i remember reading somewhere i can delete the cab files that activesync sends through when it installs software
where is that folder located? i cant seem to find the post anymore and i cant find the files on my ppc =(
thank you

mmm i also wanna now this i'm always running out of memory

ahh i found it i think...after i went back to 1.50i =p
its application data/volatile

there's only some empty folders there, or are the files hidden ?

to be honest...i have no idea =)
but i was using tweak.net 3.9.1 and found the temp dir to be there

in "appmgr" file... when you load any file uninstall file's is locating there...

Extracting cabfiles from software I have??

I have been reading lots of posts on the forum and got so far but now I'm stuck.
I have an XDAII and have managed to unlock and unhide the extended rom. now I can access the extended rom while XDAII is in the cradle.
I understand how I can add cab files to it and will be using the configcreator tool to edit the config.txt file.
The problem I have is; all the pockekpc software I have, is on my computer and I have only ever installed it through activesync the normal or official way. When ever I have tried to put the files directly on my phone and click on them I always get the messeage this is not a valid pocket pc application..... or something like that.
So how do I convert the software files I have on my computer to cab files so I can include them in the extended rom? ? :?:
To most of you guys this must seem like a nuby question sorry  , but I can't seem to find the answer on the forum.....
Is there a tool I can use or a program that I can use to make useable cab files?
Also just a though when I install programs via activesync does my computer convert the files to cabfiles and then automatically transfer them to my device? if so can I somehow copy the cabfiles from the temporary location on my computer :?:
A step by step guide would be helpfull but any help would be appreciated :?
Thanks in advance
Daz
Some 'high-end' software will leave a copy of their cab files on a specific directory (i.e. you have a choice of choosing). Those you can just go to the directory and copy it. If you do not know what I'm talking here, nevermind
Anyway, for normal simple software, they will most probably extract themselves to temporary directory. Example
C:\Documents and Settings\'yourWindowsUserName'\Local Settings\Temp\
where 'yourWindowsUserName' is your username for the PC. My guess would be, try to search for *.cab files in your temp directory (i.e. as the above dir) before you install your software. THEN, start your software installation, and do a search again on the 1st setup screen, see if you are lucky And try to do another search after you're done with the setup.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for that I'll have a go.

I managed to edit my extended rom! 8)
I was able to add the cab files from tom tom navigator 3 and it installs them perfectly after a hard reset!
The only issue I have, when I run Tom tom for the first time after a hard reset I have to keep entering the activation code. Not really a major issue more of a pain.
Wonder if anyone knows how to get it to enter the activation code automatically :?: Bat file or something :?:
This sites really helped me with my tinkering I think its about time to donate
Thanks for all the help guys

Hi :
Here after what I do with succes :
When installing the application from ActSync, you must select "Storage Card" instead deffault location to install.
Then, you have to cancel the installation process before the progress bar on your PPC's screen ends.
A dialog box will ask if you're sure to abort the process.
At this stage, you go to storage card throught your PC Explorer, and you'll find the cab file there.
You save it away.
This cab file on the storaqe card will be automatically removed when you confirm that you really want cancel the installation process on the PPC's screen.
Or...
Go to c:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync folder in your desktop and you can find there more cabs. Or simply find all the *.cab files on your HDD and you'll be surprised.
Thanks for this I will check out both methods
Does anyone know what the best freeware tool for modifying the cabfile is? and where I can download it :?:
Thanks for the help

I think, that everyone here knows only WinCE Cab Manager from OCP Software. But this is commercial,but...on internet is everything...

Help me please! I messed up !!

I feel like a total IDIOT !!!
I was messing around with my TyTn trying to unlock the ext rom.....
I installed fit4cat 1.0 checked it out...didn't do anything with it.
My TyTn started acting a little strange..so I did a hard reset.
When it reboot during the customization process it tells me:
\Extended_ROM\MT_ShortcutMMS-Hermes.CAB does not exist.....
then it freezes!!!!!
What did I do !!! I'm a fool!
Can someone help me out?
I just want to reset it and get the ext rom installed..
btw..i have bootloader 1.14
ok...i kind of got things going again.....!
I still get the message about the missing .cab file!!
I can now access the ext rom folder.....now the question is how do I instal .cab files for the ext rom?
I downloaded the appropriate ext rom version for my device and it contains a bunch of .cab files, one of them being the missing file
How do I get it in there...do I simply instal it like a standrd .cab file?
Does it need to be installed in the ext rom ?
hahaha your not the only one... what you need to do is visit the wiki here and download the appropriate ExtROM for your device and... use fid4cat to unhide and unlock the EtxROM and simpy copy the missing file back there... re lock the ROM using fid4cat and hard reset it....

ok.....where do you copy the missing files? at the root level of the ExtRom folder?
There's other folders in there:
Program Files
WMDRM
I don't see any other .cab files in the ExtRom folder of my device...is that normal? Should I copy all the ExtRom file I downloaded since I have none in the device ExtRom folder?
if you can see the extrom and there are no cab files inside it then you have somehow formatted your EtxROM, you need to copy all files from the relevant downloaded ExtROM onto your PDA in the ExtROM folder and relock the etxROM

Files from ROM

I guys. I kinda need some help. I flashed Transformer 1.0 and some files are missing.
I reaaaaaally don't wanna flash it again so can you please post those files for me? or just teach me a way to retrieve them from the rom? (loved to do that)
I used the exes from the kitchen rom soft from the forum and got access to the os.nb files but still the files I need aren't there.
I guess maybe they're on the nbf file from pdaviet's temp rom but couldn't access the files inside it.
The files are the exes for:
\windows\timewizard.exe
msn live(pmsnlive something .exe)
the terminal exe
zip
Could you mail them or post them on rapidshare? I can put a full path and name here from the files here...
Thanks in advance
got the timewizard.exe around the forum
but still some files missing
did you a hard reset?
Yes I did. when it prompted me for the calibration.
I did it again and everything's fine now!
Thanks

Does anyone remember this?????

I am looking for the file explorer.exe that allows you to delete files from the rom. It was posted awhile back and I just recently lost due to a HDD crash. I believe is was included in one of the old WM5 roms but was also posted as a download also. I used to drag it to the Windows Directory and actually overwrite the built in explorer. I have searched and searched and cannot find it. Can someone please help....
Thanks
try resco explorer, it lets you overwrite the rom BUT it is a commercial program and requires registration. I believe a trial version is available.
Thanks I own that also. But the one I was referring to was created by someone on here. I thought it was Dr. Putt but I could be wrong. I just dragged the file over to the windows directory and it overwrote the windows file explorer. I have to keep looking. But that you for the response.....
Rob
I also only use Resco, but I recall hearing that TotalCommander could do what you're looking for. Not sure if TC is free or commercial, just chiming in...
if you dont want the original file explorer, why dont you just delete the .ink file out of startmenu? this will remove the old explorer icon from programs menu.
It's not that I don't like it there. The version I am refering to actually let you delete things stored in the rom. With resco thanks for all your suggestions though!
If you do run across it drop me a line....
Thanks

Corrupt files

Hi,
I searched through everywhere but did not find a real good answer.
On my HD2 Phone Memory I have a few files that have strange filenames with strange characters. I want to remove them but then it says it can't cause the file is corrupt. (Don't think they are corrupt, just problems with the filenames) I also tried to remove the whole directory but then it removes all files in the directory but not those strange ones and then it can't remove the directory cause it is not empty. Also tried to rename them, but it also is telling me the files are corrupt.
The only option I found that probebly will work is the Hard Reset, but I don't want to do that since I want to remove them for my backup program wich also can't handle these files.
Now, I tried the original explorer, the Resco explorer and Total commander.
Does anyone has an idee how to remove them?
thanks
Rom: Artemis 18 NLD
Radio: 2.10.50.08_2
Is there nobody with an idea?
are these in your device memory or on the sdcard ....
if they are in Device memory I would say a Hard Reset is your only option to fix it, but if you have corrupt files in device memory , you may have a hardware issue ...
If you have corrupt files on your SD card, copy everything you can to your pc and then format the card ... and then put your stuff back ...
If it does it again, in either place, you may have some hardware problems ...
OR, this could be too, had it on a guys phone the other day, PC infected with a virus that keeps trying to spread to the phone every time it is plugged into the PC ...
watcher64,
Thanks for the answer,
It is in device memory and it is not a hardware issue since it is only from one app. YouTube. Obviosly it is the caching (windows/YouTube)
I use an other YouTube Application now. But the other files I can't remove. I did not want to hard reset since I don't want to reinstall all the stuff. Eventualy I will reinstall with a newer ROM. But I was planing to see how stable this rom is and just try using it for at least 3 months. I can backup everything with excluding that specific directory. But I just will keep trying to remove those files.
So if there is anyone out there that knows how to remove those files.....
Are there tools for this filesystem, (wich filesystem is it?)
