Question on StarTrek - HTC Startrek

Hi ... I have a Wizard right now and I am thinking of geting a startrek.
Since there are not many review of it so far to those that do have it any major complaints so far ? and where is the cheapest place to buy it from ? what did yall pay ?
Also can some one do me a favor and go in the the settings of the phone and look @ the caller ID options ...does it have send only to contact option?
Thx

does it have send only to contact option?

yes it does.
i don't think i can help with where to get it. but i can tell you that i replaced my wizard with it because it's so much easier to deal with as a phone.

Played with it this weekend. If you're happy with a smartphone, not a touchscreen, it's very very nice, elegant, thin, and useful.

great ...now all I got to do is sell my faraday and wizard

How can you be so sure that you are happy with a smartphone as to a PDA phone? I haven't tried a smartphone before, but due to the comments and votes on

I have both... a Universal and a StrTrk...
Well, it's a personal decision. It depends on what you need those devices for...
I've had a K-Jam as a primary phone, but then decided to switch back to a Motorola Mpx220 instead...
I'm actually using the Universal as a secondary phone and the StrTrk which substituted the Mpx220...
I know I need them both, but this is strictly personal.
There is now DEFINITIVE answer, otherwise there will only be ONE device... ;-)
Ciao

I have just upgraded my Wizard and c500 to a TyTn and Strtrk. Both are great phones, but have different uses like Mix said. You can't beat the form factor of the Strtrk, or the functionality of the Tytn. Unfortunately no one device has both...... yet.

Well since a few of u got a TyTN and a str trk was wondering if you could check the caller ID setting on the TYTN ...wanted to know does it have the send only to contats option ?

Does the BlueAngel use the same screen as the Himalaya?

Does the BlueAngel use the same screen as the Himalaya? I need to know cos I've checked ebay and the only screens available are for the xda II which is the Himalaya... I have been to ppctechs.com but because I am based in the UK I don't want to risk sending my unit all the way to the US + it's a stupid price to fix the phone.
Well, either that or I'm getting a new phone...

No. At least not the same as a complete "product", because the cable is different.

This page claims that there are 2 LCDs used in Blueangel
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueangelLCD
You should check your board ID first

Glad I stumbled across this then....
Just to throw in another extra; how's about the Alpine (XDA 2i?). That seems to be from the outside anyways a himalaya with WiFi and a faster CPU + bigger camera... can I transfer a himalaya screen to an Alpine?
I know that all screens past the wallaby have the same res and number of colours (I must confess, I thought they would be all interchangeable! ) Screens are appearing from foreign lands on Ebay for about £80 I think there was one for the 2s - just to help OP!
So in round-up. Can I use a himalaya screen in an alpine, as I now know I can't put one in a BA? Or can I use a BA in an alpine? so in even shorter roundup =- are ANY of these screens swappable?!

There is no hardware information on Alpine available No motherboard pictures, nothing.
Probably some information can be gathered from the haret.exe program

OH Dear HTC SHIFT ...CAN.. make phone calls

I thought about getting the upcoming HTC SHIFT
but as it was not phone call capable I decided not to.
now it appears YOU CAN make phone calls as well
via a bluetooth headset like I do with my ameo.
with a 800x600 screen. vista support and hsdpa
I think I may have to Crack and get one.
im a data freak and rarely make calls so I think I will find it hard to resist if it does make calls.
It's a dual device... it's basically a combination of a PDA and a PC.
the PDA part runs Windows Mobile and obviously has a phone interface which is essentially a reproduction of the new PDAs HTC have released like the Kaiser.
There's also a PC part which runs Vista... although HTC won't be releasing rom updates for this part since quite obviously... it'd take ****ing ages to download and probably butcher HTC's bandwidth.
currently, the only reason the device isn't out already is because HTC's marketing department haven't got round to pulling their fingers out yet.

Where did you get this info from?
I've been following discussions on the Shift very closely, and so far no one has been able to confirm that it can make voice calls.
Also, it does not run Windows Mobile as we know it, it runs 'Snapvue', which is a very cut down version of Windows Mobile, which has no phone interface - it just deals with email, SMS, calendar and contacts, without having to boot into Vista. It also (apparently) cannot use Bluetooth or Wifi from the Snapvue interface, only 3g. BT and Wifi are only available in Vista.
It looks like this device will not be living up to the hype it has generated.... without the voice calls, and with seemingly very poor battery life when using vista, I may be cancelling my pre-order.
its due out on Nov 19th UK approx 800 squids
the early reviews said that it was not voice capable
see the gottabemobile video review.
but now it apears they have done the smart thing and activated it.
as a much more internet/pc orientated chap rather than talk on a mobile . I am very very tempted by this.
how much would I get for a tmobile ameo on pk3
rom v good condition

Link? I'd like to see some proof of this.
And get rid of the Ameo? Nah... No way I can justify having all these expensive toys, but I couldn't get rid of the Ameo!
Incidentally, Orange will be offering the Shift on a data contract in the UK from early December.

I really hope he's not wrong, as it would make the device much more usable.
However, when a random stranger on an online forum, even if it is Olipro, tells me something but can't or won't back up their statement with some evidence, and every other source of information tells me that he is wrong, then I have to assume that he is, indeed, wrong.
WELL the sad news is that the SUPPORT people at HTC told me it is NOT voice capable so i guess thats pretty much from the Horses mouth
MMM getting ready for new device??!!??
im sure it will be hacked if not possible from the outset and some companies are offering them at discount rates with a mobile contract (non official) so my 3rd contract is up for renewal so may have 2 get one, with or with out voice support.... but with will mean a nice tmobile ameo going up for sale on ebay or here totally unlocked with pk 3.0 there will no doubt be a glut of these on the market and value will plummet..........
Knowing HTC, the Shift probably is BT voice call capable hardware wise, but is disabled via software from making calls!
feast your eyes on that you whiney *****.
or perhaps you'd like to accuse me of forging it?
okay this document also states intgernal gps? is this true as well?? hopefully that would be sweeterthan what has being announced maybe they included t but no support like on past phones hiding gps and fm radio....
it wasnt my intention to start a war here chaps , BUT the tech support at HTC told me voice calls are NOT available
only via skype. Personally that seems like a ludicrous decision as you still need 2 devices and the SHIFT will be just like other HSDPA capable laptops that are readily available.
To be honestI am considering geting a nice laptop and maybe getting a smaller HSDPA phone to use as a phone and a modem.
I hooked up my Ameo to our work laptop yesterday to try out the modem capabilities and i must say i was hugely impressed with how fast it was.
I would really like to have the full pc online experience and phone ability in one package but looks like this isnt the case

Don't worry, most of us here already realise that Olipro is to immature and arrogant to hold a sensible conversation on any subject.

Quite right, I'm a nasty **** who hates everybody.
now... how does that PDF grab you?
So it mentions that i supports bluetooth headset (or it is an "option"), and that's nice. Will make it easier to use with Live Messenger or Skype.
But where does it say that the Shift can make phone calls?
I'm not trying to pick a fight, just trying to figure this out.

Original HTC Case

Hallo,
I lost my case that was originally shipped with my Polaris. I loved that case. Does anyone know where I can buy this?
Thanks
Any ideas? I see more than 300 clicks.....
Try HTC online shop.
Their online shop has all the original accessories that you might want. only buy original.
I already tried that, nope no original case for the TC

My O2 orbit2 did not come with a case of any sort. But Ibought a pouch case from HTC for Htc Touch Cruise and I am pretty happy with it at £10.00 ;-)
Maybe you can relace it with something like this:

It's very similar to the original and has excellent quality.

I completely agree. If I was going to replace my Touch Cruise case, that would be the ONLY way to go.
Many on this board (not this thread) seem to have the wrong idea, and are going for either cases that are way too thick/bulky, ugly, or cheap looking.
@Sonus,
when you replace your original case, will you sell it ;-)
But I had also a look to the site and they look great.
I have one of the Beyza cases - the black croc skin-style one.
Here's a 20% discount code: CAD9WINDOWSMOBILE247
Thanks for the discount code, but unfortunalty I already ordered one without that code

Could you give me a user opinion on the Orbit 2, I've had a Mini-S and currently using the 02 Xda Orbit, with 4.01 ROM, but I'm due my U-Grade soon and want a current user opinion who has had the same phone I have.
Your opinion will be much help, as I'm also thinking of leaving 02 and getting the Touch Dual from T-Mobile.

Display - Spares for Cruise 09

Hi guys,
By mistake, I broke the screen glass of my HTC Touch Cruise 09 . It looks awful, even though the touch mechanism was not affected. Do you know where I can find a spare somewhere in Europe with shipping to Romania?
Any suggestion will be highly appreciated!
10x
Have you contacted service of HTC already? Or otherwise look here.....http://mobile.brando.com/htc-touch-cruise-2009-replacement-touch-screen_p04397c0695d088.html
Success!!
Hi Frank,
Thanks for the hint. I found this site (hopefully it's reliable ), as well, and ordered it already. Now, I'm looking forward to have my mobile up and running again.
Only the best!

Finally, the parcel came. It is more than a month since I was waiting for it. So, guys, if you want to order something using http://mobile.brando.com/ expect yourself to wait more than a month. Next step is to find somebody with proper tools to replace it, since the touch didn't come along with these. This is another adventure, due to the fact that nobody wants to dare to disassemble/repair it (at least, here in Bucharest).
Btw, if you find kind of repairing/dismantling manual for Iolite, just let me know! I'll appreciate a lot!
Finally, I have my Cruise 09 working back again. I borrowed a set of screwdrivers from one of my colleagues and I did replace by my own the touch screen. I tasted, this way, a high level of adrenaline, but in the final my work was multiple times payed!
Now, I'm happy again!
o2 'guide' - equivalent HTC screen replacement
Hi all,
I have an o2 'guide' xda that was dropped and now has a broken screen......actually thats my first question.....
1. I understand that there are two 'screens' (touch and lcd???) so how do i determine exactly which one i've broken? On boot-up i get no more than a black screen with a narrow vertical white/rainbow band......any thoughts?
2. Is it true that both the HTC touch cruise 2 and cruise 2009 are the same screens as per the o2 guide.....can anyone confirm this please?
3. Can anyone provide a source for a replacement screen as opposed to going back to o2 themsleves....i'm lost!!!???
Thanks for any help!,

As far as I know, they're long since out of production - Orange sold off their stock back in January !
Any reason you want the TG01 in particular?
I would go with something like the HD2 (then android it), or the HTC desire if I could have afforded it at the time.
TG01 is powerful, but the perhaps not a smart choice anymore (unless you can pick one up cheap, which is the beauty of them lol).

I have got one TG01 already and quite satisfy with it, just wanna buy it for a friend.
I think in terms of cost-application, that phone is the best ^^
Yup, in terms of value for money they are ace
So there is no TG01 available in the UK except for Ebay, isn't there?
