chef or reported a bug, but only after giving it some serious work myself... I cant remember how many times I've hard-reset my Raph. cos I stuffed it whilst trying to resolve a bug / issue...
I suppose I'm trying to say there are those of us here who use this massive knowledge base that makes this site number 1 and give back what we can. Yea I'd 100% agree if this original poster had a reg. date of Jun '09 : posts 1, but he (and lots of others) have been around for sometime, just we all cant' reply as much as we wished we could...
Well, that's my £0.02 worth...
Peace & love

Well,
Although I don't usually do so but I will answer you because I believe your comment is actually a comment instead of the usual asinine bunch of non argumentative attacks we see over here more often than desirable...
I will try to outline my ideas...
Then yo can comment it, if you like, in a PM. Let's not flood the thread with offtopic information.
01. We were all noobs once...
02. There are MANY forms of noobness...
03. I ALWAYS [without exception] try to help. This is a community, if I am not willing to contribute there is no point on being here. [as a mater of fact I contribute a lot more than I get... And that's the way it's supposed to be]
04. I can accept ignorance, lack of knowledge or even «mind simplicity»
05. I do not - and I repeat: do not - accept stupidity, laziness, indolence, lack of initiative, lack of commitment, etc... Especialy in a community. If everyone behaves like that we get simply nowhere.
06. If you don't search, you should learn to do it
07. If you believe the WIKI is actually hazardous to your health, it's a shame and you should get some counseling
08. If you don't even bother to read the thread you are posting on, that's just proposterous.
09. I usually answer questions that have already been answered 1.000.000.000 times when they have a reason to be posted.
10. I will not tolerate or have a good reaction towards asinine behaviours
11. Although I do see your point, if you spend some time around here you'll get the feel of the place... Then you will see [or maybe even feel] what I mean... Especially if you are a Chef Wannabe... You will ge to really understand the meaning of ingratitude and true offense. [The majority of members is NOT like that but some should just cease existing...]
12. Whenever one endeavours in or witnesses a non meritable coarse of action, one should allways fight it or withdraw.
P.S. I've been around, you know... After some time you just loose your patience... Users who are actually takers should't be allowed ti be here... That deeply compromises the integrity of the thin fabric of developers society... If you understand my predicament...

All those points are spot on - can't argue with any of those.
Several months back, there were a few posts regarding the influx of new members to XDA. Through these conversations, it was discovered that many Carriers are sending their customers here for solutions instead of adequately investing the required dollars into their internal support network.
As a result, newcomers often come here with what they perceive as a new issue and no idea on how to begin looking for a solution ... with the hope that finally, someone will help solve their problem.
XDA has changed; it continues to be about development but that has become an elite sub-culture. Very few will make it there, some will get close, most never will. And those that never will, are usually visiting XDA for information on solving an immediate problem, nothing more - this I feel is the new culture that is emerging on XDA.
I try my best to help those who want to try to get closer to what XDA is about. Like you, I do see posts that frustrate me and for the most part, I simply choose not to answer those.
So yes, we are all guilty of losing patience at one time or another ... I included.
I don't know if that guy got his hardware keyboard issue resolved or not. But, for what it's worth, I have a Fuze that I upgraded to the newest NRG rom. I found out that my function keys and shift/cap key would not function after installed an aftermarket keyboard. It was the keyboard ripped from the Touch Diamond 2.
The keyboard worked fine on a stock fuze so it was a surprise to me.
Just my experience to share..
heyho,
Key: HKLM\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\CurLang
Codes: English 1033
That took me...uhhm.. less than 1minute to search. wiki->raphael->keyboard layouts.

Don't forget the cwslayout! for touch pro (0) und At&T (1), as MadMic stated.
Softrest is mandatory.
I hope that helped...

P.S.look for UC and make a XML or CAB to do this for you after every flash)
Thanks dude, I'd flashed the Serra ROM (OK o2 brand name for Raph.) and it sorted the fn key issue out, so a little digging in the registry to compare between the two and I'd figured the curlang out, came back to drop a posting about it and you'd beaten me to it - time to spend some more time in the wiki - lol
Was thinkging about using the UC so I dont have to do this again when I flash to another ROM (wont be long as learning the kitchen stuff now... howe long before I got a brick?? lol lol)...
Peace & Love
